5241  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Gobrrrrrr on: March 24, 2022, 12:16:39 PM
Wow! That is a one great looking case for SeedSigner, it's smaller than original and I like it much more than orange pill case.

If possible, I'd love to offer more of those cool new cases people have designed, especially the one from @designbtc. But I don't want to profit from other people's open source designs without their consent. I can contact the designers, if they agree I'd be more than happy to offer their cases as well.
You can always print those cases and post a link below to .stl files.
Some people don't have 3dprinters or they are lazy to find local 3d printer shop, so there is nothing bad if they buy them from you.

Honest question to the community, should I just ditch paypal right now on the spot? I'd very much appreciate your opinions.
No, I don't think you should remove option for Paypal payments (even if I am not a fan of PP).
People love to have choice when they want to purchase stuff, and there could always be some issues with other payments methods, for example high fees for Bitcoin.
Better think that some people maybe want to buy SeedSigner with fiat money so they can start using Bitcoin later.
I would want to enable as much payment options as possible, if it was my shop Wink
5242  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: March 24, 2022, 12:05:14 PM
I tried various servers, from EU countries to NA and Asia and speed was generally very good, between 50-60 Mbps which is more than enough for comfortable 4k HDR streaming/torrenting.
What is your normal internet speed without using any VPN?
50-60 Mbps is not bad but it could be better especially if your normal speed is much higher than that, but it all depends from country you choose, latency, percentage of use for specific location and other factors.
The search goes on. Or I will just use 2 different VPNs from now on, Mullvad + something else.
I saw that windscribe is offering location that are specialized servers used for streaming and netflix, there are four of them in Canada, United States, United Kingdom and Japan.
Only thing is that you can use this locations only if you have pro account I think, but I can't confirm that because I never tried how it works.
I wanted to try Surfshark that looks decent and they son't have any bandwidth limits or restrictions.
5243  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cool and quiet miner exists? on: March 24, 2022, 11:45:04 AM
Is there any plug and play crypto miner that doesn't make noise and doesn't generate heat like GPU and ASIC?
I saw many videos of DIY projects used for soundproofing noisy asic miners, and after you put them in the box and close it you couldn't hear almost anything.
There are even some premade plug'n'play silencers used specifically for asic miners, but I think they are not as cheap as making your own isolated box.
Search youtube with terms like soundproof asic miner and you will see what I am talking about.
5244  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Open source Bitcoin ATM repository on: March 23, 2022, 05:25:18 PM
I am bringing this topic to life, instead of creating new one from scratch.
There is one Open-Source Crypto ATM project or short OSCA, with instructions for making your own Bitcoin ATM at home if you have basic electro-mechanical skill.
You don't have to disclose any personal information to use this ATM, you just inserts cash and the machine returns a printed paper wallet with Bitcoin, than you scan the QR code to sweep the wallet.

OSCA Project is still in beta phase, and this ATM machines are not trustless that means that you will have to trust that owner wont scam you.
This is how OSCA Bitcoin ATM looks like when it is completed, and yes OSCA is accepting only Bitcoin, not any altcoins:

OSCA Project is made by Anthony Budd who is Node.js and PHP developer.
Early instructions are posted on project github page, it is using Arduino, and detailed version will be released in future.

5245  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S Plus on: March 23, 2022, 04:59:02 PM
Few days ago people have started to receive Legde Nano S Plus devices they pre-ordered and I am starting to see first unboxing videos and early review coming out.
Decrypt released small article reviewing this device, posting images with process of installation and comparison with older devices released by ledger.
Same aluminum rotating shield is used that protects plastic body that holds bigger screen of this device that has similar size like older model S, but design is more rounded for case and buttons.
Looking at some unboxing videos I saw they are providing protective foil for this screen to protect from scratches, and it doesn't have to be removed.
Package includes new USB-C braided cable with instructions, and memory in this device is 1.5MB but only 1.28MB is available for apps.
Note that Nano S Plus is still closed source and it uses same proprietary operating system called BOLOS.

5246  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: New version of Wasabi Wallet (22 March 2022) on: March 23, 2022, 01:04:13 PM
The download went OK, but there seems to be no obvious differences in the new version (this one is version 1.1.13.1, I do not know what the version number of the "last one" was).
When in doubt just check github.
Latest version v1.1.13.1 released  on mainnet have only small Tor client update with minor bug fixes, and there is no change in interface or anything else.
If you want to test new Wasabi v2 you can do it only in testnet and download separate pre-release version 1.98.
I download it when it was initially released and I was interested in testing it... but I lost the interest after hearing the bad zkSNACKs news :/

5247  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Hardware wallet vs software wallet for daily transaction on: March 23, 2022, 12:54:20 PM
No, not all can. Especially iOS supports only a very limited number of HW wallets since it doesn't allow to use the USB port.
I didn't know about this, but can't you just use simple usb adapter and connected hardware wallet with your phone.

Another option is to have a HW wallet for on-the-go with less funds on it and one for larger amounts in a more secure location like a safe at home.
You could, but I don't see any point in doing that for smaller transactions, and you will only increase transaction fees.
Maybe fees are not such a big issue now but I think we all remember the times when we had to wait for weekend to get lower fees.

I consider PC even less secure than the mobile phone when it comes to keeping private keys securely.
I would not agree with that statement in general, computers can have much better encryption protection and they don't have backdoors like smartphones.
Like it or not smartphones are always connected with network or internet, and it's really easy to get totally airgapped offline computer.
Is it easier to use smartphones than laptop computer for making secure transactions? Not for me for various reasons, but other may disagree with me.
5248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Did I mess up my Chipmixer transaction? on: March 23, 2022, 12:34:46 PM
I might be wrong on this one, but I don't think that uBlock Origin[1] is enough to warrant protection from phishing websites. All the more I would say that we shouldn't let our guard down just because we're using uBlock Origin - or any other protective measure - as we may be still prone to attack vectors. As an example, I'm a user of uBlock Origin and here's the results I get when I'm search for "chipmixer" using Google (Firefox Browser)
I never said uBlock origin is enough Wink but it is good enough for removing scam advertisement that often shows up on top of the page.
This extensions can't change search engine algorithm and results or remove fake chipmixer websites, unless someone makes custom filter rules for excluding them (this might be a good suggestion for Chipmixer team).
Problem with this custom rules (let's call it Chipmixer rule) is they need to be updated all the time, because scammers are creating new domains every day.

There is one page with many uBlock Filters, and custom filter list can be imported easily:

5249  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Gobrrrrrr on: March 23, 2022, 12:16:50 PM
Nice work with gobrrr website and I knew about it for some time as I am following SeedSigner project, but what I didn't know is that owner of this website is also a bitcointalk member Wink
Interesting that full kits (Open Pill and Orange Pill) for SeedSigner can be purchased from this website, including Rapsberry Pi Zero, Screen with all other parts and video instructions for assembling.
What I would like to see is those cool new SeedSigner cases that are popping up recently, but it's not always easy to find .stl files for them Smiley
Good to see both onchain and lightning payment are available for payments with BtcPayServer.
5250  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: March 23, 2022, 12:04:16 PM
It sounds like the standard disclaimer that anyone just dismisses and clicks "ok" on. In my opinion, a VPN is one of those services where you should not dismiss terms you don't agree with.
All the more reason I won't use any of those VPNs. There's literally nothing like it in Mullvad's Terms.
You know those terms looks fine on paper but they can be changed at any time, especially when we know that Mullvad is based in Sweden, and that is one of the 14 Eyes countries.
It's not like we didn't see terms being changed recently or played around them, like for example with Proton mail that many forum members here praised multiple times.
Mullvad vpn is good but I wouldn't trust any vpn including Mullvad for anything serious.
5251  Economy / Reputation / Re: Trust abuse on: March 23, 2022, 11:49:50 AM
I managed to send krog an email explaining that 2 actions he took cross some very cared for rules here.
I am glad to see at least one forum dispute between two members is resolved in a peaceful way.
It appears there is still some hope for humanity  Smiley

OP I think it's time for locking this topic now.
5252  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet that supports BTC on PC (Extension) on: March 23, 2022, 11:35:50 AM
Hi, friend. btw recently i know bitcoin or cryptoqurrency along with a wallet mobile (Trustwallet).
I'm interested in using a web wallet or some kind of extension (metamask) But the problem is that (metamask) doesn't support BTC assets and I plan to store BTC assets on a PC with the aim of using them to trade without having to go through a mobile phone.
please recommend. Thank you in advance.
There are few web wallets and browser extensions that support Bitcoin along with other shitcoins, but I would not suggest using them as your main wallet.
Only use this wallets for smaller amounts of coins, for daily transactions, or for testing purposes.
Maybe the best option I know is open source project called Liquality, that is browser extension that works both in Firefox and Chromium based browsers.
It is non-custodial and you can use Liquality as a wallet and even for swapping with other coins using Atmoic swaps.
I am not supporting this wallet in any way but I think it suits your need, and you can find more information to research on links below:

Cutting it is easy, making it look good is the difficult part Wink
Did you actually ever tried cutting stainless steel metal?
I did cut various metals before in my life but it was never stainless steel  so I can't really say more about it.
Most people would create very sharp edges that are begging for blood from fingers, and I have seen people cut themselves many times even on paper Smiley
You would need to have proper tools depending on how thick metal is, and it's not good if metal is to thin.

5254  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: SCAM upozorenja Zbirni topic on: March 22, 2022, 06:34:02 PM

5255  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor + Electrum Server on: March 22, 2022, 06:18:16 PM
I don't understand why someone wouldn't just use electrum if they wanted to be connecting to a particular electrum server. I feel like this is somewhat trying to reinvent a solution that already exists.
Because people want diversity and more options, and Trezor Suite is offering good open source alternative with added Tor settings enabled for privacy.
If anything bad happens with one wallet you can always switch and use alternative option.
Electrum is good wallet but it's not perfect, and if you already using Trezore hardware wallet you will use Trezor Suite also.

The signing part it's flawless, but I keep getting the following error whenever I'm trying to verify a message [Native SegWit] that I signed on Electrum [4.2]
I didn't test it myself and I can't open the image you sent (it keeps loading) so I can't see what's the issue exactly.
I also checked Trezor Suite github page but I couldn't find any similar reported issue, so maybe you can make one and explain what happened.

5256  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: March 22, 2022, 06:01:40 PM
Ok. If Jameson is against aluminum Smiley, then can replace it with any metal, be it copper, stainless steel, brass - which has high corrosion resistance, high melting point and strength. The catch may be that it will not be easy to find washers made of any metal.
I don't know what you mean exactly...because most washers are made from stainless steel and it has even better corrosion resistance than aluminum.
Aluminum in normal conditions have good corrosion resistance and will not rust, but if any acidic or base liquid is added it corrodes rapidly resulting in catastrophic failure.
This means that stainless steel is almost perfect for seed storage, and only other metal that would be better is titanium, that is much more expensive.

My alternative to washers: cut out a polygon from a sheet of metal (metal and thickness of your choice).  For example, a hexagon (I assume that a hexagon will be quite enough). The number of polygons will depend on the degree of your laziness, because you have to cut it yourself.  Wink Then drill a hole in the center. You will get a low-poly analogue of a washer. Using a hand-held power tool (drill, dremel), there should be no problems with making. I hope LoyceV will approve my proposal with an idea old-fashioned DIY woodworking metall.
This is just to much complicated for average human being, cutting metal is not very easy to do especially stainless steel, and will most likely result is cutting accidents and spilled blood, if not done correctly.
I am saying don't invent warm water all over again, just use washers or plates and don't overthink it.
5257  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Thoughts about Passport hardware wallet on: March 22, 2022, 01:44:23 PM
For as much as I would love to see this, I guess that they still need to grow a bit more before venturing into Europe (and beyond).
Yeah I know Foundation is still small company, but I don't want them to ever become so big (shit) like ledger Tongue
From what I heard, it looks like they do have plans for expanding and making more devices and models in future.

We're talking about a 50 € difference on a device that ends up costing almost 340 € so every bit of saving helps. As a final remark I would be really interested in trying out the product but at that price point its just unsustainable to me (at least for now). Glad that n0nce will eventually make a review of it!  Wink
It is a big difference and saved money, but I am wondering what's going to happen with prices of batch2.
You never know what happens next, maybe n0nce becomes new official reseller for Europe Cheesy
Maybe even Passport developers notice more activity and traffic coming from Bitcointalk forum and they send us few models for free testing and review.
5258  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor T is 4 years old. 50% discount on accessories in the official shop on: March 22, 2022, 01:33:21 PM
Is this Trezor making early first April jokes with 50% discount on accessories or what?  Roll Eyes
Nobody cares about stupid accessories like covers and screen protectors, so they should give real discount for their overpriced model T devices.
Imagine Toyota or Ferrari giving discounts on keychains with their logo, this is whats happening here.
Merit given for making me smile  Cheesy
5259  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: March 22, 2022, 01:19:52 PM
...
Interesting little project, but this looks like a cheap alternative that is more time consuming to make, and it's inferior to engraving procedure in many ways, and using glue and markers means that it can easily be removed with some liquids.

How about using washers from another metal? Softer, for example, aluminum. This metal is not subject to corrosion due to the oxide film, which is quite resistant to weathering. The melting point is also not very low. But the main advantage is ease and pliability in processing.
This is terrible idea!
Never use aluminum in any way for storing seed words... you can see Jameson Lopp test with some metal backups made partially from this metal.
It can be distorted much easier and it melt's on much lower temperature than stainless steel or copper, especially if it's some cheap alloy it can be even lower.
Someone said that you can easily avoid corrosion for stainless steel with industrial fat or even with paint, if you worry about that (I wouldn't if stored properly).
For comparison, it can have almost three times lower melting point compared to cheap washers made from stainless steel:

Aluminum 1220 F or 660 C
Aluminum Alloys 865-1240 F  or 463-671 C
Copper 1983 F  or 1084 C
Stainless Steel  2750 F  or 1510 C

Few days ago I saw in my local shop they are selling cheap engraving tool that works on Li-ion batteries and it comes with several templates made from letters, numbers and shapes.
This can easily be used to make custom metal backup for bitcoin, but templates and tip is bigger than washers, so I would need to buy bigger washers, or use metal plates.
Engraving tool I saw works on all surfaces like wood, plastic, stone and metal, nut I am not sure how it will work on stainless steel yet.
Here is one video of one similar tool:

5260  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Did I mess up my Chipmixer transaction? on: March 22, 2022, 01:00:48 PM
I used duckduckgo in a tor browser.  I'm new to tor, btc and chipmixer so I'm trying to figure out how to verify links, etc. I hadn't even heard of bitcointalk until today.
Can you please repeat that search and show us exact page result or screenshot?
I just typed the word Chipmixer in DDG similar like you did and I got a bunch of fake chipmixer wesbites, then I repeated same with brave search and I got less scam, and even less with presearch.org.
I stopped using duckduckgo because they started with censoring information they are now not much different than google big brother, and I would suggest everyone to stop using it.
One more simple solution for using any search provider is using adblockers, something like uBlock origin for example, and they will block most ads including scam website.

PS
Sorry for losing your money  Tongue
