541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: **Breaking news** Satoshi Nakamotos identity revealed on: March 06, 2014, 06:43:32 PM
"Hiding in plain sight" is balony and we all know it.

Who's 'we'?  As I said earlier, it was just a white paper, a concept, an idea to begin with, something so trivial that spending 1000 bitcoins on a pizza seemed amazing when that happened (wow you can actually buy something like a pizza with it :O).
He would have no reason to hide at the beginning. Are you suggesting the real Satoshi had a time machine, could see just how Bitcoin was going to become huge, went back in time and decided to use an alias?

I don't know if this is really the guy, but the originator being an individual called Satoshi Nakamoto is just as plausable as a secret alias individual or collective imho.
542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: **Breaking news** Satoshi Nakamotos identity revealed on: March 06, 2014, 06:22:35 PM
It could easily be true.  Don't forget, when Bitcoin started it was nothing, just an idea of what money could be, it took time before it exploded into what it is today. So given its very humble beginnings and zero certainty, what reason would he have to use an alias?

Once the media and internet whipped it up into mythical status, well, by that point no-ones gonna believe there's actually a real person with that name! which would explain why no-one thought of this guy till now, because who's gonna believe he'd use his real name then, right?

But whether this is really the guy, or not the guy, this journalist should be ashamed of herself, she really didn't think this through. The bottom line is, there will be thiefs and kidnappers out there that will assume he still holds the keys to an insanely huge amount of wealth on a hard drive that he owns. recklessly revealing soo much personal info puts not only his life, but the life of any close friends and relatives at risk.
Because of this, I really hope that he IS the real Satoshi, and that he does still hold his bitcoins, because at least that'll give him some financial leverage to dissapear or at the very least relocate.

But if this guy isn't Satoshi and lives a humble life because thats all he can afford... then I would not want to be in his shoes right now when he gets the call that his mother/brother/sister has been kidnapped and will be killed unless he hands over all his Bitcoins.

Don't buy gold or bitcoin, buy scarce non-renewable resources instead.
Get yourself a barrel of oil and store it. You'll be a billionaire in 30 years.
Troll spotted.
Not really. If they don't find any new oil resources it will eventually run out and people would buy oil at very high prices.

Nope. The price of oil will go up and stabilise as demand will decline with time.
We only depend on oil on short term, not on long term.
Once you switch to other energy and technology you are not dependent on it any more.

No point on keeping oil-barrels as storing is very expensive : the volume is very big compared to the value.
Oil-barrel need maintenance, you need to protect them from heat, cold, water and damages.
Your oil-barrels can get robbed or damaged.
Almost no one is buying oil at the ratio of a single barrel. Transportation is too expensive to consider delivering a single or few barrels.

Even if the value of oil increase, you need to find a buyer, deliver it and you have to pay years of storage.

Even if we switched to 100% electric vehicles,   every single mechanically moving device (including the cogs in an electric motor) rely on... you guessed it.... oil.  Oil will ALWAYS be precious. Think about it, think about every single moving part in machinary in industry that builds... well... everything!
544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nakamoto, Satoshi, New Info, hopes it clears up some stuff. on: March 04, 2014, 12:41:56 AM
OP lost me at the 'I'm his mentor, but I need Bitcoin donations at this address' post ending. Oh and his forum member name for that matter. Troll-on.
545  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How many BTC's did you have stored at MtGox? on: February 25, 2014, 05:07:36 PM

546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Scan.co.uk now accepting Bitcoin. on: February 25, 2014, 01:31:44 AM
I was pleasently suprised to also see Aria.co.uk accepting Bitcoin now as well, as I've bought plenty of PC components from them in the past and never had an issue with them.
547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MUST WATCH: Account Holder Flies To Japan And Confronts MtGox CEO on: February 16, 2014, 12:59:34 AM
It was my impression that the guy on YT video was there for the lulz to say the least. Would you really invite a guy with a camera that would later show that your business treats the customers in an unfair way (those loud ones with camera get money first)?

No-one spends that kind of money flying half way around the world for 'lulz'. To answer your question, yes, I personally in that situation would have invited him in, I may have said to him that I was happy to talk to him off-camera, but I still would have let him in and had a chat at a table for a few minutes.

548  Other / MultiBit / Updating to new version of Multibit correct procedure on: February 14, 2014, 01:01:12 AM
So I just realised I haven't actually updated my Multibit client on my PC in a while, whats the correct way to do this, can I just over-write the existing installation with the new installer, or should I uninstall the old one first?

Also will installing new version kill my existing wallet in it and would have to be re-instated via backup keys?

Probably best I wait till this whole TX-ID thing is sorted before updating I guess...

550  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Flag Going to Space. YES Space the final frontier on: February 11, 2014, 05:37:41 PM
Also, correct me if I'm wrong but, weather balloons can only go to the 'edge of space' as its sometimes called. As far as I know, they are not capable of putting anything in orbit, so any flag attached to a weather balloon would reach the edge of space and then just fall back down to earth again. To put a bitcoin flag into orbit would require an actual rocket of sorts.

551  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many people have received random .00000001 transactions to their wallets? on: February 11, 2014, 05:25:40 PM
Just received one today as I was reading this, although I personally haven't seen many mystery small incoming transactions like this since I started using Bitcoin.
552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bloomberg runs blatant propaganda video on Quantum (FAKE) computers. on: February 11, 2014, 05:22:53 PM
If you want those reading your posts to not think you're some I'm immature ranting 12 year old I'd suggest you rethink your approach to language as well as putting words into others mouths and calling them retarded in the process.

I would perhaps suggest that you do some reading up on quantum mechanics and some of the amazing properties it has, not to mention how we already have many real world applications and uses of such properties in readily available products we take for granted.

I see you forgot to add the facts that prove quantum computing is anything but vaporware  Cheesy

1) Nothng is 100% conclusive at this time regarding D-Wave specifically, the jury is still out so to speak, but as I already stated in my first post if you read it properly my opinion is that their claim is 'very questionable'. I personally feel the closest we've come to it is the prototype lab work going on, not what D-Wave has done

2) The interview was NOT specifically just about D-Wave, but looking into the potential of quantum computing for the future.

3) He was clear in pointing out some of his points were as he put it 'speculation', if you don't know what that means look it up.

I swear, this world could do with people engaging their brains and learning to read and listen properly first before speaking and typing.

Did you see the slip up by Obama just now oh wow anyone can do it proves

you are just the biggest idiot in the world

Oh the irony. Thank you for crystallising my very last point Smiley

D-Wave claims of actually having built one already may be very questionable indeed, but there's no denying the awesome power they would give us when we do eventually harness the power of quantum mechanics in computing. I don't believe it's a question of 'if' , it really is a question of 'when'

And well done on quickly editing your spelling of quantum as 'quantam', I was going to pick you up on that Wink
556  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is doomed to fail, and there's nothing you can do about it. on: February 11, 2014, 05:28:24 AM
The USD is backed by the "full faith and credit" of the United States of America. That's why our currency is the most desirable and the rest of the world relies on it for trade.

Soo I guess you haven't been paying attention to whats actually happening in the world the past couple of years? and I'm not talking about Bitcoin.

What was once the most desirable is no more....
557  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [FUD] Russia, China & Apple ban Bitcoins. Gox closing. Is this the end? on: February 07, 2014, 04:49:00 PM
Compiling a list of every negative Bitcoin story, whilst ignoring every positive story, gotta love balanced threads Cheesy

In other news, Scan.co.uk in the UK now accepts Bitcoin so next time I upgrade my computer I can purchase from them, result!.
558  Economy / Speculation / Re: i put almost all my money and lost a lot on: February 07, 2014, 04:46:02 PM
do not do my error, go away until you can, this is a gigantic bubble, in few years people will laugh at "that bitcoin bubble of 2013-2014" and books will write on it. There is no future.

The error being, putting ALL your money in one basket, yes that was a huge error on your part.
559  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fork The Blockchain And Block The Seized FBI Coins. on: January 13, 2014, 09:58:21 PM
Doing as the OP suggests would totally undermine and be the death of Bitcoin. Everyone would wonder "could i be next?". But then maybe killing BTC was the OP's hidden agenda.

Exactly, its the dumbest idea I've ever heard on this forum actually promoting a blockchain fork, it leads down a very destructive path indeed.
560  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anti-Bitcoin propaganda in upcoming video game on: January 10, 2014, 04:44:02 AM
And where exactly is the anti-bitcoin propaganda?  Huh

This. Whats stopping any government from setting up their own crypto currency anyhow?. If the game turns out good I'd happily buy it, don't see any threat at all from this.
