541  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Mining Game Similar to Minecraft For Real Money on: February 23, 2015, 07:39:05 AM
Who's giving away the reward bitcoins? If it's literally mining, then a game won't help at all at mining, since nowadays all mining is done with ASICs. It it's given by a third party, like a company, then what does this company win by giving away free bitcoins for people playing their game? It could work if it was ad-driven, but I don't think this would catch at all.

Also, why “gorgeous graphics”? The Minecraft graphics were made that way on purpose, because it looks cool to some. Is there any reason why gorgeous graphics are needed for this?

You aren't needed, and you're not here to lose. And by 'here' I mean "in bitcoin. You aren't in the WoT -- you aren't in bitcoin. We can't lose what we don't have. If there is anyone reading this thread who would like to be a part of bitcoin, you should start the process today. The log isn't going to read itself.

I didn't know being in WoT was necessary to be able to use Bitcoin. Does that mean all those bitcoins I've sent all these years are invalid?

If they are as stubborn as you say, then big red letters won't make their stubbornness go away.

544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: February 23, 2015, 02:45:03 AM
Big red letters make statements automatically more credible.

Sorry but small black letters didn't seem to be working.

I'm sick of the "herp derp cheap 1TB hard drive" canard.

The issue with 20MB blocks is bandwidth, not storage.

Sarcastic post was sarcastic.

If you can't make your point with small black letters, then there's something wrong with the statement, and not with the typography.

No need to throw insults at her, though.

Whoops. Almost thought this was about the Winklevii when I saw that topic title...

That would have been better, actually.
548  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can Bitcoin fail? on: February 22, 2015, 06:08:05 PM
I don't really understand your question. 21 million total is not a limit, coins are divisible.

No, you're wrong. 21 million IS A LIMIT. But divisibility means we can potentially trade 1/1010 of a bitcoin.

1/108, actually. But thanks, now I know how to do superscripts   Cool

No. 1/1010. The point is that we are adding decimal places (for a hypothetical reason).
549  Other / Meta / Re: Changing motherf&%* avatars on: February 22, 2015, 05:56:32 AM
Last time there were avatars, someone hacked the forum by uploading javascript to the avatar. This happened:

Also, there was a meter saying that your bitcoins were going to be transferred to "CosbyCoins" (I wasn't here when the forum got hacked, but I have read about it.)

There should be avatar uploads in the new forum software, going to be released around February.
That's some clever shit... Did they give him a Cookie for that?

He didn't get a cookie, but they let him off without any punishment because the Mods thought it was funny too and no permanent damage was done.

That's kind of stupid, isn't it?

You've just said that your own opinion doesn't matter, so shut up and stop wasting everyone's time.

Yes, it's a contradiction, such as saying “This sentence is false”.

552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CNN adds Bitcoin ticker on: February 22, 2015, 04:05:41 AM
I assume BTC is taken by some other financial instrument?

Actually, no. But using the current ISO standard, anything BT_ is related to Bhutan.
553  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Video: Beautiful Twins That Love Bitcoin! on: February 22, 2015, 04:02:39 AM
women don't care what you say unless other women already want you, because women only value the opinions of women.

That's actually very wise of them.
554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CNN adds Bitcoin ticker on: February 21, 2015, 06:24:23 PM

Interesting article but still don't understand why they couldn't just call it BTC like everyone else.

GOLD shouldn't that be GLD and not XAU
SILVER shouldn't that be SLV and not XAG

What drugs are these people in the office in Zuirch smoking?

Cheesy

Why GLD and not ORO? Why SLV and not PLT? Not everyone speaks English, and these are international standards. That's why they use internationally recognized chemical symbols (Au and Ag), with the X prefix for “not a country currency”.

What I do wonder is, why is there EUR, if the European Union is not a country?
555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Video: Beautiful Twins That Love Bitcoin! on: February 21, 2015, 06:15:01 PM
Not saying there aren't beautiful women who love Bitcoin, because I'm sure there are Wink, but that's a commercial... they most likely got paid to do.

If I was paid to do a commercial, I would be interested to know about the product I will be promoting. So, it may get these twins interested in Bitcoin after the fact.
556  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: We dont have enough decimal places. on: February 21, 2015, 06:07:40 PM
doesn't bitcoin becoma like a fiat if we add any other digit to it? theoritically we increase the number of usable subunites by doing that. if its not an inflation what it is then?

It's different because, if I had 1000 units before the new decimal point, now I have 10000 units with Bitcoin. With fiat, I still have 1000 units.

its not quite diffrent. with new decimal you will add new bitcoins in the siytem. if you add 3 more decimals at once ditcoin could drop 1000 fold in one night. if bitcoin will become an international currency soma day its a big deal.

No, it's not the same. You are not adding any new bitcoins at all. You just redefine one bitcoin to be 1000000000 units instead of 100000000, but the total number of bitcoins remains at 21 million.
557  Economy / Economics / Re: Dirty coins on: February 21, 2015, 01:23:42 AM

But I still have control of that dirty output. How can I prove everyone that I won't spend it?

It sits there unspent.  That's the best you can do.
All your payments to others are untainted.

But the receiver doesn't know that. The most they can do is trust, but the whole point of Bitcoin is not needing to trust.
558  Economy / Economics / Re: Dirty coins on: February 21, 2015, 12:02:30 AM

Not entirely true, as that unspent output need never be touched.  I can move my other coins which I had in this address to another which is now clean, without touching the dirty dust that you sent me.

It's not necessarily dust. Also, I thought we were marking addresses and not individual outputs.

There's no way to "mark" an address on the block chain, other than by sending it coin, that is, creating an unspent output to that address.  The owner of the address however never has to touch that output.

In some sense the address is marked, but the owner hasn't spent the "dirty" money there and doesn't have to.  He can just leave it and never touch it if he/she so chooses, and still have normal access to the rest of his/her funds.

But I still have control of that dirty output. How can I prove everyone that I won't spend it?

It's actually calculating the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

Already done, it's 42.

You're right. What we are actually calculating is the question, not the answer.
