5241  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Starfish BCB - Loans and Deposits (deposit rate 1.5%/week from 1 July) on: June 28, 2012, 03:25:27 PM
Hi.  Remember me?  I was the guy who tried to take out a BS loan.  Well, no more.  I'm beginning anew.
And I thought you made another account already.
5242  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Beware of this scammer on: June 28, 2012, 02:32:02 PM
Wrong section, man. Post this in the trading discussions.  Undecided
Tough luck but that's what you get from PayPal unfortunately. The willingness to pay a high fee should be seen as a warning flag.

What on earth is this red flag?

5245  Economy / Lending / Re: 5 - 10 BTC Loan Request on: June 28, 2012, 02:00:57 PM
See this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=75742.0
Borrowing to refinance your previous loans don't really work.
5246  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: June 28, 2012, 06:26:48 AM
I would like out of here please.
My main intent is to be able to PM another member to participate in an investment.
I primarily read the forum and am a lurker.. until today Smiley
You can PM already.
5247  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-06-27 newscientist.com - Freicoin: Occupy's online currency for the 99 per on: June 28, 2012, 01:11:32 AM
No interest in this one. This is no different with my fiat sitting in banks - they both devalue and get nibbled off by fees and so.
5248  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Looking for investor of 8.5 BTC on: June 28, 2012, 01:05:55 AM
Scam detected?

On EVE Online this thread would be defined as "scam" by everyone

If Eve/CCP added btc as a means of selling plex/ISK I'd resub.

edit -
This sounds a bit fishy. I mean, if he doesn't even offer a proper product, and just wants you to send him Bitcoins like that, then he's probably a scammer.

Do threads like this not get locked pretty quickly or are the mods incredibly lenient here?

it is not a scam, it is educational experience for all parties involved.  Wink

We don't generally censor free speech.

Makes sense to me.

I suppose it's my newbie status, but what can you hope to accomplish with 8.5BTC worth of starter investment? In most of the Industrialized world that's not a months groceries(far less), so if you are having to scrounge for that, how are you feeding yourself?
By the way, please note that the second bolded part is meant to be sarcastic. This 8.5 BTC issue is most probably a scam.

You must provide evidence that shows that you either understand more about Bitcoin than the average newbie, or that what you want to post can only be done in another forum.

I made a purchase in the goods forum and want to vouch for the seller in his thread.  I don't mind if you set me back to noobie mode after I've vouched for the seller.
Who did you buy it from? If that person is trustworthy and would vouch for you, I could whitelist you.

I bought from Maidak, but he only has 25 posts himself. Not sure at what point someone is considered "trustworthy."

Whitelisted as Maidak seems to be trustworthy provided he is the same person I'm thinking of.

Requesting to be whitelisted.

I've made several legitmate posts.

A recent topic I started in the Newbie forum isn't getting any responses because it doesn't really belong in that forum:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=56508.0

Would you please whitelist me?

I'm requesting again to be whitelisted. I'd like to ask a question in the thread for a security I'm holding.
Whitelisted.

I posted the post below in the Newbies forum but I think it would be better suited for the Mining forum and would like to post it there:
---------
"Hi,
I've read a lot about Bitcoin and have decided to try solo mining. I realize that it's a bit like playing the lottery now - probably not economical to do so, usually - but operational costs are not a concern for me at this time. However, I have run into problems with the bitcoin official client, bitcoin-qt.exe: after two unintended shutdowns, I got the error with the blkindex.dat file. I know I can clear appdata and reinstall it, but that requires spending hours downloading the blocks all over again each time, and I suspect further shutdowns may occur so it'll be quite a pain having to re-do it each time. I'm using guiminer and it seems to require this particular client for solo mining. Is there any other client with faster load times and/or a different miner I can try? Is it possible to solo mine with a light client, or no client at all?

Thank you."
Already a Jr, so no need whitelisting.
5251  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum lost password [D0H !] on: June 28, 2012, 12:14:05 AM
No, there should be no software lock.
Do you still remember the seed password? If not, unfortunately there's no viable way of recovering your password as the keys are all encrypted. If there were a backdoor, the password feature would be useless to everyone.

5253  Other / Off-topic / Re: Wife and I bought a Restaurant!!!!! on: June 27, 2012, 11:57:55 AM
Well while its true that bitcoins bought my wife a few purses... lol a lot of hard work bought us a Restaurant. Even though its a running business we have a lot of work and restructuring to do. So I am making a pre announcement that soon could be a few weeks could be a few month:

Panama will have the first bitcoin accepting restuarant

Just very exited with the doors this new venture has opened. I might not too active on the forums but will be here every so often to catch up on the world of bitcoins.
Excited to hear that.  Grin
I've never been to Panama but I would definitely visit if I had to chance to go there. (probably next year?)
5254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Am I missing something here? on: June 27, 2012, 11:55:36 AM
Perhaps I'm being a bit of a wally, but I'm confused.

I thought the idea of Bitcoin was to cut-out the middleman and have direct payment transfers between sender and receiver.

So why is Bit-Pay flourishing? If we use Bit-Pay the middleman is back again, taking their cut. So we're back where we started. We might as well use Paypal again???

Maybe I'm missing something here?

Until you find a chip-fab that would accept bitcoins, bit-pay and the sort would still flourish. However, bitcoins as a currency medium is definitely working here. (lower costs to transfer money as compared to traditional methods, no chargebacks etc)
5255  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ Bonus PPS Pool - 110% ] - Public Beta - WAITING LIST OPEN on: June 27, 2012, 11:50:36 AM
Please note that my hashrate will decrease by ~10% on afternoons due to the extreme temperature here as my cards will downclock themselves when the temperature >78*C. I'm not hopping or doing anything of the sort.  Wink
5256  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions on: June 27, 2012, 11:41:30 AM
Restrictions could be more strict.
It takes around 5 minutes actual time to get ride of the newbie status.

No, you'll need at least 4 hours.

America
Use https://www.bitinstant.com/ for hassle free instant transfers. (I'm not affiliated with them, just suggesting.) Or alternatively use my link above and see which exchange you want to give business.

It depends on where you live. A general guide on buying BTC can be found here : https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Buying_bitcoins
5260  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do we have the total of nonempty wallet on the network? on: June 27, 2012, 01:14:37 AM
642432 addresses with non-zero balance as of block 177778. Bitcoind holds this data, and you can query it by using specialized patches. I'll search around for that once I get to my computer.
