InstantX will accelerate the mixing process but only if there are other clients available for mixing. If you've already anonymised your coins as much as you would like, why would you leave your wallet unlocked to anonymise more and pay more fees? Liquidity providers are a short-term fix in my opinion. Although there is a big incentive to run a masternode with 1000 DRK, what incentive is there to provide 1000 DRK or more for mixing? I want to set up some masternodes but have been unable to anonymise enough coins to set one up. InstantX will NOT accelerate the mixing process. I figured out a way to use the entire masternode network in a completely 100% decentralized way, but the trade off is it will require inputs that have at least 5 confirmations. However, this means that when sending a transaction, the 10 voting notes are going to be unique, so the system will be very difficult to DDOS (you'll theoretically have to DOS all masternodes to succeed). However, this means you can't send multiple transactions one after another based on InstantX, they have to be a few minutes apart. The really nice thing is this will scale now, to HUGE levels with no effect on the network. Darksend just needs more users, we can bootstrap it with the liquidity providers and it'll take a few hours for people to complete their mixing. Eventually when we have enough users, we can disable the liquidity providers and Darksend will get to the point where it just takes a few minutes. It just needs 2.5 minutes per round, so 4 rounds (which is rather good privacy) could theoretically take just 10 minutes. I'm going to record a demonstration today of InstantX and put it on YouTube, this technology is really amazing. I can't wait to hear what people think of it. looking forward to it If Evan's obvious enthusiasm and love of the project (why I invested) carry over to video, this is going to be a very good thing.  yeah i agree .. and we can use it as teaser to promote Darkcoin further |

I think the incentive for leaving coins for mixing is if you don't have enough for a MN. For instance, I have 800DRKs left and that is not enough for an additional MN, but if leaving the 800 allow me to gain some small amounts of DRKs, then I'll go for it. Also, you don't need to anonymize your 1k DRKs to set up a MN, just set it up. I know that I don't need to anonymise to set up a masternode but I prefer to do it before setting one up and leaving them there for a long time. At the moment it probably wouldn't be too difficult for some exhanges (or agencies which have access to their data) to conduct some basic blockchain analysis and establish that the funds used for the masternodes belong to me - which I don't believe is necessary. The concerning thing is that I can't do it after days of trying. I imagine there must be others interested in anonymising similar amounts before setting up masternodes but I haven't got past one round of anonymisation. The implication is that anyone wanting to anonymise large amounts will be waiting for a long time, and potentially lose interest if they are unsuccessful. I think the success of Darkcoin will have more to do with those mixing large amounts, than those mixing smaller amounts. But mixing 1000 is like mixing 10 times 100 from a wallet point of view IIRC, so if there are a lot of people always available to mix, who allow say 100 200 or 500, then it should work pretty well. With the liquidity update I hope it will happen. Or am I missing something? Let's say I have 10 000, would you suggest mixing 100 coins 100 times? with funds like 10.000 personally i would go for amounts like 1000 or 1100 per time to mix as a lot of large buyings are starting to roll in right now that in the end will most likely need mixing. It will split into a 500 and some 100's that are more easy mixed, you just have to see how fast or how slow that gets mixed, once mixed then double the amount to get mixed to further anonymize the 10.000 |

Ok, so as i'm trying my first actual attempt at mixing... 30 minutes in, I would say either there's a problem or the interface leaves a LOT to be desired for...
0% done.. the message just keeps switching between Submitted to masternode, waiting in queue to Darksend is idle... I have no idea (i haven't really been paying attention the last couple months) if this is normal or not or if this isn't working... from a novice standpoint, it feels like it's not working?
I had a similar experience as well. I set the mixing at 20 DRK/8 rounds and let it roll all night. The next day I had 1 self-payment and ten 0.00125 fees. The status bar was at 100% but my anonymous funds still read 0. My total balance was greater than 20 DRK so shouldn't the mixing have stopped after reaching 20 DRK. And I was under the impression that the 0.00125 DRK fee was per round of mixing. If so, why did I have 10 such fees? I guess my understanding of how it is suppose to work, or how it's suppose to look like when it's working, is lacking a bit. Anyone care to enlighten a fellow long time supporter? its 0.0125 fees per mixing round.. so its not unusual to get charged 8x 0.0125 fees or more for 8 mixing rounds. The reason that its still trying to mix is because it hasnt reach the 8 rounds yet for all yr inputs (if you hover yr mouse over yr completion bar it will show the average of the set rounds) you can also put coin control on in the wallet (setting - options - display - display coin control features) and check in the send - inputs - list mode the darksend rounds that have been reached per amount so far. Setting the rounds in your options back to the minimal reached rounds will get those inputs into yr Darksend Balance. |

Glad I held. I was so close to letting my Dark go just the other day. Feels like the pump is over now, more settled rise to 0.008 I think.

So, after a long time since updating wallets... I grabbed the new one and replaced my old version... I finally tried the DarkSend thing and it just froze on me... am I correct that I might have seen something that said old wallet.dat files might not work with the later versions of the wallet?
Nothing was lost, I had backups and not worried about that... but just wondered if i need to transfer them and set up a fresh download of the blockchain and set up a new wallet file? Any help appreciated.
you guessed correct, you need to transfer yr funds from yr old wallet into a newly created wallet .. too much has changed with regards to Darksend. you can do a -reindex on yr current blockchain if necessary, no need to do a whole new blockchain download. try a small test amount first from old to new adress before sending it all over... and then make plenty backups (pref one right after you created and encrypted the new wallet and after each transaction .. you will need to do a lot more frequent backups then in the past) edit : eh yeah, i'm done editing now.. sorry about that |

where we are right now in the market and where we could end up in the next few days.
Nice breakout from long term downtrend on good volume. Next resistance levels at 009 (previous reaction high) and then 01. RSI not overbought. With lots of twitter activity, darknet news swirling about, instantTX on the way, enforcement successfully activated, masternode payments going up to 30% soon, I think we sustain enough momentum here to challenge those levels this weekend. Hopefully we can work through that and see those resistance levels become support.  great read.. thanks (i was wondering about those resistance and support levels) |

Anyone know what happened?
Select no preference in the wallet. Quick question, why is darksend the default option for this? because most people use this cryptocoin for the anonimity, using Darksend gets you that anonimity. The default should prioritize anonimous coins, then non-anonymous coins for the remainder. Current implementation is sub-optimal (everyone newbie will have the same question and will be freaked out). This has been an annoyance for me as logic like that is quite implied imo. This is something that Evan should improve. I agree. It could not only say "there is no funds for darksend" but also ask something like "would you like to send it in non-anonymous way?" No, there should be no message at all, simply prioritize anonymous coins, if not enough exist, use non-anonymous coins for the remainder. what if that user wants to wait and mix a bit longer when he receives the ''Unable to locate enough Darksend.... funds'' message ? with your method it will be automatically mixed with normal (not mixed) amounts and therefore less anonymous. More info about available options sounds better in my ears.... lets keep the freedom of choosing what kind of transaction we want to make but present it in a more easy to understand way. You could for example show all three options visible from the start and have users click on which option to use or we could provide help tips during outgoing transactions. |
