FYI I'll be doing a review of batch 2, should be just a few weeks now.

Turns out the VX450s only have 400W of power on the 12V rail, such that the addition of the controller would put them over the max. Its also not great beacuse it puts 350W through one PCI-E cable which is putting the cable way over spec.
5804  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio - Shipping from stock on: May 24, 2014, 06:43:15 PM
I bit and ordered a unit last Monday just to see what all the hype was about, and so far I've had issue after issue. Unless BTC goes way up, I'm almost positive this is going to be a money loser. Super...

Normally I pay for miners using BTC, but this time I decided to pay using bank transfer because I was running low on BTC. The Monday payment didn't clear until Wednesday, so the unit didn't ship until Wednesday evening. I wasn't aware that bank transfers were so slow, but that's the last time I pay for a miner that ships "immediately" using bank transfer. Chalk one up to BTC, but it sucks to wait on a slow bank transfer to go through (minus two mining days).

Also, I paid $2900 for my unit, and the price dropped to $2795 plus shipping before my unit even shipped. Add $193 for shipping, and minus 10% using a coupon, and the price comes to $2700. That means I paid $200 more for a unit that didn't even ship until after the price drop.

Also, my unit was supposed to be delivered on Friday morning, but it either got delayed by customs or FedEx sucks, so it's sitting on a loading dock and won't move again until after Memorial Day on Tuesday. I called Fedex and they told me that there is no way I can even pick the unit up before Tuesday. It would have been delivered on Saturday, but Spondoolies didn't pay for Saturday delivery, so that's a loss of another 3-4 mining days.

The difficulty also just went up 18% because it looks like the market is being flooded with AsicMiner Gen3 chips.

This is really screwing up what is otherwise a great Memorial Day weekend.

1) They didn't ship until you paid, that's not their fault.
2) They lowered the price before shipping, tell them and they'll refund it, they're nice people.
3) That's Fedex's fault. You can call them and pay to upgrade to Saturday delivery, it'll cost less than 3 mining days.

Yes, that is the quote i got just this morning. However, i told them i would deploy multiple kW, i donīt know how many ants you have with them.

The way you are describing it is, they need you to pay VAT but you will get reimbursed after 2 months?
So basically you donīt pay VAT? Just give a two-month interest-free loan?

If they're reclaiming the VAT and 'being' the importer, they'll have to pay it upfront and reclaim it from the government every quarter. They're asking for you to cover that 0-4 month delay.

And in my sig. That one will get renovated some time in the next 20 days.

Next gen ST = close to 70x the density though Wink (and also 50-70th of the $/GH)

How did you get 70x?

Think of the footprint and hash rate of a fully populated M-H board setup. Compare that with a SP30. Mucho density.

Have you seen the bf3500? Apparently can hold up to 2880 bitfury chips (11th/s) in a 6u case.

Yeah its insane, will have a review on it next week. Density is only about 3-4x higher than that and 6 weeks later.
5808  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: I need help with anminer s1 setup. on: May 24, 2014, 02:16:45 PM
hello bitcointalk.org! my name is Alex. I have an antminer s1 and I have problems setting it up.
I have followed dogie`s  setup tutorial and after I started the anminer I could not make him connect to the net... after that I made a change, this one:(7.(optional) Change protocol to DCHP client. Save and apply.) after this one I can not connect to the antminer at all. please let me know what should I do to fix this problem. thank you in advance!

Post in my thread, but the answer is also in the guide. You need to go back to your router, look for a list of devices and see what IP the antminer was assigned. Then navigate to that IP. Its currently sitting there waiting for you.

mehh, i cant find on the internet more cables to plug a second S1 on the same PSU (seasonic X-750 gold) as I'm already using both provided PCI-e 6pins//8pins for the first S1 Huh any idea on how to do it? or should i just go buy another PSU?
I have extra cables from a seasonic x-750   send me a pm

bought another PSU. but thx for the offer. really kuul those bitcoin guys Smiley
Glad you got sorted out!
5811  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: btcgarden-AM-v1 miner is coming! on: May 24, 2014, 09:18:24 AM
Much too little, way too late.

Sad.

I think most everyone had high hopes for the Gen 3 AM chips. What happened to the supposed awesome power efficiency? Are these being overclocked too hard and destroying efficiency because they're trying to save money by not using more chips?

You just come out of hibernation? Its been more than a month since we got the news AM chips came in underspec. (still equal spec with the competition)

However the price of AM powered machines beat everything else on the market.

Quote
asicminer shareholders are one ballsy lot, i gotta give it to them... this is zero sum game only beneficial to friedcat who actually did an excellent job tricking all those bagholders into buying his shares and overpriced gear in the past... well done master well done..

You mean friedcat, the guy who gave his shareholders 5 times what they paid in dividends (and another 5 times share value) for a total of 1000% ROI? Seriously what a dick.

I haven't been in hibernation. No one from AM is active in the Hardware subforum and I have no interest in reading the Securities subforum.

I think you're the one who is clueless about the current hardware market. BitMain is the price leader and Spondoolies is the efficiency leader. AM is neither.

Bitmain is not the price leader nor is spondoolies the efficiency leader.

Bitmain s1 at 200gh is $1.3/gh where as hashratio (using AM chips) is as low as $1/gh for twice as efficient miners. Btcgarden is about $1.55/gh with psu.

Also bitfury gen1 is as low as 0.38w/gh chip level which is about equal to spondoolies next gen estimates.

Next gen ST = close to 70x the density though Wink (and also 50-70th of the $/GH)
5812  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: btcgarden-AM-v1 miner is coming! on: May 24, 2014, 08:43:26 AM
AM 40nm offer only ~0,7W/GH at chip level, when clocking slowly.

According to FC the chip is 0.5-0.7w/gh at 7-11gh/s.

Only chip that beats it significantly in efficiency is bitfury at 1gh/chip.

Where is the proof of that? I know only of one single chip measurement from rockxie. Nothing from FC.

Again numbers out of nowhere. Chip consumption means absolutely nothing if miner consumption is higher than 1.1w/GH/s.

Numbers were from testing done by FC and relayed by jutarul.

What makes you think these chips cannot be underclocked/undervolted for increased efficiency?

And since when is 1.1w/gh bad?

I guess its relatively 'bad' for a new chip, because it will have to compete with those same specs for at least another 14 weeks.
5813  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive KNCMiner Saturn/Jupiter Setup on: May 23, 2014, 02:51:40 PM
Hello,

I want to use two 450W PSU (Corsair VS450) as here where I live is cheaper and easier to buy two of these than one of 850W.

This would mean I will use two PCI-E from each PSU to power two hashing boards on the rig, plus I would have to power the control board from one of the PSU. Does anyone know how much power does the control board draw? Should I care that I will have an imbalanced power usage from each PSU?

Thanks in advance,

Each hashing board is electrically separate so no problems using 2 PSUs. The control board will use somewhere between 10 and 30W, not much at all.

But then again Blizzard is a huge company and gives Google lots of business.

I don't think you understand what Google does as a company.
5815  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Antminer S1 100GH and Avalon2 100GH [0.45] on: May 23, 2014, 12:44:25 PM
Shipping from the UK.

1x Antminer S1 'half', 80-100GH, one of the first units in the world. Only has one mining module and screw terminal.
1x Avalon Avalon2 module, 100GH.

Asking 0.45BTC for both, including VAT (for the UK and EU) and shipping (for the UK).

No, that is super super max. Click on each of the presets then advanced and take a look at what each of those modes tries to set for an idea of what is going on.

that's "super super max." is what I am trying to point out. SP's document states "Default = 790mv" which I believe is incorrect. It should read Default =  683mv.

Please correct me if I am wrong Smiley

Cheers,
QG

This is the maximal voltage that the miner is *allowed* to reach in its dynamic scaling. Setting to 790mv is practically unlimited, it will stop somewhere between 670 and 710. depending on the temperature and the corner of the ASICs. If you want to make the miner more efficient (but less productive) you can set it to 660, 640 or even 600. I would not go under 580mv - some ASICs start to fail unless if you got a fast corner (but we were not lucky with our ASIC corners lately - only first batch can handle 550mv).
So far best configuration for first batch (April) is start-voltage:660, max-voltage:790, for second batch (early May) start-voltage:680, max-voltage:790.
I am working on making the scaling efficient on our latest batch (late May), hope to have results after the weekend.

What causes the variation between batches?

SP: I noticed that on the http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/blogs/technical-blog/14123781-over-clocking-and-configuring-fan-speed-on-sp10 technical blog post the following is stated:

Max voltage: 555mv to 790mv.  Default: 790mv.

Please confirm if 790mv. is the Default value. I have yet to OC my SP10s but already noticed that my Max voltage is only set to 0.683v. Isn't this the default value? and that setting it to 790mv is actually the OC value?

Cheers,
QG

When ambient is at an acceptable temperature, you just need ventilation. It doesn't matter how much heat you put into the air if you can simply substitute that air with ambient temp air.

You think if even is +40C?
Yep.

It doesn't matter how fast you wee into a cup, if I keep replacing your cup with an empty cup, you'll never fill it.

not quite a correct analogy.

Ventilation does not prevent turbulence. Air can be travel inefficiently that hot air got suck back into the miner .
You need to build a ducting system right at the rack. Thats the only way to control direction of air. Remember folks, you need ventilation and air direction control to be effective.

You don't if you have floor to ceiling double ended ventilation. Ie a door on one side and a door on the other....

Right, you expect the room layout to work with you. Stop making empty suggestion like this pls.

Build a ducting system from the rack to wherever the vent is.

Or, or, or, maybe this... don't put a mining farm in a room ill equipped for mining.

I choose my flats almost solely based on their suitability to mining and cooling. Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance!

I have my miners in my garage and this will be the first hot weekend of the summer. I'm hoping that by opening my garage door a few times a day I can recycle the air. Its north facing and thats where the cool wind comes from. If that doesnt work I have a 12000 BTC portable AC unit ready to go. Would rather not use it though.

Exactly! For the vast majority of the year I cool my miners passively, with 0W. In the summer I simply add a 60W fan to help aid the ventilation to ambient. Its 40x more efficient than using AC.
