61  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [RFC] 2012/2013 Casascius Coins on: December 06, 2020, 05:07:36 PM
Are there any collectors out there for this?

I might have some 1/5/10/25 BTC coins (also some with the "CASACIUS" misprint).
Looking to maybe turn some of these potential coins around Smiley

Located in the EU, so sadly ungraded.
You definitely came to the right place. We have everything a seller could ever need.. buyers for loaded coins, peeled coins, trusted escrows, and even courier services..

We do however require that you post pictures of the coins with your username, the date, the most recent block height and the last 5 or 6 digits of the block's hash. With bitcoin hitting the news cycle again there are just too many dangers out there for both buyers and sellers. We try to keep everyone safe and proper here.

Never move off of the forum for escrow or any private matters.. telegram and whatsapp are ripe with spoofers and scammers. They watch the forums and they know who they need to impersonate to attempt to separate you from your coins. Just don't let it happen.

With all that said [INFO]The Canary Thread is looking for a peeled Casascius 10BTC.

Notable post by CryptoImperator that I would like to have documented here for future discussion about Crypto Imperator coins.

As far as I am concerned, this is not a widespread issue, if you can, please post or send me some pictures of your coins with faded firstbits for analysis.

What I can say is that sometimes, depending on the letters comprising the Firstbits it gets printed a bit blurrier, having a much smaller font size, also sometimes with the hologram on top it affects readability as window is not 100% transparent. What I make sure is that the private key letters are all complete, firstbits are just extra information.

See:

Here is a picture of a 2014 Dogecoin: https://i.imgur.com/W2iVjhv.jpg

Firstbits have not faded there, I have been using the same ink and process for the last six years.  For what I have seen in my collection, some are "barely readable" since the beginning. (Having released the coin list should not make that a problem)

Furthermore I have my own "Canary", a couple tubes of 2014 10k Dogecoins + 2014 10k Bits BTC stored in humidity of 60%+, which I open and redeem from time to time to ensure the key is still readable, no issues so far.

I want to be as open and transparent about this as possible, and verify if some firstbits are indeed fading, as far as I know no private key has "suffered" from this issue. But bear in mind that no process, of any maker, is bulletproof and there will always be risks with physical keys.

Any doubt, please let me know.

If you own a coin or two that has been called to attention here, [INFO] The Canary Thread is interested in taking a closer look. Moreso to ensure the private key insert is not fading.. but can also scope the first bits window to compare against another CI coin with strong readable first bits for this thread. (First bits is not something The Canary Thread will be monitoring, the primary goal is to ensure the private key is readable after multiple years)

Hi teeGUMES!

I have 2 accounts SwissFrank and Frank AlpenCoin.

In the future I will only use Frank AlpenCoin. When I realised I was not able to change my name I made another account to bid for a coin from minerjones!

Not a worry. Thank you for confirming Smiley good luck with auction, neat little souvenir for somebody

67  Economy / Collectibles / Re: WTS 2016 LEALANA 25 MONERO 1oz Silver Coin on: November 25, 2020, 04:53:02 AM
Want to sell , unfortunately I’m a newbie and can not post pics. If interested we can find a way. https://imgur.com/a/hBL3Md1
I will use escrow and the price will be 5k USD  or Btc equivalent. Will provide background on Coin to buyer and it’s from set 104 .
I'll take it with the condition that I peel it for [INFO] The Canary Thread and as long as the funds are on it I will release the funds from escrow. If not... let's discuss.
Will Message As soon as I have another PM available.
I've come to a deal with CrazyTimes for this coin. We moved to Telegram due to their limited PM abilities here. We aren't using escrow but are completing this deal in a way that he is trusting me by sending first. Will update when coin is in hand (and appearing in The Canary Thread) thank you CrazyTimes.

74  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius coin: 100 Bar, 1, .5, .25 Detailed steps/checklist to sell unredeemed? on: November 19, 2020, 03:44:32 PM
First of all, with bitcoin's growth to near ATH we are seeing more and more nefarious activity happening amongst the Collectibles/Goods section. As this is the case you have to understand that the majority of collectors here are on high alert with newbie accounts.

If you are serious you will receive all the information you need here and be provided with the safest way to redeem and/or sell. Keep in mind you should stay on the Collectibles board and through private messages here on the forum. Do not let someone get you to move the conversation to Telegram or WhatsApp. Usually they are scammers and trying to separate you and your coins.

To prove you are serious we would require you to upload pictures including the Casascius items you have aswell as your username, the date, the current block height and the last 5 or 6 digits of its hash on a piece of paper.
As a newbie you will not be able to embed them but if you provide us the link in a post one of the other members will reply after and post them for you.
75  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius DEMO coin on: November 19, 2020, 04:52:54 AM
What grading service, anacs? Go with ICG instead if so. Wink

Ha. I used ANACS back in the old days (yellow insert slab). I've never seen a graded DEMO so my main concern would be that it was classified correctly whether its ICG or someone else.
Get in touch with anonymousminer.. he's got the contacts with ICG, can probably get that backlog skipped too
76  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius DEMO coin on: November 19, 2020, 04:36:12 AM
Thank you for talking about this. I do not think there is that much demand because demo are not loaded.
I guess people don care.
Anyway pm me how much you are looking for the demo coin. Rainbowsky
It's unfortunate that Rainbowsky is always the first one to comment on every single thread with incorrect information. Please disregard his post.

This coin would be highly valuable and sought after as it is a large part of Casascius history.
Please add pictures to show quality and help increase hype. It more than likely won't sell instantly unless you auction it but having it well documented in the thread will lead to offers further down the line when big money starts looking for these rarities.
77  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2011 Casascius 25 BTC loaded on: November 18, 2020, 03:28:51 PM
User 'ssm' has not chosen to allow messages from newbies. You should post in their relevant thread to remind them to enable this setting.
I don't like to share my offer in public, can you allow messages to newbies or private message me your telegram for contact?
Great coin! Would love to take it off your hands if the price is right for both of us.
Cheers.
ssm keep everything on forum. Telegram escrow impersonators and spoofing are one of the biggest way people end up losing coins or being scammed.
You should be able to go into your Profile and then Personal Message Options and check "allow newbies to send you PMs."
Use one of the well known escrows here and you will be alright. Hopefully they can go above and beyond and help you ensure the bitcoin being used to pay are not flagged/dirty aswell.

For both of you you can buy a Copper Membership to ease up some of the newbie restrictions. Miniscule fee if you're dealing with 25BTC here. Nevermind I don't think it makes PM restrictions any better. Only public replies to threads.
78  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] The Canary Thread on: November 17, 2020, 06:29:12 PM
TeeGumes......A question to ponder...Some of the private keys are completely encapsulated inside a hologram with no air or light contact( especially if facing away from the hologram), would this extend the life of the paper and or ink compared to similar ones that are exposed? Also to ponder, would laminated priv keys extend the life of such ink and paper?

A good article on paper and ink and the effect of light Photofading of Ballpoint Dyes Studied on Paper
Let me preface my answer with the fact that I am not an expert in any field associated with ink or paper, just a guy with a microscope and an idea for a thread.

The first part of your question is exactly what we'll be testing here. Everything unpeeled should technically last longer than the peeled coins on display here. It really starts to come together when you have the data that we already have with the Casascius coins I currently have. 2011 | 2014 | 2020 peel dates and they all look like they were peeled yesterday. Mind you they were all stored in an "unpeeled state" with the private key insert facing the metal and the hologram loosely reapplied to the best of the once-peeled adhesive's ability to hold it down. I've been thinking about this and I have a 2013 Casascius Brass 1BTC on its way to me in the mail right now. I am going to leave the insert and hologram facing upwards like you see in the third picture of each coin here just as a side project.. I believe the more data we have out in the open will benefit the whole Collectibles area. I might do this with a few popular duplicate items, have an "Outlier" section of this project.

Laminating could prove beneficial but there are always the different pros and cons with each new step added to making coins. You may extend the life yes, if you choose the right laminating material.. as we've seen with different top loading sleeves we never really know whats good and whats bad until something really bad happens. You don't want to be the coin maker to find out whats bad.
Also with laminating I feel like the dimensions of your paper insert now change. Thicker, taller, wider.. this now means less hologram to metal ratio which makes your coin more delicate and prone to a hologram coming off on its own. You solve this by making your paper insert smaller to compensate.. but now your private key or QR code is printed smaller and tighter.. more of a chance for the ink to bleed into an unrecognizable format.

There are just so many "what ifs" to think of, I think being a coin creator today you have to look back and just see "what works" and focus on increasing security rather than trying to reinvent the wheel.
Now speaking of the wheel.. is it really a paper insert that relies on the lifespan of paper and ink? I'm already thinking about six months in the future when I pull all these coins out to throw under the microscope again.. the question already in the back of my mind is do I really have to scope the engraved coins**? Something to think about.

**of course I will

Side note: I'd be very interested in an experienced tattoo artists' opinion.
79  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] The Canary Thread on: November 16, 2020, 11:38:52 PM
Awesome thread thanks so much for putting in all this effort to help all collectors sleep better. Is there a best and worst option so far in your opinion?
I'm no ink or paper connoisseur so I can't play favorites. I'm very curious to see this progress throughout the years.. even though some of the printing is really fine and clean looking, has it really "sunk" into the paper as well as some of the others? I tend to believe that the ability of the paper to retain the ink is going to be the superior detail over just a clean print job.

Look at the Casascius coins.. if I didn't tell you they were peeled in 2011, 2014, and 2020 you probably would have guessed I peeled them all yesterday.

Another note I wanted to make was that whatever was placed over the Kialara private key made it near impossible to get a good focus/picture when zoomed in. At no point could I really get down to the nitty gritty and see the ink particles or threads of the paper.

One thing I do know is that the creator's that have gotten back to me with additional information are definitely thinking about us when it comes time to peel, whether it be now or twenty years down the road. With our current group of innovators/creators we are in great hands.

A project I'd like to add is to submerge QR code/private key slips underwater for a lengthy amount of time.. put the "water resistant ink/paper" claims to the test. Lets see what 2021 can do for us first though.
