im buying as much nomero as i can
pm me offers for large amounts (10+ BTC/trade w/ escrow)

You buying on Poloniex too?

i dislike poloniex hard sorry. i lost a lot of btc when it was compromised

use escrow and one-to-one trade. i also would send btc first to 100% trusted members

10btc+ per trade volume only

What happened on poloniex?

I have published the entire trade history for bytecoin on cryptonote exchange: https://cryptonote.exchange.to/exchange_transactions_bcn.csv

type: 1 = buy, 2 = sell
time: UTC

Some people got a good price in the OTC topic (you can see the trades here). Also if you would like to see the trade history on the worlds first cryptonote exchange the full history is available here.

My personal best
05.05.2014   5000 XMR @ 0,0006 = 3 BTC

How do I know the monero team hasn't ruined the anonymity of Bytecoin?
At least get some cryptographers interested enough in your project to take a look at it.
Simply compare the sourcecode and study the differences. That's how you know they didn't ruin the anonymity of bytecoin.

payments command allows you to see the transaction, height, amount etc by using just the payment id. Useful to track a payment you are expecting as there is no way to use the block explorer in the same way as BTC.

How does the system ensure that the Payment ID is unique ?

i.e. what's to stop me from entering any old non-unique payment ID like "hello" ?

It doesn't. You can re-use same payment id as many times as you like.

ok - so the payment ID is just a kind of user annotation on the transaction. Presumably then I can add it even if it isn't needed at the other end but if an exchange specifies one for deposits then I must use their specified one.

Is that it ?

Yep. The exchange assigns a payment id to a user and when payment is incoming to that payment id they will know which user to credit. All users send payment to the same monero address, so there is only one way to know who sent the funds, and that is using payment id.

On top of all that, I've already lost about 100 XMR because I transferred exchange to exchange 'the normal way' and it's now disappeared into the 'ether'.
Provide the exchange with txid and I'm sure they will help you out. If you withdrew from cryptonote exchange I'm able to provide txid if you contact us by support ticket and provide amount and address. I had quite a few contact me about this, it appears to be a pretty common mistake unfortunately. Perhaps poloniex should increase the font size of the warning and make it red

Made a little script for converting wallet keys to a printable string and back: https://cryptonote.exchange.to/paper_wallet.php

maybe someone will find it useful, should work with all cryptonote currencies..
Sending private keys to internet? No, thanks.

Before you criticize something, read carefully please.

its opensource and the sourcecode is linked, just download and run it yourself.

Having the option to upload your wallet.dat file is retarded. lol
Don't be retarded, download the source or upload an encrypted wallet (i'm not sure which encryption is used so probably better running it on your own server).

And there is no guaranty that linked source is the one that is actually executed on the server.
Where is the guarantee that monero binaries is the actual source code?

So Anoncoin is just one (major) dev?
Well pretty much, we are all waiting for Gnosis to finish the ZC implementation at this point. Meeh said he will do the UI to spare Gnosis for some work however:
Code:
[19:03] <hhhzzzz75> over in anoncoin-dev , meeh has been ‘working on the GUI’ for 5 months
[19:03] <hhhzzzz75> and here it is revealed he has zero direction for what the GUI should look like
[19:03] <hhhzzzz75> there is no gui. meeh is doing nothing

Code:
[10:26] <M10> Gnosis, about two weeks have passed, leaving a zerocoin release in about 4 weeks (max).
[10:26] <M10> Could you let us know if you are on track to meet this deadline?
[21:14] <coinRelay> <Gnosis@I2P> M10_: I believe I am on track
[21:15] <coinRelay> <Gnosis@I2P> my job is not as busy now, so I will have more time to work on zerocoin
[21:15] <coinRelay> <Gnosis@I2P> I am getting very close to having a working client/server for RSA UFO factoring
[21:15] <coinRelay> <Gnosis@I2P> (what meeh calls "brute forcing" :P)
[21:15] <coinRelay> <Gnosis@I2P> after that, it's back to working on zerocoin itself

Code:
[22:28] <myeagleflies> Gnosis: ok. any update to ETA on completion of ZC?
[23:12] <coinRelay> <Gnosis@I2P> myeagleflies: I am aiming for July 10 for getting it on the testnet
[23:13] <coinRelay> <Gnosis@I2P> probably not much longer before it's on mainnet

534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Open Letter] Enough. Altcoin exchanges have to be public or die. on: June 08, 2014, 05:50:16 PM
It's not like knowing the name and face of Mark Karpeles prevented his exchange from becoming the biggest fraud in history of bitcoin.
But like I mentioned in OP, it differentiates the with ones with at least the intention to run it professionally exchanges. Of course that intention is not always sufficient. But it's already a big differentiator if the exchange is transparent.

Not necessarily. If you are a public figure you also make yourself a target of extortion.

BTC-E is pretty anonymous is it not?

I must be doing something wrong... When I try to transfer more than 1 XMR I get this error msg. I'm using the right command (transfer 0 <Deposit Address> <amount> <Payment ID>) Any ideas?

Error: transaction <2c8673622b1b0197add13c336ed439ee3884252da11417b25bcb2794dde14f4b> is too big. Transaction size: 35187 bytes, transaction size limit: 24400 bytes

Thanks!
You're not doing anything wrong, but there is a limit on transaction size. You have received many small transactions thus your transaction will use very many inputs and in total it is above transaction limit. To fix this send smaller amounts. If you need to send exactly 1 XMR you could setup another wallet where you transfer funds first, e.g in increments of 0.1 XMR or whatever is the maximum you can send.

would one of you pros mine helping me with the cli wallet?

A friend of mine transferred 506 xmr to my wallet and I am trying to get them to his poloniex account, but I am having this problem:

http://imgur.com/nFKegY1

it would appear I am not typing the code in the correct format. Also, not sure what it means by "non negative integer" because I AM using a non negative integer for mixin count.

I am trying to first send 6 to his poloniex account, then another 500, once the first 6 confirm. Thanks for the help!
Don't use < and >

Wait for me before you close the exchange please  Embarrassed
Don't worry, people has only withdrawed about 20% of the MRO so far, looks like we're going to stay up for a while. If it's too much trouble for you, submit a ticket with your payment id and then request a withdraw, I'll do it manually for you.
