61  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Looking for colocation ASIC miner hosting on: September 24, 2017, 02:22:51 PM

If you're renting and setting up your own hardware, you could host 3 miners for me perhaps?

I'll have to see what the numbers look like - mostly electricity and extra switches.  It's something I'd be open to considering, but probably not for a few months at best.
62  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Looking for colocation ASIC miner hosting on: September 24, 2017, 02:11:09 PM
It looks like all of the facilities are full, unless you want to add 100+ miners to their racks.  GigaWatt is opening more space in January.

I'm going to rent a warehouse and put about 20 to 40 miners in it.  I may consider hosting to pay the rent on the building, but we'll see what I find.
63  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 7nm miner thread on: September 24, 2017, 06:17:37 AM

That article makes me think less of them as of today no one has good 10 nm

I, too, am beginning to think more and more that they are dreaming as I look into their project.
64  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Home Insurance for Mining on: September 24, 2017, 01:16:49 AM
I think renter's insurance is around $10 per month ... depending.
65  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 7nm miner thread on: September 24, 2017, 12:57:10 AM
Germanium, like Silicon, is a semiconductor material.
Germanium was actually more common than Silicon in the early days of semiconductor manufacturing, but it turned out Silicon had a higher tolerance for heat AND was less expensive to make wafers for (silicon is literally dirt-cheap - a large proportion of "dirt" is Silicon, along with Aluminum and Iron).
... the relatively poor heat capacity is going to cause it's OWN issues.

BitFury reports to use immersion cooling on their website to nearly double their efficiency. This would probably give them an advantage to understand the tech well if the next generation is going to run hotter.  Seeing those numbers makes me think about researching into it more.

Even when 7nm reaches actual production - what are the YIELDS going to be like?

They are reporting 10 Th/s with 500W on the GMO 7nm chipset, so that's about double the efficiency of an S9 - not a large jump like 28 to 16/14nm - but still significant.

66  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Home Insurance for Mining on: September 23, 2017, 08:39:11 PM
My insurance company - and a second one - said my homeowner's insurance will cover the contents up to $10,000 in computer hardware.

Once expanding out of the house and into a warehouse, I'll get bonding and special insurance.
67  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitcoin Mining Setup/Power info? on: September 23, 2017, 08:13:06 PM
I have some Antminer D3's and Antminer S9's on order with Bitmain and I'm trying to figure out the power requirements/setup that I'll need. I've been investing for several months and opted to get some units in hand mine in addition to investing. I had an electrician come out and I just need to figure out how much I can run off a 220v circuit.

I had one come out to my place and I decided to rent industrial warehouse space instead.

1.) I've ordered the APW3++ units for my PSU but it doesn't come with the power cord. Is there a recommended or preferred power cord to use and what type of ends does it
need terminated - I plan to run them off 220V

One that's rates 15 or 20A would be best.

2.) How many S9, D3 or L3+ units can I get away with running off one 220v circuit?

The electrician who came out to my place said three.

3.) Is there an estimate of how much heat each unit will put off?

They measure heat in the amount of electricity consumed. A D3 should be around 1.2 K/w of heat.

I should have a total of 4 units to start but any input on heat expectations would be helpful for Spring/Summer use. My basement is about 1,800 sqft split with the miners on the side under my garage which is about 900 sqft completely open.

You'll want to make sure you have ventilation.  I had one S9 in my basement all summer and it was enough to keep the AC running in a 2600 sq ft place.  Another thing is that these suckers are LOUD!  I bought a pair of noise-canceling headphones and was looking at building a room with special noise dampering insulation.  I decided, instead, to rent out a place as I am upgrading to about 20 more units and want space for up to 40.

My initial thought regarding heat was to get some fans to push from one side of my basement to the other. I do have several windows so once at start getting more I can either install AC units or fans to push heat out. Any info would be helpful to a complete mining noob Wink

A/C will increase your operational cost. Each S9 runs at about ~6400 cfm and an L3+ is ~3800. I haven't got my D3s, yet. To keep your place at an even temp you'll want to multiple the cfm of each unit by the number of units you have.  If you have ten S9s, you'll want 64,000 cfm and ten L3+s would be 38,000 cfm.
68  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 7nm miner thread on: September 09, 2017, 01:33:58 AM
It sounds like there is some skepticism on the 7 nm.

Do you think the Japanese firm claiming they'll be out with a 7 nm next year is full of hot air or do you take them serious?
69  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-08] Japan’s Internet Giant GMO Launching Bitcoin Mining with 7nm Chips on: September 09, 2017, 01:30:47 AM
This is an interesting article because I have heard that 7 nm chips are out 2 - 3 years, but I can see their motivation and they'd have to do something to compete with BITMAIN.

The Quartz article has a snippet about selling to the public.  I've read the 10 nm Intel chips didn't help a lot and were unstable.  Canaan has a 14 nm chipset that's slightly less efficient than the 16 nm S9s.

It's a little interesting on whether, or not, to buy additional 16 nm ASICs.  However, the article has changed from the original 300 million to 3 million.  Three million dollars is not a lot for chip development.  Though call.  I think it may come out on beta next year, but I'm not entirely sold on them being out for purchase Q1 2018.

What do you think?  Are they going to come out and will you hold off to buy additional ASICs or get more 16/14 nm chips?

... most coins are already mined and simply ready to be sold.

circulated as a medium of exchange.

Meanwhile ... I am making nearly 2x profits by mining Bitcoin Cash and the BCore mempool keeps growing: https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#24h.

Lets hope that the rest of the miners haven't gone by then so far 1 has quit loosing too much money, ViaBTC hash rate is down 80% and over 90% is a unknown identity

I am pointing a little bit of hash power at Bitcoin Cash, but am playing a "let there be low hash power, so the difficulty increases, and price rise - leading to it being economically rational to mine the blockchain version of Bitcoin over the segregated version" game.  I, also, think we may see a short period of quick blocks on Bitcoin Cash if returns go from 0.0017 per TH/s to 0.0204 per TH/s and BTCBCH trading pair remains above 0.1.

Large fees and days to confirm (even with a 0.002 fee) will be treated with less optimism next time around.

72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Aug 1 summary on: August 07, 2017, 08:31:57 PM
Even more claiming bcc/bch through desktop or hardware wallet is so risky as their are scam wallets which steals your btc when you download the bch/bcc wallet and try to claim the free bch/bcc.

My Trezor worked great, just a couple days late.  They programmed in a "sweep", so all transaction history prior to Aug 1 12:20, was compressed into one.  It looks like I've only received one transaction instead of the entire history.  Pretty good for reducing Unspent Transaction Outputs.
73  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Aug 1 summary on: August 07, 2017, 08:21:04 PM
Perhaps I messed up here... but I sent all of my BTC back to Coinbase... made a new B-Cash wallet & imported my BTC wallet.dat file and it says I have 0 balance.

Oh, dear.  There are tools specific for this.

BUT... the final transaction to Coinbase hasn't confirmed at all since it happened on August 5th -- should I assume it will fail eventually and "return" those Bitcoin Cash coins when it does ?

They are two separate chains.  Coinbase is only going to give you BTC because they did the splitting internally and/or will provide the BCH credit before January 2018.  If you had them on Coinbase, during the split, then they have stated they will provide users with an equivalent amount of Bitcoin Cash ... later.

BCC up 66% on bittrex and stable...

Here's some bold stuff for the new readers.

BTC transfer time and queues are sh!t, they are too slow for the masses. BTC it self is like a 1995 year calculator. They need a fix. Remember the FOMO of ETH taking over BTC aka the swap? Well this is actualy legit, why? Becouse it's a fix with a CASH word in i. This will boost the total crypto's market cap by a lot and that's what they need, simple marketing!

I think this may actually put a positive on BCC / BCH in the media because it's a "break" or "upgrade" from Bitcoin.  It may provide breathing room for those who "couldn't buy Bitcoin", as banks had reported when moving into ETH.  They bought ETH simply because BTC had a "bad" name associated with it.

What you need to do to get out of a 9 to 5 roller coaster or become a millionaire step by step:

1) Buy as much BCC as you can, yes sell your home, rent a flat for 6 months, thank me later.
2) Print screen this post, copy paste and photoshop on it "my first million" print and frame it. Put it up to the wall or desk or under the pillow.
3) Go to Walmart and buy a pair of steel balls
4) Estimation 40,000.00 US per BCC by 2020.

If I have learned anything from crypto, it's to not underestimate its value.  I think the "BCore" maximalists, who sold all their Bitcoin Cash for Bitcoin - immediately - probably over-reacted in an effort to "clean" their Bitcoins and pretend they can still live in a world without this giant looming in the wings.

I'm mining both.
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling on: August 07, 2017, 07:50:04 PM
I read it as 100% means equal > 100 BTC more and <100 BCH is more

I based it that on their original "3.6x more ..." they had originally.

Often times percentages can be confusing because 100% can equal 1x and 200% can mean 2x.  I could be wrong.  I don't care.  It's 100% speculation, but I think BCore has until about November to segregate transactions or we'll see movement away from the fee markets.  If all tx fees are paid on "2nd layer" (brilliant term), then we may see hash power move.

People are not going to "mine at a loss" as a part of their business, as some have suggested. It's an energy-intensive industrial process to do at the top of game.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling on: August 07, 2017, 05:03:47 PM
I am mining Bitcoin Cash because I have Fear of Missing Out.  While everybody is selling ... I know it's not a popular idea, but this thing may work out.  Remember, very few people know about bitcoin.  We saw slight interest in Bitcoin - for the first time - from some institutions and the backlog created $100 tx fees.  The next time this happens, people may want to use this upgraded version.  The fact that everybody is running away makes me think perhaps it was irrational fear.

One thing is for sure.  This is going to really compress the timelines to make Segregated Witness and mesh networking fully functional.  But what happens if all the mining power leaves once the fees go to "brokerage channels"?  Bitcoin SW could experience very long block times ...

It's speculation, but I think this may be on to something over the next couple years.  I HODL'd all of my virgin BCH and am putting a little hash power to ViaBTC both as a hedge and because I am tired of this "unknown" entity mining all of the blocks.
77  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] Handling splits: UASFs, BIP148, etc. on: July 14, 2017, 02:24:31 AM
I have no way to download a desktop wallet, I can only use online services to keep my money.
Trezor has a great web interface.  You just need to be able to plug in a USB. Only keep on website what you are okay with losing.

Here is a good video:

Don't you think ... there is at least few trusted sites where our money can be safe?
Nope.
78  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] Handling splits: UASFs, BIP148, etc. on: July 14, 2017, 02:22:56 AM
How do I check to see if my wallet will hold both the currencies?

Trezor and Mycellium are the only two reported ready1.

I'll bounce around on their website but does anyone have any pointers? Thanks in advance!

Try to get your hands on a Trezor or Mycellium. Just make sure you don't hold them on an exchange, such as Coinbase.

I don't think anythings is going to happen, unlike a lot of the Internet trolls - spreading Uneccesary Fighting and Division - it's really, really technically unlikely to succeed.  It's simply a good idea to have a hardware wallet, like Trezor ... KeepKey ... or Bitbox.
79  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Adode does not accept Bitcoin payments on: July 11, 2017, 04:39:18 AM
I sent them a Tweet.  It'd be nice to continue focusing on adoption:

80  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Adode does not accept Bitcoin payments on: July 09, 2017, 09:56:52 PM
Accept Bitcoin or not is their decission, the one that you talked to is just a staff, they can not decide to accept Bitcoin for his company that he is working for so that you can do anything much with this.

Yes.  I asked how to get on their board agenda and she did not know.

My thought is it would benefit the entire community to have these companies involved and I would like to encourage a coordinated effort for the e-service providers to accept BTC.  It will make the network more secure (regulation) and increase price (change in demand curve).
