5741  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What's stopping companies making an actual space heater bitcoin miner for home? on: June 02, 2022, 05:56:47 PM
I think the problem for me would be what do you do with your space heater once it becomes worthless for mining?  With graphics cards you have a strong market of computer users and gamers that will buy pretty much any GPU you can find, so there's always another angle at resale.  I doubt you'd be able to find someone willing to pay for a subpar space heater that doubles as a non-profitable mining device.

So to answer your question I would say that competition from GPUs is a good reason why a Bitcoin mining space heater would never work.  It would be a very small use case for someone who would want one of them.  Maybe people with free electricity that live somewhere cold and don't own a computer?  I'm guessing that's a pretty limited market for a Bitcoin space heater miner (what Bitcoiner doesn't own a computer?).
5742  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [FREE RAFFLE] Bitcoin Shirt 'Bitcoin - fuck inflation' on: June 02, 2022, 05:49:56 PM
OgNasty - 8

Thanks for putting on this free raffle.  Gotta love free stuff right.  I also wasn't familiar with this shirt, but am very familiar with the feeling...  Fuck inflation!

I like the old english lettering as well.  Gives it a real OG feeling to it.

I must say that there's no possible way I could fit into a Medium, but this would make a truly great gift for me to give someone and that's the best prize I could think to win here.  So thanks again and good luck to all the participants!
5743  Other / Meta / Re: [Statistics] OgNasty's Merit Faucet on: June 02, 2022, 05:24:46 PM
Honestly, OgNasty has made some good initiatives to educate people about Bitcoin. This way, he truly is a Bitcoiner.

I don't think it was ever a debate as to whether I was a Bitcoiner or not, but I appreciate the sentiment.  I've done a lot for users of this forum and for Bitcoin over the years (now measured in decades), so it's nice when someone picks up on a tiny thing I've done to try and help out and gives me my flowers while I can still smell them.

However, I think that in the end, when everything was looked at, it was more useful than harmful - looking at the list, I noticed at least a dozen members who became valuable members of the forum.
Exactly. Even if some tried to abuse it or succeeded doing so, I would rather look at the positive side and on those who are today contributing forum members and maybe became such because of the positive experience they had with OgNasty.

So many people here focus on the negative.  They try to drag down as many people as they can with negative feedback and are even proud of the negativity they spread.  I have always chosen the opposite, and gone with positivity (except to defend myself from those casting provable lies my direction).  At some point when you've been here for long enough, you figure out that you can only elevate the good, not lower the bad.

3) I did not personally checked the signatures of the participants of the merit faucet, so this small study would not be very accurate to know the percentage of people who managed to sign a message correctly. Notheless, if we assume those merited by OgNasty were the only ones which managed to do so this percentage would be as well about 53%, but clearly some cheaters may have signed correctly without receiving the reward.

I did check all of the signatures and also took a quick glance at the user's posting history to try and determine if they were a legitimate poster or not.  Many of those who did not receive merit were able to sign messages correctly, but it was blatantly obvious that they were alt accounts spamming for money so they did not receive any merit.

My conclusion from reading this thread...  LOL
People here like stats more than good deeds.  I've been working on that merit thread doing good for approaching 3 years now and it received less merit than this thread has in under a week...  A perfect showcasing as to why this forum has more people creating statistics than those actually creating use cases for Bitcoin and helping members of this community succeed with their projects...   Please do better.  If you merited this thread and not mine, you are the problem here (both threads deserve it, TBH).  Please don't take this as me caring about merit either.  I don't care if you never send me any.  Just pointing out a hilarious observation.
5744  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Good plan? on: June 02, 2022, 05:05:15 PM
Does it make sense to sell 40% of your mining rigs and keep the money for direct crypto investment and continue mining with the 60% left? How good or bad is this plan? also, It looks like miners are staying stronger this period, I expect many to have left mining but difficulty still remains very high.

A lot of things make sense or don't make sense based on your own personal situation.  Did you buy the rigs using BTC when the price was at $60K?  If so, selling the rigs off for more BTC now would be a smart move.  Are you having problems cooling those rigs during the summer?  Are you forced to sell at low prices to pay for electricity?  Do you have strong conviction in another asset you want to purchase and need to raise funds for it?

There are always so many variables...  Consider everything and do what's best for your own situation.

Looking for the 2013 BitcoinNerd "genesis block" 1g silver round commemorative tokens from this 2014 thread:

[SOLD OUT] 1g Silver Round "The Genesis Block" by BitcoinNerd - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=258630.0

Willing to buy or trade. Please post here or PM me if you have any and willing to do a deal! Thanks~

I've got a couple of my 1g coins left, which were also created by DobZombie (same maker as the coin sought above).  I see these coins selling for enormous markups on eBay, so they've become a bit of a sought after item.  Anyway, good luck with getting your coins and if you haven't already, try reaching out to DobZombie as he does pop his head back in here every couple of years to see how the community is going.

5746  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA Finals 2022 - Warriors vs Celtics. on: June 02, 2022, 04:51:34 PM
@ChiBitCTy  This is ridiculous.  Cheesy  I don't know what ESPN are up to by sharing a statistics like this. I know one thing and it is that none of the finalist teams have a very big superiority to the other one. These teams both have had an incredible season so far and this was one of the best finals I imagined too. I'm happy to see them here as a result. As for the team I'm favouring, I can say that it is Celtics now. I like Warriors too normally but in this case I feel myself closer to Celtics. I believe in them to make it to the championship after a tough run.

Lol I honestly don't know how you could even come up with such a ridiculous number.  I understand if you want to make fake sports arguments kind of like how Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless do all the time, but this is simply ridiculous.  While I agree with you that the favored team either way should not be such a wide margin, I am going with the Warriors.  Most outlets like Vegas have the Warriors favorited.  I do hope that it's at least a really good series, but I just don't see them stopping Curry and Klay.

They must have done a poll on the streets in Boston or something.  There's no way people could actually believe the Celtics are that likely to win against a team with a core that had the best record in the NBA and a legitimate dynasty before a few injuries, that allowed them to tank and pick up even more talent in Wiggins.  Sure, the Celtics might have more to prove and they're a bigger and stronger team...but...Steph Curry is the greatest 3 point shooter of all time in a league where 3 pointers determine the winner.  I think the Celtics have their hands full...
5747  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake.com - The Leading Crypto Casino - 🦉 Drake, UFC, Watford Main Partner ⚽ 🥊 on: June 02, 2022, 12:13:38 AM
Any word on the new weekly bonus calculation?

My weekly was smaller than the week before even though I wagered more, only made sports bets (which is supposed to pay more now) and had overall loss.

Anybody with the same experience? I'm a little bit confused since it was supposed to pay more for sports betting players like me now.

They seem to be raising the amounts they give away and pay their users as fast as they can keep up with doing.  I'm sure the bonuses will arrive.  I think we're well within the patience zone still.  I've been really happy with all the new things coming out of Stake lately.  They've been on fire.  I can't imagine that's easy to keep up with on their end of things.
5748  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for June on: June 01, 2022, 07:31:38 PM
We do seem to be at a bit of an impasse.  Do we turn the corner and start heading upward to retest the highs at $69K, or do we slide below resistance levels and retest the support in the $10K range.  I sure hope we go up, but I'd urge people to be just as prepared for a $10K Bitcoin as they are for a $70K Bitcoin, otherwise it might be a rough couple of years for you.  Given that a recession is bearing down on us with increasing speed, and I'd urge people to make sure they are going to be able to keep a roof over their head for 2-3 years before dumping money into crypto at this point in the cycle.
5749  Other / Meta / Re: Top Answer Feature on Beginners and Help Board on: June 01, 2022, 07:25:34 PM
The other option is to have a community based voting system, but that probably isn't perfect, and has room for abuse or misuse, since not everyone will agree on the solution to the question. Even when there's a rather narrow scope for the answer, you might only get partial information from one user, and then another one expands onto the point. So, either way probably isn't a perfect system.

Community based anything here is likely to not work due to the manipulation of community members and the urge to create multiple accounts to have an oversized influence on whatever the issue is.  Just look at the DT network.  It's more of a fear based system to get in line with the manipulators or face continued attacks via having trust inclusions removed or being outright distrusted for not going along with empowering manipulators.  I can only imagine how if left up to the community this would become yet another way they attack users.  The "community" here is really a much smaller number than most think with a lot more alts than most believe could be true.
5750  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Education as the bed rock of a country on: June 01, 2022, 07:20:18 PM
In the United States, our education system is in big trouble.  The woke virus is making it so science teachers can't even have a legitimate lesson on the scientific differences in genders without having parents come and yell at them or force the removal of this curriculum.  I honestly don't know what's going on in society that simple things like male or female aren't even common sense and aren't allowed to even be taught.  I knew I was supposed to use the boys restroom by the time I was in kindergarten but now suddenly there are grown adults that think this is a preference.  I fear for society in another 25 years when these kids start getting into positions where they're making decisions for their communities.
5751  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Multisig with Time Lock? on: June 01, 2022, 07:07:19 PM
I know this was a joke but that might be a good solution Cheesy Making it inconvenient enough not to panic when times are hard but still being able to access it if needed.

This is why a lot of the collectors in the collectibles community managed to find themselves suddenly wealthy.  A lot of folks didn't want to part with their Casascius coins or other loaded memorabilia until it was life changing for them to do so.  I've seen many people say that they would have been better off buying BTC instead of a loaded collectible, but those that did mostly sold off their BTC on the way up.  Don't discount using your emotions against you to reach your goal.  Emotions are a powerful tool.  Learn to harness them.
5752  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA Finals 2022 - Warriors vs Celtics. on: June 01, 2022, 07:03:03 PM
Lets discuss game 1.

Current point spread now is -3.5 for the Warriors, they are playing at home and have never lost a single game. I think it's an easy call, even if they are the public play, I still think they'll win this game.

Also, the total is only 211, over is easy here, hopefully not a trap.

It should be an easy win by the goldenstate Warriors at home but Boston Celitcs have already won several times at away games in the playoff series so i wouldnt be surprised much if they won again.
This is game 1, Celtics has not won a game 1 on the road IIRC, and the Warriors has never lost a game at home.
I will stick with what I believe, I understand that Celtics are a good team but I'd go with the trend until it gets broken.
Plus Celtics are 2 games more tired, and they will play so quickly whereas Warriors are resting. I have to say, it's clear to me that we are talking about Warriors here, they have been great before KD and did great this year again. I am quite happy to see them do great this year as well and I am not seeing them losing this series as a whole, let alone the first game.

However, if there is ANY team in the league right now that could stop them, it's the celtics. Who are the great players in Warriors? The shooters, who are the great defenders of Celtics? The guards. It's clear to me that Celtics will be defending like hell and will not make it easy.

Celtics are not gonna slow down the shooters of the Warriors, if they are good defensive, it's impossible they can stop everyone. They cannot even stop Butler which is the only pure shooter of the team, how much more the Warriors who are moving the ball very well and they have a lot of  shooters that could spread the floor.

I agree, yes the Celtics is a defensive team but they cannot just limit and slow down the shooting average of the shooters of the Warriors. Well, it's not that I'm saying that they cannot do it at all, what I mean is sure they can limit some of the key players but the problem is that almost all of the starting players of the Warriors can shoot everywhere in the court even long deep threes. Now, how can they stop that?

I don't really think the Celtics can stop the Warriors.  They may have a size advantage that they'll be able to exploit in the key, but I don't see how their defense can keep up with the shooters on Golden State.  Is Marcus Smart supposed to chase Curry around all game?  I think the Celtics will be forced to play the Warriors game, and they won't be able to beat them at their own game.  Unless Tatum has a lucky shooting night from three point range, I don't see how the Celtics are going to keep up with the Warriors offense.  We'll see tomorrow.  Excited it's almost time for the NBA Finals!
5753  Economy / Economics / Re: Why the Fed wants corporate America to have a hiring freeze on: June 01, 2022, 05:58:44 PM
The people running the Fed have done so from ivory towers for so long they have no idea what they’re doing. They didn’t see inflation coming when every other person in the world knew it was obvious. They couldn’t talk down the problem and they can’t print us out of this mess. That leaves them with the only thing they’ve seen crash prices in the past, a recession. They’re going to do everything they can to send us into a recession now to fight the problems their incompetence caused. Guess who that’s going to hurt? Buckle up…
5754  Other / Meta / Re: Top Answer Feature on Beginners and Help Board on: May 31, 2022, 08:04:18 PM
I think it’s a great idea but likely hard to implement. I don’t think using merit as the sorting method would be the best way to do it as others have stated.

A simple way to implement something like this might be to give the OP the ability to pin a reply as the first response so that they can select the response they felt best helped them. This could also lead to cool other uses to make threads more entertaining.
5755  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NFT slot Machine !! on: May 31, 2022, 08:01:32 PM
That is an interesting concept. I haven’t heard of this specific utility for an NFT before, but it seems great. I could see these being popular among members and casinos looking to reward their users with something special. Nice find. I can’t say I’ll be participating but it’s always nice to learn of a new use case.
5756  Economy / Collectibles / Re: BEWARE of FAKE CASASCIUS COINS on: May 31, 2022, 07:59:05 PM
Wouldn't the first bits give it away. If it wasnt funded in 2012 dont do it.

For experts these aren’t going to work. Non-experts, you could just copy first bits of active coins.

I’m betting that grading services would even be willing to grade them without a care in the world if the hologram is authentic or not. Someone should try and see what happens. Again, I think most people would be able to tell if it is real after doing some comparisons, but casuals at Bitcoin events with too much money could be easily fooled. If anyone comes across these in real life, make sure to share pics with the rest of us.
5757  Economy / Collectibles / Re: BEWARE of FAKE CASASCIUS COINS on: May 31, 2022, 04:50:35 PM
Fake Casascius hologram being offered/sold..

Super cheap also...  Definitely cause for concern for folks buying these coins.  Granted, it looks as though these would be easily spotted as being fake by someone who is familiar with them, I'm sure there are going to be people who lose a lot of money as a result of their existence.  Sad.  This is also the reason why I charge such a high premium for mine that I sell.  At least the buyer can know they're legitimate and have been held in a collection for close to a decade.  Be careful out there.  In this field there are more people trying to steal from you than there are people looking out for you.
5758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Halving on: May 31, 2022, 04:41:18 PM
Has the next bitcoin halving have to be close to 4 yrs or it could skip 4 yr cycle to any other number. Is that mathematically possible  ?

Is it mathematically possible for such a bad luck streak that the having takes 8 years instead of 4?  Sure.  Is it realistically possible?  No.  Maybe some sort of solar flare taking out the electronics on earth could put blocks on hold, or maybe the government bans Bitcoin and ISPs shut down all crypto activity on their networks.  That might cause a delay in solving blocks until a solution could be widespread.  If any of these things happen though, Bitcoin would probably be worthless, so you'd have other things to worry about.
5759  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 31, 2022, 04:38:28 PM
Seems like we got a little bounce and now everyone is bullish again.  The reactionary emotions in this market are interesting to say the least.  If you are being affected by such small market movements then you have way too much money invested in crypto.  I remember when people got excited by 500% moves, not 5%.  Still, I'm happy that we didn't see the ultimate plunge yet, but I'm a bit concerned by all the bullishness given how much bearish fundamental overhang is on the overall crypto market right now.  I'd be careful until some of that leverage goes away if you're overinvested.
5760  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your NBA Champion this season? on: May 31, 2022, 04:21:03 PM
I don’t think it will be as close as some others seem to think. The Warriors have so much Finals experience, I expect them to dominate the first two games and then maybe lose one in Boston. Warriors in 5. We’ll get our first look in just two more days! Exciting.
