6561  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: New gaming site in the works. on: May 05, 2012, 06:07:49 PM
I have a gaming site in the works that I would like to share with everyone. I'm just now getting started on it, I'm in the planning stage. It's based on skill, rather than chance. Popular games like Counter Strike, War/Star Craft, Soldier of Fortune, and many others. I would have to host the gaming servers myself, or at least pay someone else to, and I would have to install anti-cheat software on each server to ensure fairness of each game. This is what I really need help with. I used to have a server for Jedi Knight II, but that was ages ago. I need someone who knows about hosting gaming servers, or can at least find out more about them... the cost, the anti-cheat software, etc. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Smiley

From what little I know about it: Web-based games of skill will get visited by bots that cheat.   Games that require software to be installed don't grow very fast.

One type of eGaming (games of skill) is Starcraft.  Here's are sites for it.

In the bitcoin world since it is all play imaginary tokens, there is no income tax, corporate tax, capital gains, or dividend tax.

In which jurisdiction is this the case?  In the U.S., this certainly is not true.

The download is an .rtf.  .pdf will be more useful to many.

You could also put it for sale on CoinDL.  It has a category for eBooks.

6565  Other / Off-topic / Re: Another Person 2 Person Payments (e.g., PayPal, Dwolla) network: PopMoney on: May 05, 2012, 07:14:12 AM
the question you need to ask yourself is: where is it accepted?

Where is what accepted?  If you are referring to PopMoney, it is P2P -- anyone can receive PopMoney and it ends up escrowed by PopMoney until the recipient claims it which then withdraws it to the recipient's bank account.  The problem isn't receiving the problem is sending, as so few banks offer it.  Oh, and the other problem is that it is ACH and thus reversible when fraud is declared.
6566  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Two Bitcoins at the Price of One on: May 05, 2012, 07:00:59 AM
The problem is: there seems to be a market need for "fast transactions" which in BitCoin case mean 0-confirmation transactions. One way out of this is to declare that BitCoin is not a tool for this. It was not designed for 0-confirmation transactions and anyone trying it is pushing square pegs into round holes.

Another way is to explore what can be done to make 0-confirmation transactions safer. When an idea is proposed, one has to explore what can be done to exploit it.

Yes, and they seem to have ignored the basic recommendation where step #1 is start the node using -nolisten and step #2, have the node explicitly connect to well known nodes (e.g., pool miners).
The problem should then essentially be marginalized to irrelevance, though there is more that can be done, as is described here:

So how about this:

1) Only connect to nodes you trust (like major pools).
2) Don't allow incoming connections
3) Modify the bitcoind not not forward your tx to your peers.
4) Modify the bitcoind to halt tx if double spend is detected.
5) Write an API which lets you know what % of hashing power has your tx in their memory pool.

Then you can see which pools have notifies you of the tx and decline tx if double spend is detected.

Hello,

I'm here to answer the ad for a new site software. Are bids still accepted? I'd like to send one soon.

For the BitcoinTalk forum?  Yes, bids can still be submitted.

6568  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS Prepaid Wireless PIN codes (4% to 8% off face value) 20+ carriers on: May 05, 2012, 06:41:27 AM
Real Time Reload (RTR) directly adds funds to account without a pin (pinless).  You provide cellphone # (include area code) and funds are directly added to account (usually within seconds).  No pin codes to lose or have stolen.  Boost mobile is ONLY available as a Real Time Reload.  For Verizon, T-Mobile, and Virgin Mobile both RTR and traditional pin is available.

Prepaid plans only though, huh?  Any chance that would also include post-paid some day?  (even if there is no discount?)

Also in the works (waiting on application aproval) are giftcards (130 brands to include xbox live time), virtual VISA account #s, and reloadable VISA cards.    If there is any interest in international long distance phone cards let me know (include country).  I am also trying get Billpay services (pay 4,000+ billers in the US) and ability to issue Greendot MoneyPaks.

Wow, just awesome!

I personally have been waiting for 3 checks

There are multiple methods to sell your bitcoins.  Have you considered CampBX?  They too are in the U.S. and offer as one with the withdrawal methods, to send a check.
6570  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Addresses for BTC change on: May 04, 2012, 11:17:48 PM
Could we assume that EITHER the person made those two payments in one tx to the same address OR they for sure own that address?

I believe so.  I can't think of any way else that such a transaction would occur.
6571  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - Verified rolls, up to 65,000x winning on: May 04, 2012, 11:07:29 PM
3. Mining attack: Place a bet as usual.  If you lose, try to put a double spend of your bet transaction in the next block you generate.  With a few percent of the network hash power, you could overcome the house edge and make a profit.  Any decent sized mining pool could profit from this attack now, regardless of betting limits.

Yup, that make sense.  You'ld get away with it just one time though before detection (presuming SatoshiDice is detecting these when they occur.)  I doubt a pool would risk the negative goodwill on such a stunt.

I suppose the service could apply a delay before the payout transaction when winning wagers are exceed a certain threshold to prevent this, and then also to limit total payouts per-block to a certain maximum, for instance, to limit the potential loss that could occur.
6572  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Addresses for BTC change on: May 04, 2012, 09:37:27 PM
Is the change address always one bitcoin address per tx? I'm interested in the satoshi client as well as any others out there. Do any clients return change to multiple similar addresses?

What I'm specifically looking for is say someone spent:
1 BTC to address A.
.1 BTC to address B.
.1 BTC to address B.
In one tx

When I look at the tx output can I safely assume that address B is NOT an address used for change but part of a payment somewhere?

The Bitcoin.org (Satoshi) client would pull an unused address for the change.  If you were to explicitly add as an output the next address so that it would match the same one the change would go to, I suppose the client isn't set up to detect that as a used address and you technically could end up with the transaction looking like above, where B is both a payment address and one used for change in the same transaction.  But that would require you to explicitly choose that address.

Other clients let you choose what addresses the change goes to, so yes -- the above can occur if you explicitly choose for it to happen that way.

And no, Micon, seals with clubs 10btc freerolls are not enough to live on.

But, you can chat with othe players while playing.  Chances are one of them wants to (or knows someone who wants to) trade P$ for BTC or vice-versa.

6576  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitLotto raffle is 1 yr! May 2 was over *385 BTC or 1,925 USD* Next is June 1! on: May 04, 2012, 07:36:56 PM
Suggestion for addition to the BitLotto compatibility list:

Blockchain app
 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=piuk.blockchain (Blockchain for Android)
 - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blockchain/id493253309 (Blockchain for iOS)

Both of these use the same wallet as the web-based hybrid wallet on Blockchain.info:

6577  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - Verified rolls, up to 65,000x winning on: May 04, 2012, 07:33:25 PM
Which android wallet should I get to wager with?

Same ones as on the BitLotto Compatability List:

 - http://bitlotto.com (click on link on left side)

BitcoinSpinner
 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.miracleas.bitcoin_spinner

Bitcoin Wallet by Andreas Schildbach
 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet&hl=en

Blockchain
 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=piuk.blockchain
 - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blockchain/id493253309
 - http://Blockchain.info/wallet  (Web access to same wallet)

Hosted ewallets (e.g., Mt. Gox mobile, PayTunia, FriendlyPay app, etc.) are not compatible as the payouts from Satoshi Dice are returned to the sender's address and that's not a feature supported with hosted ewallets.
6578  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - Verified rolls, up to 65,000x winning on: May 04, 2012, 05:35:40 PM
That is a good idea.  I could update a file in S3 on a daily basis with all the released secrets thus far.  Would that do?

Sure would.
6579  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Wiki: Looking for administrators (step 1/2) on: May 04, 2012, 05:30:34 PM
Ha, we are being blackmailed.  The latest spams read:

"To encourage less bulk wiki article creation, please send bitcoins to [...]"

Of course, when you reward something you get more of it, so please nobody honor this blackmail request.

But this is a problem that does not seem to be going away on its own.

And certainly this wasn't created just for the Bitcoin.it wiki.  I wonder how many other wiki admins are pulling their hair out (and blaming Bitcoin instead of realizing that wikis are a collaboration system vulnerable to this type of automated attack).
6580  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - Verified rolls, up to 65,000x winning on: May 04, 2012, 05:11:06 PM
So that there is an independent copy of the hash.keys file, I put a copy up on github.

Would there be a list of the keys and the secrets and each secret is published (i.e., 24 hours after it expired)?

I ask this as if for some reason the service is offline, there is no other way to verify the results for a previous transaction as the secret is used in that verification process.
