I have a simple suggestion for the forum to help stop spamming as mentioned in this topic. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=484259

My idea is to simply have a button next to the "Report to Moderator" that says "Mark as Spam". If more than 5 Sr.Member or higher click that button, the posts "hides". People have the option of viewing the post, but that post does not count towards the users post count.

I hope this makes sense. Feel free to add or propose your own ideas!

It does make sense, and I like the idea.  I really don't know a lot about these boards, but is it even something that can be implemented?

I'm not a fan of the new sig rules to try to curb spam as it hurts people like me who try to make constructive posts without spamming.  I think there should also be a penalty added to this system as well.  After so many "hides" the person receives a warning, suspension, etc.  However it works around here when it comes to penalties.

The only concern I see is that it could be abused. Obviously if it's SR. members and higher the chance would be a lot less for abuse, but its still a possibility.  It's a step in the right direction I think, and far better than the current solution.

If it does get abused, it could be changed to only hero members...

Sounds great in theory but it'll be almost certainly abused. You don't like that guys post? *mark as spam*. This guy is posting a lot but has a sig deal *mark as spam*. Limiting it to higher members won't really matter either.

The abuse is going to come from any membership level regardless of what you set it at. There are people childish enough on this forum to abuse such a function to have a post of another person they despise enough being hidden. This is more so for the people who are rather stubborn on their views and radical (there are quite a few of these people around) which would see these peoples opinions be hidden. As much as I dislike some of the crap that these people post it isn't spam.

Exactly.

A simpler solution would just to use the report to moderator button or implement a report as spam/off-topic one. Maybe they could go to different moderators who will look out for this.

I've never been much of a person who reports spam, but i did the first time earlier because I feel the spammers are screwing it up for the rest of us who are being "punished" so to speak.

I noticed that when I went to report it said something like "0 reports with 0% accuracy" or something close to that and it asked you to submit a reason before hitting ok.  So a few minutes ago I hit report just to see and it said something like 1 reported with 100% accuracy.  To me right there, that is almost self moderation for using the report feature.

I can't really see people reporting just for the sake of reporting if you have a crappy accuracy rating.  I'm sure the mods could even set it so if your accuracy rating dips below a certain level, you can no longer report.

I know going forward I will be taking more of an active roll in reporting. Not just for the sake of reporting, but to keep my accuracy level at 100% while hopefully lowering the spam around here.

Why would anyone want to even figure out a way to steal the coins? It would destroy Bitcoin, would it not?

How would it destroy bitcoin?

I figure it would just show how weak Bitcoin is security wise. I figure it would just destroy it's credibility.  I could easily be wrong, that's just the way I see it.

I voted a paper wallet put somewhere secure. I'd put in my safety deposit box at my credit union I deal with.
625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you were Satoshi... on: March 10, 2014, 03:27:04 AM
Title and question say it all. My vote is for "loudly destroy them" because it would notably increase the value of the other coins in circulation.

Considering how quick mainstream media is to try to slam Bitcoin every chance they get, I don't like the idea.  I think that would do a lot more damage than good.

Nice someone make list of it, but I'm afraid it is much better to just go mine instead of trying to get some "free" bitcoins Wink

But again, good job on gathering all of them. It is definitely nice, large and probably camplete list of those kind of sites Smiley

While I agree that it's unlikely to get any real coins out of these, they are fun to use if your sitting in front of the computer with nothing better to do.

I use http://freebitco.in/ just to see what the highest number I can get is.  I "rolled" a 9995 the other day and got 0.00225.  While it isn't much, but I'm holding out that one day Ill "roll" 10000 and get the 0.225, LOL!

The root of the problem is people spamming for higher payout from sig ads. What I suggest is to build a spammer list and anyone on that list must not be accepted into any sig ad campaigns.

How we build that list is debatable, but we can start with member marking spams posts with a spam button as suggested. Moderators can review the posts that member writes in a 2 week period. If spamming is consistent, give a warning. If warning is ignored, add the member onto the list for a set period, let's say a month.

Mods can also add a new 'Spammer' member group where no sigs are allowed and posting delay of 6 minutes, for all time king of spam  Cheesy

Layer after layer of fiddly and irritating rules, and the spammers will just create new accounts.

Considering how long it takes to get to the account level needed to earn anything decent.  I don't see it being an issue.  Leopards don't change their spots either, so I'm sure by the time they get to that level they will already have earned spammer status again.

I'm checking this forum daily for GOX theories and news, and I would die to know now, what I will know in a years time regarding what really took place there.

By each day it feels more like a family member that died conspicuously and I'm in the need for closure, more that the fact that i got wiped out, as so many else.

A lot of people keep digging, supplying news, so we'll get there eventually. Keep it up!!

sorry to hear you got wiped out.  That goes to anyone who lost a lot in gox. I really hope the truth comes out on this one as I don't buy the whole "hacked" theory.  I think the Bitcoin community needs closure as a whole when it comes to gox moving forward.  It would be a lot easier to sleep at night knowing an exchange is legit and can be trusted.
631  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn up to 2.4 BTC/Month by Posting on: March 06, 2014, 08:50:38 AM
will previous rates pay until 26th or 26th is counted in too?
Stunna already updates will give 0.0003 for all posts before 26 February and posts after this date got new rate

This is actually what he stated:

For the purpose of being as fair as possible any posts you made between the 18th-26th will be worth 0.0003

I read that as including the 26th.  I see someone mentioned we should count up until the sig rule was changed on the 26th, Stunna does not specify that.  I believe to be fair, it should include posts up until midnight on the 26th.  Clarification by Stunna would be nice regarding this.
632  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: USB mining with different brand miners simultaneously? on: March 06, 2014, 07:18:48 AM
Ok, so I have 1 Antminer (1.6 Gh/s) and 1 Asicminer 333 Mh/s.

I am using bfgminer. I have no problems getting the Antminer U1 to work. However, I can't seem to get the asicminer to recognize, let alone work with the antminer at the same time.

I am using a bat file:

bfgminer.exe -S antminer:all -o stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 -u xxx -p xxx --set-device antminer:clock=x0781

Can I add in a command to get the the block erupter to also recognize?

If not, should I run a separate version/bat just for the other one?

It looks like you're only telling bfgminer to run the antminer, you need to tell it to run both. Not sure how to make the miners run at at start up.  I just leave that part out.  When I open bfgminer I just hit M, +, all.

There must be a way to block certain members from the feature if they do abuse it.  Have some kind of trusted list of members or something that can use the feature. almost like giving them partial mod status or something.

I can see it having growing pain in the beginning that would have to be monitored closely, but over time I can see it being a very good system.

636  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: RBC closed my commercial bank account for having Bitcoin related activities. on: March 06, 2014, 05:25:50 AM
I just got a call from RBC (Royal Bank of Canada), they said that they closed my commercial bank account because my activities are related to Bitcoin.

I don't even sell or buy Bitcoins. I create physical encapsuler for physical cryptocurrencies (Not yet released).

I will close all my account at RBC and never deal with those scared crooks anymore.

I would suggest anyone having account with RBC and believing in Bitcoin to do the same.

I'm really angry right now !

Anyway, I needed to share that with you. Smiley

Would like to have your thought on that.

Wow, thats brutal.  I hate the banks here in Canada. In fact, I hate banks all together.  I find credit unions to be far better to deal with.  I was surprised how easy it was to send money to Virtex through my credit union.  I didn't think they would have Vogogo as a payee, but they did.  I haven't tried to pull my money out of virtex back into my credit union, so we shall see how easy that will be.

Credit Unions are definitely the way to go.
637  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Official CaVirtex.com Thread on: March 06, 2014, 01:37:38 AM
Cavirtex, are you serious having staffs working at home? Do you know what security measures required for a financial service business?

wow

I feel bad for all canadian members here.

I'm willing to bet it works that way with a lot of the exchanges. As long as proper security measures are taken, I don't really have a problem with it.
638  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: March 05, 2014, 03:33:10 AM
One of the reasons I really liked the fact we could use ads in the sig with colors was that I could easily scroll down and find my posts.  Now that my sig is generic like most, its a pain in the ass.

What are the chances that we will be able to use pictures with our profiles? I understand that there were issues in the past, but is there a chance they will be brought back?
639  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BTC price Dip, and Mining correlation? on: March 05, 2014, 01:15:44 AM
Mining speed on BTC Guild was 5,671 Th/s when BTC was above 580, now it's at 4845 TH/s and price is below 535. I keep seeing a pattern of it... just saying, I'm thinking some people stop mining when the price drops.

They might stop mining Bitcoin, but they likely go and mine other coins thinking they can make more off them by turning them into Bitcoin down the road.
