You can't expect the world to put it's confidence in utilizing bitcoin as a currency system with a market cap of $40M... that's a yacht.
Confidence is the biggest problem, imho. I think the entity that did the most damage to that in Bitcoin was the MyBitcoin.com scam. (If i remember right, that was the payment processor for Meze Grill back then also.) Did the members of the Bitcoin community who lost the most B to MyBitcoin even put up a bounty for the whereabouts, identity and the balls of MyBitcoin.com's owner? Just given that, not to mention financial reasons, if i were a small merchant like Meze, for now i would stick with "the devils i know" also...

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. Go tell all the restaurants you know about the wonderful savings they can enjoy if they accept "bitcoin" instead of regular payments...
As optimistic as i am about B, for now, i have to agree with the naysayers that B is impractical at the cash register. I am in the 3rd world boonies right now, where my favorite eatery accepts only the local paper money. It's too expensive for the locals - 16USD a plate and up, but still considers it disadvantageous to accept even CC's for several reasons... I told the young, IT-literate guy who manages it about B, its benefits to him, and things like Bit-pay. It's not appealing to him. None of his customers besides me have even heard of Bit-pay, OKpay, etcetera, not to mention Bitcoin... The current payment processors, such as Bit-pay, charge the same as the powers that be to move payments into fiat, AND are subject to the same fiat moving restrictions due to the American-led War on Terrorism, Drugs, Iran and Whatever-Else-They-Can-Think-Of... SO, EVEN where B doesn't have to compete with ANY other form of electronic payment or EVEN strong fiat paper, it's not appealing to store-front merchants... Nothing lasts forever though... For now, i think B has much better potential with things like classifieds and auctions.

Testify! Some "completely decentralized currency" this is turning out to be, with MtG doing 90% of the trades, and Deepbit doing at least 1/3 of the mining. Once Bitcoin is popular enough, it will be very convenient for whatever entity to take over MtG along with all the B that's in its wallets at any given time, under whatever pretense... Then it will be very clear to all of us how short-sighted and stupid we were to put so many of the eggs of the golden goose in the same old centralized baskets... Happy dwelling in the "completely decentralized currency" delusion! Party on!

Today's extensive BBC report on the situation in Greece prompts me to restate my question above. It's curious that given the acute financial turmoil, talk of revolution and civil war there, there seems to be little interest in monetary alternatives such as Bitcoin among the Greeks; at least it doesn't seem to show either here or on Google Trends...

you got GOXED!
+1 What's really ______ed up about the whole scam is that MtG will allow you to DEPOSIT both fiat and Bitcoin as much as you want without any verification. It's only when you want to withdraw that you find out that "Your papers are not in order!" It's the same old KYC dejavu of the existing A_____s Incorporated financial system all over again. With Bitcoin at MtG, one is just exchanging one kind of government approved exchange for another... Whether or not i ever get what little i have at MtG out, i won't use it for trading again, and will recommend to everyone i know that they don't use it. The end of the MtG oligopoly in Bitcoin is long overdue...

BitMit

I am now worried about gox, but if gox fails so does bitcoin...
If both the above happen Crypto X Change will still be here Goat! We are here for the long haul. Crypto X Change Word! So, will other new xchanges. As we say in Russia, "Свято место пусто не бывает!" "A holy place doesn't remain empty!" One has to keep in mind that Bitcoin started before MtG, and not the other way around. So, MtG failure will not equal Bitcoin failure...

It seems I really need a YubiKey since already forgot my password At best we're at 10 keys, while I was thought we would reach 50 easily. Hopefully more people will join in the near future Things like this get lost in the noise on this forum, especially here in the Newbies section... Perhaps, there is an idea there for some kind of a group-buying business for you...

User #1 -\ /- User #1 User #2 -| - > Product Shipper (Aka Group Buyer) -> |- User #2 User #3 -/ \- User #3
Shipper would buy the products and ship them out to each user but each user's transaction would have it's own tracking address.
+1 Right. Then even an unknown newbie like the OP could be the group buyer, because he would only get the B if he ships to each user. BTCrow would get 1% from the total, we agree on whatever percentage the group buyer gets for the work, say another 1%. The rest is shipping, which is variable for each user...

Too bad their isn't a BTC Escrow with group pay.
Perhaps, if we contact the owner of BTCrow, he would facilitate a group pay, as a new feature.

I am in for one, IF we use BTC Escrow as the "respected member of the community", AND pay in B.

You're not missing much:
"An internal server error occurred. Please try again later."
Yes, i think they lost interest, and will not come out of "private beta". One can still log in, if one reloads the page a few times... Unless it's a honeypot.gov, perhaps, they are just waiting for MtG to buy them out. Sad. They have some great features and potential...

Bump. Has anyone heard anything about when ruxum will come out of "private beta"?

i was willing to spend much more when the price was higher, because i bought them so much lower. I still use them whenever i can though, because i buy more of them when the rate drops. BTW, i thought i heard in this video something about how at MtG there is some kind of a mechanism now to protect merchants against exchange fluctuation losses as well... Bitcoins are "cash" to me. So, i am not converting them to other forms of "cash" (currency) unless i have to for some reason, because i think there is much more upside potential in them, compared to any other currency, including metal...

I am not ripping anyone off. I am a business person and a business with no profit is not a business at all. for the $50 card I pay 53.38, factor in the bit-pay fees and I make a whopping $4.88. for the $100 card I pay 105.88 and factoring in the bit-pay fees I make a huge $5.78. If that is a rip off then I am surprised. Also the idea of Bitcoin is great but without a good exchange rate who would use it?
Also please tell me which advantage I am removing? How is greed bad? Doesn't greed lead to financial security? Ive never met a poor greedy person.
If you don't like the pricing then I guess you can go with someone else who is looking to buy into bitcoins for whatever purpose. I on the other hand am interested in turning a profit. Everyone should know that and I do not hide it. Imagine that, a business trying to turn a profit.
Well, if 8% profit is trivial for you, just make it 80%, 180%, 280%... After all, you are "a business trying to turn a profit." The point is that expensive middle-men like you, bit-pay, etcetera, have descended on Bitcoin like flies on ____, and are turning it from a very low-cost payment system to a higher-cost one than already exist from the powers that be... With such "a good exchange rate", who would use Bitcoin is indeed a great question, and one of the reasons Bitcoin isn't catching on that fast: there are too many con and ripoff artists in it... The average person is no worse off with the existing government-backed ripoff artists, and other "devils we already know", rather than the ones we don't know...

If i understand the deal correctly after visiting your site, you are selling these cards for a fee of over 25%! Way to promote Bitcoin use! So much of "the Bitcoin economy" is turning out to be more expensive middle-men added to already existing ones... What a joke! You are erasing all of the advantages of using B for payment through simple old-fashioned quick-buck greed... For that, i won't deal with your "business" in the future either... Happy ripping! "There is a fool born every minute" for you...
