Maybe I'm the last one to realize this, but I just thought it was pretty interesting.

you're not the first, but definitely not the last...

I am very surprised by the people who I'd think would know about BTC but still don't.  I met with an old friend recently who:

1.  is a brilliant engineer,
2.  works in the high-tech sector,
3.  is very interested about global economics, the Fed, money, etc,
4.  is very keen on technology that can shift our social structures,
5.  is young and has discretionary income to invest for his future.

But this person only had a tertiary understanding of bitcoin (until our meeting a few days ago).

So now, I presume he goes to his lab, shows all the others his Blockchain app and 0.1BTC I gave him, and then this gets a few more people hooked.

And this is happening every day in cities all over the world.....

i share your thinking. but i couldnīt resist to post this (donīt be offended) :

So people who know nothing about math, currency and investing (your intersection) will buy bitcoin ? :-)

thats a butt load of people!

that was my point ... Cheesy

A website going down was one thing but if the MERCHANTS keep getting busted left and right, then the network of trust will be broken and fear will take over, decreasing volume/demand. Get your fiat ready.

but the number of merchants isnīt limited to those who will experience heat from sr bust. there will be new ways, new trust. online drug trade will not come to an historic halt because of this. give it some time.

2009 Exchange RateThis is a featured page
BitcoinDuring 2009 my exchange rate was calculated by dividing $1.00 by the average amount of electricity required to run a computer with high CPU for a year, 1331.5 kWh, multiplied by the the average residential cost of electricity in the United States for the previous year, $0.1136, divided by 12 months divided by the number of bitcoins generated by my computer over the past 30 days.

Current Exchange Rate

Mid-Market Bitcoin Exchange Rate History
$1.00 USD   =   1,392.33 BTC   01/01-15/2010
$1.00 USD   =   1,451.83 BTC   12/31/2009
$1.00 USD   =   1,555...

These quotes from http://newlibertystandard.wikifoundry.com/page/2009+Exchange+Rate. Many of the links from 2010 are dead so the data may have been lost. Here is another link for 2010 http://newlibertystandard.wikifoundry.com/page/Exchange+Rate

Using the figure for December 31, 2009 I get at BTC/USD rate of 0.00068879. and a % increase for 2010 of 43554.9%

mhh... thanks for the good news. will change my sig accordingly. ty

It's not coming back guys...

Police Arrest 8 In International Silk Road Busts [npr.org]

drug trade cannot be killed. when they took down pablo escobar (which enterprise dwarfes sr), what had the us and columbian prohibitionists achieved ? columbian drug trade split up into thousands of small scale enterprises. they took out the big guy and ended up with a much harder to control hoard of little guys. more drugs were produced/sold/smuggled then before.

Yeah that is entirely the same thing as sending drugs to the consumer via postal service.

what i was trying to get across was that it will not get stopped by police action. in less than a year there will be more sophisticated ways to buy/sell drugs online. to use hillaryīs words: "there is just too much money in it"
technology will serve.

I am curious. What price data are you using for 2009 and 2010? BTC/USD closed at 0.300 in December 2010 and the "pizza valuation" placed the BTC/USD rate at 0.0025 in May 2010.  387% is way low for 2010 by several orders of magnitude. My understanding is a BTC/USD rate of about 0.001 in January 2010.

i just copied & pasted it from some other thread. i guess i should look closer. if you have data please share.

Sorry, i see how stupid you are. You do not know nothing about B2B business and about law in EU for companies.
BTW in my country is it criminal offense and police can block bank account for it. Next thing is company insolvency. For us KNC failed with September delivery. We did business based on September delivery. We do not accept changes and we want price compensation or refund.
I understand for fanboy it's hard to understand, because we are not sponsors. We are did not build company what need money theirs costumers and not to fulfill the terms. We must hard work to make money. We also do not live dreams about get rich by KNC. We only protect our moneys and investment based on September delivery where KNC failed. Next, no one us contact of this situation, no one wanted to solve, they only changed date of delivery. We have never seen such behavior. For us it is unacceptable. It is reason why do not want more do business with KNC. When we failure in business, we have to pay. As you can talk sheep what knows nothing about their rights. But it's your problem not our.

no need to get rude, or ? forum members that have opinions that differ from yours are not necessarily stupid.

so your the smart, tough business guy then. good luck with your criminal offense attitude. iīm glad iīm not your customer.

please enlighten me with the law in your country that makes it a criminal offense to be late a few days in delivery.

btw: insulting a person IS a criminal offense...

the only reasonable sentence i see is you asking for a refund. they should do that to keep you from hyperventilating.
lol

wtf does it mean ?

Hi,

We see your company is unable to fill its obligations. We can not accept change of delivery time without price compensation. You know very well how this month is important for the recovery of investment.
We do not trust your company anymore.

- we’ve done business based on September delivery
- your company lied about delivery and that it committed fraud
- your company illegally changed the delivery date without our agreement and without any compensation
- now your company is illegally holding money of our company

We ask for an immediate refund.

We are ready to publish everything and take any legal action with other companies in the same situation.

Thanks

jesus christ... delivering a few days later than communicated is not lying. an definitly not a fraud. it is not illegal to be a few days late.
when you pre-ordered you knew that you were purchasing a product that did not exist at all, not even a prototype. being a few days late after a production period of 4 months is nothing. any judge will laugh at you.

the only reasonable sentence i see is you asking for a refund. they should do that to keep you from hyperventilating.

disclaimer: i have ordered several jupiters with knc hosting and i am not amused they are still not mining. but accusations of lying and fraud and threatening with legal action is absurd.
