541  Other / Beginners & Help / Compiling rpcminer for windows? on: April 05, 2013, 01:38:22 AM
I was wondering if anyone has done this, I spent the time today to TRY to get it to work installing cmake, boost, openssl, cuda, curl .. I was finally able to get cmake to make a config file and tried to build in vs 2008 with out any luck.

Anyone else done this?

I pulled the source from https://github.com/Ang3lus/rpcminer-mod

Before you say why not use a precompiled one its because someone posted in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=163750.0 that he was able to adjust some of the code to better work with nvidia kepler cards and get a much better hash rate out.

Is their some sort of guide for when you need to adjust and what to adjust?  I could play with settings all day long but the question is if I push the clock rate do I need to adjust the volts?

Get FPGA miner or an ASIC. Graphic cards aren't really great for mining Bitcoins anymore.

You cant get anything soon, everything is sold out and well lots of people dont trust these guys, I looked at butter fly labs and would love to get their small vesion for $249, not sure I want to wait 6 months for it or even put my money down cause all sales are final.. lots of threads about people having issues with these guys.. Sad
544  Other / Beginners & Help / Proper Overclocking for Mining..? on: April 04, 2013, 05:59:47 PM
I was wondering after doing a bit of research the proper way to deal with over clocking for mining specifically.

I just bought a card that has voltage unlocked and I have been reading forms that changing the following helps increase hash rates

* Core Clock
* Memory
* Voltage

Some settings I have seen and well tested on a older card where

Core = 980
Memory = 300
Voltage = default

So what settings do I adjust first to see about increasing hash rates, keeping the system stable and the heat down..

For example do I push core to 1000 keep everything set, or when I push core do I need to adjust memory up or down and or voltage.

Can some kind sole explain how this is best done in steps..

I just picked up a http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009B6Y01Y/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B009B6Y01Y&linkCode=as2&tag=pocketbargins-20

Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC with Boost 3GB DDR5 DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D/HDMI/DP PCI-Express Graphics Card 11197-03-40G

In the reviews someone mentioned they where able to push the card to about 700 Hashes.. I should get it tomorrow and report back as to what I can push it to

I have a 7950 and just overclocked it to almost 600MH/s.  When the new PC comes in I will likely add a 2nd.  Not counting the PC as I was wanting to get it anyway for virtual machines and remote access (Precision T7600).  At that point I'm not investing in any more GPU based solutions because I have an ASIC on order.  Even if the ASIC falls through for me personally GPU doesn't have much of a future left.

Which ASIC did you get? I thought about it, but with the current whishy washy of them actually shipping one I'm a bit hesitant to get one, or if I do now Ill have to wait in a long line of others Sad

Seeing how everyone or us newbies are scrambling to put our boots on and mine I wanted to know what people where thinking of putting together as their first or 2nd mining rig.

I for one have a extra radeon 5870, and old mb that supports it, I recently installed a vanilla windows 7 sp1 and got the card up to about 460~ average.  Ill prob buy another 5870 for the other slot and see if I can at least with one small cheap rig (most parts already had besides buying another video card) push it to 1G~

From their I'm thinking and its hard to get these cards is the 7950's which are for crazy prices on ebay, but maybe investing in 2 of those which I think stock pull in around 700~

So ideally my first 2 gigs would be 2 5870's, and 2 7950's pulling in potentially 2400~ ..

thoughts on other video cards to look at..?

Everything I read *claims* that 2.1 and 11.xx drivers 11.12 recommended is much better.  They claim from what I have gathered that its a 10% decrease when going to up versions of the sdk.. not sure about the c drivers tho..

So I have a few Radeon cards laying around and I thought I would see what they can push as far as mining.  Unfortunately my main gaming rig is all Nvidia powered and I didn't realize the huge difference between the two companies as far as sha256 hashing.

Anyhow with that said I tried out xubuntu from a guide I found on the net, its a bit more complex to set up but was able to get it running but for some reason I was only seeing around 250, and well while the overclock tools or the various drivers I had to track down and try didnt seem to help.  I booted up the same box with a vanilla windows 7 with sp1, installed the proper recommended ati sdk 2.1 and c 11.12 drivers.  I also downloaded amd clocking tool and bumped up my core to 980 with memory at 300, no voltage change and boom I was mining at around 450 average for the same card.

Here is an included screenshot of the details.
