So no DDoS after all? Still funny Roggie jumped on this trying to advertise.

So when will the posts for the new week be counted? The date isn't even in the doc although we're at the end of the term. When can we wear off the signatures?

604  Economy / Speculation / Re: Did you sell above 400$? on: November 06, 2015, 05:40:03 PM
I sold about 10% of the bitocoins I sold above 400$, I'll probably reconvert to bitcoin if the price gets closer to 330$. How did your trading seem this period? Do you think the price will keep moving downwards or is the bullish mood still in place?
I suggest you sell a little more of your BTC and wait for the price rise. The market will definitely continue its bullishness. I am waiting for it to cross the $400 mark again sometime soon.

I will be selling if I see a rapid rise above 400 again, I just don't see the market being that bullish after the price started nearing 350 again.
605  Other / Archival / Where did the recent DDoS come from? on: November 06, 2015, 05:38:08 PM
So apparently someone DDoSed bitcointalk, any idea or speculation about where the attack came from?

I saw some rumors from reddit and most of those tend to center around the fact that Roger Ver saw this as a chance to promote his own forum while bitcointalk was inaccessible. Proof: https://archive.is/5nGUv

Could this be a coincidence? Do you think that Roger paid to DDoS bitcointalk in order to drive traffic to his new venture?
606  Economy / Speculation / Re: Did you sell above 400$? on: November 06, 2015, 05:49:56 AM
Oh is this the channel for Trolls and Weak Hands?  Cheesy

Not really, I seriously sold a percentage of my BTC for USD. Of course, that doesn't make me a dedicated hodler keeping his precious coins in a multisig paper wallet buried underground but I wouldn't think that trading of this type should lead to labeling somene as "weak handed". I have plans to re-buy BTC and even consider doing it now that we're near 350. Long story short, I'm doing this to increase the number of BTC I hold. In fact, If I were to buy now I'd have succeeded at that.

Can you try using a VPN clinent (or browser extension) and report back? The problem is likely originating from your provider and a proxied connection could likely help bypass that.

Let me know as well, I have a bitcoin-loaded debit card that could help me make any purchase.

I'm not sure whether I'm making the right assumption or not but it seems like there is a critical shortage of people in the IT/Bitcoin world with up to scratch security knowledge and or experience. Either that or those in charge of these exchanges/companies have their priorities screwed up or have no idea what they are doing.

I would have thought that all companies would have been out there recruiting the best security experts money could buy especially so when dealing with such large amounts of money/coins also in the light of all the recent big name hacks we've seen over the past year or two. If they were then clearly those they recruited do not have the necessary knowledge and or skills to implement proper security structures and or the hackers is just miles ahead of the industry, not sure which is which.

Can a person still place your trust in any form of online company/business where security is a necessity? I'm not that sure, seems like its just a matter of time with all of them.

Its for this very reason that I run for the hills when I see a site advertising 'bank level security', 'industry standard security' etc...

I'm seeing this from another side, competition is driving companies to make mediocre hires. If you look at how the market is shaping for exchanges, you'll see that the ones willing to run things legitimately, as a company and comply with the law, (i.e. are not a startup by a hobbyist) have to face competition that leads to small or no profits when starting up. They facilitate transactions worth millions but the % of that that they get as profit is negligible.

IMO, it's mostly a case of lack of profits due to competition rather than a lack of IT professionals understanding bitcoin. If the pay was good we would have been seeing more prominent security experts trying to understand bitcoin to enter the space.

still early days.

What is that supposed to mean?  Grin Will we reach a point were exchanges will have no vulnerabilities? A point where hacks and scams will stop happening all together? IMO we don't even have a downloadable wallet with security measures easily accessible to the non-advances user.

Well too bad the forum won't allow embedded videos :p

Guess I'll lock the topic now.
615  Other / Meta / Re: What's up with referral links? on: November 05, 2015, 03:58:25 PM
From my experience yes. IIRC the only time you are allowed to post a ref link is in a well rounded response. E.g. if someone asks for a good service for X and you reply with a well rounded review you may add a ref link if its clear that it is one.

I am not 100% sure on that though, but I think I read something along those lines. All in all, I would say if the ref link is worth it, put it in your signature and otherwise dont bother.
It depends on who you ask, but you are right. Only in extremely rare cases is a referral link allowed. The post has to be really constructive/useful and it has to contain both a normal and referral link. OP you shouldn't even try with them, as 99,9% referral links are considered as spam.

Thanks for this clarification, it's what I was looking for.
616  Other / Meta / Re: What's up with referral links? on: November 05, 2015, 03:23:15 PM
I get that making a topic/response only to share a referral link is considered spam, but then again, what qualifies as making a topic only to share a referral link?

Does writing a lengthy post about what a service is and how it works with a single referral link below the whole thing that considered spam too?
617  Other / Meta / What's up with referral links? on: November 05, 2015, 02:50:32 PM
Are they totally banned? Are there board specific rules or something?

I thought that posting it while making it clear that its a ref link was ok.

619  Other / Off-topic / Sergey Mavrodi interview in English on: November 05, 2015, 04:31:22 AM
Before you go on, I'm not trying to promote Sergey Mavrodi, or the schemes he creates, I'm posting this to help more people get informed.

Long story short, this man has created some of the most monumental pyramid schemes in history. His current scheme, MMMglobal is using bitcoin and people form all around the world are using it.

Watch this video from 2007 to see who he is, and  what he has done.
