541  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Raising BTC to get Mark Karpeles called a bitch liar face to face on: February 22, 2014, 12:32:25 PM
Well I thought it was funny... And definitely not pointless.  If enough people kept calling him a gay fish, he will eventually realize that he's a motherf'n gay fish...lol. Same principal applies here.

Coinmode, you need to pull that big stick out of your ass and get a sense of humour.

542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Scary future of BitCoins - the Death? on: February 21, 2014, 01:22:35 PM
you must be very confused... why in the world(coin) would you believe that the more coins available to be mined will mean a brighter future for said coin??? This makes no sense.

It's the printing/mining of new coins that lowers the value of existing currency supply, so with only 15% mined i think you will find it hard to even give your worldcoins away in a few years time.

good luck with that one... i for one certainly won't be holding any worldcoin crap.
543  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What if I buy a bitcoin from MTGOX? on: February 21, 2014, 11:47:48 AM
We have all thought about it.... But I doubt many people want to put any substantial amounts of money into a company that could literally declare bankruptcy tomorrow and not pay you a damn penny.
544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ANXBTC is launching the world's first Bitcoin retail store on: February 21, 2014, 11:41:57 AM
Retail store kinda suggested to me that you are sell products in exchange for bitcoin.

i think you should call yourselves an Over-The-Counter Exchange rather than a retail store!?
545  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Movie, coming March 2014: The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin on: February 21, 2014, 11:10:51 AM
Should have been: The Rise and Rise (then the mtgox induced crash) of bitcoin
546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Discuss: Do you think Gox is intentionally trying to damage BTC? on: February 21, 2014, 10:41:57 AM
No one has ever mentioned the fact that coinlab.com are basically trying to sue them for everything they have got...

If i was in marks position.... I would probably do the same, just try to milk the business dry one last time (probably running off with thousands of bitcoins bought at $100) then simply declare the business bankrupt.

So not only is he making sure he is comfortable for the rest of his life with shed loads of bitcoin bought on the cheap, he also gets to put two fingers up to coinlab.com and tell them that they get nothing.

Also, i noticed they have downsized there office (for security reasons apparently)... more like mark is shit scared of meeting some proper angry holders at his entrance, so he has moved back to the tower block that has security at the doors.
547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Bitcoin Nightmare. on: January 25, 2014, 04:09:05 AM
I'm using this anti key logging software. It maybe could have saved you.  Apparently a lot of key loggers are overlooked by virus scans.

http://www.qfxsoftware.com/

I've been using the free version so it only encrypts text in web browser (also works in multibit wallet which is good). I think the paid version encrypts all your key presses in any window.

Although, how effective it is I don't know...

549  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Bitsafe? By Butterfly Labs on: January 21, 2014, 12:01:29 PM
I don't understand why people here seem to be shrugging their shoulders at this idea...  I have imagined something exactly like this for a long time now. If it's cheap enough then this could be the link needed for mass adoption of bitcoin with everyday purchases, a true digital wallet.

... It's just a shame it had to be butterflylabs developing it.  Hopefully a few other big players will start developing similar products which would bring release date closer and keep the prices competitive.

Perhaps companies will considering give the devices out free if they can make a small amount of transaction fee's, but then i think would make it an online wallet rather than a hardware wallet.

How do you think it will work... Wifi connectivity? or perhaps a sim card using gprs/3g?

Are you Matthew, for the Elite comes to mind?

Ehh... Who?   lol

I personally wouldn't expect it anytime soon if at all.
now to derail the tread:
this remindet me to check up on http://www.bitcoincard.org. Is the mycelium bitcoincard officially dead?

No. I am sitting right in front of the desk with the latest prototypes. We are working furiously on delivering the hardware, we are just not taking preorders when we don't KNOW when we are going to deliver.

It's just a shame you didn't take this approach in the past... People would be more inclined to believe what you have to say now.

551  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vending Machines? on: January 18, 2014, 12:14:24 PM
This would be actually quite simple idea to retrofit.  Use a raspberry pi to emulate the coin mech.  also you could capture the price data for each product from the output to the machines original lcd.  integrate the whole thing with coinbase or bitpay api

this is an idea that coinbase or bitpay should consider.... modify a raspberry pi and add code to work on vending machines, provide installation instructions etc and then sell the new device to vending machine companies.

I could actually develop something in a few days just for a weekend project, ihave access to a few old style vending machines - using a PIC chip, gsm module and then use an online wallet service that will send a text once bitcoin payment is received at a certain address (i think blockchain.info provide this?)  I don't think i could configure it to have live exchange rate updates, but i certain could have it update via a text message hourly/daily.

im going to think about this a little more, if i make anything i'll post a video.

Free advice: Don't run Windows - the most insecure OS in the history of OS's

Isn't this just because it is the most popular.. Therefore most viruses will be targeting it?
553  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. announces forfeiture of $28 million of bitcoins belonging to Silk Road on: January 17, 2014, 04:38:56 PM
It has nothing to with a legal weed seller in Amsterdam, but that's Amsterdam, not the rest of the world. He allowed access for crimes to be committed between international borders. That's pretty fucking serious. Doesn't matter if someone bought weed from Silk Road in Amsterdam, someone else from another country could of sent it, where it was illegal.
Of course it matters. If someone from Iran can see homosexual pictures on a random website, which is illegal there, according to Iran that's also pretty fucking serious. Should the rest of the world care? No.

For a legal weed seller in Amsterdam, it should be completely irrelevant what the law from Iran or U.S. has to say about his activities.

Quote
Plus, the site allowed a how bunch of other incredibly illegal shit, are we really going to argue this?
How is that relevant to confiscating money from people who didn't have jack shit to do with such activities?

People are posing illegal shit on Facebook as well. And you can find tonds of illegal shit with Google. Are all Facebook and Google users now criminals whose money should be confiscated?

Exactly....  It's just like saying that the US has the right to confiscate all funds in every HSBC bank account worldwide simply because HSBC have been laundering money for the Mexican drug cartels.
554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. announces forfeiture of $28 million of bitcoins belonging to Silk Road on: January 17, 2014, 03:46:50 PM
Someone please explain how the US think they can seize and keep funds of people all over the world.

I mean some people just used silk road to sell legal products and never committed ANY crimes (few, but there was some).  People who have never visited and have NO affiliation to the USA.

Imagine you lived in Amsterdam for example...  And you had a cafe, you decided to sell your weed  only to people within the same country.  All can be done completely legally.

Yet the US government feel they have the right to steal this money and auction it to the highest bidder.

Ask yourself who the real criminals are!

I just hope someone in this position takes the FBI to court and wins damages.

556  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Standalone ATM owned by private companies should trade bitcoin on: January 12, 2014, 01:43:12 PM
that's true... there are differences obviously because the bitcoin atm was been designed specifically for bitcoin, not only that, most normal atm's are over 5-10 years old....

Although, i still  think without modification to the hardware it would definitely be possible to write the software to buy and sell bitcoins.  I'm not saying this would be a small undertaking but the possibility is there.

Here in the UK there is so many bitcoin businesses operating with no issues I don't see why any regulations would stand in the way....  Especially if they were to just act as a middle man between the customer and a large exchange, charging a % fee on top.
557  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Standalone ATM owned by private companies should trade bitcoin on: January 12, 2014, 09:47:50 AM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmR0yvBTbTc

After watching this non bitcoin related video about someone who reprogrammed a standalone ATM to spew out money, it got me thinking...

These standalone ATM's are normally privately owned, making their money by charging an extra fee for your cash withdrawal.   There are single companies that own hundreds of these machines across the UK and probably across Europe, US etc.  Wouldn't it be possible for them to simply reprogram the firmware in the machine to buy and sell bitcoin for commission as well as dispensing cash?

The newer atm's especially, with high quality printers and camera built in for qr codes, internet connection, touchscreens, cash dispenser, they have all the technology required to both buy and sell bitcoin.

Basically with a firmware update that can be installed remotely there could be hundreds of bitcoin atm's across the world overnight.

For someone to buy/withdraw bitcoin it would be exactly the same risk for the company as would cash withdrawal regarding chargebacks and fraud etc (if that's even a problem when using an atm, i don't think it is).. They would just accept your bank card as payment, and instead of dispensing cash, simply dispense equivalent in bitcoin.  You could also send bitcoin to the machine and it would dispense cash.

I know there are new bitcoin atm machines already, but if this idea was possible it would rapidly increase the amount of bitcoin atm machines overnight.. and possibly a lot of money to be made for these atm machine companies...
558  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is Bitcoin part of the coming mark of the beast? on: January 12, 2014, 08:56:39 AM
Fiat currency is the true mark of the beast... (Of course that's only if you believe in the fictional book we call the bible.)

Zeitgeist the movie sums it up well. I think they also discuss the origin of 666; it predates the bible.
