61  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [150+ PH] SlushPool (slushpool.com); World's First Mining Pool on: December 27, 2017, 10:20:52 AM
Anyone able to get nicehash SHA256 rentals to work at slush pool? Or any other pool?

I'm being met by "diff too low" when using the pool verification tool, but it doesnt help to set the "d=xx" parameter in the password feil either.

What am I missing?

What do you guys think about these cards for mining:

Palit GeForce GTX 1080Ti Super Jetstream
Palit GeForce GTX 1080Ti Jetstream

The Jetstream is 81$ cheaper than the Super Jetstream.

Super just means factory overclocked slightly higher, for $81 its not worth it. Same cooler. Beware that Palit returns take a long time, and only 2 year warranty.

Hmm, Im not sure if I will get a warranty at all, I'm mining as a registered company.
As a consumer tho I would have gotten 5 years warranty. All consumer electronics in Norway has a 5 year warranty by law!

I'm looking for 1080Ti cards for mining, which has dual bearing fans!

Only cards in stock are the Palit and Asus Strix cards! Asus doesnt have dual bearing, do they?

What do the pro's in this thread think about the future of GPU mining?

I was planning to buy a bunch of S9's/Avalon 8 in the next batch, but watching the BTC diff increase like crazy and altcoins price just going up, I'm back to considering GPU rigs instead!

I would be building 13 GPU rigs, which cards would be best for the future?

Sapphire Nitro+ RX 570 4gb, Sapphire Nitro+ RX Vega 56?
Or are some of the nvidia cards still good for mining?

I've only been mining with AMD cards so far! Smiley

What are the chances of ETH actually removing PoW in Q4 2018?

I will probably buy around 104 GPUs if I go down this road.

Cheers <3

Still expanding all the way. I am flying to my farm with 54 more 1070ti. Probably getting another 50 after setting up. Holding equal value in coins and rigs. With the recent rise in eth I have a surplus of coins waiting to be converted to rigs. Maybe I'll stop expansion 2 months before volta.

However I am not the biggest fan of dagger hashimoto (eth) mining because of potential POS switch and big farms are mining it. Unlikely eth will become more profitable than shitcoins and small cap coins that nvidia does well at. I just buy hold eth instead.  I have enough 1080ti to hash small caps, now getting some equihash optimized cards (1070ti).

For 13 gpu rig, 570 4gb and 1060 3gb has the fastest payback period. I'm not sure if it's possible to run 13x vega yet.

Thanks for reply!

There is a cap for Vega cards in a rig? :O Didn't know about this. Do you know what the issue is?

Tbh I'd rather buy expensive cards because I have limited access to electricity, so I need to make the biggest amount of hashing power per W.

I like the fact that Sapphire Nitro+ RX Vega series has fan controllers on them, plus I like the quality of Sapphire Nitro series!

RX 570 is still the way to go then I guess?

Could you recommend a motherboard?

I've been using Asus z270-P and asus b250 mining at the moment, the z270 mb's are having issues tho, cant detect 6 GPUs anymore, but the GPUs will work in new motherboards. They are probably damaged after power surges tho Sad

Asus z270-A is out of stock everywhere I look as well.

What are the 1070 Ti's hashing at? Would you go for 1080Ti or 1070Ti for most hashes per W?

Edit:

I just realized I have no clue what brand of Nvidia cards are good for mining. Could you recommend some? ^^
Which brand got the best fans? Lifespan of these cards is crucial Cheesy

Just looked at BTC.com and found next difficult level will be increased by 18% in 6 hours. Does it mean the BTC price will go up another 18% Smiley

Just a question I havent been able to wrap my head around quite yet:

If I have been mining at kano from 11.dec until now, will the shifts I produced before this diff increase, get paid according to the diff when they were produced, or with the new diff?

Cheers

The 5Nd used to determine the reward, is the 5Nd when the block is found.

Thus yes any shares in the previous 2 weeks (previous diff change), that get rewarded after a diff change, effectively get devalued when diff increases (... it usually does)

This becomes a major issue (major loss) when mining in a small pool that doesn't reward a few times every diff change.
Hopefully we wont end up that small also Sad

It is a bit bazaar that people mining elsewhere want higher fees though Tongue
The reason we have higher variance here is coz people prefer to pay higher fees elsewhere.
Oh well, them's the breaks.

Damn, this is bad for business! Tongue Means the work I put in from 10.dec gets ~18% less reward because we havent found a block since then? Thats about 600$ for me, if Im not mistaken!
Well your reward per block is your ratio of the 5Nd before the block, so it's not like you get less per block.
The higher diff means we expect less blocks per hash rate - I guess we'll see what happens with luck ... Smiley

Ah, didnt think about it like that, I'm praying for some luck, gonna eat some chicken tonight! Tongue

Unless we find a block within the next 5 hours before the difficulty change.  PRAY!

Wouldnt we need 5 blocks? We need 5 payouts per shift to get 100% PPLNS, or am I wrong?

Has anyone been able to get claymores miner to work on antpool?

I know that "Pools that require "Login.Worker" instead of wallet address are not supported directly currently, but you can use "-allpools 1" option to mine there."

But I'm not really sure how this is going to help me? Tongue

72  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [S9] brand new S9 not working on: December 12, 2017, 01:13:01 PM
Relax bro, I'm certain you have just configured the miner wrong.

If you want to test worker settings you could try to mine for a second on my account.

Pool: stratum.kano.is:3333
Workername: torepia.test
Password: x

Keep in mind: You need to wait for about 10-20 minutes before the S9 will actually start working and show data under "Miner status" page.
Refresh the miner status page every minute until you start seeing updates in the "Miner status" page.
When you see data on the status page, and Pool = Alive, then you know it was just a miner config error, and you can configure it to mine on your own account!

The errors in the kernel log you are seeing is NORMAL! Smiley

Cheers!

Thanks for answer , will try but i let the antminer settings at 1st and wasnt working to.other antminer i have (not sha256) dont take 20min to start and this one restart fewly
Think i will had cgminer release then

Just try it, I had the same issue with my S9 I got last week Cheesy

74  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: December 09, 2017, 06:03:52 PM
What is the recommended Chip temp for S9?
Im currently running between 85-91C.

under 95 c  is okay

over 100 c is not so good.

in-between 95c - 100c   is unit to unit.

based on  use of 20 units from  June 2016 until now.

also room temps   can be cold  10c  or warm  35c

and inbetween.

Thanks mate! Good to know I'm at acceptable levels! Smiley

What is the best pool to mine? Still going though pools and looking for the most stable. Before I was always mining on Nicehash.

Kano.is mate! Smiley
77  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: December 07, 2017, 03:13:10 AM
This might be a stupid question, but, just hooked up 4 new S9, and i cant see any hashboards on any of them on the miner status page.

I havent used s9 since batch 1, is this a normal problem? Surely not all 4 are DOA?

They are powered by evga 1600 g2 and bitmain psu's.

Any idea whats going on here?

I hope you already found your answer and that your babies are hashing away.
In my case, the status page doesn't show me nothing until the machine ran and hashed for about 10 minutes.
Before that, I get no information on the page. I hope it's the case for you.
Just configure them to hash to your pool and be patient. As long as the fans are blowing a ton of hot air, they should be working
Thanks for reply!

When I wrote this post they had been running for 33 minutes, after about 45 minutes they showed up in the status page, super weird, the S9 Batch 1 was not like this!
I notice I cant change fan speed or clockrate (I'm not going to change the clockrate), but fan speed would be nice tbh. I guess they removed that option.

Overall it seems more responsive than batch 1 tho, so I'll give them points for that Smiley
