I thought this recent thread had WoodCollector vibes also, but I guess we could say that anytime a woodworker comes around here now after the PTSD that WoodCollector gave us.

I agree with you that his pieces were quite nice and other than his hand carving claims I don't think he was actively out to scam people, although it does seem that was the end result in several cases.  I think he could have had a bright future here had he stuck around.  Funny that his "friend" popped up with a new spin on this old tale.  One of the interesting stories we've gotten to experience over the years.
5302  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Game dev required on: August 07, 2022, 01:52:43 AM
I think you'll probably have to put up an amount you'd be willing to pay someone.  You also might have better luck posting in the services section that you're looking to hire a developer to build you a game.  You may find that this sort of thing can be pretty expensive if you're looking for a custom solution.  However, YouTube is full of videos showing you how you can build your own NFT games fairly easily from templates.  If you aren't willing to pay someone a good amount, that might be another option for you.  You can find lots of videos with a quick search.

5303  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Adoption of 5G Network in Nigeria on: August 07, 2022, 01:49:45 AM
Seems like a good idea.  I mean, why not?  The only downside I might see from a plan like this is that maybe someday in the not too far off future internet is available for free to everyone around the world via satellites.  Tesla will have a global internet satellite network and big tech surely wants everyone to have access to free internet.  I guess it's probably only a matter of time before cell phones are capable of getting a satellite internet signal and then it's likely to me that internet will be like using GPS, as in you don't pay for it.

I was a bit disappointed to hear that Stevewilldoit's YouTube channel was permanently banned.  I loved watching his content and seeing him wearing Stake merchandise and giving shoutouts to Stake.  The Nelk Podcast still seems to be repping it though.  Pretty amazing to see them interviewing Elon Musk for 3 hours.  I wonder if we'll see Stevewilldoit repping for Stake elsewhere now or what will happen there.  Seems a shame that YouTube was able to put an end to that ride.  Was fun to watch.
5305  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: August 07, 2022, 01:40:53 AM
An interesting article about how no other teams want to help the Brooklyn Nets get a deal done for Durant.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/nba-rumors-rival-teams-are-blocking-a-kevin-durant-trade/ar-AA10nxcZ?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=e987a0c3796540f3e04dcd0db624c9ee

I don't blame them I guess.  Owners seem to be pushing back against players trying to call the shots and other franchises have to love the way the KD/Kyrie experiment blew up in the Nets' face.  Still, I'd like to see Durant in Phoenix and Kyrie in Los Angeles if for nothing else than I think that is the most entertaining outcome of this offseason.  I do think Durant will get traded at some point, but it may take a Black Swan Event during the season.
5306  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul v Hasim Rahman Jr / Amanda Serrano V Brenda Carabaja co-main event Aug on: August 06, 2022, 08:28:08 AM
Jake Paul is calling out Andrew Tate now after his last two opponents haven’t been able to find their way into the ring. I think Andrew Tate is one of the few people that is hated more than Jake Paul is. I’d love to see this fight and I’m not sure how well Andrew Tate can box, but given his ego I think there’s a decent shot of a fight like this happening and drawing an audience. The only thing is that I’m not sure Andrew Tate needs the money.
5307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Whales Store Their BTC on: August 05, 2022, 07:41:35 PM
True whales store their BTC at the bottom of the ocean.  Typically as a result of a boating accident.  At least that's what I hear.  Makes sense given they spend a great deal of their life under the sea.  I wouldn't know personally because I dropped my hardware wallet overboard while enjoying a sunset cruise.  I wouldn't doubt it though.  With such a vast area of our planet covered in water, it seems logical that a good chunk of the world's Bitcoin be stored there.  My only question is, how long before someone starts a company combing seabeds for hardware wallets?
5308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have started teaching Bitcoin to my Neighbors on: August 05, 2022, 07:32:19 PM
A tip is to get them to stop thinking of Bitcoin as a short-term investment or a quick way to get rich.

If you have any suggestions on how that's possible, feel free to share.  All of my friends that jumped on the gravy train for the 2021 run are already out of crypto now.  They all bought shitcoins trying to get rich, and now think crypto is a scam.  Some of the survivors from the 2017 bubble that I know have started coming around to a Bitcoin only theme.  I have found that no matter what I say though, no new entrants want to buy Bitcoin.  They struggle to find a use case for themselves and don't want to just buy and hope to sell for more later, because the greater fool theory isn't value...  I wish Bitcoin had the "killer app" instead of a promise the price will rise while telling you not to spend it.
5309  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 6.2c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: August 05, 2022, 07:29:15 PM
Check carefully if you have setup the pools properly as there must a difference with your AMD rig.
Otherwise let show us what your command line is or config.txt/epools.txt

I'm only using 1 card per rig, and only mining the 1 pool with each rig. This rigs are gaming PC's that I mine with when they are not in use. So for the AMD rigs, I didn't touch the epools.txt or config.txt files. There was no need. Just enter pool 1 and 2, along with the wallet, in the bat file and the AMD machines were off and running, and have been for a couple years now.

When I tried the same miner, with the same bat file configuration, on the 1660, the miner spits out this error.

This is less helpful information than you think.  You are getting an error saying that your pools aren't listed properly in the config file.  In order to help, we'll need to see what you're trying to do.  It is quite possible that a typo could be what's holding you back.  Without being able to see and confirm, I don't think anyone can give you helpful information besides telling you to update your drivers and your OS, then try restarting and see if that works...  So if you want actual help, you need to provide the necessary information.  In this case, that's the command line that's giving you an error.
5310  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How could this be true, do you think is possible for Elon Musk to walk away? on: August 05, 2022, 07:24:22 PM
I don't know how serious Elon ever was about buying Twitter.  I think it's possible, but that's a huge chunk of his net worth to sink into something that he could probably recreate himself for a fraction of the cost.

What I do know is that Elon managed to get the "public" to vote on him dumping his Tesla shares at the top on his supporters and cashing out a massive amount of money while having people talk about his Twitter objectives.  I'm not sure there could have been a better misdirection technique.  He cheated on his wife, got a coworker pregnant, dumped the top on Tesla shareholders, dumped his company's BTC after saying he wouldn't, and we're all talking about Twitter.  This is why Elon is a genius.

Not good: Coinbase hit with 2 fresh lawsuits amid SEC probe

Quote
In both cases, plaintiffs allege Coinbase made fraudulent and misleading statements about the company's business, operations and compliance efforts throughout the class period.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/coinbase-hit-with-2-fresh-lawsuits-amid-sec-probe

With Blackrock making a large investment you can bet that they got themselves a great deal and that they'll use their contacts to protect that deal.  This is why you saw Coinbase stock pop on the news.  The old financial guard is taking sides and choosing crypto.  I wouldn't bet against them...  It seems like we're due for a correction in the short term, but this is definitely good news for those who want to see more institutional investing and the number go up over the longer term.  I'm sure many others will follow Blackrock into crypto.
5312  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: August 05, 2022, 07:16:46 PM
When he went to the Lakers with their run on the bubble, Howard wasn't a problem in and out of the court for the Lakers. Sure he still have that antics, nevertheless he has proven himself to be effective playing the center with Anthony Davis.

Same when he moved to Sixers, no issues whatsoever with him and Joel Embiid. So not sure what you mean by attitude because it seems that he has matured already and knows where to have that "good attitude" inserted. And he didn't destroy the good chemistry in Sixers, it's that he was not a perfect fit, that's the way I look at it and that's why they have given him up and Lakers pick him up again to play last season. But right now, no teams are interested on his service.

The preseason is in full swing, and I think it's too early to say that no team is interested in Howard. I won't comment on his negative impact on team chemistry, but it seems to me he could still be useful on the court as a bench player. In addition, signing Howard wouldn't be a costly deal for the management of any team as he would most likely agree to even the minimum salary.

Yeah Howard will get onto a team he can still provide minutes.  These guys have all made theor money most at the end of theor career take the vet minimum so they can jump on a ta that has a chance to play deep into the playoffs.  Just hope the Knicks steer clear.

I think the last rumor I heard was Howard was wanted by the Nets and I think he'll be included in the trade package with Westbrook to get Kyrie Irving playing beside LBJ. If that will be the case, Howard's presence will be much needed in the Nets because they have almost no power in the center, Howard also proved that he is still valuable if he's given enough minutes every play.

Frankly, Vogel almost forgot about Howard's greatness when they won the last championship because after that year, we can only see Howard playing for a max 10 mins.

I too hope that we see Howard playing a role on a contender again.  I doubt he's going to be back to the Lakers though.  I don't see the Nets signing him just to trade him either.  The recent reports seem to suggest that the Lakers are going to trade Westbrook for Jordan Clarkson & Pat Beverly, with Donovan Mitchell going to the Knicks.  I think Jordan Clarkson is a good player but I'm not sure if he's a starter on the Lakers.  Maybe...  Pat Beverly seems like he's about done in the league too, but this shows how desperate the Lakers are to get out from under Westbrook's contract.

BlackRock is partnering with Coinbase to increase the institutional adoption of bitcoin.

It is not often that you live through the birth and scaling of a new multi-trillion dollar asset class.

Apompliano

That is a pretty big deal. I think the stage is being set for the next bull run. The cycle is like clockwork. I think one more retest one the coming weeks/months and then we’ll see the next leg up. I think by now people should have flipped the switch from sellers to buyers with a target to hold of 2-3 years. Historically, it would’ve been wise to follow that pattern.
5314  Other / Politics & Society / Re: World getting weird each day now pelozi china on: August 04, 2022, 02:37:51 AM
The crazy thing is that the American taxpayer just spent $90,000,000 so that Nancy Pelosi could take a vacation to check on potential insider trading investments at the risk of starting a war with China.  People just act like this is normal.  When it costs more than 400x your annual salary to take a vacation and you do it on the company dime, most people would call that taking advantage.  The outrageous government spending has gotten so insane, I can't believe it's even happening.  Just print more...
5315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Saylor steps down as Microstrategy CEO on: August 04, 2022, 02:31:54 AM
What are your thoughts on this move?

I think investors have probably brought up some concerns about their Bitcoin position and strategy given the recent losses in this bear market.  This move probably assures them that there is a man at the helm that is focusing on the core business and not just tweeting about Bitcoin and giving interviews every day.  It also frees up Saylor to spend more of his time tweeting about Bitcoin and giving interviews every day.  Smiley  It might be a bit of an embarrassment for Saylor, but he's managed to keep MSTR from selling their BTC so he's got to still be happy.
5316  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for August on: August 04, 2022, 02:24:31 AM
I think there's still a strong chance that we see a retest of a the lows forming a double bottom before heading back up again.  I would point to the mtgox distribution of coins as the catalyst for that event and I think it will be behind us relatively quickly, as in a few months.  I think 2023 will be a great year to accumulate Bitcoin and we'll see the 4-year cycle play out once again.  It may not be as clear cut as 2013 and 2017, but it will certainly rhyme like it did in 2021.
5317  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: August 04, 2022, 02:20:39 AM
Big names, no home. Yet.
10 of the top remaining NBA unrestricted free agents, including Carmelo Anthony and DeMarcus Cousins
1. Montrezl Harrell
2. Carmelo Anthony
3. Eric Bledsoe
4. DeMarcus Cousins
5. Avery Bradley
6. LaMarcus Aldridge
7. Dennis Schroder
8. Isaiah Thomas
9. Lou Williams
10. Dwight Howard

Which of these players do you think will find a new home before the season starts?
My picks are Demarcus Cousins and Dennis Schroder.
Cousins made a big effort during the Nuggets' run and produced good numbers and I think that's the first team that should sign him.
Schroder is young. Can be rebuilt and might make a career leading the bench team.

I don't know if this will happen or not, but here's a couple of the guys on that list I'd like to see find a team for next season.

2. Carmelo Anthony - Carmelo has been recently linked to the Golden State Warriors as having potential talks for him to join them next season.  I'd like to see this happen because I think it's a good chance for Carmelo to get a ring.

9. Lou Williams - Last I heard it was looking like Lou was going to sign with the Lakers.

10. Dwight Howard - My understanding is that Dwight Howard signing with the Brooklyn Nets is a done deal, but who knows...  He was trying out for the WWE in the event that he can't get himself a contract next season with somebody.
5318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin *is* an inflation hedge in first place. Satoshi expressly made it so. on: August 02, 2022, 11:48:52 PM
Really, any scarce asset is an inflation hedge if its value is not tied to the value of a fiat currency.

By not pegging the value of a Bitcoin to a fiat currency like other earlier attempts at cryptocurrencies and by limiting the number to a finite amount, Bitcoin was explicitly created as an inflation hedge.

Indeed.  Having a dwindling block reward instead of an infinite one screams inflation hedge.  One of the first things I looked into when discovering Bitcoin was the total supply (so that I could calculate market cap) and discovering that it was capped at 21M was the first successful "sniff test" that Bitcoin passed.  If it wasn't for that 21M cap, I would have probably never looked into Bitcoin more than that first day.  For me, being non-inflationary over the long term was the #1 selling point of Bitcoin upon first learning about it.
5319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are Early Adopters rich? on: August 02, 2022, 07:33:54 PM
I just wonder: are Early Adopters rich?
We know AA, author of "Mastering Bitcoin" was once attacked because he did not made any fortune having BTC from early years, then people donated some BTC and he collected around 100BTC.
Hal F's wife sued "I am Satoshi guy" and they were talking about $ 3-digit mln, so they are not kind of people who wait every month for their wage.
What about others? Bitcoin Core developers? Forum admins or well-known old users? Are they crazy rich living in their own castles or did they lost their coins, sold for $10 because of mortgage loan or student's debt and today they must work 7-15 every day?

I don't think that Hal Finney's Bitcoin stash is the norm for early adopters.  He was THE man.  There can only be one...

That being said, I discovered Bitcoin in the summer of 2011 and have been pretty active since then in everything crypto I could learn about.  I am not living in a castle, but I also am not having to work 7-15 every day to pay debt.  In fact, I'm still living in the same house that I owned before discovering Bitcoin and driving the same car since back then (although I am on the Cybertruck waiting list).  For me, Bitcoin was always about freedom and security, not fancy clothes and foreign cars.  I do wish that I had stashed away 1,000 BTC when I was considering it in 2012 though.  Maybe then I'd be flying private jets to my castles, but more likely I'd be the same cheap guy who still doesn't pay extra to put cheese on my takeout sandwiches when I have cheese slices at home.  Smiley
5320  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to make new all-time-highs within 24 months: Coinshares CSO on: August 02, 2022, 07:27:33 PM
We are in July now, this means that bitcoin can hit all-time-time before July 2024. Is that possible?

No, it absolutely is not possible. Bitcoin won't be able to stay about $20k for more than 30 days before July 2024, and probably ever again. So no, it's not going to an ATH by then. You can take that all the way to the bank.

LOL, the broken clock has left the territory of being right.  It's really not brain surgery...  Bitcoin is on a 4 year cycle.  Every 4 years you should listen to proudhon.  For example, in November of 2013 proudhon would have given good advice.  In November of 2017 listening to proudhon would have been a good idea.  In November of 2021 listening to proudhon would have been a good idea.  I'm sure in November of 2025 proudhon will be right on the nose again.  However, basically everything he's said outside of those short time periods is just trolling.  Do the opposite of what he says for the next 24 months and it will be extremely profitable for you.
