A group of researchers carried out a test to investigate the randomness of fair coin flips. They collected 350,757 coin flips, recorded the results, and concluded that when a person tosses a coin in the air, it has about a 51% probability of landing on the same side it started. When you pay a Monero address, you actually use that Monero address to generate a one time address known only to you and the recipient.
Which means that I can give you the primary address and it will generate a new address behind the scenes for every transaction? You can do this using the main Monero wallet CLI or GUI. What software are you using?

There's the risk of getting scammed/robbed by an unknown person. In some sense, CEXs are safer because you're dealing with a "trusted entity". I guess that's why most people prefer a CEX over a P2P exchange.
What if you deposit FIAT, buy BTC and then the CEX blocks withdrawals? You take this risk, even if you don't realise it you depend on CEX being honorable, which is not always the case. |

A multisig backup is like a singlesig backup. You can use it for various reasons, but most importantly to never lose your funds. Imagine having one wallet (A). You would keep a backup of the seed phrase somewhere. Correct? Now imaging having one more wallet (B). You will also keep a backup of the seed phrase somewhere. Those two wallets can construct a multisig wallet where one (1-of-2) or both of them (2-of-2) are needed to sign a transaction. In fact, I don't think a 1-of-2 is useful, because you can use a singlesig wallet instead. 2. Or do you always require third party permission(s) in order to sign for every normal day to day transactions you want to make?
There are basically 2 options: 1. you control all the cosigners (keys). 2. you control most of the cosigners and there is also one entity (company) holding one of your keys. This is called collaborative custody. I always use option (1). |

Binance, like every other CEX is loved by governments since it is the only way to monitor peoples' transactions. People do KYC to use them, so it is very easy to know that person X bought Y BTC on date Z.
Normally I don't follow the news, I don't read articles etc. It seems interesting, I don't suppose Binance will crash though.

I've said many times before that Monero is the only coin other than Bitcoin which I own and use, and the only altcoin I consider not to be a shitcoin. It shares many of the good things about bitcoin - decentalized, PoW, no premine, etc. - while also being far more private if used properly. I don't think it will ever replace bitcoin, but I also think it is one of the only altcoins which will continue to grow and continue to be used many years in the future.
Me too, I hold bitcoin and monero personally. I also run a Monero node, except for the 2 Bitcoin nodes that I also run. I also use Monero swaps with Bitcoin for more privacy. (thanks to you who pointed it out to me). I have some difficulties with monero, that I think can be addressed in this topic: 1. I don't properly understand the address system it has. It supports stealth addresses. I have seen in various places on the internet that with Monero you can always use the same address and don't bother with changing addresses, like in Bitcoin. It seems strange though, because monero, like bitcoin uses UTXOs and not balance system like Ethereum. 2. I can't sign transactions offline, no matter how hard I tried. Perhaps if I bought a Trezor model T, I would be able to do so, but for the time being, I can't. 3. I am not sure whether the variable sized blocks are good or not... I haven't come to a conclusion yet, but I would like to hear your thoughts. Also Governments, CEXs, the Press, Twitter etc, HATE Monero. This is another reason why I love it. |

Προσωπικά δεν με απασχολεί ιδιαιτέρως... Αν κάποιος μου χάριζε 10 BTC, δεν θα με ένοιαζε αν ήταν από KYC/CEX. Ποιός θα έλεγε όχι; Αγορασμένα στο όνομα του (έτσι θα φαίνεται στην chain analysis), αλλά στην πραγματικότητα δικά μου. Τι κατάφερε το KYC; Μια τρύπα στο νερό.  Για αυτό λέμε ότι δεν έχει 100% ακρίβεια, αφού δουλεύει με heuristics στην blockchain. Αν θες να τα ξεπλύνεις (εγώ δεν καίγομαι), υπάρχουν πάντα και οι mixers.  Πρακτικά εγώ δουλεύω ως εξής: 1. αγοράζω μόνο από non-kyc. 2. κάθε αγορά ή και απλή συναλλαγή πάει σε ξεχωριστό address σε ένα hot wallet. 3. τα utxos που έχω στο hot wallet έχουν 3 πιθανές καταλήξεις: α. γίνονται mix μέσω whirlpool ή joinmarket και πάνε σε cold storage wallets (singlesig, multisig, paper wallets). β. πωλούνται μέσω BISQ ή μέσω Robosats ή μέσω ραντεβού από κοντά (σπάνια), peer-2-peer. γ. ανταλλάσσονται για XMR μέσω BISQ. Οπότε ούτε μένα με νοιάζει η προέλευση τους, απλώς μη αγοράζοντας μέσω CEX ξέρω σίγουρα ότι κανείς δεν έχει τα στοιχεία μου και τη γνώση ότι έδωσα X ευρώ για να πάρω Y coins. (Φυσικά ο P2P partner μου, γνωρίζει για την αγορά). Δε το γνωρίζω. Από ανταλλακτήρια προτείνω μόνο Bisq (δεν υπάρχει πιο αποκεντρωμένο) και Robosats (υποστηρίζει lightning).

Keep in mind, it's OK security not great security. If someone knows you have one (say they saw you using it) then they know to look for it. Or keep hitting you with the $5 wrench till you give it up.
A full HW wallet like the coldcard that you can have a 'duress pin' is still a better option for larger amounts of BTC.

I have a satscard and it's OK not great. Actually I have several of them. The concept is sound but with 3 different phones with I found the NFC on the satscard is weak at best. Put it here, put it there, put it someplace else and then it sees it.
Other NFC cards I use with the same phones (non crypto) are a lot more forgiving.
Like the concept.
Nunchuk is OK as a wallet. It works, no issues so not much to say in that regard.

Δυστηχώς, στις περισσότερες των περιπτώσεων ναι, αντιμετώπιζα και συνεχίζω να αντιμετωπίζω δυσκολίες. Το να ζήσεις με BTC είναι εφικτό, η αλλαγή όμως σε fiat παραμένει σε μεγάλο βαθμό αναγκαία. Αυτό όμως δεν σημαίνει πως δεν ζεις με BTC επειδή τα μετατρέπεις / πουλάς για fiat. Πιστεύω πως όσο διεκδικείς και ζητάς τις οποιοδήποτε συναλλαγές σου σε BTC, τόσο περισσότερο βάζεις και τον κόσμο σε σκέψεις και του δημιουργείς το κίνητρο να μπει στη διαδικασία αναζήτησης.
Το βασικό πρόβλημα για μένα είναι πως ο κόσμος φοβάται το P2P. Δεν θέλω να κάνω hijack τη συζήτηση. Αλλά νομίζω ταιριάζει να αναφερθεί ότι ο κόσμος για κάποιο λόγο εμπιστεύεται μόνο exchanges. Δεν θα την αγνοήσω, δεν το συνηθίζω άλλωστε. Απλά δεν θα γίνω συγκεκριμένος. Ότι και να σου πω, όλα προγραμματίζονται ανάλογα το τι και ποιός είσαι, επαγγελματικά μιλώντας αλλά και σαν οντότητα (κυρίως οικονομική). Είναι σαν το καλό κουστούμι. Για να το ράψεις σωστά, πρέπει να ξέρεις τα μέτρα του πελάτη. Γενικά, αν είσαι freelancer ξεκίνα ζητώντας την αμοιβή σου σε BTC. Είναι πολύ εύκολο αυτές τις μέρες, όχι όπως μερικά χρόνια πριν... Εξαιρετικά! Όμως δεν μπορώ να μη ρωτήσω κι άλλη μια δυσκολη ερώτηση. Γενικά εγώ αγοράζω και πουλάω μόνο P2P. Επειδή ακόμα δεν είναι εφικτό να ζήσεις μόνο με ΒTC και πρπεει να πουλήσεις για να πάρεις ευρώ (δυστυχώς), είναι εύκολο για σένα; έχεις αντιμετωπίσει δυσκολίες σε αυτό το κομμάτι; |

Εννοώ πως δεν πληρώνομαι για όποια εργασία μου σε €, $ ή όποιο άλλο fiat νόμισμα. Μόνο BTC ή άλλο major alt. Φυσικά και δεν έχω σταματήσει και ούτε πρόκειται. Όλοι piece by piece μπορούμε. Ζημιά είναι για εκείνους ότι κάνεις εκτός του συστήματος που έχτισαν. Πολλά συγχαρητήρια. Αν νιώθεις άνετα και θες, θα μου άρεσε να μου έλεγες μερικούς τρόπους να αμοίβεται σε BTC. Κοινώς, δεν ξέρω πόσο εύκολο είναι να βρεις "εργασίες" που να σε πληρώνει κάποιος σε ΒΤC.
