5421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: James Webb & Bitcoin/ Sending bitcoins to the first alien on: July 19, 2022, 07:11:29 PM
I would be very curious what an alien would have to say if you tried to pay him in Bitcoin.
Imagine trying to pay an entity who might not even understand what 'paying' means.  Maybe there are no transactions in their kind of world.  I think there are a TON of issues a human would have to get through before actually and properly communicating with an extraterrestrial.  We often have this false image of aliens being overly intelligent and understanding most things, notions et cetera that we do as well.  That is because we tend to believe we understand most parts of the Universe, but I believe we understand nothing about it yet.  Just look at that recently released picture of the space.  We are so small and negligible we probably have close to zero knowledge of the Universe.  And realistically, what are the actual chances someone who comes from millions of light years can properly communicate with us?

PrivacyG

I find it hard to believe that an advanced civilization could not have a way to transfer value.  Money is a pretty standard part of societal growth.  That being said, I would also like to agree and point out that aliens being able to travel here doesn't necessarily make them more advanced than we are.  It is also quite possible they come from a planet more conducive to space flight.  For example, a less dense planet with less gravity or elements on their planet that functions as a better fuel for their space crafts.  Even if they were less advanced than us though, communication is a pretty easy thing to learn to do.  I'm certain within a few months of alien interaction our species' would be able to communicate fairly well.
5422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Binance Flips Coinbase, Now Has Highest BTC for Exchanges !! on: July 19, 2022, 07:03:00 PM
This was going to happen eventually.  Binance is a bigger and better exchange, so it was only a matter of time before they surpassed Coinbase.  However, Coinbase diving head first into shitcoins like Terra/Luna definitely helped this happen soon than later.  CZ seems to have taken a more Bitcoin maximalist position as far as the holdings of his exchange.  This paid dividends for his company as the shitcoin market tanked.  As a result, Coinbase is shrinking their staff and making cuts to their programs while Binance is aggressively hiring and burning their own tokens.  Clearly you can see one is on a much better path than the other.
5423  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 19, 2022, 07:00:07 PM
The overall feeling in the market seems to have changed.  This feels like the first rally of the next cycle to me, even though we should be hitting bottom in the next month or two.  Maybe investors are getting better at front running the coming moves, or maybe the mtgox dump will bring us back to retest the lows.  Either way, it seems we are most certainly closer to the bottom than the top, and this is a strong rally off the lows.  I think we're seeing either the final bull trap of this cycle, or we're about to go on a multi-week run upwards.  Regardless of which it is, I feel like the light at the end of the tunnel is shining bright.
5424  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul v Hasim Rahman Jr / Amanda Serrano V Brenda Carabaja co-main event Aug on: July 19, 2022, 06:53:57 PM
Jake is literally the best person you could have for publicity. The Paul brothers are just absolute gold mines in that department. I haven't seen anyone else do it better. Plus, Jake knows how to push people's buttons. He has basically built his career off being the "problem child" as he calls himself.

I actually don't think he is as much of an idiot, as he's portrayed. I actually think the more I've seen of him, the more calculated his videos, messages, and basically everything is. I imagine at the start of his career, and bad publicity he was just a normal kid bending some rules, but he has simply embraced that sort of reputation, and has literally built a boxing career off of it. Plus, I actually think he's going to win in this next fight, and I was part of the gang that would just like to see him get beat, so he can stop embarrassing the sport. However, I'm not sure if he's an embarrassment any more, he has done more for boxing than a lot of professional boxers.

The odds are fairly close, not massive odds either way.

His latest stunt of pretending to be in the hospital with a broken back from carrying the promotion from this fight seemed a little juvenile.  He's fallen quite a bit from the "got your hat" promo that made him a legend heel.  This latest act is just plain dumb.  I feel like they're running out of ideas and probably so rich now that their effort is falling off.  Maybe he's just a little too close to his WWE brother, but this latest skit seemed like something straight out of the WWF in the 80s.  I hope he's less corny going forward.  His old antics were awesome.
5425  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 19, 2022, 01:06:03 AM
There is an interesting article on nba.com about James Harden. I was quite surprised that he is on the verge of making a new deal with his team that instead of getting 46 million dollars next season, he is helping the team and making a deal for two years that will get him 32 million dollars next season, and it includes a player option for the second season. He is really trying to show everyone that his mentality is different and he is focused on a better team and winning. I genuinely tried to remember any player who did this but I can't remember a big player doing such a thing. Good for Harden. There was a huge hype about him in the last season and he played not bad, at least better than how he did in Nets. I like his new attitude.

I like James Harden to stay with the Sixers. He is quite going along well with the team, especially with Joel Embiid. Their duo is even much more effective than the famous Embiid-Simmons duo which turned out to be the worst after several seasons.

Since you have mentioned also that he has the player option for the second year, then it's possible that if the Sixers turned out to be bad next season, James Harden will leave the team and find another one that will suit his needs.

Harden went to Philadelphia because of his personal ties with people in the city.  He wants to spend his time there.  That's why he took less money to be on the team.  He wants to bring a championship to Philly and be the man on the party scene there.  For that reason, I don't see him leaving for basketball related reasons.  I think his deal was a good one for everyone and I hope that it turns out better than his time in Brooklyn with the Nets experiment.

One old forum member also having Mt Gox skin that sticks to mind is OgNasty. Just tagging here so they might see it. Think the last update I recall from them was about the NFTs being issued to members pending claims. Apologies if I was mistaken.

This because of the looming repayment finally happening? I actually lost track, always seems to be "happening soon".

I actually don't get any sort of notification when I'm "tagged" but happened upon this thread luckily.  Smiley

I do have experience dealing with mtgox from a couple of different angles.  I had a personal interaction with Mark Karpelès prior to the closure that should have raised a red flag for me and also was involved with some escrow deals involving mtgox at the time of collapse.  I'm still working through the mess that was left behind, but hope to get it resolved this year.  I didn't take from the recent email that we'd be getting funds next month like everyone else seems to have, but I'm hopeful nevertheless.

I'm not on whatsapp or telegram, but I could be open for a chat.
5427  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 18, 2022, 04:20:48 PM
Westbrook is 33 years old already and near to past his prime. He is athletic I agree with that and yes he is one of the most athletic and most explosive guards in the NBA. The problem is that, he doesn't fit with the system.
I agree with this one. Westbrook does not have the same explosiveness that he have before. He is still very athletic compare to others but the explosiveness that he needs to drive into the basket is simply lacking now. He cannot run as fast or jump as high as before.

A common issue to some basketball players that relied only on their speed and strength. That is why more and more players really want to practice their shooting, big man or not, it helps to prolong their careers. Imagine Giannis 10 years from now if he cannot develop his shooting. Although the guy is developing and is somehow smart. Maybe he can play basic simple basketball like Tim Duncan when his body is past its prime. I think Westbrook's ego is also a problem. That would be hard to teach. Even during his younger years with KD and Harden, I think most of the time he's got more attempts than KD and others.
Giannis is already improving on his shooting and is trying to turn into a complete player. He has also started taking 3's since the opponents were just putting men into the paint and not letting him drive through and even when there is space. He's getting battered trying to get to the rim. Which is perfectly fine for a player like him but you cannot do that day in and out.

I don't know...  Giannis seems to be a different beast.  His thin frame and willingness to put in work along with his past, leaves no doubt that he'll continue doing the work to stay healthy.  A guy like Zion Williamson will probably be battling injuries his entire career, but I don't think Giannis will have this problem.  I think we'll continue to see him improve for some time and as stated, he'll put in the work to increase his skills as age wears on his athleticism.  That's a long way from now though...  Giannis still probably hasn't hit his peak and may be a couple of years away still.
5428  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the Mt. Gox coins affect Bitcoin’s price in August? on: July 18, 2022, 04:18:06 PM
Common sense would indicate that when the mtgox coins are distributed we would see a very large selloff.  This is just the reality.  Many people have had their coins trapped for a long time and will need to sell them immediately because life happens.  The thing is that the big investors know this is coming, and they may in fact have been causing this crash in order to scoop those coins for cheap.  Good investors always tend to be a step ahead, so as the Bitcoin market has matured we've seen more frontrunning, the way the market sold off when it should have been bubbling in the first dip from the 60s.  For now, all we can do is wait and see how things play out.  I do feel the bottom will be coming in the next couple of months if it isn't already behind us.  The next bull market is accepting passengers...
5429  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 18, 2022, 04:15:33 PM
A lot of people declaring victory over the bear market already.  We're still definitely not in celebrating territory in my opinion, but we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  Overall strength in the stock market and crypto market seems to show that investors believe the worst is behind us and they very well may be correct.  There's just the mtgox hurdle and the eth2.0 unlock left and we'll be back to clear skies in the forecast.  I'd still be slowly buying in here and not going all or nothing.
5430  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 17, 2022, 02:42:57 AM
LeBron really tore it up in the Drew League today.  Putting up 42 and 16 against the mostly amateur competition.  Pretty amazing that he's still able to dominate like this at his age.  Looking like if he can stay healthy next year will be another big one.

In Kyrie/Lakers news...  It seems the Nets are still unimpressed by the trade packages that the Lakers are offering them for Kyrie.  I'm not sure if I want Kyrie to go to the Lakers or not, but it would be one hell of a move for them to get Kyrie and lose Russell's contract with one move.

5431  Other / Meta / Re: This Symbol is very annoying , Moderator should have consider it on: July 17, 2022, 02:39:45 AM
I checked on several browsers, and nothing like what you write happens. Most likely, you have a problem.
These are just symbols. If the moderator will be distracted by the complaint of each participant from the fact that they are not satisfied with the symbols, and at the same time they are different, I do not think that this will be useful.
As an example, write to the creator of the branch and explain that this is very annoying for you, and ask to change the symbol. Smiley

I looked at a few browsers and was able to see it when using Microsoft Edge.  It is pretty annoying on that browser, I will admit.  I've never seen anything like this before on the forum, but I'm typically using Safari or Firefox.  I don't think the OP has a problem (other than using Microsoft Edge for a browser) and it seems like this is normal.  Can anyone else confirm they see this using Microsoft Edge?  I'd hate to think that I also have a problem.
5432  Economy / Speculation / Re: Everything down against the USD, which is down.. on: July 16, 2022, 07:47:58 PM
Against the USD, which is DOWN, putting up record inflation numbers..

Wow the world is going crazy..

That isn't true.  Over the last year the US Dollar Index has risen from 91 to 109.  While this does indicate the world has gone crazy, it certainly shows that people are fleeing to what they believe is the world's strongest currency, the US Dollar.  It is still the global reserve currency and as we enter a recessionary rate raising environment it is clear that is where the money is flowing.  How this is possible with all the printing we just did...  Well, that's why we're all here.  Bitcoin and alternative payment assets are ripe for their day in the sun.

Thoughts?

I think your feelings are normal in a bear market.  Especially as we get close to the lows.  I think you should take this time to rethink why you got involved with Bitcoin and what your expectations are going forward.  Taking a realistic approach and buying over time with amounts you are comfortable with will make you proud of your stash instead of fearful of what will happen.  You don't need to take an all or nothing approach.  Do what you think is best, but put a lot of thought into what you do.
5434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Satoshi Nakamoto Fooled the World on: July 16, 2022, 04:39:15 PM
This thread title reminds me of a clip from the show Seinfeld...  They fooled ME Jerry...  or was it, They FOOLED me Jerry?  In any event, whatever fooling satoshi did, I'm glad I was a victim of it.  You can say what you want about how Bitcoin has progressed since it's inception or satoshi's departure, but you can't deny that the public blockchain and mining incentive/security innovation was a great step forward and truly a needed creation.  That genius has carried Bitcoin to where it is today, much more than any software development or advertising campaign.  Great ideas are hard to bottle.

5435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My old officemate become millionaire on investing on Bitcoin on: July 16, 2022, 04:35:11 PM
Back in 2011, I was spending quite a bit of time daily learning about Bitcoin while at work.  I would tell everyone to buy some Bitcoin.  Anytime I interacted with an IT person I'd ask them if they bought Bitcoin.  It was always the same dismissive attitude like I was trying to push them into a scam.  I wonder if any of them talk about that guy from work who wouldn't stop screaming for them to buy Bitcoin at $2.  Needless to say, by the time Bitcoin hit the hundreds of dollars per coin I was on my way out the door and I don't think I ever got anyone to buy any BTC.  Hopefully the seeds I planted were able to help someone down the line.

While the title of this thread may be a bit out of line, it seems that every day something new happens where Joe Biden shows he is not capable of performing his duties as President of the United States.  Foreign leaders are having to walk him around to his spots and his handlers are constantly telling him where he is and what he's doing there.  It's not right for so many reasons.  I hope that his family talks him out of running in the next election.  I don't even want to see this man in a debate again.  It's worse than a trainwreck.  I hope he gets the help he needs and is able to enjoy retirement at some point while he still remembers his name.
5437  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul v Hasim Rahman Jr / Amanda Serrano V Brenda Carabaja co-main event Aug on: July 16, 2022, 04:27:00 PM
I think Jake has no choice but to try and bait Tyson into a fight by the end of the year to keep his name in the news.

I've heard that Jake was aiming to get into UFC and get some big fights, perhaps a title fight already (lol). But Dana White told him to wait, join qualifying (the ultimate fighter show maybe or Dana White contender show), train and wait when he be called. Also heard that Jake is waiting for big UFC stars contracts to end, then he will be able to call them for a fight. But I agree that Pauls exhibition boxing fights hype is dying.

MMA is a whole different sport to boxing. MMA fighters can compete in boxing but it's very rare you'd get the opposite with boxers going to MMA unless they've already got some wrestling experience or something. Jake will almost certainly fight some UFC fighters once their contracts are up but not in MMA. Boxing is where the money is now and Dana is going to lose big names like Ngannou if he either doesn't start paying them more or lets them box as well. Nate Diaz has been publicly calling for Dana to let him go so he can fight Jake so I can see that happening and Jake seems to want it too. That wouldn't be a bad fight and would be a big challenge for Jake as Nate can punch and also take a beating. Connor has 2 or 3 fights left with the UFC and if the money is there to fight Jake then I can very much see that happening in the future just as long as Jake can keep bringing in the numbers. As long as he keeps winning he's going to gain more and more fans and get a hell of a lot more eyeballs on him so it's not out of the possibility. McGregor is at risk of becoming washed up as well so he might not have much choice if he doesn't turn things around in the UFC.

I saw #FreeNateDiaz trending on twitter the other night.  It does seem like a pretty messed up situation for him.  Dana won't get him a fight and also won't let him get his own fight outside of the UFC.  I understand that Dana is a businessman, but I think it's gotten to the point where instead of growing the UFC company with his business skills, he's allowing other sports like boxing to begin getting back their market share.  Surely the UFC is making enough money to where they could double fighter pay without hurting the bottom line.  In this case, all he needs to do is let Nate walk away from his contract.  Seems like the right thing to do, but I'm sure Dana wants a cut to make it happen.

Russell Westbrook just fired his longtime agent who wanted him to stay in LA and finish his contract. This is leading to speculation that Westbrook might be open to a buyout and a new contract, which would obviously mean his agent taking less money. I’m sure Westbrook feels like his situation in LA is toxic and he’s willing to do whatever to get away, including giving up money. I guess him and his agent couldn’t agree on that strategy. His agent released a good statement about it. Worth reading…
5439  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reason why russia can never win war on: July 16, 2022, 12:42:24 AM
Russia already won the war. The only reason Putin is still sticking around is to help people believe it.

Cool

I don’t know if I’d say Russia has already won the war, but they did accomplish their goals. However, with the dollar’s recent strength you can see that the West is fighting back. Currently though, Russia is bringing in a whole lot of revenue while seeding doubt in the US Dollar’s ability to maintain it’s global reserve currency status going forward.
5440  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 16, 2022, 12:39:53 AM
It is indeed good for the Phoenix Suns because they have managed to match the offer with the Pacers, now Ayton are staying but they could've saved more money if they offer Ayton much earlier but what's done is done and the thing is that they are able to keep Deandre Ayton for that.

There might be a rumor about that but the Heat has nothing to offer to the Nets in exchange for Durant.
Nets Prefer To Keep Kevin Durant Due To Below Expectation Trade Offers

On the one hand, it's good that the Suns decided to sign a contract with Ayton. On the other hand, it looks like we won't see Durant in the Suns uniform since the Suns now simply don't have the assets to compete with other teams for a Durant trade. By the way, there have also been rumors that the Knicks, Heat, and Nets want Mitchell. What do you think about that? Is a multilateral deal involving Mitchell and Durant possible?

I don’t think so. I would assume any interest the Nets have in Mitchell would be for a Kyrie trade. I think Durant is going to end up in a Nets uniform to start the year. Kyrie will probably move to Los Angeles and it will be KD and Ben Simmons for a while. Maybe once the season gets going a contender will want to make a move for KD with some big pieces. KD seemed to have his heart set on Phoenix, so who knows what happens now.
