61  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Speculating A Bad Thing? on: September 08, 2017, 02:11:25 AM
Speculators are required for every asset class. They are the people who provide liquidity to the markets. If everybody thinks it is going to go up by 3% every year and there are no speculators around, trading volumes will plummet.

No doubt speculators provide order flow to the markets, but in most market structures speculators are not considered liquidity providers. Liquidith providers have a tendency to stabilize prices. Speculators and parasitic traders on the other hand tend to create pumps and dumps.
62  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi just sold his mined Bitcoins from 2010 on: August 30, 2017, 01:52:25 AM
Maybe the person wants to dump their Bitcoin Cash and are simply moving their coins to protect from a replay attack prior to cashing out the BCH.
63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Help receiving BCH on: August 28, 2017, 12:15:48 AM
I was able to import a Multibit Classic private key into a Bitcoin Core wallet.dat (and then spending the BTC and finally running the wallet.dat in Bitcoin ABC with the -zapwallettxes command line option).

I assume that importing the private key into Bitcoin ABC directly should be exactly the same as importing it into Bitcoin Core, and I expect this to work for you.
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why compare BTC to USD? on: August 27, 2017, 02:44:06 AM
US Dollar is going down in price, US economy is collapsing.

In 2017 the USD is weakening against major currencies but it is hardly collapsing, at least relative to other economies.

In fact, between 2012 and 2016 the USD has strengthened against EUR, RUB and CNY. It wasn't because the US economy was doing great. Rather it was a case of the other economies doing worse than the US.
65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: 1 BCH = 1 BTC before end of august? on: August 26, 2017, 01:01:40 PM
Hoping that 1 BCH would hit at least 0.25 BTC, because that is where my sell limit orders are.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DO YOU AGREE? on: August 25, 2017, 02:09:39 AM
To those who think that it is 100% impossible for Bitcoin to hit $15,000 this year I ask you to consider this:

How many months did it take for Bitcoin to quadruple from $1,000 to $4,000 in the most recent run up?
67  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will it fall? on: August 25, 2017, 02:02:25 AM
what comes up must come down.

Worst analogy ever. This can only happen to something that is completely worthless and useless. The stock market has never went to $0 EVER.

The saying has a lot of truth in it. However, it does not imply a timeframe. Even though the stock market will go to $0 when civilization ends it does not mean that we will see that happen in our lifetimes.

Ultimately, trying to time the market is a fool's game for most people. There are a few people that can do it consistently over time but most cannot.
68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IRS Now Has a Tool to Unmask Bitcoin Tax Cheats on: August 22, 2017, 09:42:23 PM
So if I pay cash for Bitcoins, and do the transaction over the free WiFi in McDonalds, how are they going to check on that?
If I buy them from a stranger, then the trail dies with me.

Each device as a unique imei number. It would only work if you use different devices and different IP's each time.
If you use the same device too many times and especially if that's used with the same IP, they are going to catch you sooner or later.
Your device doesn't leave imei trace in the blockchain, only in the McDonalds Wifi, so they'd have to issue a subpoena to get that from them. Doable, but what now?
You go to another restaurant and send a transaction. Now they have 2 transactions done from the same device. How do they link a device to a real person?
Let's say you continue doing that over and over from the same phone and all they have is different BTC addresses with the same IMEI and no ID and they've lost a lot of time and money on going through all those devices that used wifi in all those restaurants. That would be a disaster for them.

Furthermore, IMEI is not used in WiFi. IMEI is only applicable for wireless data that goes through wireless carriers. For WiFi it is the MAC address of your WiFi adapter that MacDonald's sees.
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshis Original Vision on: August 21, 2017, 01:02:07 PM
Satoshi's original vision is that whichever chain creates the most proof of work is Bitcoin.  It's in the abstract of the whitepaper to summarise the entire concept.  You can't get much more clear on what Satoshi meant:

Quote
The network timestamps transactions by hashing them into an ongoing chain of
hash-based proof-of-work, forming a record that cannot be changed without redoing
the proof-of-work. The longest chain not only serves as proof of the sequence of
events witnessed, but proof that it came from the largest pool of CPU power. As
long as a majority of CPU power is controlled by nodes that are not cooperating to
attack the network, they'll generate the longest chain and outpace attackers.

So how about everyone, that's both bigblockers and smallblockers included, stops bickering over which "side" has best interpreted Satoshi's original vision and just roll with it.  The only thing that matters in the end is the longest chain, providing it has an adequate quantity of nodes and sustainable economic activity to continue propagating.  BitcoinCash has fallen 900 blocks behind, so clearly that isn't Bitcoin according to the above definition.

The corollary of this argument is that Bitcoin Cash nodes and miners are the attackers.  Grin
70  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why do so many people wait for "bitcoin to crash" to buy some, and miss out on: August 14, 2017, 09:55:39 AM
Duh, because it's at its all time high.

In a trending market, as opposed to a market that is in a trading range, buying in at an all time high is a statistically safe strategy. The problem is that for most people it is difficult to tell when the market is in a trending mode until it is already almost over.
71  Economy / Speculation / Re: Whale pump or newbie ignorance? on: August 12, 2017, 11:49:35 AM
What do you guys think is at the heart of this rise?

Who knows. The more important thing is how much of the $200 -> $3800 rise did you participate in?
72  Economy / Speculation / Re: So where exactly are we in the bubble? on: August 12, 2017, 11:13:44 AM
I know y'all have seen this diagram before, and with BTC just crossing $3,800 as I type, where do you think we are in the bubble?

Aw man so cuz I'm a noob it won't post the image... Oh well. Its basically that "main stages of a bubble" chart. Which crypto most definitely is in. But are we just beginning the true ascent, or have we reached the peak? Thoughts?

Do you see many institutional investors in Bitcoin at this time? Are pension funds including Bitcoin in their portfolios? I have exposure to this information at my job and can assure you they are not.

Based on this I would say that we are still in the stealth phase, possibly moving into the awareness phase.
73  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Happens to Bitcoin's Security After Quantum Computing is Perfected? on: August 12, 2017, 03:08:34 AM
If ECDSA could be hacked by quantum computer with high probability, treat for SHA-256 is more theoretical. We have enough time, and cryptography is evolving, and will be evolving with the evolving of quantum computers.
In my view, bitcoin have some other important problems

By not reusing addresses the weakest link in the chain  (ECDSA) remains protected by a hash operation because the public key remains hidden until such a time when the coins in that address is spent. Once you spend the coins fromantic and address, discard the address because the public key has been revealed and the private key now is theoretically open to a quantum attack.
74  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is this for real? I could be a millionaire? on: August 09, 2017, 04:18:37 PM
People who are cynical and skeptical by nature tend to miss out on opportunities to make a fortune when they present themselves. This is because of a tendency to dismiss these opportunities too quickly instead of taking a bit of tine evaluating them.
75  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Cash is better than Bitcoin. on: August 06, 2017, 08:39:00 AM
Hey! Bitcoin Cash is worse than Bitcoin and at the same time worse than Cash.  Grin Grin Grin

Other than that, comparing Bitcoin to Cash is like comparing apples to oranges. Furthermore it seems like the OP is incorrectly including credit cards and other fiat electronic payments systems under the definition of "cash".
76  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: August 05, 2017, 03:26:32 PM
I disagree with pegging to fiat because fiat itself is not constant - it mostly devalues over time. The value paid for a certain rank should not get lower over time. E.g. $500 USD in 2011 is worth maybe $800 USD today when priced in terms of groceries or real estate.
77  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 05, 2017, 03:07:42 PM

Why is ppl here so obsessed with that unknown milf?  Huh
Posting a different pair of boobs for each special event would be appreciated.

78  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens after 21 Million mined BTC? on: August 04, 2017, 09:46:59 PM
when all the 21 million Bitcoin will be mined completely( which will eventually take a long time ) then the Bitcoin will move in a constant circulation inside the mempool or memory pool

Lol! You're blowing it out your ass making shit up, but at least it is funny!

No, the memory pool will only contain uncommitted transactions even if the supply of new coins have dried up.
79  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: wtf is this... on: August 04, 2017, 09:30:02 PM
yes ik its empty but im just curious that i found an adress that HAD been used

If you check some you will find that there are a lot of address that have been used but the total balance is always 0.

why does that happen  Huh Wink

A wild guess would be people send small amounts to some the listed addresses as some kind of a joke/game. Then see if they can quickly withdraw it before somebody else does.

Hey, I might just do that later when I get home.
80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons why Bitcoin Cash will take over Bitcoin on: August 04, 2017, 08:55:10 PM
The latest update of BCH market is that it trades at $690.38.
How dd you come up with this price? In reality it's much lower, less than a half of it.
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin-cash/ $270-$280 since yesterday. It's even lower than I expected. I thought it to stabilize around 0.15 BTC, but people keep dumping Wink It's not going to surpass BTC, don't count on it. Not enough interest and mining power. It will go up though in the long run.

Maybe because he copy-pasted a 1 day old article?
