Not sure why Bruce chose to post in this thread, but the forum promotion is over!  153 non-SgtSpike posts were made during August, so those will be the entries.

5982  Economy / Goods / Re: USER: THYDUDE IS IN THE HOSPITAL. on: September 02, 2011, 12:22:50 AM
I was very suspicious seeing 2/3 threads on the front page for 100+ items. After this thread seeing he recently joined the forum made it more suspicious.

not to mention he admitted to being in legal trouble for criminal damage to property and that apparently was a reason he didn't want his handwriting shown in a picture next to the products.  he feared he could get into more legal trouble.  This is weird in an of itself, but I actually suspect he made that whole part up as well as a really lame reason why he couldn't show his handwriting next to the product.

More and more we see he is very untrustworthy. This should be a good example so people don't get scammed. This should just detour people from buying stuff on a whim.
Consider me deterred.  :\

Pearikay, a laptop for 27 BTC.

I'm still not 100% convinced that it is a scam.  It sure looks like it at this point, but if it is, he's a really dang good liar based on his posting history.  None of it looks scammish at all.  And as haploid pointed out, why even make a thread like this if he's just going to disappear anyway?

Still holding out hope that I didn't get scammed, but I'll probably have to kiss those coins goodbye.  Sad

I thought he's a bad liar...my gut reaction before ANYone said anything about a potential scam was that it was a scam.

Come on, what newb to the forum would come and try to sell $3000 worth of equipment spanning multiple threads in a matter of hours?
Well, guess I didn't do my due diligence research then.  I wasn't looking at what else was for sale.

Also, some credit cards tack on huge fees if you are missing the billing address and/or the security code when you run the card.  Like in amounts of $5.00 or so per transaction.

I have removed the status a couple of times after the users paid back their victims.

If I am dealing with someone I would like to know their history if possible If someone tried to scam someone they are a scammer, regardless if they got caught or not. Just because they paid back what they stole does not make them an angel.
Sometimes though, it's just a misunderstanding or non-preventable circumstance (like a family emergency).  If the person gets back on, and says "sorry, my wife died 2 days ago so I put shipping out your item on the back burner," then I'd hate to see them have a scammer "history" because of it.
5987  Other / Meta / Re: Scammer Label on: August 26, 2011, 11:22:21 PM
when someone gets labeled like this on the forum is it for real or what is this?

=========================================

It's when someone is proven to be a scammer.
5988  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Multiple deposits to one Mt. Gox address on: August 26, 2011, 09:36:59 PM
I thought it wouldn't let you send twice to the same address?  I thought there was always a big warning "Do not send anything but this amount to this address," blah blah blah...  maybe I'm remembering a different BTC service though.
5989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Value plummeting??! on: August 26, 2011, 09:35:46 PM
It will drop by $0.50 every day for the next 26 days

In about 16 days bitcoins will have a negative value. The seller will need to bundle bitcoins with fiat money to get rid of then.
Exactly.  Wink
5990  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Value plummeting??! on: August 26, 2011, 09:08:45 PM

5991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Value plummeting??! on: August 26, 2011, 08:49:34 PM

5993  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Public opinion of Bitcoin on: August 26, 2011, 08:08:22 PM
if i mention bitcoins to people, they immediately think i am crazy tinfoil hat or whatever. i dont even bother anymore. 33% of the time, they think its a ponzi scheme, 33% of the time people assume i lost a ton of money in bitcoins (Which is ironic being ive only made pure profit), and the other 33% of the time they're just like "LOLXDWTFBBQM8RLLY?"

So you're saying 1% are interested?! Win.

that 1% is my stale shares  Roll Eyes Shocked Tongue Cheesy
Those are the people who just stare at you blankly without saying a word.  Cheesy

Notice how the only people who have a problem with me banning people are the same people would be the ones catching that ban  Cheesy.

Such a joke.
Kind of like how the only people who had a problem with Nazis killing people were the people being killed.

Ninja
I have the one that I got on Aug. 10.
Then I bought more from my bestbuy contact.
And I got some from eBay just for re-selling purposes
And I have sold many things.
I have sold a EVO 3D & a few laptops.
And Hundreds of Humble Bundles when it was on.

either he's a freshman in highschool or he's hiding something (or maybe english is not their first language). Normal people who do business do not speak with such candor or with such sporadic statements.

also compare his posting style to the posting style of the user who "bought a macbook pro for him and sent first"
 (in this same topic)

Stefanie Andrea
I can vouch for him.
I brought a Macbook Pro from him.
I sent first & I received in about 4 days

how many people type one sentence and then hit enter and then type one more short sentence repeatedly for the whole post... not many. They're the same poster or they happen to think  and talk in exactly the same manner. they both even randomly use the ampersand sign (&) in place of "and" but will type the word "And" if it is the start of a sentence... how many native english speakers do you know that use "&" in the middle of a sentence but start a sentence with the normal word
Good catches.  Also, the "brought" vs "bought" misspelling from both profiles.

I hope, for the sake of the people who have already paid him, that he is not a scammer.  But this sort of stuff is hard to explain...

Yes it is.
5998  Economy / Services / Re: Mining contract - 8,000 MH/s on: August 25, 2011, 11:38:14 PM
What if he wants to mine even if he thinks the price is going to drop?  Why wouldn't he, if he can still make a profit on it (and a larger one if he gets the BTC today, but the price drops before the contract ends)?
If the price goes up, he looses.
If the price stays the same, he looses.
If the price goes down a little, he breaks even.
If the price goes down a lot, then he wins.

If the price is going to go down a lot, he'll make a much bigger profit by selling the hardware now.

There's clearly enough interest in mining contracts, especially moderately priced ones. I don't see the point in selling them at a loss. He could easily sell them for a small profit.
If the price goes down a lot, why would he make a much bigger profit by selling the hardware now, vs selling it in 7 days after the first contract is completed?

Selling now:  $5000 in hardware
Selling in 7 days:  $5000 in hardware + $246.22 in BTC.

I would agree with you that I don't see the point in selling them at a loss, but that's his choice.  He'll still make money on it, and that's all that is important to him.
5999  Economy / Goods / Re: Moving, giving a Lara Croft Guardian of Light and Dirt 2 code for free. on: August 25, 2011, 11:06:35 PM
Thanks.  Wink
6000  Economy / Services / Re: Mining contract - 8,000 MH/s on: August 25, 2011, 10:09:10 PM
No wonder you have a waiting list. You are selling contracts at a loss. Why??? For 30 BTC your farm will generate 33 BTC, since there's virtually zero chance of difficulty changing significantly in the coming week.

Ahhh, but what if the exchange rate is cut in half by next week?

We discussed this earlier in the thread.....pretty straightforward.
You're betting that bitcoins will tank this week? If you're so convinced that the price of bitcoin is going to drop, then why don't you sell your miners? Because if the price of bitcoins go up, this contract is even more of a bad move on your part.
What if he wants to mine even if he thinks the price is going to drop?  Why wouldn't he, if he can still make a profit on it (and a larger one if he gets the BTC today, but the price drops before the contract ends)?
