5381  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the Mt. Gox coins affect Bitcoin’s price in August? on: July 24, 2022, 06:38:44 PM
They are not releasing 400K worth of BTC. When they got hacked they got somewhere like 850K stolen however after they shutdown they somehow recovered 200k or so. It was from some other hack but they somehow got 200K to give to the victims. The rest was never recovered.

They sold in 2017 to cover for fiat lost and why they only have 135K left. So whatever US dollar amount they lost, it was already sent to them. Now the remaining BTC they need to equally divide it amount those holders.

I'm pretty sure that isn't right.  No dollars have ever been distributed that I'm aware of.  If there were, I would have received something.  I believe I only had a few cents in there but I did have a decent amount of BTC.

It's also worth noting that BCH is going to be distributed as well.  I assume most of that will be market dumped.  This is actually a positive in my opinion as much of that BCH money will flow into BTC.  I doubt it will be enough to counteract the amount of BTC sold, but it's something...
5382  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 24, 2022, 06:34:40 PM
who of you made use of this service back then? Wink
this site has somehow passed me by at that time... Tongue

There were many faucets back in the day but you only got very little (for that period) and needed to watch ads or wait a certain period of time.

You got 5 bitcoins from that faucet when it first started, and you didn't need to watch ads or wait. However 5 bitcoins was probably worth less than half a cent back then.

On June 23, 2010 Gavin added a CAPTCHA. He discusses it in this post.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=206.msg1711#msg1711

Yes, Gavin is a true legend for being the first person to really implement a legitimate automated Bitcoin service.  Even if the service was just to give away BTC, at the time it was groundbreaking.  I'm pretty sure I remember claiming from it one time even, although I may have been late to the party...  It was a long time ago.  I definitely remember visiting the site though.  A shame that Gavin was demonized after being duped by faktoshi and chased out of the community.  I still believe that Gavin was a smart guy and Bitcoin was better off with him then without him, but he believed in a p2p payment network and saw little value in hodling, as evidenced from his faucet creation.
5383  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] WasabiWallet.io Review Campaign | 0.002 BTC/Review on: July 24, 2022, 05:36:19 PM
Why is this campaign paying users to publicly attack community projects? Seems sort of counter to a good advertising campaign and needs to be addressed. I’d appreciate it if the campaign manager would address the situation and resolve it as paying users who attack others with lies seems like bad practice to me.

Edit: Who is funding this campaign?
5384  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 24, 2022, 03:22:15 AM
Wow James Harden did it. He declined the 47 million dollars option in his existed contract and made a new one for 33 million dollars. Only to give Philadelphia 76ers room to get better players. I've written it before but once it is almost official, I still can't believe it. This is so cool! I don't remember anyone who does that before 35 years old. And for the 2023 - 2024 season he has an option for 35 million. Especially after this development, I really wish 76ers can get some good players and have a solid team and get to at least conference finals this season. With Embid and Harden, they have a very good core. Just need some role players that they can depend on. It seems like they will be the team I will be rooting for this season? Yes, almost there.

I don’t think it was as big of a sacrifice as people are making it seem. If he picked up that player option he would’ve been facing a massive pay cut anyway and wouldn’t have been able to ensure a spot for himself in Philly. This way he has a home for another 2 years and can act like he was selfless. I don’t think he’ll see another big payday. He’s slowing down quite a bit.
5385  Economy / Securities / Re: distrubution 500 on: July 24, 2022, 03:12:57 AM
But you collect money from other people to invest in other ponzis, and then repay the money lost in seats.  It's like a ponzi for ponzis.

Who do I collect money from? Where do I invest it? What am I repaying?

I would love to be able to respond to people who have questions about this long running community Bitcoin project that I started more than a decade ago, but it’s difficult when people make things up and throw words like Ponzi around as that is clearly not the case.
5386  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the Mt. Gox coins affect Bitcoin’s price in August? on: July 23, 2022, 10:42:19 PM
There’s also the question of how many people will accept the early payouts as opposed to waiting to try and get more BTC. They’ve waited this long… Why not wait longer to get more BTC? Especially after the market’s recent lows. I myself will admit I have considered deferring the payment for longer to try and maximize the amount I recover.
5387  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: There is a new scam going around on Twitter, WHY THOUGH?!? on: July 23, 2022, 10:39:49 PM
Twitter is overridden with spam bots. It’s hilarious that they even claim a % of users as bots when it’s been the same number since twitter began. There was hope Elon would clean it up but I think after he had his team look at the data they found that the valuation is insane based on the real usage. I would be cautious doing any sort of Bitcoin activity there.
5388  Other / Meta / Re: Ignore account PM on: July 23, 2022, 09:37:13 PM
This forum does make it a little difficult to ignore people.  You have to not only ignore them, but also block them from your personal messages.  Even then, if they post on a thread that you're following you will still get an email notification (last time I checked).  It's pretty annoying.  In my opinion the forum should be doing a little more to keep people from having to interact with trolls.  I know my ignore list and personal message block list have grown massively since I started utilizing them and that helps a lot (I see 2 ignored users on this thread even) from keeping the nonsense out of your brain.  Would be great if you could outright block people here so that you never had to see they posted or even know they exist.
5389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin address to mine on: July 23, 2022, 09:27:26 PM
Hello everyone,

I’m currently mining on solo ck but using NiceHash Bitcoin address for payout. Will this address support it?
Or should I use my Coinbase address?

All other advice aside, you realize that by solo mining you're basically playing the lottery right?  There's no problem for small miners to mine to NiceHash, but I would agree if you're going for a block, you'll want that fresh reward on an address you are the sole holder of the keys as the untouched reward carries a premium to most.

The thing I'd like to stress to you though, is that you're playing the lottery by solo mining.  Nothing wrong with stacking sats slowly.  Depending on your hashrate, you may never see a penny from solo mining.
5390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Educating people on Bitcoin for free on: July 23, 2022, 09:23:35 PM
I think the best free education on Bitcoin comes from having to use fiat for international transfers.  At least that's what I used to think when Bitcoin was being billed as a p2p payment network.  I have had plenty of experience waiting on international transfers for both work and personal reasons.  It's always a nightmare where you cross your fingers and close your eyes for a week and hope to have a happy ending that cost you a small fortune.

Try ordering a product from Bitmain with a wire transfer at the same time as you pay with Bitcoin and you will never doubt Bitcoin's usefulness again.
5391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Investing in Casino tokens such as BFG, OWL or TFS on: July 23, 2022, 09:15:07 PM
I just have some trouble understanding the need for casino tokens.  It seems like adding an extra layer of risk to an already risky environment.  Maybe they're hoping that people will buy in and raise the token value so that winners get even more winnings?  The risk being that if the token value falls that they would win less.  I assume the casino's control most of it and would be able to easily manipulate the price, so this appears to be another method of control where the casinos can set how much it's users are winning or losing by controlling the token's price.  It could be a useful thing, but it seems a little too Luna like for my taste.
5392  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning] trez0r.io (phishing website)!!! on: July 23, 2022, 08:50:04 PM
Some big companies attempt to buy all types of these weird wrongly-spelled domain names, just so this type of bullshit won't happen. Too bad Trezor can't get a handle on that.  Roll Eyes

Edit - Malwarebytes is already blocking it from me. 👍

Yes, it's up to the company to buy every domain that could possibly be misconstrued by morons as legitimate.  That's the solution to people not using the right domain right?  With that line of thinking we should be suing every company that doesn't do this right?  It's always someone else's fault when you make a dumb mistake right?  People like you with no personal responsibility that are always looking to blame others for your own idiocy make me sick.  Really.  Try creating something yourself for once so you can see what it's like dealing with people like you.

Ah... I'm clearly an idiot and just read that wrong out of context! Tongue

I think anyone who has seen you in this space for any amount of time can come to this same conclusion.

Is this a loadable item?

No wonder you have such a horrible take on events that happen here.  This is a forum where reading is important to keep your foot out of your mouth.
5394  Economy / Securities / Re: distrubution 500 on: July 23, 2022, 08:42:31 PM
Hello nastyfans!

Today distribution 500 posted. Amazing.
Do they give out free btc?

You can see a list of distributions sent out to seat owners here: https://nastyfans.org/distribution.summary.csv

Distributions come from mined coins and donations.  I don't consider that free BTC.  NastyFans just distributes that mined and donated BTC to the seats.

No. Never. This is literally the longest running ponzi left in the btc space.  Roll Eyes

All distributed coins come from mined coins or donations.  Anyone who purchases a seat is purchasing that seat from another member.  No funds from seat transfers are paid out as distributions so it is very clearly not a Ponzi scheme and that is a provable fact easily verifiable on the blockchain.

Looking forward to seeing Paddy the Baddy back in the ring. Amazing how much weight he lost so fast after going absolutely crazy eating after his last fight. Also looking forward to seeing Suga Sean’s next fight. A lot of people are counting him out so it might be a make or break fight for him.
5396  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 22, 2022, 08:27:12 PM
Word on the street is that the Lakers just offered Jamal Crawford a 1-year contract. Crawford is one of the best sixth man to ever play in the NBA and a relentless scorer. I could see him coming off the bench for a few good moments when they need a bucket. He’s old, but many NBA players were surprised he didn’t have a contract last year, as he’s still one of the better players in the league.
5397  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 22, 2022, 06:20:30 AM
So far I'm hearing the Miami Heat is on the move targeting either KD or Mitchell. I hope the Heat acquires either one of them.

If the Heat would want their team better, they should sign Durant instead of Mitchell. Although Mitchell is a superstar but he does not have a championship DNA and has not proven anything yet as Jazz under his leadership has not reach the NBA finals yet.

The latest word is that Mitchell may be headed to the New York Knicks. Although I can’t imagine the Knicks landing a player like him.

The more time that passes, the more I think we might actually see KD in Brooklyn next year with Kyrie and Ben Simmons. I don’t think the Nets will trade just one without the other, so all eyes are on what the Lakers will do with Russell Westbrook.
5398  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Double spending is fraud on: July 22, 2022, 06:15:04 AM
I think the code somewhat accounts for this by incentivizing double spend attackers to use their efforts for good instead of evil. Andreas Antonopoulos made a pretty good speech about it once upon a time. I’ll link to the video below. One of the early thoughts about Bitcoin was that it could reduce the need for such financial regulation. I’m not sure more laws is something anyone needs.

5399  Economy / Goods / Re: ~ Buying a TESLA CYBERTRUCK with BITCOIN ~ on: July 21, 2022, 07:01:03 PM
Elon Musk now says Tesla could start Cybertruck deliveries in mid-2023
https://www.theverge.com/2022/7/20/23272045/tesla-cybertruck-delivery-middle-next-year-q2-earnings

Looking like Elon is planning to get these trucks out on the road next year.  Whether or not myself or others who didn't preorder on day 1 will be able to get them next year is another story, but it will be nice to see them hitting the streets.  I suspect there will be limited deliveries in the beginning and likely plenty of unforeseen problems, but there is hope that maybe the wait is coming to an end.  Now that the factory is nearing completion ("nearing" is debatable), it seems like the Cybertruck is going to become a reality.  I'll be anxiously awaiting any developments.
5400  Other / Meta / Re: Where do you post most? on: July 21, 2022, 06:47:10 PM
Historically my posts have been mostly in the Collectibles section.  Although as of late most of them are done in the Gambling section, because, well, let's face it.  I get paid more to post there.  Smiley

I should get back into offering more things for sale in Collectibles.  I got away from it because there were so many trolls there, but it does seem to be a more friendly environment as of late now that Lauda & TMAN are gone.  Perhaps I'll try to find more time for auctions as to not neglect my original love on this forum, the collector community.
