I would like for us to try and come up with a "NXT Mission Statement".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission_statement
https://www.missionstatements.com/
http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/65230
http://www.norcblueprint.org/uploads/File/Mission_Statement_Guidelines.pdf
http://www.fastcompany.com/1400930/how-write-mission-statement-isnt-dumb

From the links above:

"A mission statement defines in a paragraph or so any entity's reason for existence. It embodies its philosophies, goals, ambitions and mores. Any entity that attempts to operate without a mission statement runs the risk of wandering through the world without having the ability to verify that it is on its intended course."

I suggest two rules to this exercise.

First, posts containing your personal vision of the NXT mission statement contain no elaboration, explanation or follow-on text.  The whole point of a mission statement is that it is short and self-contained, and is supposed to stand alone.

Second, say or post NOTHING about anybody else's NXT Mission Statement, only modify and resubmit your own based on what you see others write.

This is a brainstorming exercise.  We will probably end up with several variants of a mission statement.  This may help us identify and understand different "subcultures" in our community and who belongs to them.

Or this may just be an exercise in futility, I dunno.

Here's a first draft of "My NXT Mission Statement":

The mission of NXT is to become humanity's most widely used blockchain-based currency for the purchase of goods and services online.

Think there needs to be more?  This mission statement is a blockchain of sorts - add to (or fork) it!

I'm working on this with QBTC, after the "branding" fell through.
I already collected surveys from Nxt members for this, but more are welcome.
The survey can be found here. We will collate this into a unified and understandable (ie. not all over the place) mission and vision.

QBTC is a professional in this field and I am very happy that she wants to help out with this as far as her time allows her to do.

For those who want: the survey can be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412243.msg5487600#msg5487600
Answers can be posted in the marketing thread. I will then get them to QBTC and we will work on this. Smiley

opticalcarrier, no one is threatening BrianNowhere. BrianNowhere brings up some good points but throws FUD like " there's a lot of group-think over there" (here in this thread) and " the way the developers see it is that Nxt will only be the fuel used to trade in other currencies and therefore the value of Nxt can never go very high," BrianNowhere quoting CIYAM Open out of context possibly (or CIYAM Open being wrong about something)

BTW, CIYAM Open is not a core Nxt developer. There are many Nxt developers and many are working in secret to avoid having to deal with the subversion represented by the spread of FUD.

And more FUD from BrianNowhere, " I fail to see how generating one block (with 3 NXT) every 205 years will net me 1% annual interest." Nxt did not claim to offer 1% interest. Expecting a 1% return on 9 cents? Really?

This is a Nxt developer thread whose sole purpose is to shape the features of Nxt by interacting with the community. When this thread is derailed by FUD, productivity goes down.

BrianNowhere offered to help find programmers for Nxt, but then immediately continues to spread FUD. Then BrianNowhere is upset when his FUD is rebutted. And now we have a wall of FUD over at Reddit about Nxt. No thanks BrianNowhere.

Why call this FUD?
Word have power, and all "FUD" does is basically invalidate what he says, which is too harsh.
I see it as frustrated, but still valuable questioning. And not even all that frustrated, at that.
The post on reddit is quite mellow.
One of the brilliant things about forums is that you can read a post, think "what a piece of crap this is", fume, come back, and then look a bit more objectively and then take the time to rebut, without all the emotional intensifiers Smiley

"Spreading FUD" implies a hate campaign, which I don't see at all. I see someone who feels he is ignored on points he considers his key concerns. If someone feels those concerns need to be addressed, I feel it's better to applaud his commitment, rather than shove him out of the creative process. That's a part of an open discussion that might not be pleasant, but can lead to results.

543  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 20, 2014, 12:26:00 AM
Since many here are sick of my posts, I've posted an "article" on http://reddit.com/r/nxt that addresses some of my concers about the Nxt ecosystem, mainly regarding fees, entitled "Nxt is the Bitcoin of the Future: Both in Good and Bad Ways".

http://www.reddit.com/r/NXT/comments/20u7ts/nxt_is_bitcoin_of_the_future_in_both_good_and_bad/

Just letting you folks know in case anyone wants to exercise their fee speech or present a rebuttal.

Ive not noticed anyone say they were sick of your posts.  I read your writing and I 100% agree with it being ridiculous to try to adjust fees in client as NXT fluctuates in its value per fiat, which is why I've been saying we should determine how to untie fees from fiat.

I just want to add support for the untying idea, too.
Nxt should make sense in relation to itself. Trying to keep matching it to what happens with it in relation to outside entities will have us debating and jumping to keep up all the time.
If anything, it introduces extra variables that we *don't* control into the mix. Occam's Razor suggests we look to minimise the variables.

i like Katie already, good well-thought out piece.

Except the TF part. The VISA thing really must not be mentioned for now.
We will not be able to do it in the near future. That is so abundantly clear, it needs to be taken out in future press releases.

Nope, I have mostly completed the messenger and friend functions, they both piggyback onto the block-chain in a really lightweight manner.

So you have to pay 1 nxt to send a message or friend somebody?

Yep. But, one could bundle several messages into one AM. Wink

and the fees are planning on dropping to .01

right? i keep reading this.

Correct. Smiley

Nxt Facebook

That's what I'm working on  Smiley!

I keep thinking "Diaspora".
What makes your project different?
550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 18, 2014, 08:08:27 PM

BrianNowhere, please put together a proposal to help Nxt find Java coders and submit it to the appropriate committee.

Considering how very much like Ripple Nxt is, I think it's pertinent. I have tried to offer solutions to at least get the thought process going but the developers are dismissive. I get the feeling of being talked down to whenever I bring up concerns and get the sense the feedback is not desired unless it consists of mindless praise and enthusiasm. I'm getting the feeling that anyone who is not a developer is viewed as an annoyance, especially anyone who has invested for speculative reasons, which is probably about 85% of Nxt holders.

Developers seem to have issues with speculators, who I believe they need dearly and are dismissive of at their peril. That's their right.
For the rest of us we'll vote with our feet, our wallets and our energy.

You should sell all your nxt and move to ripple. Live happy ever after.

Why keep repeating the same thing over and over about ripple? Almost everyone here knows about ripple and have used it.

I don't agree. Brian has concerns and at least talks without shouting. That alone takes me in for him Smiley
He may leave if things don't go his way, but just dismissing people is just is... rude.
It also deprives you from other views.
551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 18, 2014, 07:27:32 PM

He's not leaving Smiley
He míght just be getting the price down so more people can buy.

Also: when someone sells, someone buys.
It's not as if the Nxt is running away  Cheesy

554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 18, 2014, 02:27:34 PM
Simple:

Free market will not allow big arbitrage possibilities, thus making Nxt market cap >= cumulated assets values.

tl;td moon.

edit: Believe me. I studied.  Kiss Grin

So can the price of Nxt skyrocket one day, or not? For those who think that is possible based on the above, is it of no concern that the fees for transacting and assets will be based on a fixed number rather than a percentage that can self adjust based on current value?

If Nxt ever matched the value of current BTC (which can't happen according to CIYAM OPEN and others here) and the transaction fee is the proposed .01 Nxt  then the cost to make a transaction in Nxt would be $6.20 USD It would cost $6.20 to PLACE a buy or sell order on the AE exchange. It would cost $620,000 to issue an asset at the proposed 1000 Nxt fee for issuance.

Even if Nxt only reached LTC heights we're looking at $0.23 or so for transaction fees, which basically makes the idea microtransactions a non-starter.

Supposedly the 1000 Nxt rate is temporary, which is the same thing they said about tollbooths in my state about 40 years ago.

Who has ever said the fees can't change to match the situation?

Because that is what this is predicated on.
555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 18, 2014, 09:05:49 AM
Things are going rather well, actually, regardless of the stressed feelings.  Smiley
Show me agreements on development plz

Actually, for the projects I am doing, I can't.
Because I haven't asked for consent beforehand.

I believe that the project I do are strong and will be beneficial and will get interest.

The consent I am after is actual use. If I am wrong on that the projects will not take off.
That doesn't mean I have just started the projects out of the blue.
The predicted consent is based on knowledge of the market, like "people will use an easy to install, easy to use payment module for open source platforms"

For the community projects: consent is on the WHAT, not on the HOW.
People frequently mix that up.
556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 18, 2014, 08:59:51 AM

good luck with that. there are no serious investors in Nxt. it won't happen, at least not anytime soon. not with the status quo.

If I wasn't under a non-disclosure agreement I would tell you the resources I had access to in a heartbeat. I am a serious investor, I have been since november. I will continue working on this project until I'm the last man standing, because I believe in real democracy.

Same here. Do people actually expect outside investors to want us to spread the complete plans in a public thread?
I have said more than a few times that I (and several others now) are in contact with a serious investor.
This person cannot allow us to share things in here until the deal is done. That is quite normal business practice.

Also, on the subject of developent:

- client that is easy and safe is on its way and will be included with normal Nxt releases.
- AE is being *rigorously* tested. This takes time. ETA was and is beginning of April. Why panic when it's not yet beginning of April. This has been common knowledge for a long time.
- Account Control features on their way
- Digital Good Store on its way
- Gen 1 payment modules on their way.

- Committees have been in place for *one week*: OH NO, they haven't had result yet? What a surprise!
Give us some time, people, we barely got started there.

There are loads of developments *behind the scenes*. Not because there is nothing to report, but because sometimes you need to work and not keep asking for opinions anymore.
I purposely don't ask opinions anymore sometimes because I don't need more input which will just force me to adjust plans again. There is a time for talk, and a time to get to work and actually get something done. Until the things are done, I won't inform people, because asking opinions on a half finished product never, ever works. You just get a thousand opinions based on a half finished product. I'd rather get opinions based on what my finished product works like and take it from there. That is much more productive.

If you want to panic and not take facts into account: feel free. Just don't pretend it's because nothing is happening. The last few weeks more than enough fact about things actually happening have been put in this thread, which is moving at a slower pace than before.

Things are going rather well, actually, regardless of the stressed feelings.  Smiley

So the price dropped. I am sure people asked this before. I want to ask in a neutral and friendly way: Was there any fact or rumour based reason for the price drop?

Thanks in advance.

Whales dumping, followed by panic sell, followed by general grumpiness all round.

No rumour or fact Smiley

You are a fucking stupid idiotic retarded moron and thief.

me emule Cheesy

welcome on my ignore list, congratz you are in company of emule there.

wow, quite a reaction there, must have really hit a nerve, and now you are calling him a thief, just like emule has, after admitting to dumping, after emule has

Well, I would be angry if someone accused me of being emule, although I wouldn't use that language.  Not sure why Pin is being attacked here, did I miss something?

not sure you get how pin was 'attacked', it was just a few musings and coincindences.  what he did certainly was attacking though.

Yeah, but what's the point?  Seems like a useless effort.  You don't know what will offend people on this forum so why try?

I have no idea what the "need" to even bring it up was.
I asked for proof, and none was provided.
There is a phrase for that: "spreading baseless rumors".

And that is just blegh in my book. And that's the last I will say about it.

I'm looking for someone who is skilled enough to prepare IPO of a Nxt related* project. The project will be IPOed on Nxt Asset Exchange. The shares will be traded on AE, dividends will be paid as described by BCNext in his example about Krusty Krabs.
PM me plz.

Not actual anymore

Got it

Some people don't react because they are involved in other IPO's and can't use more that 24 hours in a day Wink

Granted, you see a lot of negativity, but good things are being done, but just aren't all that visible for a variety of reasons right now Smiley
