581  Economy / Speculation / Re: snapchat value > bitcoin cap, twitter value X 5 times bitcoin cap on: November 08, 2013, 04:16:14 AM
lmao, remind anyone of the dot come bubble?

That said, shut up and take my money.

EDIT: How in God's name could snapchat (Was it snapchat?) be worth anywhere near that? The only way I can see them ever making money is by advertising on phones, and while teens are snapchatting fap pictures back and forth, I don't think they'll be focusing on the ads being displayed. When there is a pic of your cheerleader classmate banging herself silly and you only have 10 seconds to memorize that image or find a way to take a screenshot without them knowing - IS ANYONE GOING TO LOOK AT THE DAMN AD BAR? NO!!!! I'd doubt if the entire network over years would net 3.6 billion to the advertisers. Sure it's a popular app with a lot of downloads, but it'd take quite some time to show a legit valuation of any number of billions, and this type of stuff is as fad-ish as it comes. It'll be dead in 2 years, replaced by some other "cool" app.

Their best chance of earning that type of money would be to put a wallet stealer in the app... wait... said too much already. Don't want to give them any ideas.

Worse still, how on earth I am going to believe it's "burn after reading" after seeing an ad that's specifically targeted at me based on what  I am receiving daily?

Litecoin is doing great. Devs are very active and have a good working relationship with the Bitcoin devs. Litecoin adoption is slowly but steady increasing. It will have its moment of fame.

I really don't understand  the demand for litecoin. What does it offer? I can kind of/sort of understand ppc, but l see no competitive advantage with litecoin. And it has the automatic negative of not being first mover, which is huge.

These days I don't really trade BTC anymore, there's too much sentiment value I attach to this thing, so I just trade LTC instead.

I'm sorry but how do we know this is not a HLS/FBI honey pot?

A real functioning anonymous black market could not have you caught even if  it is a honeypot.

$320....I vaguely remember there was a time when Bitcoin was $32, and many people thought it was overvalued afterwards and cannot happen again....must be like ages ago.

I wonder if Gox will need a "market cooldown" this time. Roll Eyes

Cypherdoc used to talk about adoption driven by price rise, now with the price rising, I am starting to see how this could make sense, in a new way.

I am inspired by the Oz Tomcar company which recently started accepting Bitcoin, the reasoning being: a lot of merchants will conclude from the price performance of Bitcoin, that there must be quite a few people getting rich with their Bitcoins out there, and want to cater to their needs(even one single order could be big for them!), this, combined with the fact that the setting up for accepting Bitcoin costs only trivially, and the potential publicity brought by such a move, could motivate lots of merchants to jump in the bandwagon.

Bought big today.
Welcome back, old friend. I read your Reddit AMA as well.

I kept looking for him a bit. Grin

It is funny that we can now move up more than the height of the 2011 peak in just one day.
590  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: November 07, 2013, 07:08:25 AM
I will always put some money into LTC just to keep it afloat.

You can't exchange BTC for fiats without giving out your identities, and nobody will exchange BTC for BTC, but exchanging a crypto for another is an entirely plausible defense for putting your BTC into a "mixing" wallet.
591  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 07, 2013, 06:41:38 AM
At what point do the gox fiat holders freak out at the diminishing bitcoin orderbook and just panic buy to get out? Time to put some gas on this fire.
Bitstamp is even worse in terms of BTC available for purchase.

If the increasing prices don't lure some more coins onto the orderbook soon it's going to get very interesting.

Don't worry, BTCs will come in, miners have to pay their bills after all.

Who wants to make 80 million dollars in just 3 years? I doubt there will be many.
593  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013 - 11 - 05 Wired: The Rise and Fall of the World’s Largest Bitcoin Exchange on: November 07, 2013, 04:33:29 AM
I somehow feel that, Mark, being a geek, may not be terribly interested in becoming a wealthy elite of some sort, after all, had Gox being shut down by now he would still have had enough money to pass the rest of his life comfortably, so he may not feel too bad about other exchanges overtaking him and in the opposite, he may even think decentralization through slackness not too bad an idea.
594  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013 - 11 - 05 Wired: The Rise and Fall of the World’s Largest Bitcoin Exchange on: November 07, 2013, 04:30:14 AM
I disapprove of many of mtgox's recent policies+actions, but Wired's attempt to make it personal on Mark is just shameful.

Apparently some people just can't cope with a successful geeky person who doesn't work for more-successful non-geeky person.  But I wouldn't have expected such people at Wired.

I guess they are just trying to parody themselves.

"Whee, Bitcoin broke ATH again! Being a tech journal we have to write an article, anyone have any idea? A parody of our own article? Sounds about right, now Bitcoin isn't falling, but one big exchange appears to be, OK, it's done!"
595  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 07, 2013, 03:53:23 AM
What about CampBX? Do they not look legitimate? Their price has been low, and liquidity pretty small, I even wonder how/why are they continuing this business, it doesn't seem profitable at all.
596  Economy / Speculation / Re: 20 articles on 'Bitcoin is broken', researchers warn' doesn;t move price? why? on: November 07, 2013, 03:25:44 AM
According to what I have collected, the article seems to be based on an assumption of Satoshi's assumption, while the assumed assumption is actually Satoshi's conclusion, that the network is safe as long as there are more honest miners than dishonest ones, yet this is not something assumed to be known to a miner in Satoshi's paper, which is the case in this article.
597  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 07, 2013, 02:42:54 AM
this 266.9 whale gotta be a bit of a joker selling just above april's ath

probably got burnt then and made a vow to not sell until price is at least as high. now he's just making sure he doesn't get burnt again, but I would say he's being too careful considering other exchanges are now even higher

oh shit just as i was writing this i had a thought: he could be one of the Cypriots that caused the price to skyrocket in april, maybe he bought in at like 260 and now he just wants his money back

How do you know it's not Gox?

A bit of a suggestion: when you want to withdraw your BTCs from Gox, click "Open Transactions" and "pay 0.001 BTC fee" at the same time to increase your chance of success.
600  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bear appreciation thread!! on: November 07, 2013, 02:03:42 AM
I was just learned that Bitcoin isn't a ponzi  - which is huge as I think it carries some similarities.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7u4F8cpzqao
The beauty of the discovery presents market fluctuations and the equivalent crash as a run on the bank, typical of free banking at the turn of the century.

So when the price crashes, it is nothing more than speculators losing confidence and the resulting a run on the bank.

The June 2011 Bitcoin bank run nearly bankrupted the Bitcoin community, but with every bank run, the Bitcoin community gets stronger and more resilient. The last didn't even come close to bankruptcy.
I was just informed that Bitcoin isent a ponzi

Why in the world did you think Bitcoin price should not fluctuate wildly? Obviously it can't just go up like a exponential function. I mean if, let's say the stock of Google were not given any price tag at its IPO, and were sold to anyone who made the highest bid, however much that is, even if it's zero, its price would have followed pretty much the same trajectory as Bitcoin, but can we call such a stock a Ponzi simply because its price goes up millions of times in a short time frame? Hell no.

The price history of Bitcoin is simply a reflection of a fact: nothing in the human history, has been traded in this way and has had its whole price history documented.
