Damn... that was pretty close!!

Read the thread though. Some people couldn't vote :S Not good with voting so close.

People that are clearly members of the community, like 0wl, SpockSkywalker, Anoxxy, and CountofMonteCrypto, and pretty much all of our twitter following that doesn't frequent btctalk were excluded because of their newbie status on bitcointalk. Even Jyap wouldn't have been able to vote, had he tried.  Our nature of drawing new people into Crypto and PinkCoin kind of bit us on this one I think. And with a 1 vote spread... I don't know. It just isn't fair.

Talking with the other devs about possible solutions. Stay tuned.

What would help this coin, as would most that want to be seen as legit, is having a known Dev team who are willing to be open about who they are and what their background is.

Given the recent collapse of Silkcoin as yet another scammy operation, I think we are seeing a shift towards the market being far more comfortable with coins that have transparency about their project.

Vericoin leads the way in this regards and are reaping the benefit of their openness.

A bio on the OP for each team-member would be a good move.

This is something that is being worked on for sure. We'll all have bio's up once we can all be bothered to write one for ourselves. *cough me cough*

For what it's worth, with exactly one exception that I can think of, anyone that follows us on twitter or has read the dailypinkcoin can find our real names, and can probably figure out who is who without much difficulty. Like I said way back in the beginning - I'm not all that careful about hiding my own identity. As it turns out, that applies to the rest of the team.

Of course we all know exactly who we are as well, and there's a very good reason that Mr. Exception hasn't yet revealed his real name, but all will be revealed soon enough.

Well since there hasn't been any SMS updates from a particular coins, I guess I will post some working screen shots of the sms gateway I have been working on in parallel with wallet.PINK.

Sorry for the last minute screen shots. I had to remove a lot of debug code in the messages and I will have more details this week but since people want to see developments, here is a development.

Initiator cell phone with a loaded balance on their address:

The person receiving gets a SMS from the gateway notifying them they have a balance. They can send and treat it as a wallet or just cash it out to their local wallet.

Oh and this was a working transaction. Here is the tx on the block chain for the cash out.
http://chainz.cryptoid.info/pc/tx.dws?9e6a2979e855a5c87b78ee1d61daa2ab154c25bfb1530163f19d66968aa1a258.htm

Roadmap and untested features:
- Clean up the code. This is still beta but wanted to show that this is a WORKING SMS gateway.
- Cost mitigation. SMS does cost money so there will be the challenge to run this without going broke while not deterring people from using it due to fees.
- Fully encrypted database - remove any element of trust on the host. Keys used in messages decrypt phone numbers preventing anyone from watching the DB for users numbers
- Burner wallets : Wallet IDs are tied to numbers. After a TX confirms outbound, wallets can be set to delete to prevent any trace of cell phone -> wallet
- QR Codes: ADDQR sends QR code of wallet. This allows someone to send you PC by scanning your phone. Probably phase 2.

Holy Monkeys. I'm speechless.

Just chiming in for a minute to say that we welcome community involvement and encourage community driven projects.

Those of us in the core dev team generally don't have a whole lot of time to devote to outside projects, we're too busy concentrating our efforts on the projects that we're developing internally. We love new ideas, and are happy to take ideas on board for our core team to develop later in the future, but our plate is full at the moment. New ideas that we decide to include into our project pipeline today aren't likely to be completed for at least a month, longer for larger projects. As a general rule, we don't directly involve ourselves in projects that we don't maintain control over. It's not that we don't appreciate them or the value that they can bring to PinkCoin, we're just really busy working on the things that we're already working on.

Anyone that does have a really great, new idea that they want to see developed sooner rather than later, by all means, please feel free to gather support from the community and consult with us as necessary in order to develop it yourself. Pinkcoin is a community driven coin, and our core dev team started out as members of the community no different than everyone else here.

I would only say that the reputation that our core team has developed should not necessarily extend to community developed projects. Please, before supporting anyone's development efforts, exercise caution and due diligence. There's a lot of dishonest people out there. Please be careful.

---

TL:DR; We're really busy working on our own core Pink Projects, but we LOVE Community Projects! Work hard and do the best job you can! Everyone else: Just please be careful and do your homework. We have no control over community based projects.

I'm a little jealous of the person that caught that dump   Cheesy

That is a terrible idea.

"I want to be able to purchase something with 'Pink'"
"Pink what?"
"Umm, Pink currency"
"Which Pink currency?"
"Pink"

Yeah. Definitely see this. We're still contemplating it based on the new ticker we're pushing, and the relevant investments that members of the team and community have made in the .pink domain. It's not too hard to make the jump from adjective to proper noun, but more likely than not we'll take a community vote on it.
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Revamped PinkCoin (PC / PINK) PoS | Multipool | Fundraiser | Anonymous on: June 22, 2014, 01:32:56 AM
I agree that most users are not concerned with Anon and fully agree with TOR. It is slow.

The wallet implementation is a bonus but I feel it would be similar to emails clients that have the "send encrypted" emails that some users love and others don't really care for. A send anonymously and send normal method would be ideal.

Oh yeah, it's just an option that'll be available to people that want it. Interface wise it's just going to be a tickbox next to where you put in how much you're sending. Nothing fancy.
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][RZR] Razor - Cutting Edge of Technology ☆[TOR Anon]☆ [No Premine] [Scrypt] on: June 21, 2014, 10:56:40 PM
Full Disclosure: I haven't skimmed the whole thread here, so this point might have already been made.

I think you guys are hyping the wrong thing, though granted it's working, and calling it 'anon' is absolutely correct, just not in the way the community has come to understand it. While I strongly suspect that the razor team has blockchain based transaction anonymity in the works, I don't believe that that is your grand success here with Tor.

What you have managed to accomplish is wallet anonymity. You've severed the link between a person's ip address and their wallet, and that is a big deal that should be advertised and made known - because with Razor, your wallet and the coins that it contains can not be connected to you simply because it was connected online.

So cool beans guys, and kudos.
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Revamped PinkCoin (PC / PINK) PoS | Multipool | Fundraiser | Anonymous on: June 21, 2014, 10:32:55 PM
Did some poking around the tor implementation in other coins. Seems to work reasonably enough, though I'm not 100% sure the IP's can't be tracked. It's possible that tor nodes are being used to anonymize the addresses, but the wallet connections seem too snappy compared to the rest of the tor network for that to really be the case. Not sure though.

Either way, it still makes tracking node ip addresses way more difficult than it was.

But back to it's potential in PinkCoin. It can't be done without actually murdering the coin, or having it straddle both the main net and tor networks, thus defeating the purpose. Nevermind it's a LOT of work. So no tor for Pinkcoin. End of story.

Using tor to anonymize *transactions* isn't necessary. If you're trying to get yourself an anonymous *wallet* to hold coins in though, that's where tor might be handy. Different breed of thing altogether, and not something we're planning on trying to do at the moment.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Revamped PinkCoin (PC / PINK) PoS | Multipool | Fundraiser | Anonymous on: June 21, 2014, 08:51:55 PM
I have a suggestion and I told you about this before also,
Why not implement TOR network for the anon transaction Both on website as well as implementing it to the wallet?

What does PinkArmy and Pink holders think about this?

Regards

Amazing! Now the question, how difficult would this be to implement?

Anyone Else who would like to see TOR network implementation in PINK wallet for anon transaction?

Please give feedback

I've sent a PM to Sumgye to look into it. He will address the TOR idea tomorrow.

TOR

I've used tor before. It's slow and sometimes hard to get connections to places. I'm curious to see how coins that do utilize it will fare, but even with success, there's a huge problem with implementing tor in PinkCoin.

Basically there's two options, both of which are nasty.

One, wallets connect to eachother in the main net through tor. In this case, it'd be simpler just to get route your internet through an ip anonymizer service - don't need to do anything special in the Pinkcoin wallet for that. That's something users can do on their own.

Two, if we tried to force the Pinkcoin wallet to use the TOR network, where, based on my experience, it will be slow, unreliable, and prone to localized downtime. But that's not even the worst part. People that don't update their wallets wont be able to connect through the TOR network, though of course they'll still be able to connect to each other just fine, and since they're holding coins... they stake just fine. So... Everything will fork. Really bad. Mass hysteria. Not good.

Anyone worried about that whitepaper that managed to link ip addresses to bitcoin addresses should probably read it carefully for a) how they did it b) how long it took to do it and c) when they did it. Good luck trying anything like that with Bitcoin now. And for Pinkcoin, well frankly, by the time Pinkcoin is big enough for it to be worth it to anyone to put in the 6 months of effort it takes to try doing something like that, anon 2.0 will be available for people to use - which uses an update to the method that would make it impossible to connect sends to receives using that method anyway.

So basically, if you're holding out for TOR. No. It can't be done correctly in PinkCoin. We don't do half @$$ed jobs. And I'm not even sure it's being done correctly in the coins that tout it in the first place.

Please give feedback

Anon should be an option, to save people having to use other coins on the occasions they might wish to be discrete, but it is the adoption by non-tech users that will drive the price of this coin. There is also the stigma of going too far 'Anon' and being accused of encouraging illicit use which, again, will drive away those potential users who can actually bring value to the coin.

There already exists too many coins scrabbling for the 'dark' side of crypto, Pink can do really well, in my opinion, by ensuring their tech is solid and their ability to style the coin's features with flair and panache.

Broaden the user-base, don't narrow it down to the type of people who already are balls-deep in Alt-coins.

Completely agree.

Furthermore, too much effort and too many resources were wast---used in developing this dubious feature that, obviously, has not even called any real attention -not even the one Pinkcoin should not be looking for- within the crypto community, much less the outside world.

The other thing that is simply surprising to me is the whole idea of "contests" or other people's reviews made by either anonymous sources or "groups with agendas" or both. That is a simple waste of time, at best, or a discredit, at worst. If you have something of real value -and I'm afraid in my opinion PinkEE is not of much value-, technologically speaking, get a third party, independent review by someone who is respected in the field and then you sure will have something worthy of putting it "out there", otherwise it is just an exercise of interest only for nerds.

This. twice. For both cryptodevil and barabbas. Other projects in the project pipeline have been stalled because people keep hammering on for more from Anon. We implemented anon almost as a passing thought to get some attention, because early on, frankly, we needed it. Then, when said eyeballs did take a look and made criticisms, we had to take a serious look, and ultimately had to come up with a brand new method completely from scratch to try and make everyone happy. Then we had to explain ourselves. Again. And again. And again.

I totally respect the need for a legitimate, deep in the nuts and bolts whitepaper, because the method was actually new. That's why I put so much effort into it. Because I think the method itself has a place next to the Coinjoin, Zerocoin and Mixcoin concepts that were created for BitCoin. I hope the idea helps contribute to new concepts in the future. I know how we plan on further developing it ourselves, and the PinkCoin community can rest assured that they will always have a real anonymous option in the future should they choose to use it. It will continuously be maintained, improved upon, and be made available in more dynamic ways.

With all that said... Pinkcoin is not all about anon. It's a feature. An option. It does not define us, nor should it. We've wasted far too much of our time on it, and now that the initial working release has been completed, we need to move primary development on to something else. Of course we're already doing that, the rest of the team has been doing exactly that even while I was slaving over writing the whitepaper. That's the great thing about having a team. Lots of things can be worked on at one time, that's how we've been able to put out great side projects while concentrating our attention on Anon, like our developments with the PinkCards, pinkcoinlottery, the .pink website overhauls, and #pinkfriday. The greatest things are best done as a collaborated effort though, and that's what we're going to start working on now. Working on the next *big* thing, in a collaborated effort, while keeping the supply of smaller, super cool developments flowing, like we do.

71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Revamped PinkCoin (PC / PINK) PoS | Multipool | Fundraiser | Anonymous on: June 21, 2014, 06:37:32 AM
The trouble we discovered with holding a 'contest' using the anon system is that people equate having a 'winner' to a problem with the anon system itself. That's not a valid test of the system.

This is like suggesting we all test how random the national lottery is by playing it, and then claiming that there's issues with its randomness because someone won.

It's not a valid test of the system if you can just keep trying different possibilities until you find the right one.

Maybe we should have a contest to find someone's real first name? First person to get it right wins. And when someone does get it right, it must be a problem with internet security... surely... because how else could they have gotten your name? Certainly not by guessing randomly, and having the person reveal their real name when someone does get it right, eh?

No. The best way to validate the anon system is not for a contest. A great way to *have fun* with the anon system is to have a contest. The best way to validate the anon system is to have a critical analysis done by security experts that specialize in crypto anonymity, like the guys in the reddit thread that was mentioned, and that sony posted in.

We do need to do some more fun things and keep generating excitement around Pinkcoin. For sure! Let's have some fun!

But let's not confuse a fun contest for a legitimate test of the system, alright? We already paid the price for that kind of confusion once. Let's not try our luck again.

Edit: For what it's worth - the system is available for absolutely anyone to test for themselves. It's better that way anyway. It means we can't manipulate the results.

Well said was hoping for another contest for redemption sake but you make a great argument on why the team will not place the perception of the PinkEE success in the form of a one off contest. I've been following so I know the contest was both success and mistake valuable info learned. I now, hearing your plan to have independent reviews, agree and think the slower approach of having trusted peer evaluations will get the respect of the crypto community. This will probably set some benchmarks of how to release a feature. But I still think we should be creative and come up with some promotional event to market the working anonymous feature. Im thinking of a less yes/no on/off type contest but more like a grading system up against what is already out there as far as anonymous goes. Like get some of the top tech guys to grade the different coins anonymity level. Great work as always guys. And thanks for specifically addressing the contest.

Sure sure! Absolutely. And we're not against a contest at all! We love getting everyone involved, generating interest and excitement, and giving people ways to win/earn coins!

We just bit the bullet a little bit the last time we did it, and want to be careful about it if/when we do one around the anon system again. That's all.

W H I T E P A P E R

wow....so cool..... this DEV is cool and smart

Very impressive whitepaper, done with such style and flare. It's obvious you guys take pride in what you do and what you do is always above and beyond everyone's expectations. I dare say even the harshest of critics would have a hard time giving anything but praise.

I'm sure I can speak for everyone when I say, "We, The PinkArmy, salute you!"

I keep seeing my grammar mistakes and fudged edits. :/

Ha ha ha... no one's complaining about any grammar mistakes as far as I know Smiley In fact, its all praises six ways from Sunday. I think we just created a benchmark on Crypto land on how to throw together a whitepaper Smiley

Not bad for about 25 hours of work spread over 5 days I guess. Lol.

I am really looking forward to the whitepaper for the anon transaction.

As I understood it should be out sometime this week, it will be very interesting....Smiley

You should see me making compromises with the other action oriented members of the dev team for more time. They polished my rough draft and want to release it already (!!!). The content is there, it's just ugly to my eyes. I think I've bought myself until tomorrow to complete it, but after Tranzium signed off on the technical aspects of my rough draft I got a little desperate. Kind of a perfectionist. *shrug*

Anyway, there's you're little look through the looking glass into the current dev chatter. Transparency you know, and all that jazz.

So yeah... soon.

Thanks!

Thanks for the prompt reply. Given what is being stated now about CRYPT not actually having Anon, (http://www.reddit.com/r/CryptCoin/comments/28e8be/security_analysis_of_cryptcoins_cryptcast_feature/), if you genuinely do have something unique and functional with this method, you might well see the market responding finally.

Just read it, and the attached 'whitepaper'.

Gosh, I think I'm working too hard. And I'm having a really hard time not laughing. I think I need sleep.

Really though, anyone testing our system and reading the infographic and the 'creatively-written' blog post that I wrote that's featured in this thread knows what we're doing is way more sophisticated than what they came up with. The white paper I'm working on gets down into the nuts and bolts.

I mean, I'll be honest, what I'm writing probably wont be as sophisticated or professional as what the university students behind the MixCoin whitepaper came up with:
http://eprint.iacr.org/2014/077.pdf

But if this is what we're getting measured against:
http://cryptco.org/Cryptcoin-CryptCast-Anonymous-Whitepaper.pdf

Um... ... my current working, and very ugly rough draft is closer to the Princeton guys than that thing. And website anon is not a new thing, it's actually really old thing. Back in the day they used to call it a centralized bitcoin laundry. What's special about our implementation is not the website idea that people seem to be so happy to copy right now, but how the Pink Entanglement Engine core actually manages the whole thing behind the scenes.

*sigh* A couple days. That's all I ask. Goodnight everyone.
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Revamped PinkCoin (PC / PINK) PoS | Multipool | Fundraiser | Anonymous on: June 18, 2014, 08:18:01 AM
Can I enquire as to the progress being made with the Entanglement Engine Whitepaper? You stated that it should be ready by the end of this week, is this still the case?

Yeah. Tearing my hair out with it and only have a few hours a day to throw at it due to other real life obligations that I've had this week, but I took all that into account when I made my original estimate.

Basically yeah, everything's on schedule. I just forgot how much I hate writing papers, and it's been a really busy week for me to boot. Haha!
79  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Revamped PinkCoin (PC / PINK) PoS | Multipool | Fundraiser | Anonymous on: June 15, 2014, 06:15:28 PM
Any movement on the Whitepaper yet?

Whilst branded product giveaways are fun they don't exactly tackle the criticisms and concerns people are expressing about this coin, namely, that it is lacking substance and is simply an extremely well-marketed series of promises.

Were you to actually have a technically superior implementation of this coin's features, one that was demonstrably so by way of a Whitepaper that describes the back-end processes with the same degree of accomplishment as you market the front-end, this coin would have inherent value that would lift it out of the quagmire it has been sitting in for quite some time now, well, quite some time in cryptocurrency-land anyway.

Yup, we need a technical whitepaper detailing the entanglement engine. I think they are working on it.

Very sorry for the delay in getting the whitepaper out. The guys were a little caught up with the Father's day and other personal matters last couple of days. Sumgye will post an ETA on when we can have the whitepaper as soon as he wakes up. Thanks for being amazingly patient Smiley

With the current timeline I'm working to, I should have the rough draft done by tomorrow or Tuesday, that'll get sent over to our art guy for the visual aids while I get going on the revisions for the final draft. In all honesty, we're probably looking at Thursday or Friday to have that done.

It's worth noting, this isn't just a slap-dash 'here's basically how it works' thing. We've done that, more than once. This is a whitepaper, including research, references, and detailed technical information. Anyone looking for a general understanding is invited to take a look at this post I made while the project was still in development:

No offence – this is a truly honest question.

There's our fundraiser, the anonymous feature, active and very generous community, our tendency to avoid hyping upcoming features and ninja launch things, etc. Check us out on twitter @pinkcoin_ #pinkcoin as well as our irc chatroom https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.freenode.net?channel=#pinktalk.

There's a lot to love, and always more to come.
