It doesn't even matter if it is BTC or USD$, if the VALUE goes over US$10K adding ALL foreign accounts of anything you have to file.  So if you have US$5K in gold in Switzerland, and $5K worth of BTC, you are at the minimum to file.

The BTC are not in a "foreign account", the BTC are cash in your wallet. And even if you find and apply some definition where it is not cash then it is still not held in a "foreign account", the money is in the blockchain and in your private keys and both are stored in your own country, on your own computer at home and not in a "foreign account".

682  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Bitcoin Wallet 2.41 released! on: June 25, 2013, 05:07:13 PM
I like this wallet very much and I use it on a very low end device (Huawei Ideos X3) and its working like a charm but I have problems with my small display size and it has become much worse with the latest Version:

The bar at the bottom is extremely large (previous version didn't have this), scrolling through the transaction list is a much worse experience now with this little height left. Also in the previous version there was a display of the synchronization progress after app was started, now there is no indication anymore at all whether it is synched already, I always have to enter the network monitor via the menu and then swipe left to look at the date of the latest block just to determine whether its synched already because there is no other indication anymore, the previous version showed a small black status bar with progress that disappeared when done. This was **much** better.

Please revert the UI changes back to the previous version.

685  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Process-invariant hardware metric: hash-meters per second (η-factor) on: June 22, 2013, 09:36:51 AM
The way you describe it its not "hash meters per second", its "hash per metersecond".

In post #1: "divide by area and then multiply with length":
Quote
This is calculated by dividing the hashrate (in H/s) by the die area in square meters and then multiplying by the cube of the process's feature size in meters

(H/s / m^2) * m

= H/(s*m)

NOT Hm/s

Edit: Sorry, i missed the cube. You are right.
its (H/s / m^2) * m^3

Dwolla accounts seized -> MtGox loses access to most of their USD

No. Dwolla was only a tiny fraction, no significant amount, probably already earned back through trading fees multiple times.

My theory is this: There never was an API access for wire transfers in the first place, they did it **all** with paper, even for the ex dwolla useres who initiate massive numbers of small transfers every day and this ineffective process collapsed (probably the bank refused to hire more people only to process these massive amounts of paper and demand API usage instead) and now they are finally trying to write some code to connect it to the bank API.

If USD can't leave Gox nobody in their right mind would sell. So when people go to buy what happens?

People who don't want to move money out of MtGox will still sell bitcoins for mtgox-dollars at exorbitant prices, speculating that in 2 weeks price will be much lower and they can buy back twice as many BTC then (and they will probably be right and make a huge profit while the ones who are panic buying BTC now will be the losers (as always)).

691  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: June 19, 2013, 10:57:14 AM
Well so far all TA shown in this thread saying we're going down to 100 has turned out to be completely wrong.

There also has been TA that indicates a drop to $32 and that will turn out to be true.

That's part of the problem.  My Asus is so small it doesn't have a CD drive.  It has 3 usb pors however.  Is there a way i can install it from a flash drive?

Yes. Use this tool to make a bootable USB thumb drive: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

If you look back at the bubble crash, then it's obvious that afterwards when the price went down below 100, every time the price went back up to above 100 in a relatively short time.

This happened several times, indicating that the market will not settle for a price below 100.

The bounces were smaller every time, indicating that the market will not (yet) want to go up. This means it will go down. If it can't go up here it will go down.

This will happen:

-> a little bit more bouncing around here at these levels
-> decisive move below $100, breaking previous lows (huge triangle break)
-> fear and panic
-> $50 -> bounce -> a few weeks of hope -> down again
-> $50 -> smaller bounce -> a few days of (smaller) hope -> down again
-> $50 -> uncertainty, fear -> break -> stops triggered and n00bs panic
-> $30 -> strong bounce -> a few months hope -> down agan
-> $30 -> smaller bounce  - a few weeks (smaller) hope -> down again
-> $30 -> uncertainty, fear -> break -> more stops and more panic
-> $20
-> me converting most of my Fiat to BTC
-> price goes up again, third bubble slowly beginning.

It looks like someone put up a huge wall and it was eaten immediately.

This must be wrong.

Here are the volumes for M15 candles for today, all times in UTC as logged by goxtool (comes directly from MtGox)

bid/ask sum has just crossed price, bullish signal.
They are both on dfferent scales ... change the scale and you can make them cross anywhere you want  Wink
No, they share the same unit - usd per btc and same scale.
I was referring to the first graph, if you disagreee, you'd better go for an eye check.
It's coincidental.
No, its intentional.

maybe even $20.
I will begin buying at $30.

698  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is the logical explaination for a single 5k buy causing 10 dollar slippage? on: June 12, 2013, 01:41:44 PM
The bulk buy is not puzzling, the puzzling thing is that 50% of coins bought were at 110, while other 50% were between 110 and 100.

This happens when you enter a bid for 9k @ $110 while the price is still lower than 110. This works like a market order with an upper price limit. It bought everything up to and including 110 and then left the remainder as a limit buy at 110. So it doesn't need to be some complicated strategy to produce these symptoms, just a simple "buy 9k at 110" and then click "ok". It might also have been an accident, maybe he confused buy and sell and actually wanted to enter a limit sell: "sell 9k at 110" but accidentally was on the wrong tab.

Who would use this averaged price, what *practical* significance would it have?

If I were a merchant who somhow needs to peg the BTC prices of my products to the corresponding FIAT value (for whatever reason) then I would need to use the prices of the exchange that I am using and not some artificial average price from the other end of the world that is of no practical use for me because it does not represent the price of my Bitcoins here and now.

I'd recommend you edit your post for security reasons.  Just some friendly advice.
You just quoted his entire post, how is he supposed to edit that away?
