561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IFC/USD trading available now!!! on: March 04, 2014, 02:09:55 AM
IFC developers don't realize that there is a problem with too much liquidity, or I should say diffused liquidity.   Not allowing markets to grow organically and forcing new markets without a correlated growth int eh community means that the increased number of markets diffuses the value of IFC.

Now that IFC is on several exchanges in BTC/LTC/USD, etc.  I pick a market and put a bid or ask but other traders might be interested in another market entirely.  So I am forced to accept bids/asks outside the ones I prefer.  Since markets are less liquid because they are diffused and as a result there are high spreads I would rather not take the risk and just walk away.

This is not good for IFC.
562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The True Value of Auroracoin on: March 03, 2014, 04:45:29 AM
It's a scam.  The developers create a coin without the governments consent.  Do a press release stating you will give "some" of the coins to the citizens (only the ones with internet with no explanation of how or why).  Traders pump it and developers dump the 50% premine.
563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A question to the community on: March 01, 2014, 03:06:07 AM
I don't like to waste time on asking useless questions.

1) Do you value a coin that creates a better world through equality, humanitarian deeds etc (basically the creation of a more egalitarian society)?
or
2) Do you value a coin that lets anyone become a millionaire?

I am a developer and I have some big plans.

They all do.  Usually it is the developers that only have a few years experience.  They list to post first before actually providing anything substantial (lite source code)

I know you guys think that I am acting strange.

Not really, this happens all the time.  Developers with big ideas are a dime a dozen here.

But this research will help me in my next big project. And its gonna be something big. I want to contribute something good for the community not like others.

Yup well good luck.  It's probably going to be big.  The forum will probably implode when you post the [ANN].  The community will probably weep in celebration.  Unlike all the other big intentions that failed to deliver.  Grin

564  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptsy screws me over twice :o on: February 26, 2014, 09:25:52 PM
With the removal of cent(Pennies) off Cryptsy i had a decent about of coins at rock bottom ready to buy up any panic sell coins now what does Cryptsy come and do they announce that they are removing the coin and everyone panics and dumps

Never leave an open order for something you don't really want.  You call it shitcoin but you had an open order for it.  Well its not cryptsy's fault it is yours.  You put yourself in that situation.  If CENT crashed like it did and then went up a hundred fold on another exchange you would be thrilled with the win.  Trade at your own discretion.

I have nothing to say about the negative balance.  That is a code fix that needs to be resolved.

566  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bounty offered - A fork of the bitcoin network that goes back to block 219200 on: February 26, 2014, 05:49:01 PM
Interesting.  So the people who mine it are the ones who lost all their BTC on Gox.  They basically feel cheated and are going to start their own version of BTC like Gox never happened.

Hey I know can we fork the BTC chain back to November 3rd 2012 so that I can get back the 10,000 bitcoins I sold for $3.   I want it back because I made a mistake selling it as I did not realize that Bitcoin would be $1200 each in 2014.  So can someone make a new block chain for me.  I''ll send you 100 of those BTC at $1200 each that an easy $120,000 for the service. :p:p:p
567  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: High inflationary coins on: February 26, 2014, 02:01:39 PM
Let me clarify myself:

BitCoin's total money supply is 21 000 000 coins (the inflation is 0 or negative if we eliminate the lost coins).

WorldCoin has around 260 000 000 coins in total money supply and it is thus similar than bitcoin.

There are however coin(s) that has not limited the money supply and then the money supply basically grows and grows.
The "current" increase towards these maximum numbers I am not considering as inflation.

For the short term, perhaps this doesn't make any difference but if you are investing in a coin for long haul (like for few years), the unlimited money supply will eventually make your purchasing power dropping drastically.
Think about USD - it has lost over 95 % of its purchasing power withing almost 100 years. It means, if you have saved money all your life and today you die at the age of 100, the 100 USD bill you put under your carpet is now worth of only 5 USD in today's terms. However, if you had put acentury ago 100 USD in store to gold bullion, you would have 5 oz of gold (correct if I am wrong) which is today worth of 6000 USD.

I do not say the coins that have unlimited money supply are necessary bad but.... It comes to the cost of savers. I am sorry but if I had to choose a coin, I chose a coin that has limited money supply. Then I have to leave aside some coins and start comparing all the other coins with other feature. To me, however, the limited money supply is the premise # 1 to even consider a coin.

Ok, but just to be clear so that we are not miscommunicating and for the good of others entering the conversation.  Inflation is defined in economics as general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money.  The cause and velocity of the increase in consumer prices and fall in purchasing value of money is irrelevant.

You have to consider any "current" increase in money supply as a cause for inflation, but they are.  You need to understand that you perceive inflation through your investment time which may not be equal to another persons investment time.

Let me give you an example.  I build a coin with your criteria.  A fixed money supply of 1 trillion coins.  The reward will be 50 coins per block every 5 minutes.  THis means that the reward will stop in 9,512,938 years.

Now, by your reasoning you should agree with this coin as acceptable because it is fixed and rewards savers.

569  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PREDICTION: A SHA256 ALT coin will become as big a success as Litecoin (1-2Yrs) on: February 26, 2014, 05:49:37 AM
merge mining has destroyed any change for a SHA256 coin to be competitive with BTC.  They have all just become slaves to the BTC chain.  Sorry Scrypt or another algorithm are the only change to be competitive.

I refuse to believe that gen1 Bitcoin ASIC owners are just going to throw their hands in the air and give up when their ASICs become unprofitable.

actually they are, people are giving up on them.  1st Gen erupters are going for about $5 to 7 each.  Some owners have just chucked them because they are not producing the earnings they anticipated and others are still using them to gain a fraction of a BTC in hopes of BTC going to $10k just to recoupt he cost of the investments.

People can't even sell them because it cost more to ship them to buyers!!!!!  So your hopes that there will be a rally around a new SHA256 coin are misguided.

There are currently 4 active nonmergmineable SHA256 coins and none of them have come even close to a fraction of a percent of BTC.

So expecting a new SHA256 revival is a waste of time.

I don't use Facebook because it is a terrible platform.  As far as sockpuppets I know people who have anywhere between a few hundred and a few thousand sockpuppet facebook accounts.

572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: whats up with gox and litecoin support now on: February 26, 2014, 04:55:54 AM

Wow, unbelievable stories. Some people have lost thousands of Bitcoins! I would like to think that if I had several million dollars worth of BTC, I would have cashed out long ago, retired and setup my kids education. Even if not cashed out, at least put the coins in a private wallet!
THIS ^^^.  People need to realize this isn't their heavy regulated 401k stock market.  It's like to gold rush.  People who didn't protect themselves were killed for their mining stake.  Trust no one.
573  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coin Suggestions on: February 26, 2014, 04:25:19 AM
If, I could make a coin I would make it

-asic resistant
-scrypt jane
-proof of stake coin
-6 month proof of work window
block rewards
1,000,000 0-2 weeks
500,000 4 weeks
250,000 6 weeks
125,000 8 weeks
62500 10 weeks
31250 12 weeks
15125 14 weeks
7500 16 weeks
3750 18 weeks
1875 20 weeks
937 22 weeks
468 24 weeks

(block rewards remain at 468 per block thereafter)
Once POS period starts:   5% per month (60% return per year)
1% tiny premine amount to give away to users on facebook (in order to spread the word and decentralize it.) with rest used to dev, and marketing.
30 second blocks

Coin name: Sharecoin (shares)  Grin

That sounds pretty great with a couple tweaks and good marketing it could go somewhere. It's worth considering

Its just another disinflationary coin with a fixed money supply like DOGE started as and IFC is.  There is nothing innovative about it.  All that is left is brand and that amounts to nothing.

Jesus H Christ people  this is in urban dictionary from 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=goxed

Being effectively fooled and/or trolled repeatedly. Derived from the "temporary" closure of the Bitcoin exchange site MtGox in June 2011, and the repeated delays in reopening for trading.
The MtGox opening has been delayed another 24 hours... we've been goxed AGAIN!

2 years of VB
2 years of SAS
Beginner in CS

I'm willing to learn from whoever wants to teach

I would invest more time in your studies before making a new coin.  I have 15 years of application development experience, I'm a master application architect at a financial firm with a background at C, C++, Java, C#, Ruby, Fortran, COBOL, Assembly, etc.  You need to really understand what you are developing before you design a new cryptocurrency that is innovative and has utility.  Otherwise you will just create another nameless coin that will probably end up dead.

You have better opportunities developing applications for existing currencies that trying your hand at yet another coin.

You only get scammed if you're not aware of what you're getting into.. And more exchanges to support crypto is what we need.

Right.  So.  By your logic we are better off if we have 10 more mtGox exchanges than what we currently have now.  Clearly for teh better.... Undecided
