What do you mean? there is still no swap going on. Can you be more specific? Are you suggesting last volume on Polo was inside trading?
>Are you suggesting last volume on Polo was inside trading?
Looks like it. There was no trades for weeks and now 0.5-1btc every day.
>What do you mean? there is still no swap going on.
And i'm asking ETA for swap

Honestly this crossed my mind too when I saw the recent action. There are other possibilities though. A lot of alts especially on Poloniex have risen due to a little spill over of the mountains of BTC going in and out of ETH. Also Shadowcoin was deanonymized so there's maybe some money moving out of it and into Silkcoin. Or as Karartma1 said it's people who want to get in now before all that's going on here is promoted outside of this thread. Because then we'll see real volume on Silkcoin.

The concept does sound interesting, but at the moment the nature of the crowd-funding is putting me off. Could you tell me if you would be willing to reveal more about yourself personally, perhaps by linking to a public profile in order to assuage the fears of potential investors and show that Lionel Keys is in fact your real name. To be frank, the project reminds me very much of the work of a prolific scam dev who was very active here in the past. I'd feel a lot more comfortable investing knowing this is your true identity and so that you are not him. Thanks.

I can assure you that I am no "prolific scam dev".
We will put up a detailed list of the core development team along with their pictures and short CVs online pretty soon  Wink

If you do not like the idea of crowdfunding (which i totally understand and accept) please make use of the advantage that this "development and IPO proceed simultaneously" scheme has: you always have the chance to wait until the product is finished, and if you like it buy directly into the genesis block.  See, you can totally avoid any risks because once the product is out and working, it cannot be a "scam" right?

I'm not against crowdfunding per se, but crowdfunding without escrow with an (for the moment at least) unknown dev who's possibly using a pseudonym gives me pretty serious pause for thought. So if you could put up those CVs and pics I'd personally be very grateful. If you could do it before the IPO reward drops that would be good too, as it doesn't seem fair that there should be greater rewards for the people reckless enough to invest in this at the very start when that information isn't publicly available.
543  Other / Off-topic / Re: Relaunched Completely on: February 14, 2016, 08:17:38 PM
And yes, using an escrow doesn't necessarily mean all is well. Dev can still run away (although at least they have restricted funds until dev delivers coin + wallet). And then they run away...

Well, use an IPO that lets you buy in when coin + wallet are actually there and you have the same situation.
Just like this one  Wink

My point is, i (see my arguments above) don't see a real benefit of using an escrow because there are shady poor devs and shady rich devs.
The only thing that protects you from losing on an investment is to refrain from coins with no future.
But this should be the No1 premise of investments anyways, escrowed or not: only invest in coins which you think DO have future. This way you should be good to go.

I think the concerns that poornamelessme has brought up are of the utmost importance. With access to the BTC before the IPO is over you are able not only to buy a portion of the IPO funds for free (as with an escrowed IPO), but can use the same funds to do this several times, for instance under the pretense of "hiring devs". You say that not everyone around here is a bad person, but the fact remains that about 98% of IPOs conducted here have been outright scams. In an ideal world the concerns raised would be sticked in big bold writing at the top of every IPO thread.

545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: New [ANN] [$XSEED] BitSeeds - Rainforest Foundation Charity - SHA256 PoW/PoS 10% on: February 13, 2016, 02:38:51 PM
Hi, I have some questions.

Who controls the 100m BitSeeds that were originally for the foundation? If they are with you now how did you come to control them (and not the original thread)? If you do control them would you consider burning some? A premine of 100m for a coin with a current supply of 6m seems frankly insane.

What is distribution like? You said in the op in September that a fully functioning block explorer with a rich list would be coming shortly. Is it available now?

Sorry if the information is elsewhere and i missed it. Thanks.

Hi Orson, I'm happy to answer questions. Most of what you're asking is elsewhere in the thread but I can't blame you for not wanting to read through pages of posts since I've done that before with other coins.

The custodial funds are still owned by the foundation and the project is still being run by Gabe Aaronovitch, who started the project and forged the relationship with the Rainforest Foundation.  The difference is that the original dev that was hired to do the tech work decided, for reasons I still don't understand, to attempt to destroy the project.

I was not a part of the project originally, but had offered to volunteer some of my time on the project before the dev went AWOL and tried to "burn the forest down" so to speak. Gabe and I ended up talking on the phone a bit as I tried to help out, and I ended up officially part of the project and now basically am the public face of it.  I posted this new thread a while back because we don't have access to the account used to create the first thread anymore - I think the account was handled by the original dev but I'd have to double check that with Gabe.

The private keys for all project funds were retained by Gabe and we've moved the funds to new wallets to secure them from any potential sabotage from the first dev, and to stake some smaller ones in rotation to keep the network working as smoothly as possible until we get mining back with our new codebase.

The size of the custodial account was decided upon before the project originally launched in April 2014 in discussions with the RF and it is only used to stake and generate (staked) funding for the project and the RF, so burning part of those funds is not too likely as it would lower the planned funding for the Rainforest Foundation's mission.

We will be having an Iquidus explorer which will include a rich list starting with the relaunch with the new codebase. We had planned this for September but unfortunately this was based on the work we were expecting from a replacement dev we hired who... let's just say he didn't produce the promised results, so we fired him.

Since the tale end of last year, we are now working with Luke Williams, the guy who created the Iquidus explorer we were (and still are) planning to use. He's a developer with 10 years of experience and is one of the core devs for Jumbucks.  We are waiting right now for him to finish up the prep work for the 2.0 relaunch which should be happening very soon.

You'll be able to check the distribution more completely then (I've been wanting to see a rich list myself for some time now) but in the mean time you can check the distribution tab on the XSEED market page on Bittrex to see everything being held on the exchange.

Let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for your interest.

It's a nice idea with the rainforest charity, but isn't the SHA256 mining itself bad for the environment?

Good question, but compared to what? To not mining, or to other POW algorithms?

If you compare SHA256 to other mining algos, it's one of the more efficient ones in widespread use, and has the most developed ASICs which means much lower power usage per hash than say Scrypt ASICs, and certainly lower than most or all GPU mining. Being the same algo as Bitcoin also means that hardware like the 21.co miners will be compatible and it will enjoy the largest base of future small, low-powered efficient mining hardware.

There's also the question of the power source for the mining device - if it's solar, for example, running the device adds no direct environmental cost.

Ultimately, a major part of the reason for the selection of SHA-256 is it's a requirement of our payment processor coin.co who will be giving merchants the ability to accept payments in BitSeeds while receiving a charitable tax deduction.

Hope that makes sense, and let me know if you have any other questions or feedback.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response worth. I'll be keeping an eye on the thread and will look out for that explorer. Best of luck to you!

Them splashes are looking hella sexy, nice job. Do you have a rough estimate for when the Silkcoin -> SILK swap will be taking place?
549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SILKCOIN][DARKSILK PREANN][TESTING STORMNODES/DarkSIlk MARKET/I2P] on: January 16, 2016, 12:33:27 PM
In the coming days, weeks before launch, I would love for all people who have a genuine interest in the project to start spreading the word.

Too many people keep things to themselves when they find something good, but with our project being what it is, we believe that everyone should know.

If you have Twitter, follow us https://twitter.com/SilkNetwork and start using the hashtags #SilkNetwork #DarkSilk #Silk #Weaver

You can also do the same on Facebook with hashtags. If your an avid Facebook user, maybe hit up some cryptographic groups and currency related groups to spread the word about the coming launch and scale of the project. We don't currently have a Facebook group for Silk Network but it will be done just prior to launch.

Remember the more people involved and using the wallets doesn't just mean that the coin might have a good price but also deepens the anonymity and strengthens the network.

If you have any questions or any ideas that you can bring to the table, then please do.

No unfortunately users don't seem to even know their own coin, even though they have invested in it and have been using for however long.

Silkcoin code (old Silkcoin):

static const int64_t MAX_MONEY = 2000000000 * COIN;

2 billion coins.

Sadly I think Greg did his math based on 200,000,000 coins which is incorrect, Greg has only joined in the last few days and doesn't have any previous dealings with Silkcoin, so he isn't to blame.

New Silk code:

static const int64_t MAX_MONEY = 2000000000 * COIN; // 2,000,000,000 Total SLK

^^^ Same as the old Silkcoin, 2 billion coins ^^^

The code is open-source for a reason. Look at main.h of the majority of altcoins and you will see the MAX_MONEY value.

OrsonJ, please understand the difference between MAX_MONEY and the total coins that are CURRENTLY in circulation. There are ~44 million Silkcoin in circulation and 2,000,000,000 total is the max amount that can EVER be produced.

Not being rude, not directed at you OrsonJ, but I have had to answer this question over and over and over again.

I find it a bit odd that people are aware that Bitcoin will only ever have a certain amount of coins ever, but when it comes to altcoins that understanding seems to fly out of the window.

It is a bit worrying that there are a huge amount of people investing in something they do not fully understand. In fact this is very worrying.

I offered a Skype call with everyone and a Google+ hangout but no one attended, it is quite obvious that people have questions and also need teaching and guidance.

Oh and yes, I have just woken up, wish I had never gone to sleep lol

Sorry I must have missed the earlier discussions about the supply. It would be helpful if this sort of thing was in the OP since not everyone has time to go looking through the code (but I understand this thread is just a stopgap).

So if i've calculated correctly it'll take more than 190 years for the Silkcoin supply to reach 2 Billion. And that's if none of the original supply was actually swapped. I'm a bit concerned about the amount of SILK that leaves the team in control of.  It's not that I don't trust you guys, but if 75% (33m) of the original Silkcoin's current supply (44m) is swapped during the first 3 months, you're still left holding over 1 Billion 960 Million SILK. There's a good chance that will make potential investors a little nervous. Is it something you've given any thought to? Apologies if this has already been covered too, it's a pretty fast moving project and thread and I haven't as much time to dedicate to this sort of thing as I'd like at the moment.

You of all people, Orson, should know that the 2 billion SLK will not be generated for 1984 years. Wink

My bad I misunderstood. I thought there was 2 Billion SLK being premined for the silkcoin swap.  Cheesy

So how many coins in your system? on the first page of this forum there is no information about the algorithm and the number of coins in the system.
Only bright pictures.

There will be a total of 90,000,000 DarkSilk and 2,000,000,000 Silk.

Here is the whitepaper: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8r2g16ls5ug7eop/Silk%20Network%20Whitepaper%20December%202015.pdf?dl=0

Why 2 billion silk when there's only currently 43 million silkcoin?

We'll no longer be able to swap Silk for DarkSilk?

I am still ironing out the whole system of Weaver and the interaction between Silkcoin and DarkSilk.

One thing that is 100% is that Silkcoin will be relaunched and existing holders will be able to swap 1:1 for the new Silkcoin.

I am thinking about an IPO for both DarkSilk and Weaver Tokens which can be be purchased/swapped for BTC and also Silkcoin.

I want to continue development, grow the DarkSilk Foundation and be able to fund servers, marketing and other arising costs.

Thanks. It'll be interesting to see how that affects the Silk market. The system sounds fascinating, I'm looking forward to learning more about it.

QT wallet looks awesome Smiley

Just downloaded it, looks  nice, yeah. What's next step?

ok.
Downloaded qt wallet. What now?

Now wait, till the launch date (3rd Sept) and if above full, PM to reserve thy coins....

Can anyone kindly post some nodes and can others verify them so that we can check if the P2P Network works, because it has be be verified so that we can have a successful launch with a strong network and active miners (obviously after 3rd Nov @ 00:00 IST)

PM send, impressive looking wallet. Will be mining at launch.

If you like the wallet you might also like DarkSilk which it was forked from.

Just messaging updates to do now along with a few minor tweaks.

Windows wallets will be built along with Mac wallets this week and people can then give DarkSilk a trial run.

Cravecoin seem to of been copying my GitHub commits and trying to resurrect itself Smiley

8bit have had/have issues and I tried to help them with a commit https://github.com/spencerlievens/8bit/commit/633a718e875a4ca199d7c0cffc73e20b520e3f90 but Bitcredits is now sorting it out.

Seems like when we launch their will not be any comparable competition apart from Dash and a couple of other coins Cheesy

I am really confident as I have taken my time with the source ensuring the code is bug free and continue daily to fix, update and implement changes prior to release.

Exciting times ahead Wink

Donations are welcome as Arteleis can currently no longer currently assist/donate whilst I am working on the project.

The lack of donations/funding hasn't deterred me, as this has been the case for around a month, and you guys can see the amount of work I have put in during that period alone.

I don't really care if some people think I am "begging", but I like everyone has to eat and this is my full-time love/profession. So I will die/starve doing this if that is to be the case Cheesy

Outstanding work! Is there a typo in the SILK address in your sig? Wallet didn't seem to like it.

I will double check it.
