61  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL 6 May 2013 ASIC Update on: May 10, 2013, 11:38:08 AM
For the love of god...
Does every single BFL thread have to degenerate into a troll mud slinging free for all?

I have an early July order with BFL, and look in to see if there is any new news here, and by and large I have to wade through pages and pages of utter nonsense to find 1 or 2 meaningful messages. It is ridiculous.

And yes, it may say newbie by my name, but I have been lurking here for years... I remember when Inaba was a 'respected member of the community' and how everyone was so happy that he was going to represent us and visit BFL to verify that their FPGA product wasn't a scam...

And, quite frankly, anyone considering a BFL ASIC pre-order should have known or researched the BFL FPGA debacle. Heck, i was pretty convinced that their FPGA thing was scam back then. When I made the ASIC order, I was confident it would be late, use more power (or have some other metric missing spec), but eventually be shipped. It's a calculated risk, and it has been fairly accurate.

Yes, they have made statements that weren't accurate, yes their ASIC product missed their power estimate, yes, they still are not shipping in quantity, yes, Josh seems to be missing the customer service gene, yes they are a ridiculously horrible company.....  We know. We get it, you do NOT need to pollute every last BFL thread with Josh clown pictures.

They've had my money for 10 months, I'm not exactly excited about it, but trolling on about in the forums won't make my ASIC get here any faster.

/rant

Sorry, bud, you're wrong.

For every single person tired of seeing a BFL rant, maybe 5 others become informed of BFL's reputation by way of these constant shitstorms.

This is the purpose of a forum and a collective response resulting in the formation of the entity in question's reputation.

Just because you are bored reading this stuff doesn't make it any less important.  Rather than wishing to control content in these threads why not pick up a hobby or something that interests you?  Because your premise is entirely self centered.

62  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Decentralised crime fighting using private set intersection protocols on: May 10, 2013, 11:29:30 AM

This is good shit, Mike.

As a supplement to law and order this is a good idea.  I think it has it's place.  The concept of Nexus to define scope is good.

And I would like to see this realized.  Society's collective apathy let's far too many of ill repute continue to operate without repercussions.

If something like this can be designed to not be gamed by a rogue or powerful entity, and is voluntary - then why not?

A stable sine wave of about 20USD of amplitude and about 15 minutes of wavelength for a few days would be nice...

The Bitcoin market is more polar.

i.e.

Wolfram Alpha isn't being cooperative, what does that looks like?

Depending on the frequency of steps in the polar graph.

I've mastered Bitcoin trading with this pattern.....  Roll Eyes

FYI, for 3.1.0  on Win 7 64.

If one of many BFL units are unplugged cgminer will zombie that unit, if an additional device is unplugged then cgminer stops work completely on all units with usb comm errors.

66  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Visit to BFL on: May 09, 2013, 01:27:47 AM
You must be young, you keep referring to game companies.

As much as I enjoy your BFL Master Shillery, I'm going to need to call you on this one. What is wrong with video game companies ? It is conceivable some of us might even work at making video games professionally.

It's not an appropriate reposte insinuating that video game companies are associated with youngins.
By the way, if I am in my "MASTER BFL Shill" custume. I always add it as a footer in my messages. Just to make sure people take note of it and don't take it seriously.

For example, I could make the (perfectly rational shill'in) argument that once you give your money to BFL it is now their property. That they don't have to "give it back". They don't even have to contact you anymore. No....you shouldn't even visit them (announced or otherwise) and NEVER expect anything in return.

As far as I am concerned, the customers are giving their payment as "gifts". Yes, you read that right. This is what it is like to be a MASTER BFL Shill. This is my twisted reality and thinking as a Shill of the highest porportions.

If you (the BFL customers out there) complain you are a total "Troll".

(Master BFL Shill) <---  Grin Shocked Roll Eyes Huh

THIS ^ sums up the definition of a true BFL shill.

There is a word that describes this treatment.  Hustling.

Prostitutes, pimps, grifters....

They take what they can and get away with what they can.

3.1.0 - "nogpu" version

Platform:
Win 7 64 bit

After approx. 3-6 hours the following behavior occurs.

1.  Increasingly frequent "Unable to read temperature."  Or something like that.  BFL unit in question still hashing away.

2.  Not long after 1. cgminer stops processing work.  "JSON stratum auth failed (no reason)" messages.  Have to Q out, restart to hash again.

The stratum auth failure message occurs with or without cgminer continuing to process work.  So, pool seems available - just some quirky problem.

69  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Wafer Broke? on: May 05, 2013, 04:42:10 PM
Kano,

I think getting the press to shine the light on the dark shadowy corners of BFL will reveal some interesting truths that BFL does not want the public to know.

Whether or not they actually ever deliver a device is beside the point. All of the inexcusable delays and promises that were broken on many levels warrants a press/media outlet to waltz over to BFL and bring their camera crew.

Have to agree.  BFL should be accountable for both words and actions.  If the actions (building a 65nm Bitcoin hashing device) are hard - that's one thing.

Words.  Lies.  Willful misrepresentation?  That's another.

The presence of fear is a good thing, but only if accompanied by the guidance of wisdom.

Fear abolishes wisdom. Like the litany says, it is the mind-killer.

Reasoned caution is a good thing, but fear is not.

Hah, Dune reference.  Not enough of those around.

I wonder what they think they'll accomplish by jailing her.  I wonder if they think.

Enforcers of law do not think.  The thinking is left up to the judicial process.

Let's hope the judge in the case sees that the incident does not meet the important standard of "spirit of the law."

If the judge doesn't apply critical thinking to this case then this incident is another example of a country that may be becoming a police state.

73  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S. Will Need to Create 'Unprecedented' 35 Million New Jobs if Immigration Bill on: May 05, 2013, 10:57:21 AM

Granted, in a steady state of technology and a well populated territory, LOW SKILL population leads to lower standards of living and depleted resources.

This is why sensible countries have an education requirement for immigration, i.e. post secondary and with focus on understaffed sectors.

We do not want to be another England.

The 'babies born' argument neglects to take in to account the spectrum of socio-economic backgrounds of the parents.  Which does play a part in the economics.

30 million LOW SKILLED immigrants is a very small economic impact.  Don't believe me?  Visit an immigrant ghetto.  Liquor stores, pawn shops, off-brand grocery stores, and ethnic food markets.  No Best Buy, Starbucks, etc.

While we are at it - why don't we raise the cost of education and lower the wages.  Makes total sense.

A slew of poor parents and their poor children really doesn't promise progress.  Just a problem transferred between countries.

And, while I'm at it, I do believe in population control.  More people does not always a better society make.

74  Economy / Speculation / Re: Market Depth Should Not Be Reported Period on: May 04, 2013, 01:30:36 AM

From a liberty purist point of view, my devil's advocate position, more info - the better.

From a game theory point of view.  Screw market depth.

I would appreciate a market that operated on "In the money" scope.  No fake walls that are moved based on current "In the Money" levels.

It all comes back to "In the Money."  If you aren't there - you're gaming the system for some end.

Is this ok?  Maybe, but it definitely adds an unnecessary psychological element.  And I don't like head games.
75  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Wafer Broke? on: May 02, 2013, 11:58:44 PM

The problem is, for everyone one of you that says NO WAY IN HELL there are three others that are refreshed by the fact that I don't cater to whiny customers, so the point is really moot.

Great way to piss all over your customers, Josh.
It really condenses your past behaviour in one simple post.
Bravo.

The thing is: I'm a customer - and enjoy watching josh smack down the liars and the morons. Too often people in general (and companies chasing 'customer satisfaction') resort to giving hugs and wiping various orifices of their customers with soft tissue paper.

If more of us were honest and willing to be vocal about it the world wouldn't be in nearly the state that it's in.

Keep it up Josh.

You see, that is true. There is however a difference between being tough and awesome and being an asshole.

Compare what Donald Trump does all day to what Josh did here. That is the difference. I think Josh has the potential, if he starts cranking the awesome up a little more.
So if I understand you correctly, it's ok to be an asshole, so long as the level of awesome is large enough to eclipse the level of asshole.  But if more asshole peeks out than can be effectively hidden by the awesome, it immediately becomes fail?

I believe this can be applied to other areas too, such as arrogance and competence, or annoying vs entertaining.

Yup, that is about it.

Look up George Carlin, the comedy genius. One of the main points though is that you are definitely going to either needs tons of money, social proof or success to pull it off.

Donald Trump has named his towers after himself and is a billionaire, he has proven himself in that market. He'd make an ass out of himself if he gave seminars on dog training or stuff like this. As an entrepreneur and financial advisor, he is gold and can push the envelope. Note that he never insults though. In our trainings, we say "tough on the issue, soft on the person." So you will never attack personality, calling people imbeciles and so on. Instead, you demonstrate anything they say, spin it far enough that it makes them look like an assclown and then come from a position of authority.  Rhetoric Jiujitsu Wink

What?  Seriously?  Should we be comparing Josh Zerlan to the likes of someone that's actually truly successful like Donald Trump?  So, that a decent analogy of competence vs arrogance can be used?

I'm sorry.  I must have missed the part where BFL has exceeded customer expectations and is DOMINATING ASIC.

Ummm, oh, right.  That isn't happening.  In fact, as a BFL customer the cockles of my heart are warmed by the fact that I will need to purchase two extra PSU's and some thicker AWG cables for my mining operation.  And, after the great power efficiency marketing effort by BFL no less.  Com'on.

In reality land - smart people see past rhetorical devices and realize them for what they are:  verbal manipulation.

It's total crap.  No average customer in their right mind would ever think Josh is a good representative of his company.

I just think all of the fanboys and apologists are really, truly, completely STRANGE.

I hate to say it, but this is the situation where Big Brother should step in and ask 'WTF?'

5k chips is what, 1 to 2 wafers?  Yeah, could have been broken.  Still, very suspicious.
77  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Isis ATP [Automated Trading Platform] - Discussion on: May 01, 2013, 11:21:54 PM

Are you getting DEBUG HTTP response 200 messages from MtGox with Xchange 1.6?  Seems that mmazi.rescu is catching 200 codes on each post/get to MtGox.  I suppose Xchange is doing the error handling.

Pretty annoying that I don't see any flags in the Xchange documentation to modify debug levels for HTTP responses.

These debug messages can to be disabled by editing the logback.xml file.

Thanks for the info and the 1.6 update.

Final confirmation is required

Please be advised that due to the adjustments described above, we need your confirmation prior to release of your order into the final build queue and on to final delivery.  It may also be a good time to review your purchase altogether relative to the bitcoin market as this is the last opportunity to do so.  If your order is not confirmed, it will be canceled and your money will be refunded.

Sounds like a cashflow problem.  Last minute refunds after capital investment might sink their ship.

Interesting.
Sounds more like a cash grab to me. New orders cost a lot more, they can ship to more people in line, and they may not have immediately sold the BTC they collected. Since the refunds are basically forced (48h ultimatum via email is absurd), I really doubt BFL didn't think this one through.

That's a good point.  Push old out for new, increased revenue.

Yep.

Can you please add an option for "OprahCoin?"

I think she'll try to dominate the digital coin space with OprahCoin.
