521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: September 04, 2017, 01:02:38 PM
Hi guys,

I have a small "mining room" in my basement.  I have 2 racks worth of equipment integrated in a wall between a basement hallway, and a hexagon shaped room in the rear corner.  Here's a view from the hallway side.  As you can see, there is also quite a bit of A/V and Network gear in the rack currently.

I'm mining Burst with just under 0.3 PB, and that Rosewill case has 6 x 1080Ti cards in it.

I started out using an 8" 750 CFM exhaust fan as seen below:

But after a couple of weeks, I started to notice that the rest of the house was getting hot (outdoor temps were in the 90's at the time).  I didn't make the connection that the exhaust fan in the basement was the culprit, so I had the HVAC guy come out.  After checking that all was well with my A/C Unit, I showed him the exhaust fan and he immediately knew what the issue was.  I had basically created negative pressure throughout the entire house, so hot and humid air was being pulled in through all cracks in doors, windows and walls.

So I ended up ordering a 2 ton high efficiency mini split and now my "mining room" is a chilly 62 degrees all the time and no more issues in the rest of the house.

So please be careful about adding an exhaust fan in your mining room.

I ran a dedicated 100A subpanel to my mining room and am feeding all servers 240V:

Phil, I too have solar.  20kw system at the moment, but I plan to add additional ground mount arrays @ 6.24 Kw (24 260W panels at a time).

My current system:

54 panels on the shop roof and one ground mount array for now.  I got plenty of space to add more arrays on the ground with a clear southern exposure.

I have 400A service at the house with a 400A safety disconnect and a 400A automatic transfer switch with a diesel generator for backup.

So I'm ready to start adding more mining rigs now.  Who knows, once I fill up that small hexagon shaped room in the basement, maybe it is time to load up a couple of shop bays with mining equipment as well.   Grin

I'm running MSI Z270A-A PRO boards with Celeron G3950 CPUs and V.007 risers and EVGA 1080Ti cards.  Been rock solid for me.  I like being on the latest Intel chipset / technology on my hardware for best resale value, should such a day ever come.   Grin

a raid array failed. Is back up now and a ticket logged with provider. Hoping not to have more downtime but something may need to be replaced.

Is the new server running RAID 0 or something? If so, that's a no-no for redundancy. If they were running RAID 1, and a disk failed, it will still keep on running.

Or RAID 5 or RAID 6, or a number of other configurations, a single disk failure (or dual disk failure in the case of RAID 6) would not have taken down the server.

Who is the provider?

Yeah, not really a fair comparison.  You should at least have used the local NiceHash wallet so that there would be daily payouts.

My Burst miner has an E5-2683 V3 (14 core) CPU.  It does about $1.10 on NiceHash doing CryptoNight.
526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: August 24, 2017, 09:25:06 AM
What is your GTX1080Ti power consumption and core voltage at that core clock (1999 Mhz) ?
+250 to core clock for GTX1080Ti it really great - more than 15% to base clock increase
I haven't had a chance to hook up a current probe to this rig (because it isn't really a mining rig, but my work / gaming rig).  Running CryptoNight as well on the 6700k CPU, which adds another $0.50 / day to whatever the GPU is mining.

It did fall over finally last night when it switched to mining Skunk using ccminer_tpruot.  So I dropped core down to +200 for the time being until I get a chance to play it is some more.  It's doing 55 MH/s on Skunk though, but temps went up a little to 40C.

The Articstorm comes with a build in water cooler from the factory, so yes, water all the way.

The card is so long I had to unplug one of the fans.

you have an zotac and zotac take more power from the wall so at 70% you probably have 250w (like founders edition which have 250w at 100% tdp) from the wall or something close, if you let card at 100% tdp probably you will have close to 300w from the wall so check your power consumption, personally i have an gtx1070 amp extreme! and at 100% tdp it has 220w from the wall, with 80% tdp i have something between 170-180w, 1070 is rating 160W normally (founders edition and specs), on 80% power i get 2100-2113 rock stable at gpu speed on mining, gaming etc, at 100+ tdp i don't get any more speed, this is frequency limit, but under 80% tdp i got lower frequency.
I was wondering about that.  With power set to 70%, I noticed that Afterburner is reporting 75% - 80% depending on what I mine, unlike my EVGA based rig where the Power Limit setting matches what I'm actually seeing.

MSI Z270A-Pro
G3950 CPU
2x4GB RAM
6xEVGA 1080Ti OC Edition
1xEVGA SuperNova 1200 P2
6x V.007 Risers

Cards synced in Afterburner and set to 65% power, + 150 Core, +600 Memory

Win 10, latest BIOS from MSI, latest driver from nVidia, NiceHash Legacy 1.8.1.1

Been running rock solid since turning it up a couple of weeks ago.  Pulls right around 1,100W at the wall @ 247V.

my ftw3 can only boost +130 stable

Don't worry, it's a silicone lottery for everyone. We have 1080 Ti GPUS that will do +225 and others that can only manage +125
The silicone lottery for me isn't my EVGA's doing +150 Core at 65% power, but my Zotac Articstorm doing +250 @ 70% power.  It averages about 780 Sol/s.   Grin   Grin

I think it would probably do over 800 Sol's if I give it more power.

There is very impressive!
What coin do you mine? Which miner? What hashrate?
How much do you get on solo ETH?
Well, at the moment I'm still just running NiceHash trying to get my bearings on what I really should be doing.  Haven't had to time to go setup all these individual wallets for the various altcoins to mine and hold, which is what I want to get into.

Those 6 1080Ti's at 65% power do about 660 - 670 Sol/s.

Where can I get that case ? Smiley

It's the Rosewill 4500:

And then I'm using the GPU drop-in bracket from Spotswood, a member here on the forum.  He also got a website:

Where did you get the cables from? I did have a quick look but couldn't find anything

https://cablemod.com/

Use their configurator and enter your PSU make/model, etc.

How are you running 6x 1080Ti from 1 PSU?
I got 4 custom PCIe to 2 x 6+2 cables.

536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How much do you pay per kw and where are you from? :s on: August 21, 2017, 07:49:49 PM
About $0.12 per kWh, fixed regardless of how much I use.  I live in Virginia USA.  I also have 20kWh solar system, so before I started mining, I was using and consuming right around 2,000 kWh per month, so I only had to pay a $30 a month "basic fee".  Now that I'm mining, I'm using closer to 4,000 kWh per month.  So I guess in a way you could say that my overall cost is $0.06 kWh since my solar is able to supply 50% of my overall consumption.

WOW! I would dump those power amps and switch to some powered speakers at some point. Nothing is wrong with Genelec or Mackie. Storage has got to go too. All power and space belongs to miners! jk Smiley
Lol.  Well, those power amps take care of the Home Theater as well as other outdoor areas, and the storage holds all the media for the "neighborhood" and stuff flow in daily, so no immediate plans to chance any of that.  Now the .3PB Burst mining that I'm doing with 3 of those chassis you see, I'm going to make a decision in the next couple of month if it is worth continuing that.  Burst is at an all time low right now, but I know, HODL all the way!  Smiley

Thanks, this is interesting.  You've gone with the right low profile 1080 Ti card.  I was just about to ask about TDP because even at 70%, with those six cards you'd be hitting the wall with that 1,200 EVGA psu.
Yeah, I'm running at 62% power at the moment and pulling around 1070W from the socket.  I'll likely invest in a 1600W EVGA Platinum at some point.  Hopefully before I melt this one, although it does have a 10 year warranty.

60C is not bad temperature, but they are running at ~55% of TDP. What's the ambient temp like? Do you run the case with the lid closed?
The "cold isle" (basement hallway) is 76F and the "hot isle" (server room behind the racks) is about 80F with a 750 CFM fan sucking hot air to the outside 24/7.

Lid is off until/if I stack another miner on top, then I'll upgrade to Delta fans.
540  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New Rosewill Server Mining Case UPDATE 2 and we have more pics. on: August 17, 2017, 09:00:07 PM
Temps are not bad at all:

Those are 1500 RPM Noctura 120mm fans.  They only push 55 cfm.  If I ever decide to put the cover on and stack more miners, I'll be switching to some Delta 4000 RPM fans for sure.
