My current roommate/U.S. Army buddy and I have been thinking up some awesome ways to do this. In fact, thinking of putting together a film of some sort. I think it could end up pretty good. It will go far and beyond the just the stake in the book. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Do eet. Hell yes, an Army guy. I wanna see this.

And assuming they last long enough to break even. Remember, these things were designed to run at 20 watts, and now they're being pumped with 80 watts.
And now they're designed to run at 80w. What's your point? I believe his point is that they weren't designed to run at 80w, they were patched to run at 80w. My understanding is that the power supply circuitry is being reworked from the ground up to be good for 80 watts. EDIT: I found the quote, here you go: In relation to the original design they said: The system actually consumes about 80 watts of power. The 1.1V core voltage regulator on the prototype system was designed with only 50A (around 55Watts) in mind. The power brick is rated at only 48 watts. As is clear, the system has been running over-currented (by some 20A) both on regulator side and PSU side (32 watts on PSU). In relation to the updated design they said: Our production system that is currently in manufacture for delivery, has two regulators on board, supporting max 120A of current implemented as a safety margin. The PSU shipped with the units will be equally supporting up to 135 Watts.

Are the stickers small round silver stickers with black print on them? If so, I saw a guy selling a 5850 locally that had a similar sticker. I didn't know they were making 58XXs as recently as two months ago. I wonder if they were just getting rid of remaining stock or if they're actually refurbs.
Yep they were, and I was thinking the same - probably not manufactured this recently, so perhaps it means refurb. Anyways, I have 4 of them running now, giving me 1700 Mhash/s (very slight OC to 950). Waiting for PCIe extenders and other bits to get the other 3 running.

It's a little too expensive for me at this point. I'm interested, but I hope they eventually come down in price.
I'm not sure if your math skills are bad or if you just haven't taken the time to figure this stuff out but the BFL singles make sense from every angle I can see. That's why I bought 11. ...assuming the singles exist... And assuming they last long enough to break even. Remember, these things were designed to run at 20 watts, and now they're being pumped with 80 watts. The power supply circuitry was sized for 20 watts, but is being redesigned because of the higher than expected power draw of the FPGAs. I wouldn't think that any sane FPGA developer would overclock or overdrive his chips beyond their ratings, so it must have just been a fail of BFL to read the max power draw from the spec sheet. Or, they could be custom FPGAs from the ground up, (I doubt this, for obvious reasons), and they simply couldn't predict the power usage of a custom design. EDIT: I might also note, according to the pictures, these look like they might have metal packaging on top, similar to a CPU. From what I understand, this chip packaging is wildly expensive, so I wonder if that is what it is?

I got mine today, all 7 of them. Came in OEM boxes (no accessories), in shipping bags marked with 1saleaday.com ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) All appear to be brand new, as advertised. Only issue with 2 of them were bent brackets, but that was easily fixed with pliers. They don't *look* like refurbs, because there is no dust at all and no smudging and so forth, but I am not sure if there is any other way to tell. There are stickers on them marked with what appears to be a manufacturing date or something - they are marked Nov. 2011, so perhaps that means refurb? Dunno. Anyways, good product at a steal of a price.

So I must confess to being a bit stumped as to why someone would WC the CPU and Chipset on one of these things that's clearly intended to be loaded down with GPUs and hence unlikely to be overclocked/need cooling on the CPU and chipset. Might be somewhat interested if you wanted to ship to KS.
It was built before I had discovered mining, and was intended to be a benchmark buster with Quadro cards and all that. I am building mining rigs now, and on those I am definitely aiming for a low cost everything (except PSU and cards of course). I could possibly ship it to you, but I would need to tear it down and probably send the bits and bobs in more than one box (as well as emptying out all the coolant and so forth).

Dammit, looks like I am the only guy living in Ohio that needs a fast rig. Starting point for negotiations lets say $800? Make your offers...

Hello, to add some math to this disscussion i would like to advertise my new "Bitcoin mine or invest spreadsheet & mining rig comparison spreadsheet"https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=56475.new#newPlease use it to find your very own answer about how your minig rig will perform. I hope it is helpfull to you all ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) For simpler profitability calculations, my favorite calculator is http://bitcoinma.appspot.com/, coded by nmat. Works like a champ.

I will give you 3BTC to tear out each and every page one-by-one, tape them together using a suit pattern, wear the suit, take pictures of yourself dousing your new merry suit in gasoline, then setting it on fire while shrieking.
Your video will go viral on youtube. In fact, it's a good concept for an on-going channel where you find new and creative ways to destroy books.
"Bad Book Burner"
good idea is good idea +1, I would watch

That's a good point. I never understood why Mt. Gox did that. They have a seperate configuration for logging in and withdrawing funds. I don't know how splitting them up makes it any safer and I don't know why they couldn't just go with a generic yubikey.
This is because it is possible to generate more than one OTP at a time, and record them - they are still valid since there is no time factor as in OATH-TOTP. So, you could theoretically record the next 10 keys and type them manually in sequence as needed. The reason for a separate step would be to foil an attacker that got a list of these keys, or perhaps one that convinced a user to give them an OTP - the attacker might be able to login and trade, but he wouldn't be able to withdraw.

Bump, any offers? I would prefer pickup, I'm not sure how well it would ship, seeing as its full of water and stuff.

This board actually supports 2, 3 & 4 way crossfire in x16 x8 x8 x8 (same as the Asus Supercomputer), I own one ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . You would be correct in saying Lucid does not support 3 way SLI. As far as Asus goes, yea they make good boards too. As far as the Supercomputer board goes, great board if you want a 1366 CPU. Many of the reviews are poor because people never updated their BIOS and there were problems with the first release. Combo is $475 OBO ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) OK, my quip about "quite a bit better" was based on the (mis?)information about all but 2 of the slots being x1 on your board. And yes, 1366 is getting long in the tooth, but still works well.

Buyers also take note, only Yubikeys issued by MtGox will work there - these won't. However, these are still full of win - I have a whole keychain of them =D My favorite use for them is with LastPass. Works great.

I guess if people are buying 10 singles and hand them 5k the BFL Labs people might find a fool willing to buy the rig box as well for 25k. Then they can happily disappear like many others before.
Or, they might even deliver something awesome. Hell, you never really know at this point.

Releasing a GCN-optimized miner would be a HUGE mistake.

Lets pull some bank records then, you think any exchange is going to say no to a court order?
court order

Do eet. C'mon, you know you want to.

This is a misunderstanding. Because of the dispute, the funds will be held for 180 days from the transaction (unless shakaru decides to do better than that). If you wish, you (astana) may select some reputable person/business to hold the funds until then.
I thought they were cryo frozen rock solid with helium by PayPal?

Asus super computer is the way to go. Better manufacturer, chipset, and all the slots are 16x.
Uh, no - I have one. There a 7x x16 physical size slots, but not all of them are x16 electrical. However, I do agree that it is quite a bit better - none of the slots are less than x8 (I believe, perhaps x4).

I'm not sure when "toms hardware" became an authority on bitcoin mining but the fact is a 5870 gets 440 mhash easily, consumes much less wattage than a 7970 and cost about $150
Only if you buy it used and overclock the shit out of it. He is talking about stock numbers here.
