61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I am new Trading Cryptos and I need Help! on: June 23, 2017, 02:32:42 PM
https://coinmarketcap.com/ this site is useful; always keep track of total coin supply, emission schedule, and keep an eye on how it was distributed when making your decisions.  As long as you in invest in coins with legit development, and buy the dips while holding for the long haul (relatively speaking), you will most likely be fine.

If you try to play the markets on the shorter term, you will probably get rekt.  Never put more than 25% of your crypto holdings into one project, never chase a pump, and don't let yourself get emotionally attached a project
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stop the word SCAM on: June 23, 2017, 01:24:48 PM
NO, sorry but in this industry it needs to be guilty until proven innocent, because the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of cryptos are scams, let's not pretend that is not the case.
63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vitalik openly admits he doesn't trust his creation on: June 22, 2017, 10:09:01 PM
That's probably the reason why they dumped the BTCs right after the ETH crowdsale, when Bitcoin was very cheap.

Really?  From what I remember they waited a bit to do that, and lost a shitload when bitcoin tanked down to $150, maybe it's that fake new or something...
64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can someone clear up some questions on taxes? on: June 21, 2017, 04:28:23 PM
A lot of misinformation here.

It is simply not true that you don't have to pay tax on crypto transactions until you actually cash something out. If you exchange Bitcoin for (say) Monero, you have to  consider that you have sold Bitcoin for whatever its market value was that day, and declare the gain/loss. That value becomes the basis for your Monero purchase. If you want to try for the like kind exemption, good luck, but you still have to declare it.

If you have lost money in crypto in prior years but haven't declared it, you can refile for those years. If you haven't declared gains you should also refile. You will have to pay interest but at least you will be in the clear.

I have never received a 1099 from Coinbase or anyone else. If Coinbase filed 1099s they wouldn't be embroiled with the IRS now in the dispute in which the IRS wants all of Coinbase's records for all of its clients, and which Coinbase is contesting. But the fact that they don't do this doesn't let anyone off the hook.

These are not popular opinions and practically nobody does this right but that is irrelevant. The only thing that is relevant is how the IRS views it.

Again I am not a tax professional but I have reviewed the issue thoroughly and I am quite convinced that this is the way it is.

You earlier compared altcoin trading to stocks and that the taxes would work the same way, but crypto currencies are classified as commodities from what I understand, where as stocks are equities.  So buying an altcoin with bitcoin would be more akin to trading gold for silver, rather than trading stocks, still not sure what that does to the tax law, but they are definitely different.
65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Invest in ETH or ETC? on: June 18, 2017, 02:26:47 PM
Well if you look at price history for both you will see that ETC has general stayed within the range of 5-10% of ETH's market cap, when ETH goes up ETC is never far behind.  On the whole as long as ETH goes up so will ETC, and will see similar gains.

However the ETH difficulty bomb is fast approaching, and as mining winds down the miners will want somewhere else to turn their hashrate, and I think that they will turn to ETC, and then the traders will be close behind.

So ultimately ETC looks to be the clear better investment.  If ETH keeps going up, so will ETC and you get to enjoy the same gains (or at least close to) as the ETH holders.  BUT, if ETH does start to crash and lose market share I can almost guarantee that money will surge from it into ETC.  Of course in my opinion I think that neither of these projects can deliver on their promises so I will not be investing in either, but if you are investing anyway, ETC is the clear winner, and I don't see much downside for the remainder of 2017.

(NOTE: I do not give professional trading advice, DYOR)
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should I invest in etherum on: June 15, 2017, 04:15:32 AM
Usually when cab drivers are talking about investing in Ethereum is a clear sign that its time to sell.

Or online poker players

My mother knows about Ethereum now, and through no effort of my own, which for me reinforces that point.  A massive crash is coming to ETH, I don't know when it will happen nor do I know what will happen between now and then (It may pump more before that happens, maybe not), but the point is that the time of Eth being a safe investment in long gone.  The only good investment to be made in a billion+ dollar crypto currency at this moment in time is Litecoin.
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: eth bloat, ddos, and clogged problems vs. bitcoin scaling on: June 13, 2017, 01:10:05 PM
none

this is also my vote
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RadixDLT (formerly eMunie) Discussion on: June 12, 2017, 11:31:27 PM
Without getting into too much detail and jeopardizing our IP, there are a number of ways to reduce the supply without hair cutting wallets (which would be a TERRIBLE solution!!).

Freezing a percentage of the supply from moving has already been discussed in public on this forum so I take it that isn't one of the ways you're referring to?

It sounds very similar to the "rolling peg" idea that David Zimbeck of BitBay has been floating for the past year
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shit just got real on: June 11, 2017, 08:01:36 PM
Still doesn't actually have any new practical application, still doesn't have a scaling solution even if it did, and it's worth 32 billion.  This is not a new paradigm, this is the next South Sea Bubble.  Put down the kool-aid people.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tell me your thoughts on STRATIS on: June 09, 2017, 08:48:33 PM
I still haven't seen anyone properly explain how it is different from Eth or Lisk besides using a different coding language for dapps.  Regardless it's current MC feels completely artificial IMHO.
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Opinions about LiteCoin on: June 09, 2017, 03:40:35 PM
I'm so confident about Litecoin pumping soon, that I convinced my own mother to buy a little.  With all of the perks of SW/LN, bitcoin hitting a scaling wall, it being added to CoinBase, soon to to be on BitStamp as well (it's their first altcoin, too), and given existing popularity in China, a Litecoin pump is obvious.  It will at the very least reclaim 4th place on CMC, if not more.

I don't think Litecoin will be a Bitcoin killer as some might try to claim, but the near future for Litecoin looks bright.
72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coint is crap right now on: June 09, 2017, 03:32:21 PM
hold BitBay, it will be above a $100m MC.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Blocknet about to blow? on: June 02, 2017, 03:11:11 PM
There are so many great opportunities to make money right now in this industry that don't involve giving money to sketchy centralized projects it's not even funny.  Go find something that is fairly distributed to invest in whose developers don't treat their investors like shit, and keep some dignity; I'll personally suggest LTC but DYOR.

You would all be wise to listen to Spoetnik.
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So what is STRAT exactly? on: June 02, 2017, 01:56:02 PM
Stratis is Ethereum but with C#, and as far as I can tell that's it.  Lisk is Ethereum but with JavaScript, and as far as I can tell that's it.
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is BlockNet really a scam? on: May 28, 2017, 03:16:37 AM
Its much easier to cast aspersions here than actually join slack it would appear.  Dan, the rest of us and the other devs have all been in slack for about 2 years.  Nobody went dark.  Perhaps you should see the slack community and see how responsive to our needs both devs are before saying such things.   All the best.

Fucking bullshit, I was on that slack channel for at least 6 months and the place was mostly a ghost town, Dan was talking to people only sporadically at first and then basically not at all.  The only communication was noise posts from Synechist that had no real content to them.  Of course you say join slack now, but that will say nothing about what that slack channel was like in the past 2 years only how it is now, no shit there will people there now that they have a product to help sell their tokens.  And of course you won't mention my point about the ann page falling apart, or the fact that they abandoned basically all pr/marketing efforts after the ICO, and the fact that this all happened after accusations of Dan colluding with Pr0metheus came out didn't help either.

Blocknet was by all appearances a near-dead scam coin just 6 months ago and anyone that is actual active on these markets would agree with me.  No this was a clear play, let the price fall so you pick up as many tokens for as cheap as possible and get ready to sell them them once you have a product ready.  I'd respect you guys more if you just said "yeah it's true, deal with it bitch", but no you have to deny, even when the writing is on the wall.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RadixDLT (formerly eMunie) Discussion on: May 27, 2017, 03:04:41 PM
Looking forward to the tech, but once again this team settles on a terrible name!  Yeah it sounds like dish soap.  Fuserleer, you should hire a marketer to help you with branding, because where I am sitting it appears to be your greatest weakness.

The brand can carry you a long way, don't shoot yourself in the foot before you even start the race.
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Where to....Poloniex? on: May 26, 2017, 01:41:31 PM
The total MC of crypto doubled inside of a month, and Poloniex gets more volume than any other exchange.  Not surprising they are going to see growing pains, they probably had and still 1000's of noobs messaging support because their altcoin withdrawal didn't clear in 10 seconds.

You usually see these kinds of posts in the troll box- "OMG my withdrawal hasn't cleared in 10 minutes I sent 10 support tickets and no response, polo is scam site, I'm calling the cops"

Every. Damn. Day.

If I worked in Poloniex support I'd probably want to cut myself right now.
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] Litecoin Speculation on: May 26, 2017, 01:33:35 PM
A little birdy told me that Litecoin will bottom soon at the .01-011 range, and will eventually spike up to .03-.05 sats.
79  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is BlockNet really a scam? on: May 26, 2017, 01:27:46 PM
Might not be a scam in the sense that there seems to be actual coding being done but that being said Dan Metcalf is a right piece of shit.  Basically went completely dark since the Blocknet ICO, they even let the hosting for images on the ANN expire.  Pretty obvious that they were doing everything in their power to make Blocknet look like a dead project so that they could pick up as much as they could for practically nothing, and then pump it up to 10x the per btc ICO price right before they reveal that they have been working the entire time.

Dan clearly has no respect for this community and he is clearly not a good person, possibly even an outright sociopath.  I don't care what kind of code makes it to his github, this man has acted with complete and utter disregard for the well being of others and it takes willful ignorance not to see that.
80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Storjcoin X vs Siacoin on: May 21, 2017, 02:08:16 AM

`that is why it is worth 4-5x the value of Storj right now` -> wrong, storj is worth 0.5$, Sia is 0.009$

Please tell me you are joking.  Their price is different because the supply is different, Sia has Billions of coins in circulation, hence a lower price.  I'm not going to waste time on someone dumb enough not to see something that obvious.
