... and I changed the web UI to allow you to discretely set any frequency you like instead of the drop-down box, changing the default from 282 to 300 since I don't think anyone runs these at 282 any more. This will allow you to manually fine tune it yourself, should you find a sweet spot for your hardware.

thanks! You're the man  Smiley

Order placed.. Early 30's woot!

However the international shipping rates were higher than the published rates on the first page. They were almost double than the $89.95?

Note: Site looks well done and straight forward, smooth ordering process. Good job

Thank you.

The shipping fees for the assembled units will be more as their dimensions are larger than the chips. The shipping table on the front page is for chips only.

Thank you the clarification. That makes sense.

Are there any warranties for the board and components? (Excluding chips of course)
623  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: June 26, 2013, 08:04:13 AM
Mine just arrived too.

Unfortunately I now have nowhere to run it and I don't have time to find a local hosting method. I'll have to post it for sale. I'm pretty pissed.

For what its worth, congratulation  Smiley

What did you all fill in for the Product Tags on the order form??

626  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Ann] US based Avalon ASIC chips and assembly: 3,197 remaining on: June 25, 2013, 12:45:57 PM

I have not seen an e-mail yet -- not complaining just ensuring I'm not behind. Anyone else get it?

I have batch 3, 4 & 5 orders.

Batch 2, no emails yet. So I guess that covers batch 1-5. No worries, you are not alone  Cheesy
627  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 24, 2013, 07:13:54 PM

Is this a specifically a software problem(Cgminer) or does this indicate possible hardware damage due to overclocking?

Its a configuration/software issue. Seen this a couple of times as I was flashing within the various firmware. You can try flashing it back to the stock firmware. Hard Reboot, Cgminer configuration, change the speed settings, save & reapply settings.

Thank you ckolivas!

If you could add the 5Mhz steps from strombom into your firmware and the ability to change it via web interface, I will send you a tip of 0.5BTC  Wink

+1 for the 5Mhz baby steps. Would be nice  Smiley

When was the e-mail sent? I can't find any e-mail either. Did anyone receive the e-mail at all?

Nope, no emails on my end too
630  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon highly unstable hashrate on: June 23, 2013, 01:51:45 PM
We've received and set up two Avalon ASICs. We have no prior mining experience and only little experience with hardware in general.

One unit is running perfectly so far, while the hashrate of the second unit is highly unstable. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this? We checked the cables inside the cabinet, they're all safely plugged in, and all units inside are warm.

Are you running the latest firmware?

my sweet spot is 355 but I have only 2 modules  Avalon V1
I think that the hw rate is dependent on the controller + temp
I had 0,4% increase in hw with 370 but I have already a broken module so 355 is better

They will not work with the default official firmware if you just insert them inside. Tried and was unable to get some configs, I am assuming the firmware has to support certain speeds like 345, 355, etc

Btw, how did you break a module ?
632  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 23, 2013, 09:52:26 AM
Anyone know what the settings would be for an overlock to 345mhz? I was running these with the Strombom firmware and appeared to get lesser hw errors
I haven't included support for 345

Ok, so I guess strombom had some custom additional modifications in his firmware? In his firmware the 345mhz seems to be the sweet spot for me.

I am currently getting around a 2.3% HW error rate using the (hw/diff1shares+hw formula). Accepted shares 7555, HW 12034. Does this seem to high?

Thanks
I suggest you look at the hashrate reported and ignore the HW error count, as the cgminer driver for avalon doesn't count HW errors as part of the hashrate. That means that if the work is  valid, the hashrate goes up, so that is your ultimate measure of useful work. Even if your HW error count worked out to 5%, if your overall hashrate was higher then you'd be earning more. I don't know if hardware errors themself mean the device is more likely to suffer damage though, since I don't know the voltage relationships, so I can't say...

Thanks Noted.

However I have reverted to the strombom modified firmware because the 345mhz seems to yield the lowest amount of hw errors (0.39%) and about the same hash rate as 350mhz. The only caveat are the fans running at full speed that sound like a mini jet, but I would rather have the fans failed than the slight potential of shortening the life of the chips with an increase HW error rate.

Is there any modification that could be made to lower the speed of the fans (via ssh) or is a full recompile the only way?

633  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 23, 2013, 02:09:42 AM

My 3 units I am getting 0.94% uptime  1.5 hrs, 1.39% 10 hrs, 1.46% 10 hrs.  I am running 240V.

Yea, mine starts off with less than 1% but the builds up. I suspect it might be the heat. My temp3 is 48c.

I don`t know why but build 622 did not work (the hash rate was always 0  )

Try reapplying and Save the settings  under CGminer configuration and then hard power off/on
637  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 22, 2013, 04:49:41 PM

As you can see from my photos above I am running 0622 firmware. For the purpose of these tests I have opted not to use direct USB from a laptop.
....

Thank you!

I was running the strombom modded firmware earlier which was working fine but running at 100% speed sounded like a mini jet engine  Smiley

Here is an update to Avalon unit #114 from Batch 1 running the new firmware.

Power Input 120v Ambient Room Temperature 20 °C/68.0 °F on a dedicated 15a Circuit

Hi

May i know which firmware is this? From strombom or the latest 0622 firmware? I am unable to see option for changing the overclock to anything above 300mhz in the official 0622 testing firmware

Thanks

You need to edit /etc/init.d/cgminer.

Use Putty to connect to the machine
log in as root with the normal password

Code:
cd ..
cd etc/init.d
vi cgminer

i to insert

scroll to 43:300

change to

36:350

escape

ZZ

now you should be back to command prompt

Check that the edits were saved by doing vi cgminer again

Restart the Avalon by the power switch (not the reboot via web interface)

thanks!

Last thread hijack I promise but have you priced out the BOM yet? Some pricey support componentsit looks like.
Looks like about $200 for the PCB, assembly and components. That isn't set in stone yet, but should be close.

Hi

May I know how many chips will fit on the estimated $200 board? 8 chips?

I am trying to price this out
