562  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will be 10k+ Q1 2014. on: December 12, 2013, 09:53:31 PM
Its more likely for bitcoin to go back to $100 than it is to go to $10,000.

The only way bitcoin can go to $10,000 in the near term is if wall street gets involved. That means the Winklevoss twins ETF gets approved. It might take a while for that to happen if it ever does.

Bitcoin will be over $10k by the end of 2014 (is my guess).

How do we check to see how many devcoins we earned in round 30?  I can see I got "39 word count", but how many devcoins is that?
564  Economy / Economics / Re: 927 People Own Half of All Bitcions on: December 11, 2013, 10:22:01 PM
How many per cent of all USD is held by the 900 richest people in USA?

The richest 1% (somewhere around 2 to 3 million people) hold 42% of the wealth in the USA. So should be somewhere around 10-20%.

565  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: December 11, 2013, 01:10:01 PM
I have a noob question.  How do I install offline armoury onto a linux laptop?  I bought this to use as an offline wallet:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001IBHVCA/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It says it comes with Linux installed (I can't actually tell if it does as I've no idea what Linux looks like, but I'm presuming it does).  I'm used to using a Mac and have never used Linux.  I don't have a USB stick but I've got an external HD.  I downloaded the Armoury client on my macbook and dragged it onto my External HD.  I unplugged the external HD and plugged it into the Linux laptop.  Nothing happens.  There's no 'desktop' on the laptop for files to appear.  It doesn't seem to recognise the external HD at all.  What do I do?  How do I upload and install the armoury files?

Thanks!  All help much appreciated! Smiley
566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank to offer competitor to BTC? on: December 10, 2013, 09:11:20 PM
Depending on how the protocol works (irreversible?) it could be a very useful mechanism to move USD and thus facilitate greater peer to peer exchange of BTC for USD.  I mean lets face it if you want to sell or buy BTC and you don't want to use an exchange, right now which is the "harder" half of the equation?  Transferring BTC or transferring USD?

That's a good point, it will make it easier to cash out of USD into BTC!
567  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia Donation Campaign and still no Bitcoin on: December 09, 2013, 09:49:46 PM
Here's one theory why they wont accept bitcoin:

There was a story in the press recently about Wikipedia having a problem with the bribery of their editors to write positive things about certain companies/people.  If they added bitcoin as a means of donation this would likely make all their editors aware of bitcoin and enable them to accept bribes very easily via bitcoin.  The achievable anonymity behind bitcoin actually makes it ideal for bribery, which could infect Wikipedia and ruin its entire credibility.  This could make Wikipedia anti-bitcoin.

Just an idea.
568  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will BTC hit $10.000 in Q1 of 2014 ? on: December 09, 2013, 01:54:41 PM
My guess is that BTC will be over $10k at the end of 2014.
569  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BTC38 Fee on: December 09, 2013, 10:07:45 AM
I think we should try to get DVC on BTC38.com, a chinese altcoin exchange.  I hear there is a fee they require for adding a new coin to their exchange, either we could all chip in to pay it or use bounty funds.  Also we need someone to contact them in Chinese explaining the merits of DVC and finding out how much the fee is.

If the fee is small under 5 bitcoins, we'll definitely go for it, over that we'll see. Someone, please find out what the fee is. Whoever does will get four shares.

Edit: Actually, before I promise that we'll pay a high fee, I'd like to see the volume of their altcoins compared to other exchanges like btc-e.

According to someone on DGC forum (different coin) who asked btc38.com about this, they said they require a coin to have a minimum difficulty of 2.  As a non-miner I'm not entirely sure what that means, does DVC have a higher difficulty than that?  I don't know if that difficulty level is just for script coins...

A vote here for DGC and DVC.
574  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: POLL: Which coin should BTC-E add next? on: December 07, 2013, 10:10:33 PM
DGC because it will get a USD/DGC pair soon on cryptoave exchange which will increase demand, so there will be more DGC trade and they should accommodate to market demand.
575  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WTB NX, 10 BTC worth! on: December 06, 2013, 04:33:26 PM

Ok I see it, thanks, my Nxt client just crashed, will fix it and send Nxt in a moment.  What is your Nxt address?

allrighty, my address is 16320235089986915177

Ok its fixed, sorry about that brief delay, I've just sent you 300k Nxt.  Please send the rest of the BTC and we can complete the trade (or we can continue in increments as you prefer).

I hate fees and I know you do too, sent the seven coins. waiting for my 900k

I see it, thanks, have sent the Nxt.  Pleasure doing business! Smiley   Would you mind posting in my reputation thread saying how much we traded?  It's here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=347600.msg3792251#msg3792251

I did already Smiley, can anyone please tell me how to enable mining?

Thanks.  When you're logged into the client it should say "you can mine the next block in x amount of time", if it says that then you are 'mining' (although there are't any more Nxt coins to mine, but you are securing the network and will earn from transaction fees).  It will count down and if someone elses counter gets to 0 first they will mine the Nxt, then the timer resets and keeps resetting until you eventually mine a block and earn the fees.
