Op did you recover your car and keys without any problems?

Oh, right! Forgot to update. Yea, got them. No problems.

Glad to hear! Look forward to hearing from you in the near future, hopefully you can return it within three weeks to avoid interest and save yourself more problems.
6722  Economy / Lending / Re: Question regarding collateral: Why in Cryptos? on: February 03, 2014, 06:54:01 PM
It's just like a car title loan or home equity loan.

Not in my opinion [and correct me if I'm wrong], but taking a loan out against your home makes sense for several reasons:
1. You still utilize your home once the loan is taken out.
2. Your home is kind of a necessity, you can't quite part with it.
3. Exchanging your home for cash isn't anywhere near as simple or easy as exchanging a crypto for BTC.

All three of those don't apply whatsoever to Crypto collateral.

One of the reasons many people ask for loans even though they have collateral to equal value is because they don't want to lose what they are giving as collateral, so they are not prepared to sell it. They look for a loan and once they get the loan and repaid it in full they will receive their collateral back. So in theory they haven't lost any thing because they have paid back without losing the collateral.

Many people like to hold onto alt coins because of pump and dumps or they think they will be more value than Bitcoin one day or simply because they can pay for services/goods in alt coins but can't in Bitcoin. I believe there are a number of reasons other than the select few I have mentioned. I've never borrowed money from any one so I may be wrong but, this makes sense to me.
6723  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: kezzyp - Purchasing service scam on: February 02, 2014, 03:30:56 PM
Found a email which was registered with the email:
Code:

Which the user posted here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=368348.msg4123423#msg4123423

After inputting that email you come to this page: https://www.facebook.com/prince.kay.9803

What I have found is all public information, if you search google there are a lot of accounts which are named kezzyp and some are Bitcoin related.

6724  Economy / Services / Re: Need PI to crack a case for me on: February 01, 2014, 10:11:05 PM
I have contacted you to see if we can identify the scammer, although if you are not willing to give out the information I would suggest opening a thread in the scam accusations section to let people know that the site you have used is indeed a malicious site. Otherwise, a lot more people may end up getting scammed so the more time you leave it the more people will be in the same shoes as you. In fact, I already assume that there is a thread for it if 2000BTC has been compromised by this site. I will search to see if there is a site which matches your description over in the scam accusations section. I'm not interested in the coins which you are offering, I'm interested in Identifying the scammer that you have mentioned and making that public knowledge scamming 2000BTC would be one of the highest amounts scammed in Bitcoin history.

But, to be entirely honest your coins are probably gone if you can't withdraw, in that case the only way of getting them back would be hacking into the site which I highly doubt you will find any one to do this because it's illegal.

Letting the Bitcoin address be known public may be a good start.

6725  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a loan 2.5BTC on: February 01, 2014, 09:08:35 PM
I have a computer with following equipment:

2x 7970
990FX Fatality pro
850 XFX PSU
8GB RAM
FX 4350 CPU
128GB SSD

I would sell instantly if i wouldnt be able to pay in time, i also got my salary which comes in handy every month. Can send ID and Documents on whatever you want, you name it.

That would be my colleteral.

That won't do it, unless you are prepared to send the computer to a trusted third part (escrow) who would keep that computer until the loan has been completed, this is safety for both parties preventing the following: A. Lender doesn't run away with computer. B. The person requiring the loan doesn't run with the money and keep the computer.

Also, remember that you are asking for a 2.5BTC loan which is the equivalent to $2,124 (current rate at time of post). Therefore, you would need to provide collateral which is either equal or more than the loan itself. Unless, you do provide sufficient collateral and use a third party escrow then it will be very unlikely that you receive a loan.

You can always make your thread a self moderated one, many people do this to delete posts which are flaming and off topic replies. (instead of getting the moderators involved) But, don't think this will stop people calling out your project as a scam if they think it's a scam they will most likely post a thread in the scam accusations section.
6727  Other / Off-topic / Re: Book recommendation on: January 31, 2014, 05:42:48 PM
Here are some books which I have read or are in the process of reading which I think deserve a mention:

Anathem - Neal Stephenson
Cryptonomicon - Neal Stephenson
Design Everyday Things
Concrete Mathematics

Most of these are learning resources and not the story telling books although some do involved stories related to the subject, I'll continue updating this when I remember what I have in that old book case of mine. The books I have mentioned are a variety of different difficulties and you may find some not challenging enough or indeed the opposite. Also, if any one has any other learning resources involving Computer science and mathematics which you think is worth mentioning let me know.

Not sure many bitcoiners spend much time reading Wink my favorite all time book is "The Castle" by Kafka. All about confusion and paranoia and authority, he was well ahead of his time.

I'm not sure I agree I would say the majority read some sort of book doesn't have to be fictional or autobiographies it could be learning resources which their university supplies to them for their course or the university might recommended certain books.

I'm willing to lend Arklan 1BTC, the terms are these:

He pays within 3 weeks 1BTC no interest, however if he can't pay within that time period I will ask for 1.1BTC to be paid within 2 months. (Time starts when Bitcoin is sent).

Someone quote this message so I can't change it.

Quoted and agreed. Use the address in my signature if you want, or I can provide unique.

I will send it to your one in the signature.

I have now sent the Bitcoin to that address.

I... Hadn't thought of that. Hmm.

That's a good point what would you do if the locksmith refuses too?
6732  Economy / Lending / Re: Locked keys in car, between jobs, need 1 Btc fast, pay 10% interest. on: January 30, 2014, 10:09:01 PM
I've taken a look at Arklan recent posts and there doesn't seem to be any major difference in writing since December 2013. (I haven't searched further) So, I don't think the account has been compromised recently unless the hacker was wise enough to disguise himself and write almost identically. Nothing raises any red flags as of yet for me and the story sounds like a genuine thing people do, my question is don't you have any spare keys you could open it with?

when are you planing to repay

The original post states no more than 2 months.
6733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: connection problems on: January 30, 2014, 09:55:14 PM
Check if your firewall or anti virus software is blocking any connections of the program, this is a common problem and is easily resolved, you can always check the console to see the error.
6734  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator application on: January 30, 2014, 04:42:32 PM
Pretty sure he's not a moderator.

Great observation the lack of the title may of confused me.

I thought asking to become a mod was like asking the price of something :/

It's been pointed out that asking to become a moderator sounds suspicious but Bitpop seems to have been very successful.

6735  Other / Meta / Re: big problem posting on: January 30, 2014, 12:18:25 AM
Logging in, sending private messages and searching also count as 'posts' so when ever you log in, send a pm or search for something the counter will reset. Judging upon you posting this thread it was because of these reasons you were unable to post.

For future reference try searching the forums for issues similar to yours instead of posting a new thread. (Use google if you are waiting for the timer to go down)
6736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $75 fee? Why????? on: January 29, 2014, 07:10:38 PM
You need to keep an eye on the Bitcoin client when doing transactions. I have caught my client making mistakes. Of course, they could have been my mistakes, or maybe I need a new keyboard or mouse, or a better OS, but the point is to double check everything all the way.

Most likely your own mistakes a program can't do what it is not told too it doesn't have a brain. Although, it's wise to always double check the entries you have input just in case you have made a mistake.

The default fee for that transaction would either be 0 or 0.1 mBTC ($0.08) so this was selected by the user.

However I do think it would be a good idea if the client warned users before doing something that 99.9999999999% of the time is simply a mistake.  Paying a fee 100x what is required is almost always going to be a mistake and for the one in a million that it isn't the user could always override the warning.

This should be put into place because we all make mistakes even if you do less than the default amount there should be a warning to prevent people from either losing Bitcoin or having to wait a long time.

Quote
"WARNING:  You have selected are about to send a transaction with a fee of 90 mBTC per kB.  This is 900x the minimum required, and more than 450x the average fee paid by Bitcoin users in the last 24 hours.  Are you sure you wish to pay a fee of 90 mBTC?

[Yes - Send with 90mBTC fee]  [No - Cancel Transaction] [No - Reduce fee to 0.1 mBTC]

Having something like this with the extra facts would be a pretty nice feature, people would be able to find a amount that they are happy with and know what others are doing also.

Although, if you  are using a older version of the software which had a lot higher fees then this could be a problem.
6737  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are you male or female? on: January 27, 2014, 03:35:57 PM
Females currently at 15%

Got to respect that a lot of people have inputted inaccurate data and some may have made mistakes, a few people have already stated they have made a mistake checking the options.

15% isn't that impressive either, looking at the current percentage there are 14.5% who have chosen female which is a very small amount compared to the users who have chosen male looking at the results and disregarding any mistakes 14.5% is only 8 females at the moment which isn't as impressive.
6738  Other / Meta / Re: The last posting from your IP was less than 20 seconds ago. Please try again lat on: January 27, 2014, 01:19:52 PM
I don't mind the wait, I understand it, but I do have a problem when somebody replies to the topic while you're entering your comment. Then it shows the "you might want to review bla bla bla" screen if you click the Post button, I quickly check what has been said and want to click again on Post but then I also get the message. So the first click on Post counts towards the counter even though nothing was actually posted?

Or am I doing it wrong? Smiley

You can turn that warning off in your profile settings. It's under look and layout and you check the box "Don't warn on new replies made while posting." if you want to disable it.

As far as I'm aware only personal messages, posting and logging in count towards the cool down you are experiencing.
6739  Other / Meta / Re: Why doesn't the forum rulers take harder stance on sock puppets, account........ on: January 22, 2014, 11:43:35 PM
Why doesn't the forum rulers take a harder stance on sock puppets, account sellers and scammers.

I know the forum software vBulletin has all type of plugins to easily stop this type of abuse.

Just a thought I have from time to time.

Most people use Tor to bypass these plugins, it's very difficult to actually find out who is linked to who. But, a lot of people try to expose sock puppets as much as they can and release the information to the public.
6740  Other / Off-topic / Re: I'm outta here, and fuck this place. Nothing but... on: January 22, 2014, 11:40:24 PM
Bruno,  do you really need to increase your post count?  I find that hard to believe.  Is there someone ahead of you?  Who?

Nah, nobody comes close. You can see the top posters here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=mlist;sort=posts;start=0

Give you around 4 months and you will ahead thanks to these ad campaigns.

Hopefully, the staff will sort this mess out or the ad campaign owners put in some very strict rules because the spam hasn't even quieted down even though there has been some alterations.
