641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: February 23, 2014, 10:19:57 PM
Will this not inevitably lead to a rapid price drop?
Cough, Mastercoin.
Yeah, Mastercoin has been a nightmare for investors.  To date it is 1000% of the buy-in price.  I was really expecting a much higher return performance than that.  I should have bought Dogecoin.  What was I thinking?
642  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: ChromaWallet (colored coins): issue and trade private currencies/stocks/bonds/.. on: February 23, 2014, 09:21:10 PM
Can you give a status update?

Please be advised that the Mastercoin OmniWallet is almost released and the new Distributed Exchange is coming on line March 15th.  That should excite you.  Plus, Mastercoin has about $4million in the bank remaining to continue the effort.  Should produce some interesting results in the coming year.
643  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: ChromaWallet (colored coins): issue and trade private currencies/stocks/bonds/.. on: February 23, 2014, 09:12:16 PM
As you see, I failed...

...we made very little progress...

...sadly things didn't go well....
Can you give a status update?
Status update: Chroma Wallet died a long time ago.  Once Killerstorm spent more time bashing Mastercoin than developing Colored Coins, it was clear he knew he could not ever finish.  Now, the only whimper we hear are the last gasps of life. Status: Colored Coins are still dead.

Time to get some guns?
Time to get some more guns.
645  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Block Erupter Cube fuse MELTING!? on: February 08, 2014, 05:09:24 PM
Shouldn't the fuse blow before becoming hot enough to melt the plastic?
No problem.  Just take the fuse out.  Roll up some aluminum foil into a shape which bridges the poles.  Remove all plastic bits.  Don't worry if it runs a little hot - at least it won't melt this time.
646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hasta la vista Apple! on: February 08, 2014, 04:57:17 PM
I have spent WAY too much at the Apple Store and bought WAY TOO MANY Apple products. In fact, I've purchased every Apple product and multiple of some, over the years. Yes - every. Every iPhone, every iPad, iPod, Mac, Macbook, Apple TV, you name it. I've made apps for the App Store.

I was just about to purchase the new "coffee can" Mac Pro when this whole thing happened with Apple and Bitcoin. That changed everything for me. I realized that I've given that company way too much of my money. Speaking to a friend of mine he convinced me to walk away from the "coffee can" and to build my own. So that's what I'm doing - and I'm paying for it with bitcoin.

I selected everything that I wanted for the computer from this site (thanks to my friend for the link):
http://www.tonymacx86.com/406-building-customac-buyer-s-guide-january-2014.html
Then I filled up my Amazon shopping cart with my selections.
Then I went to Gyft - on the browser of my iPhone, just to spite Apple - and purchased Amazon gift cards, paying with Bitcoin through the Blockchain app.
Then I went back to Amazon and paid for my order. It should arrive (thank you Amazon Prime) on Tuesday. That's when I'll build my hackintosh monster!

It cost me a total of 3.7 BTC.

(That's before my addition of BFL Monarch cards, when they start shipping in a few months...)

Now excuse me while I go get an android :-)
I have always hated Apple - hate them even more now.  Welcome to real computing.  Enjoy the Android.
647  Other / Off-topic / Re: The End of Bitcoin (this is real) on: February 08, 2014, 04:55:17 PM
i just *discovered* the new Bitcoin:  the US dollar!!

this "dollar" can be traced infinitely, all transactions can be reversed.  and each is a "reserve" note for 1 dollar (similar to a satoshi, but worth a LOT more)    Smiley
Good luck with that.  At least you won't struggle with widespread adoption problems like the bitcoin guys are dealing with.
648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Florida men arrested for trading bitcoins!!!! on: February 08, 2014, 04:37:45 PM
Sounds like textbook entrapment...
How could that be entrapment.

'textbook entrapment' - been reading a lot of textbooks lately?  lol.  Most people have no idea what 'entrapment' means legally.  When the police 'trap' people, that is not entrapment - that is their job.  'Trapping' people is OK.  Unfortunately, most people think that when a cop traps you, it is not fair under the legal principle 'entrapment'.  In reality, these have almost nothing to do with each other.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The worlds first Bitcoin master thesis about the ecosystem - in depth analysis on: February 08, 2014, 03:39:40 PM
Thanks for your comment. It was a requirement to write it in English, so no choice from my side.

I hope the content makes sense anyhow.
Yeah, alright.  I get that then.  If you had to do it in English and English isn't your best - then what you've done is awesome.  I sure the hell couldn't write a study as complete in a second language.  Sorry to be too critical.  But I still would have hired a proof reader before handing it in.
650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The worlds first Bitcoin master thesis about the ecosystem - in depth analysis on: February 08, 2014, 03:32:42 PM
Hello fellow Bitcoiners!

Probably should have done it in your native language.  English isn't your strong suit.  In the first three sentences I found these constructions to be at least awkward:
1) "and has been in nearly any financial media"
2) "near no fees for transactions"
3) "The thesis has looked at"

This is a terrible run-on sentence without clear subject...

"Bitcoin is interesting because of its properties: near no fees for transactions, anyone without
limitations can get an account and be a part of the global economics and it is an interesting
technological piece of work with many features built in which potentially revolutionize the financial
system according to some of the interviews."

Dude, you should have stayed with your natural language.

What university would accept that as a master thesis?

What kind of master program would permit a document laced with silly colored graphics which make it look more like a glossy marketing piece that a legitimate university study?
651  Economy / Speculation / Re: i put almost all my money and lost a lot on: February 07, 2014, 08:16:26 PM
Thank you for the warning. But I put in a reasonable amount and made a fortune. So...
I put $20,000 when bitcoin was $17.  If I had the notice the OC provides today - I sure wouldn't have done that.  I was unaware this is all going to nothing.  Boy, do I regret my stupidity!!
652  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Mtgox locked my account with $40k because of ever used Bitinstant on: February 07, 2014, 05:52:34 PM
Either way, MtGox will be dead soon enough.
Was dead about two months ago.  They are just telling those who can't read the signs now.
653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First great article on BTC by FT on: February 06, 2014, 01:00:12 PM
Registration wall.

same here.

OP, can you post the article?
I hate the FT.  No matter how interesting a story they might have, I never waste time fussing with their little tricks to get my e-mail so they and all their friends can spam the hell out of my inbox.  Fuck the FT.

'To start, Malwarebytes will be accepting Bitcoin for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro. Malwarebytes products that can be purchased with Bitcoin will have a Bitcoin logo on the page. Malwarebytes will be using Coinbase as the payment platform.'

Another great product / company who realizes that bitcoin is for real.  Nice.

656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investnment Advice on: February 05, 2014, 05:59:34 PM
I asked for a loan to resolve some personal expenses and I still have about $1200 left, I have the intention to invest this money and with all the cryptocurrency uproar I do believe this new universe is probably the best place to invest this money, (if I'm wrong, let me know)

Now, I have two main ideas, either I purchase $1200 worth of bitcoins and hold on to them expecting a higher capitalization, or I invest in mining equipment to mine some altcoins.

I currently have a gaming rig with a R9 270X card, which, for mining purposes is profiting me about $20 a week.

What would you suggest me to do?
For sure you should buy Dogecoin.  This way, you'll make enough money to pay back the loan AND still have some left over for investments next week.
657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Across the pond on: February 05, 2014, 05:57:56 PM
All,

Long time lurker first time poster. For those of you that don't live in California you can stop reading.

I'm building a really exciting Bitcoin startup based in the UK along with 8 others. I'm not going to announce anything yet as we're still in stealth mode. However, I'll be in Santa Clara from the 8th of February (for a week). Would anyone be interested in meeting up? (I am going to the http://www.meetup.com/Silicon-Valley-Bitcoin-Users/events/162712692/ meetup on the 11th) I'd really like to experience the Bitcoin scene out in California!
lol!  In California you will find no fewer than 100,000 guys building 'exciting stuff' just like you.  Unfortunately, just like you they won't tell you anything (they won't 'announce anything yet' about what they are doing.  Have fun!!!  Trust me, there is no shortage of guys with great ideas about bitcoin - and there are very few guys who have time to listen to your story - unless you taunt them with some sexy stuff first.  Wanna bet nobody responds to your offer to meet blind?
658  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: 300 BTC Coding Contest: Distributed Exchange (MasterCoin Developer Thread) on: February 05, 2014, 05:10:13 PM
the project should buy...
the Foundation does not...  ...purchase hardware or otherwise pays for operational costs
Got it.  Agreed.  But the project is much larger than the foundation.  The foundation should just continue doing what it does.  But there might be another aspect of the project which could support such a transaction.  Otherwise, 'open source' projects would be severely weakened by an inability to put in place hardware needed to advance the goals.  Maybe the 'foundation' could propose schemes by which this sort of matter might be handled.

I am thinking a Master Protocol Advancement Corporation incorporated in Haiti where prosecutors are less likely to be concerned with its activities - the corporation being non-profit and operational for getting things done which need to be done - without exposing the foundation to any tricky situations .
659  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: 300 BTC Coding Contest: Distributed Exchange (MasterCoin Developer Thread) on: February 05, 2014, 01:08:48 PM
Guys; timing sucks but Bitcoin-ruby has a problem with one of the transactions in the latest blocks and is stuck. To add to the problems the migration in the new version of Bitcoin-ruby is having problems running on my small-ish SSD because of lack of space.

I'm trying to discover what other options I have to recover the database but it looks like the downtime might last a little longer.
Obviously, the project should buy Tachi some nice equipment and necessary backup apparatus so this same issue doesn't cost the MSC community two days of reset time in some future date.  Ron?
660  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MasterCoin: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: February 05, 2014, 12:41:06 PM
I have a question: Does Mastercoin have a core development team or a core developer or is everything/the majority of the development done via bounties?

They have at least 3 full developers (some are still on transition) and 1 full time scientist now. JR has already been full time too.

Can you tell me who they are? I thought JR would not be working on Mastercoin anymore (at least not full time)

And by transition you mean to are still in the process of getting on the team?
Transition means Tachikoma and his friend are now working on MSC with 20% of their time and will be full time by April. JR promised to be full time after sold some part of his MSC.
Are you the new MSC hater - trying to cast bad news at every distorted angle?  Slanting every fact in its worse possible way?  wtf?  Do you somehow think this will make CounterParty stronger if you continue to post here complaints about MSC management?  CounterParty lives/dies on its ability to bring good services to people.  By posting that the MSC coding team is somehow insufficient in your estimation will not promote or better counter party.  Are you the new KillerShitStorm or maybe a sock puppet of Killer who merely wants to come to MSC to spread FUD.  Why do you guys think spreading FUD will improve your project?  Maybe you think this will cause people to sell MSC and buy counterparty?  Even if they did, that will not make CP technically stronger.  The one who develops a good technical program will win no matter if you attempt to convince the community that JR is not working full-time or not (btw - JR is full time now.)  Same with Tachi - for all intents he is nearly fully dedicated now while having some responsibility to his old job.  He and others are 'all in'.  Now go fuck yourself.  Again.
