5301  Economy / Economics / Re: Passive Income on: December 18, 2015, 02:28:09 PM
Don't know if this is really considered a passive income, but I run a couple of websites that earn me some affiliate income plus some Google Adsense revenue.
I do have to keep them updated to maintain a high number of visitors.

My only really passive income is from cloud mining Smiley

So the cloud mining actually works and is not a scam?

Cloud mining is a scam. No doubt about it. You will never break even.
not exactly never. if the mining operation is legitimate, meaning not a ponzi scheme, you should eventually ROI after a long period of time, maybe around a year. however, it is true that it generally is not profitable, given the long ROI time and high maintenance fees for the service.
I've done my research and went with Genesis-Mining, they've proved that they are actually mining and are actually very transparent about their operation.
And yeah it's true that it will take a long time to make any ROI, but my results so far are pretty positive.

Ok, show me how can you ROI with them, in what universe. Pls share with us what you have purchased, at what price, also pls calculate moderate 10% diff growth. We all know it s gonna grow at least twice as that but you can be much more moderate. Then share your figures with us and if I m wrong, I ll apologize.

YOU CANT MAKE MONEY WITH THEM CAUSE THEY SELL BS PRODUCTS.
Well I can't predict how long those lifetime contracts will last, so I would have to get back to you in a couple of months.
And my point was that Genesis-Mining and a few other cloud mining services were not a scam, NOT that they were a good investment.

FYI, I invest in cloud mining with the prospect that Bitcoin will be significantly more valuable in the future. OK, it might be a better option to just buy Bitcoin and HODL, but I personally like my approach better.

If you are into legit cloud mining. I would suggest you hashnest instead of genesis mining. Not that genesis mining is  not legit, they are well knowned and make a good job, but you will have less fee with hashnest and more profit.

Still...Invest where you think would be the best to suit you, both are good.

Yeah Hashnest would be my second option, but I was under the impression that Genesis-Mining was slightly more transparent about their operation. You're completely correct about the fees being very high though.

Nicely done, you've really put some work into this, I hope you'll reach your goal eventually.
I'll give the fish some dinner soon! Wink

Edit: loved the fish animation Wink
5303  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Best Countries for Bitcoin Businesses on: December 18, 2015, 01:15:01 PM
I would also add Netherlands to the above mentioned Switzerland and Isle of Man. Netherlands is by far the most open minded country and the country where Bitcoin adoption has advanced the most in comparison with the number of its citizens.
Agreed, as a neighbour (Belgian), I use a lot of Bitcoin related services that are located in The Netherlands.
i have to admit that Belgium is quite a bit behind, in terms of adoption and number of services that are available.
5304  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BTC mining in your telephone - yes or no on: December 18, 2015, 01:10:17 PM
Just think - your telephone is always on. If with special BTC miner you can mine some BTC in your telephone - why not ? But the monthly BTC profit can be very low, because telephone can not mine a lot.  Wink

Lol that's an innovative idea at least we could earn some Bitcoin from telephone something is better than nothing, may in future they might come up with something like that.
Innovative? There has been an app for that for at least a year. It's not worth it in my opinion.
Your phone will overheat and it will severely reduce the lifespan of your device. Plus the amount of Bitcoins you generate is literally just dust.
5305  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: New site to earn USD or Bitcoin! on: December 18, 2015, 11:52:30 AM
Normally, I tend not to waste my time with these kind of sites, but this one is kinda interesting, as there is no minimum payout requirement.
Pretty handy for getting some extra change without having to click ads for an entire year to reach payout.
5306  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can we spread Bitcoin effectively. on: December 18, 2015, 11:47:36 AM
I think it's pretty effective to just use Bitcoin around your friends without pushing it in their faces. They will notice the benefits eventually, like the ease of use and low fees.
When I'm ordering pizza with some friends for example, I pay using Bitcoin and my friends notice that I don't have to pay the 1 euro transaction fee that they have to pay (Using online banking/CC).

Some of them use Bitcoin exclusively to order pizza now.

That's a nice option instead of pushing it into their faces. I might try introducing bitcoin to my friends this way. Everyone loves pizza and it's nice to show them how it all works.
Yeah, I've noticed when you give them the whole technical explanation and start hyping it up, less tech-savvy people tend to find that annoying, at least in my experience.
Better to just show them the benefits in a practical, non-obtrusive manner.

5308  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for "How to do x with Bitcoin" Article Writers on: December 18, 2015, 09:05:26 AM
I'd write one on how to create a simple web shop, using Wordpress and GoUrl, that accepts Bitcoin as a payment method.
It would be around 750 words or more, with screenshots. I'm not a native speaker, but you can review my post history to see if my English skills are sufficient.

Hoping the topic isn't too niche for your website though, but I'd love to write about something that's somewhat technical.

I'm estimating it would take me about 2 days to write, if I squeeze it in between some other projects.
5309  Economy / Speculation / Re: How will halving affect the value? on: December 18, 2015, 08:40:23 AM
The value will definitely rise because of hype at first, there might even be a small crash afterwards, but over time it will increase again.

This is what I don't understand, and I've posted this in another thread about the same thing:  I think the price of bitcoin already reflects the halving.  It's not a surprise, and so there should be no reaction to it once it happens.

Does that make sense?  I'm not a huge believer in the efficient market hypothesis, but I think it should be true for this.
I dunno, I could see some kind of snowball effect where, because of mainstream media coverage, there could be increased interest with the general public, causing another bubble.
5310  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo Mining on an S3 with 51.1 Difficulty - here we go! UPDATE: Block Found!! on: December 18, 2015, 08:25:40 AM
someone hit a block on cks pool last night!

That was me.  Rented 55T for 14 hours and hit the lottery!!!
Cool to see that you found one so fast with 55T, still pretty lucky I'd say Smiley
I've been renting like 2T for the last 14 days on Betarigs and no luck yet sadly.

On a side note: are there any other mining rig rental sites that you or someone else could recommend? Been having issues with deposits on Betarigs...
5311  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: In Gambling any one got cheated by house? on: December 18, 2015, 08:21:27 AM
I've definitely played on some slots that had a very low payout rate, that's something I'll notice after playing a while.
I kinda consider this cheating, but I avoid casinos that have slots like this.
5312  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What did you buy on bitcoin black Friday? on: December 18, 2015, 08:16:42 AM
This was the first year I actually bought anything with bitcoin on black friday.
I bought some nice silver coins and a trezor wallet. Still waiting for them to arrive though...

5314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big banks creating Bitcoin alternative on: December 18, 2015, 12:29:18 AM
Wrong title!

What the big banks are creating is not a BTC alternative, nor is it against BTC at all. BTC is a cryptocurrency with an open public ledger. The big banks are creating a large distributed record book, but it won't be public (it's only for big banks), and it won't be associated with a cryptocurrency.

I like it. The big banks are doing their thing, and they don't mess around with BTC.
Indeed, they're just planning on using the blockchain internally as their own ledger to reduce costs and improve on efficiency. There might also be other applications.
I've seen similar articles a while back, isn't really something new.

5315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What unit do you find more comfortable when measuring BTC values? on: December 16, 2015, 10:53:21 AM
Im curious about the statistics on this nowadays. Honestly I don't know if it's only me but im still used to BTC, even if it would be seen as inconvenient with small amounts, might be because I used BTC only for years. Lately I also learned dealing and managing in satoshis when I started getting small payments because of the sig campaigns. Im really slow when it comes to math so this helped me (experiencing it by using it yourself).
BTC + sat for me then, maybe BTC if I really had to choose.
I prefer to use BTC as opposed to those other units of measurement, I always need to look them up when someone mentions satoshis or mBTC.
And I don't really mind seeing values like 0.01 or 0.001 BTC
5316  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: when your out of btc on: December 16, 2015, 10:28:24 AM
Yeah make sure you divide your coins in 3 wallets. 1 for savings/trading, 1 for buying and 1 for gambling.

Make sure to never touch any wallet for the goal you created it for.
Yeah this is some good advice, I've been doing it like this for about 2 years now, and I never touch my savings wallet. Partially because, I have it set up in a way that makes it difficult for me to just take some BTC out.
I think that if I didn't do it like this, I would be spending more on gambling than I do now.
5317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is the global currency of Earth on: December 16, 2015, 10:24:18 AM
Just because its more expensive than USD, doesn't mean its better.

BTC is barely used anywhere at all. Which makes it alot less 'valuable' in my eyes.

I agree that in the global sense, Bitcoin is indeed barely used anywhere. But I'm still able to buy almost anything with Bitcoin, either by paying the merchant directly in Bitcoins or through various gift cards that can be purchased with Bitcoin.

Heck, there are even a number of bars in my home city where I can pay with Bitcoin. Given that Bitcoin is still extremely new, I'd say it's doing pretty good in terms of adoption by merchants.
5318  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin worth to you or not... on: December 16, 2015, 10:18:19 AM
Both fiat and bitcoin oscillate in value, the main difference is that fiat has a much larger volume so the oscillations are not as
noticeable as it is with bitcoin and other crypto currencies.

For me bitcoin is far more valuable than any fiat, and the main reason for that is that it has a limited supply and is independent of all countries
and man made laws, whereas fiat isn't and they print it more and more, even as we speak now..

cheers
I think you've just pointed out one of the major benefits of Bitcoin over other fiat currencies, that not a single nation or entity has exclusive control over the amount of Bitcoins in circulation.
Just for this reason alone, Bitcoin is worth more to me than fiat will ever be. And for me personally, high volatility doesn't cause me to spend less Bitcoins than I would otherwise.
5319  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting on sport = gambling? on: December 16, 2015, 10:08:38 AM
Yes sports betting is also considered gambling, though I think it is entirely possible to make a profit doing so.
I admit not knowing enough about the math behind it all, but it does seem like something that could be profitable in the long term if you're knowledgeable enough.

Betting on sport = gambling?
Please write your mind.

ofcourse it is definitely a gambling.
It doesnt include luck. but you are betting money.
and betting money win/lose is gambling.
though the difference in others like dice etc.
is in sports betting you need to learn or be educated and in dice.
you need luck + skill.

How do you need skill for playing dice?
5320  Economy / Economics / Re: When do you buy Bitcoin ? on: December 15, 2015, 06:00:16 PM
I've made it into a habit to buy Bitcoin at the beginning of every month, part of it I invest into cloud mining, I save a bit in an armory cold storage wallet and I gamble a bit with what's left over.
This is now the second year in total that I've been doing this. Smiley

Do you do this regardless of the price of Bitcoin? As in, will you still buy if the price is high.
Yeah I do this no matter what the price is, I know it might not be profitable or anything, but I think it's a nice habit and I've got some nice savings + extra income because of it.
Mind, I've been doing this since early 2013 back when prices were still at 100 dollar per coin, I'm not rich (yet) though..
