5121  Other / Meta / Re: I was banned for a week. Back with my 2 cents on: May 10, 2014, 04:40:40 PM
<...>
Engouraging changes in the OP:Something similar as what was done in the yellowcoin post. A warning was posted as a reply from a mod and it was quoted in the Original Post to prevent further spam through replies.
<...>
You are the second person to have noticed my post. Just in a good way. Back on topic, I'm not really sure if that helped. Even after the warning I had to hand out over a couple of dozens of bans to those posting the exact same response I've warned about.
5122  Other / Meta / Re: Banned account on: May 10, 2014, 10:50:58 AM
Contact BadBear. He issued the ban, he should know why, for how long and any other info.
5123  Other / Meta / Re: Could Someone compile a list of hard rules to prevent getting banned? on: May 08, 2014, 05:20:40 PM
Use a little common sense when posting and you'll be fine!
And a temporary ban will show if you are doing something wrong.
5124  Other / Meta / Re: I think i was banned for nothing! on: May 08, 2014, 05:18:50 PM
You were temporarily banned for low quality posts added in with the fact you have a paid sig. I didn't issue the ban, that's where you have to contact BadBear. I suggest decreasing the amount of posts and trying to increase the quality of them.
5125  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a loan of 0.2384983 BTC on: May 08, 2014, 11:35:44 AM
Collateral means you have to send something to the one loaning you worth as much or more than he's loaning you.

This might answer why should you do that:

A common question is why don't I just sell my collateral? Well the reasoning behind collateral is that you think it's going to appreciate in price or do not want to sell it, encouraging you to pay back the loan to have your collateral returned.
5126  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hey all on: May 07, 2014, 04:45:11 PM
Hello hello! Glad to see everyone is so friendly here!
I think I gonna ask a lot! Thanks people who made this forum to discuss crypto currency

I dont think this forum is favoring any altcoins, I see posts getting deleted when someone talks about another coin.  is talking about other coins restricted in any case?
Altcoin discussions are to be kept in the Alternate cryptocurrencies subforums. Most alt discussion related deleted messages were just spam.
5127  Other / Meta / Re: The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again la on: May 07, 2014, 01:18:00 PM
Try leaving the website (logged in of course) open and return later and try to post then. Else, logout and delete the browser's cookies. Log in again and try posting then.
5128  Economy / Auctions / Signature space - Sr. member - 4000+ posts - around 200 posts per month on: May 03, 2014, 05:48:07 PM
So I've decided to auction off my signature. I make on average around 200 posts per month, sometimes more, sometimes less. The rules for this auction are:

  • No NSFW content
  • No scams or shady businesses
  • Gambling sites are fine as long as it's a reputable one (Has substantial Trust feedback, feedback on announcement thread, etc. , PM me to verify the service you want to advertise fits)
  • The link must go to a Bitcointalk thread (such as the announcement of your site)
  • You will get the first line and can use any size of text you want, however, I have to be able to put a second line (with the default text size)
  • No coloured backgrounds
  • Your advertisement will have a notice, as in: "Advertisement: <your advertisement here>"
  • I have the right to reject bids or advertisements. You can offer a different one of course.
  • If the service turns out to be a scam, I'll remove the ad and your money will not be refunded.

25% of the profit will go to Sean's Outpost (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=295211.0). The minimum bid is 0.35 BTC and the minimum bid increment is 0.01 BTC. The auction will end on June 1st if there is at least 1 valid bid. If there isn't one, it'll end 1 week after the first valid bid.

I recommend using this format when bidding:

<amount of BTC you are bidding/are willing to pay per month> BTC for <amount of months>

For example:

Code:
0.35 BTC for 2 months
That means you'll have to pay 0.7 BTC if you win.

Code:
0.36 BTC for 1 month
That means you'll have to pay 0.36 BTC if you win.

Let the bidding begin.
5129  Other / Meta / Re: raising awareness about some madness here on: May 03, 2014, 01:15:24 PM
I placed the warning since that specific thread was gaining over 5 pages per day of absolute spam/clutter and the alt section has been troublesome for a long time. Most of these spamming were newbies with one or two posts (usually zero or low quality as well) and I only banned newbies since I only have jurisdiction over that member group. The warning was even put at the top of the thread. That means:

1. They haven't even read the first page of the thread, not talking about the whole thread.
2. They don't contribute to the discussion.
3. They cause serious clutter and bump down any worthwhile thread.

That's the classification of a spammer. Also, could you link exact profiles of the banned members you are talking about?

EDIT: Regarding the paid signature, every moderator is human being just like everyone else. I can have my own opinion and I can choose whom to endorse or advertise. We're not mindless drones.

And the post count? I've been here for over 2 years and have been fully active (as seen by my activity) for 420 days. That would mean that I posted during the active period around 10 posts per day - a normal amount for an active forum participant. I've actively spent (as it can be seen here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=51173;sa=statPanel) around 26 days and 9 hours in front of the forum. That is 37980 minutes spent here. So I've posted a post around every 10 minutes of my time spent here - much less than these active participants you are talking about, which I didn't ban.
5130  Other / Meta / Re: Bad Reports on: May 03, 2014, 10:40:17 AM
The thing is mprep, you won't be able to do this for every single person. What if more people want to know? I believe that leting us know which of our reports were bad will increase the report quality in general.
Well, I'm not the dev here, nor the admin. If you want such feature (being able to see which of your reports were handled and how), make a thread in the "New forum software" (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=167.0) and if it gets enough attention, it might get included.
5131  Other / Meta / Re: Can a locked topic be unlocked? on: May 03, 2014, 10:27:41 AM
In most sections you can. Just look at the bottom left of the thread and you should see "Unlock topic".
5132  Other / Meta / Re: Bad Reports on: May 03, 2014, 10:24:03 AM
Can we get the option of seeing our reports that get marked as bad? I got a bad report yesterday for the first time in a while and I have no idea what it was for. I understand they're kept on the system for two weeks so I think it'd be beneficial if we could see the ones that have been rejected. This way at least people can learn from their mistakes and get a general idea of what should and shouldn't be reported.
I handled a lot of your reports recently. Guess I'm on a similar time line .I marked one as bad since you reported a thread in a Beginners section that actually fit there. That's it, I think.

Hmm, you sure it was bad? It was just the one bad report as far as I'm aware so that must've been it. I only actually started reporting the pointless newb welcome threads because you seem to always move them to the trashcan  Grin.
You reported some thread regarding a trade or something which actually fit the section. And yeah, I know it was only one Cheesy. Don't worry too much, some mods have accuracies as low as 60% I think and it's still considered a good rating.

Regarding useless welcome threads, keep reporting them. However some introductions actually have important question or are overall substantial. Try to report those who have none of what was mentioned and contain only one or two sentences.

A trade? I'm not sure what that could be? Could you check if it's not too much trouble? I'd like to know what it was for future reference. And yeah, I don't suppose the overall score matters too much but I like to keep it up haha. And yeah, I know not to report any newb threads that actually have valid questions or content in, just the welcome / hi I'm new here etc ones which is what I thought I did, unless I only glanced over it.

And how do mods get marked on accuracy? Do they go to an admin for verification or something?
I looked through the reports but I seem to notice multiple bad reports so I'm not sure which one was handled by me. And regarding accuracy, we also use the "Report to moderator" button - we're not all global moderators, you know.

Multiple ones? How many? I thought there was just the one judging by my score. Could you tell me or PM what those were if it's not much of a hassle?

Oh, so can you guys only handle the stuff in your own respective sub forums, and for everything else you have to report as well?

Also, is there a list anywhere of what posts should and shouldn't be reported?
I noticed 5, I think. Most of them, even though handled already, were changed/moderated/deleted so it's not worth posting them. It really depends on the moderator which handles them.

Yeah, we have to report some stuff as well. Regarding a list, we usually follow various tips both from theymos and older/higher rank mods. A few of these threads are:

They might be the Reddit copy paste spam bots that I've seen someone complain about in another Meta thread. Just copy and search the post and you'll see if it's that case.

5136  Other / Meta / Re: Why Was I Banned? Unexpected! on: May 03, 2014, 09:18:45 AM
You were temp banned (not by me BTW) for a huge amount of low quality posts, contributing little to nothing to the discussion, over a short period of time. Adding the fact you have a paid signature and here you have it.

My suggestion would be to decrease the amount of posts per day, write longer posts and only post if you have something substantial to add.

Posted in another thread. This goes for you as well.

Waiting Watch Dogs Release in next spring.
action game based in hacking theme, that will be cool if game devs talk about BTC there Grin
Gameplay demo : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z3iG2QlJXk

+1 preordered this game Smiley
Waiting for it as well. Haven't preordered since preorders are generally a bad idea. It's better to buy once it has been reviewed and released.
5140  Other / Meta / Re: [Split] Re: [EDU] Banned? Read this before posting about it on: April 29, 2014, 12:35:07 PM
So it's best to ban spammers but not scammers?
The forum policy is not to moderate scams and let the community police itself. That's what the Trust system was meant for. Spam is obvious, scams are subjective and moderating supposed "scams" can lead to serious censorship by mods/staff. That's what we need to avoid.
I mean spams are just annoying but scams look more serious to me to say the least. It's up to the staff/mods to pick their poison but I would spend more time policing scams than spams to create a safe and better environment. Now we're talking about more than 300k members and the numbers will increase to a couple of millions soon so good resource management should come into play to make the forum the best one, not one of the best!

Look at this guy spamming on my thread and the mods did nothing;) Plus I do not care! He even made threats to get my account banned else he continues to spam it until I give up, just a kid.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=524457.msg6365547#msg6365547

Just to give an example!

That isn't spam. I guess some other mods agree. What you have there is criticism. Bit borderline annoying, but still pretty constructive.

Back on topic, moderation of scams can lead to some serious abuse from the moderators side: it can cause him silencing those he doesn't want to tell, claiming he's running a scam. Thus members themselves have to asses the situation and decide whether it's a scam or not.
