5681  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 27, 2014, 11:04:14 PM
Hi, yesterday I received an email about sending 3 new PSUs and information that other 7 will be shipped ASAP. I was really happy because I have had 3 miners without PSUs, but not for a long time. Nowadays I have 10 pcs S4 B1 and 10 pcs S4 B2 and a lot of S3+ miners.

Today morning when I arrived to work I smelled burnt stink. Employees were scared, called me and ran around. WTF I said for myself. I hoped that the reason for all arround was not caused by miners but I was not right. I looked at the miners and two of them were down. Immediately I switched off all breakers dedicated for miners. And yes, one miner had PSU burned down. It was very easy to find which miner was bad Sad It was the fourth failed PSU. I checked all breakers and only one was switched off automatically.

When the smell disappeared from the building (after 2 hours) I started with switching on the breakers one by one. After that I switched on PSUs on S4s. But another one from B1 and also one from B2 could not start. Also fans were stopped. I tried to reconnect the power but nothing helped. I have not understood what happened. All miners were running more than one week continuously.
The PSUs do have really some problems. I hoped that PSUs in B2 were good, but....or today is only bad day for mining Smiley

Today status is 5 failed PSUs from 10 pcs from B1 and one failed PSU from 10 pcs from B2.
Truly sorry about that, Sir. This is Tim Shao from Bitmaintech. You may have received an email from info@bitmaintech.com asking you to specify the PSU type. And i wonder if you can provide some photos to show us the burned PSU, i'm not asking you to risk running the miner again. But it does help if we can glean some actual info from the affected customer and submit them to the PSU supplier, and this will also help us improve the product quality to prevent this from happening again. Thank you for your understanding.
I have the following questions:
1.
"I looked at the miners and two of them were down. Immediately I switched off all breakers dedicated for miners. And yes, one miner had PSU burned down. It was very easy to find which miner was bad"
Two were down, and one miner had PSU burned down? Which one was burned down? And what about the other one? Stop running? cannot power it up?
2.
And you mentioned in the following posts that your B2 has barcode on it and you are sure it's not from the defective batch, can you provide me your order id for this miner, or would you please send me a photo of it? Thanks.
Hi all, yes I have received the email. I am sure that the PSU is from batch 2 (have sticker and SN).
Answers for Tim.Shao19:
1. My miners are connected in pairs to single breaker(2xS4 to 1xC20 breaker). When one PSU burnt down and breaker for this miner went down also another miner switched off. Is it clear?
2. Order is 00120141014004349482tuQeQyd106EE from 2014-10-14 00:43:50.0. PSU SN:188A410120045 PSU don't have visible changes outside and also inside.
Hi there, we may have sent replacement PSUs to you, have u received any tracking no for the replacements? or you can provide me your email address or order id, then i will double check and keep you informed. And can you please provide any proof on your burned PSU if possible? (i know it may be difficult to tell the burned PSU from the appearance.) we need to glean some real info from customers and feedback with the PSU supplier rather than just claim that we got bad PSUs.  Thanks.
Hi Tim.Shao19,
I sent you  video with burned PSU last Friday. I really do not understand the purpose of that video you asked me for, as the burned  PSU is not feasible to switch on, the fan is out of order. If there was a visible black burned component, I would have sent you a photo. But on this PSU are not visible changes.
Today I have received information from customs office that I have two shipments. One with 3 PSUs and second with 7 PSUs. I was really happy, but...
BITMAIN encloses invoice for 3*140=420USD and 7*140=980USD. The customs officer asked me for 280USD tax and 133USD duty. Great help Bitmain!!!
Now I have 5 days to submit relevant documents that the shipments include only "warranty replacement parts" and the invoices with ZERO values!
TIM, if you want to help me send me ASAP the invoices with zero vales and RMA documents that will be a prove for customs office. I refuse to pay any additional money  your products related. I have spent a lot of time by the resolving problems with S4 miners.
Along with Bitmain sending you the needed documents, send an email to Bitmain with all gov or shipping company contact information you have regarding this and ask that they DIRECTLY send the documents to CBP/shipping company to clear this up along with those sent to you to pass on.

just got my tracking number too.. but here's the question, do they expect us to pay for the import duty? and same with sending their psu back to them as suggested in the last email? cause thats gonna hurt my wallet if i have to pay for that again..
Duty? Not in the US at least. Is part of the shipping cost.
As for returns/replacements. No duty as long as parts are marked as warranty replacements. Even if Bitmain wants to old one back as long as marked as a Return no duty applies (plus if any did would be their problem, not yours)

the last time i had an issue with the s2 they took the old hashboard back, they were meant to pay the duty, they didnt pay it, and ups were up my ass for the money, so in the end i had to pay for that too
... We ship things to/from Asia all the time and never came across that before. I'd try and go after Bitmain for the monies. If anything to make it more palatable to them (though it IS their responsibility) email support an offer to buy a set of s3's if they deduct the current btc value of the duty?

The sender has the responsibility as marking it "warranty replacement part" .. I think if you do that the duty should be waved . mark the value of the defective part "0.00"

No?
yes that is how it goes.
Sender of the replacement still has to list the correct value or Customs gets upset but also identify it as a no-cost warranty replacement to nullify import duty and taxes. Defective part being returned is to be labeled as 'defective' with zero value.

My accepted/discards ratio is also showing very high discards compared to every other miner I have. Normally Accepted outpaces discards by 2:1 give or take. With the s4 the discards are massively x more than accepted. But, as long as the pools are happy, whatever...

Discards mean nothing, people need to stop looking at them.

I appreciate your guides and if this comment was in a different thread, it'd hold some weight with me.  I also appreciate you disclosing your paid status with Bitmain.  The community has been hurt too much from shills/shysters, poor manufacturers etc.  There's very little trust left for paid representatives. I hope you understand and there's no intentional ill will, but my opinion of your posts in this thread are marginal at best. Obviously YMMV.

Maybe if I quote ck people will believe me... the same message applies to ALL hardware, discards are meaningless.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=709503.msg8018688#msg8018688
Works for me, like I said if the Pools don't care we shouldn't either.
I *am* curious what they are. Shares/data too small to process? Gonna have to look that up
5686  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 22, 2014, 01:36:13 AM
Thank you so much for the time you've invested to make the S4 more funtional, ckolivas. I'm going to send you a donation tomorrow morning.

I'd like to try ck's new version tomorrow, but I have no idea how to go about updating cgminer. Can anyone shed some light, or point me towards a guide?
Assuming your S4's IP address was say 192.168.1.99:

Code:
ssh -l root 192.168.1.99 (or equivalent with putty)
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s4/4.6.1-141018/cgminer
mv /usr/bin/cgminer /usr/bin/cgminer.bak
chmod +x cgminer
mv cgminer /usr/bin/cgminer
/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh restart

I think that might not keep across a power cycle though.

You were right, the changes don't stick across a power cycle. Is there any way to make them permanent?
Ditto. Anyway to make the new binary stick? I see Bitmain removed the tab for tinkering with the individual 'ux programs. Don't want to have to get more always-on-line UPS's for them...

So does this appear in line with what others are getting in terms of accepted vs. discarded?

60% to chips. 30% to IMET. 10% + the Loan to deliver miners.  Bankruptcy costs money, and we thought if the market held we may have been able to pull through. The idea was to get clients something instead of leaving them with nothing.

Isn't that a somehow big amount for chips only? They are the cheapest component. You got a terrible deal on the chips imo!
Actually the amount spent for chips is right and even after the initial runs the chips are *not* the lowest cost parts by a long shot. The only thing missing from that budget break down is development cost of the rigs themselves. Ya know, general system layout, case design, a properly designed hashboard layout, testing...

It is missing for good reason: Bitmine.ch was supposed to do that. Systems from Josh were based on their lead. We know how things went for Bitmine.ch's own direct customers... And while all hell was breaking loose, Innosilicon quietly sat back taking notes for a month or so seeing the problems. They made damn sure not to repeat the terrible design choices Bitmine.ch used...

For any 1st production run of chips there is always a massive premium on them to recoup the very considerable amounts spent on design, respins and production setup costs charged by the chip foundry (in this case GlobalFoundries). Hell, look at prices for the newest Intel or AMD cpu's for a good example of that. Now once demand is proven and production ramps up or is at least sustained - then prices drop like a stone.

Again - cpu's or better yet  Bitmain s1's. Initial cost for one was well over $2k (and why the A1 chip rigs and BFL's Monarchs looked to be one heck of a deal). Bought my first s1's @ $750 each in mid March and the last ones I got for around $250.

it's most likely buried in the 2nd closed thread somewhere or the first closed one. Do a Forum search on it?
I may have something on it in my chats with Joshua Zipkin, will look there later.
And again - if I find/post it ah, someone should remember it is Public Record and only will be the actual filing link.

What happened with the IMET money? Did you recover anything? If not then why?

The IMET proceedings are still on going. The priority was the class action not the IMET suit. If you only have X for legal, you spend X on the most immediate concern. When the class action has come to a resolve, the IMET proceedings will continue.

But I thought that the class action was the result of the IMET thing. Why didn't you start with IMET proceedings before the class action?

The class action was filed on April 2nd, we still had issues with IMET's productions as well as and promises of success from them as well. The IMET case was filed sometime in May, because we were dealing with the beginning proceedings of the class action. If the class action never exsisted we would have only sued IMET, we would have won and went to China two months earlier and everyone would have received their miners.
*that* bit I do more or less agree on. The Class action was started much to soon which is why Opeium2 and I were pushing against it early on when there was a glimmer of hope that the design and mfg issues could be resolved.

Yep and anytime you want them back feel free to pick them up. Considering your history on accepting returns not even going to try.

Rich, pretty hostile these days.
Hostile ? No.
For obvious reasons I have strong sympathies to the Business World but I also have very strong business morals. (and no that is not an oxymoron) At almost every turn you have dismissed the notion that customers are Customers. With a big 'C'. Regardless of outside circumstances one does not screw them over, post personal information, etc.

We ran out of money. What would have you done?
Been honest and open about the situation with the customers. I would have stopped all further sales as soon as the mfg problems arose. In the end if needed, file for reorganization or bankruptcy.

Yes for a while at least you were truly scrambling to make something out of this mess and a Tip of the Visor to that but - it still does not excuse your egregious violations of legally mandated Customers Rights.

Oh Josh.. you seem to have forgotten just who made that chat room - ME. EVERYTHING POSTED THERE IS 100% ACCURATE. For those who need a refresher course in reality, here you go:
https://sites.google.com/site/hpulhp/home/files/AMT-NDA%20Room%20chats%20to%20date%20names%20REDACTED%20.pdf?attredirects=0&d=1

We've always liked you Rich, but if that were a true skype chat wouldn't you be in breach of your NDA? And no one cares about 200 pages of a bullshit skype chat where you and tony are doing most of the talking. Really, who cares? All of the 156 clients that we have? The micro community that's left on this forum?  Again Rich, with respect please do stay out of these distractions or arguments. Ja is there no relief for the son of a window?

You mean the NDA that you never signed? Takes more than one party to make an agreement bucko. Yes it 100% true and no I am not in violation.
That aside, the real IP points are all in the pm chats which even though am NOT legally bound to keep sealed (remember? You never signed anything?) I still am. Professionalism and all that ya know? Scratch that - you wouldn't.

It was signed by us and exists in our attorney's records. And while we need to work on professionalism, that is for sure, we still do respect you Rich, and we felt above all people you'd understand our actions as of lately. See Rich you've inspired greatness.
[/quote]
Strange, the original copy I have from you has no signature from you or your representative(s).
Nor did you return to me a signed copy of the amended NDA I prepared which is the one that bears my signature. Without formal acknowledgement of the amendment it remains unenforceable by either party.

Posted to remind Joshua Zipkin of Reality

Dear AMT fans and foes,

We realize that some of our clients who have received their machines are feeling a bit hostile. We want to assure everyone that we are putting together a compensation program that will go live on December 15th, 2014 or sooner. We'll do our best to compensate clients their full loss.  Some clients have already been refunded, and we're doing the best we can every week.

Regarding the class action, we are in discovery processes. This is where plaintiffs counsel reviews all of our information, write a response and gives it to the judge to review.

Regarding FBI claims and the PA Attorney General, we have been in contact with them and we are going to work with them very closely now. And we're excited about that.

Regarding these skype chats that they are throwing around this forum, we'll still stand to say they are complete bullshit manifested by Tony Serrata (aka Opieum2). And honestly, we couldn't give a crap about them.

WHY does Tony Serrata keep posting negative things about us on a daily basis?  Because he thinks we sell more than him. He's afraid of us.

And regarding our sales, as we've said it before we're not selling although we would like to. And the truth is we haven't sold since April 7th, 2014.

Why are we so being open, because even though we're trying to do the right thing the to the customers that want us to make them whole, are the same ones stopping up from bringing in new revenue in order to do that.

We will lay out our 3 month compensation and business plan shortly.

BTW.... can we sue the AMT lawyers?

Here's an interesting lawsuit by Facebook against the lawyers of a fraudster.

http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-sues-paul-ceglia-lawyers-2014-10

If we can find out that AMT lawyers were aware that AMT was committing fraud, then we may be able to sue them too!
While I am not a lawyer, I do believe that once counsel is retained then yes, they too can be complicit in any continuing illegal activities their client does after they are hired ]IF THEY ARE AWARE OF IT[ and give provable aid in said activities as in the link you gave.
