5981  Economy / Speculation / Re: No Crash Today. Buy your coins back (Holidays started in china) on: January 30, 2014, 05:22:47 PM
Who cares about China. A few months ago I didn't even know that Chinese people had bitcoin. This China effect is so overblown.
5982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I finally figured out how the government can destroy Bitcoin on: January 30, 2014, 05:20:16 PM
The 'Government' (which one exactly?) won't shut it down, the banks will. They'll come up with their own, and force it upon you. McDonalds, Amazon and WalMart will all eagerly back it, and bitcoin will die.
I don't understand. How are they going to force me to use their alt-coin? And why would acceptance by some of the worlds largest companies cause bitcoin to die?
5983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I finally figured out how the government can destroy Bitcoin on: January 30, 2014, 04:31:52 PM
Haha I don't think it would benefit them to destroy Bitcoin what would be the point?
I agree. Assuming you had billions to spend you might  be able to hurt bitcoin. Of course bitcoin 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, etc. will require additional billions. In the end what has been achieved for all this money, and why was it done in the first place?
5984  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I finally figured out how the government can destroy Bitcoin on: January 30, 2014, 04:26:09 PM
Will not work. Will cost billions.

Surely the government will have enough money though they could just print more off.
lol, well they certainly have spent billions on other ill fated projects.

5986  Other / Meta / Re: It's Time For Theymos To Kill The Alt Section on: January 30, 2014, 03:00:19 PM
I think alts are silly, but it's your right to be silly. Maybe the recent posts could exclude posts made in the alt-coin section? It does junk up the forums to sift through pages of really stupid alt-coin announcements. Why not require users to go to that section if they want to read more? I know I don't.
5987  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Mint Adds Bitcoin Transactions (Intuit app) on: January 30, 2014, 02:44:33 PM
I'll have to check out this mint thing. Thanks Intuit! Now if you can add the ability to spend I think you can capture a big market for online transactions. I know I would use it.
5988  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-01-30 Arrest of charlie shrem shows dangerously repressive US police on: January 30, 2014, 02:39:20 PM
Why are the police "dangerously repressive" for enforcing the law? Police don't choose what laws they are going to uphold. If you don't like the law you can work to change it, the police can't. Of course convincing people that money laundering should be legal will be an uphill battle.
5989  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Did we all got tricked by some huge players? on: January 24, 2014, 06:45:01 PM
Na. If your buying alt-coins then you have been tricked by some very small players. It could be a 13 year old who is able to convince you that his latest stupid coin is better than bitcoin. None of the "huge"players I know screw with alts. (well, maybe litecoin)

Do you think announcing many hundreds Bitcoins for playing with DOGE or MOON is from "small" player?

What do you think about  todays Bitcoin FALL? No reason? Small players on altcoins?

I am having a little trouble figuring out your first question. But the drop in price today may just a normal supply/demand adjustment. I suspect that new big players like overstock may be changing the price dynamic. In the first day overstock was open the claim to have grossed $130k in BTC sales. All those coins were sold the same day and dumped on the market. Each day they cash out we see btc for sale that may have been hoarded last year.

I support anyones right to make any coin they want. Still, 99.9% of alt coins are done the moment the creator has convinced someone to pay for them. That is what they are for. To quickly make a few hundred bucks for a few guys. They are not going to survive. Doggy coins, coinye west coins, ...? Oh please.
A lot of new users come here and read about alts as just like bitcoin. But they aren't are they?
5990  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: January 24, 2014, 06:29:55 PM
hmmm....a quick look at historical degree days 1900-2013 shows what's likely statistically significant COOLING for that region, starting about the midpoint 1950-1960.

basic data are here

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lsx/?n=cli_archive

Looks like to post a chart on this forum I first have to put it on an image hosting service.  Maybe I'll try to figure out, right now it too damn cold around here to do much...

LOL...
There is a lot of data there to sort through. It would take some graphing to make sones of. However I don't see a colling trend? For example six of the hottest years recorded have been in my lifetime, vs. on three of the coldest years. But again. Math isn't pick and choose. It would take more effort to make a judgment about trends.
Another unscientific anecdote is that talking about how much warmer it is in St. Louis has become as common as asking where you went to high school. (StL joke there).

Bad idea  Huh

It's a freaking awesome idea!  Cheesy

...as long as awesomeness is your only goal.  Cool

5993  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: January 24, 2014, 05:31:33 PM

I grew up in St.Louis. As I kid we played hockey all winter and dug tunnels in the snow drifts. Now St. Louis is like the south. There is hardly a winter at all, mostly sleet and cold rain. I believe I'm going to die on a different planet than I was born on.  Embarrassed

5994  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-01-24] TigerDirect.com now accepts BTC. Get your GPUs with BTC now on: January 24, 2014, 01:37:47 AM
Sorry NewEgg, Tiger is getting my money now.

EDIT: Wow, from the looks of their front page they're all in.
5995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jamie Dimon Goes On The Attack On Bitcoin on: January 23, 2014, 06:44:01 PM
It's a "terrible store of value", huh?
The money that I keep in dollars is almost always declining in value. My bitcoins are almost always gaining. Some of my coins are worth 1000 times what I paid for them.

Jamie, what the hell are you talking about???
5996  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC is being manipulated into stability. But why? on: January 23, 2014, 06:37:47 PM
The mysterious "manipulator" is back then. He/she must sure love bitcoin. This must be costing millions of dollars a day.  Roll Eyes
As mentioned above, bitcoin has always had long periods of stability. You don't hear much about it because it's boring.

You didn't really think those silly alts had a future? They are mostly created for a month long pump.  Of course, I also thought that about litecoin. Litecoin does have some actual users. But a coin based on a guys favorite dog??? No.
