90% of IPOs on this site have been scams

This sounds like a big government and regulations. Why would you ban IPOs? Let people make their own decisions what is scam and what is not.

This place is the wild west. If you ban IPOs because some are SCAMs (which of course they are), there are a lot of other offers you would have to ban as well. There wouldn't be much left  Roll Eyes

Both of you are either shilling, or missed the point completely.  The IPO coins are relying on the premise that it's necessary to have an IPO to run a 100% proof of stake coin, when if you read the 3rd paragraph in the original post, you would see this is demonstrateably false.

This is the altcoin forum section.  I'm talking about currencies only, not business venture IPO such as Cryptsy seeking investment to expand a business.

Let the market decide.  If you feel strongly against this premise promote a cryptocurrency wiki site that identifies these kinds of issues.
683  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why have a bunch of the eMunie founders + familiar faces disappeared from eMu? on: February 01, 2014, 03:23:47 AM
The project had good intentions throughout its life.  The problem is that its was isolated from the public.  The culture around it was not completely open and did not accept contributions.  It was too tightly controlled (like Etherium).  They ignored the community until launch.  Over time the community changed, old members disappeared and new members surfaced that did not know what eMunie was.  The only knowledge they have of eMunie was the announcements when eMunie was ready to launch.  But the result was a negative response.

It was a matter of developers being active and communicate constantly of they get forgotten.

LOL @ people claiming doge is God when its only a few months old.

They said the same thing about feathercoin.

I remember feathercoin I got rich off that and chinacoin when they were first released and put on btc-e.com.  I dumped every last dime of it and they never reached the price they started at.  I think at the open 1 FTC = 1 BTC.  LOL!!!
689  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DogeCoin already bigger than Litecoin on: February 01, 2014, 02:17:36 AM
This metric is plain bonkers.

The amount of money required to "maintain" the price of anything is a function of the amount of goods supplied **to that market**. Not the amount of goods in existence.

If coins are not reaching the market then their value does not need to be supported by demand, so they can be discounted. You can't just take the number of coins "created" each day and multiply it by the price.

That would be like saying that the "market cap" of Salmon is the price of salmon at my local fish market times the entire amount of salmon on boats, in deepfreezes, etc etc - i.e. "not for sale". If all that extra salmon suddenly arrived at the market and was made available for sale, the price would go down. As far as value is concerned, if it's not for sale it doesn't exist.

Thats why these market cap figures are a bit ridiculous (even the ones on coinmarketcap.com etc). Because the market cap measured in this way goes up even if 1 person buys 1 coin. It suggests that that is the amount of money that's been spent on that coin when that's obviously baloney. Look at Bitcoin - it's got a market cap of 12 billion at the moment which I'm sure suggests to a lot of people that 12 Billion dollars had "gone into" bitcoin.

Whereas in fact, if 2 people bought 2 bitcoins for $1600 each and that was the last traded price, the market cap would suddenly jump to $24 billion ! That's how stupid all these statistics are that are calculated in this way. They are totally misleading toytown doodles that don't tell anyone anything and I really wish folks would take less notice of them.

And this is why that article that determines coin investment strategies based on daily "maintenance" was garbage. You can't buy what's not for sale

Right its all about the total liquidity of the currency.  The easier the currency is able to transact the more accurate the value.  If only cryptsy support DOGE then it is harder to trade which makes price appreciate.  Hence why coins tend to be sold at higher prices on google spreadsheets in forums before they get to an exchange.

I've just come to open my dogecoin wallet for the first time in 20 days as I fancied buying a little more doge Smiley
However, it's been syncing with the network for the past 12 hours now and theres still 16 days left of data to go.  Am I missing something here as to why it's taking sooooooooooo long?  I did the last update at the beginning of jan when there was that block chain beef so I don't know why it's taking so long.  How do other users on here put up with the block downloading times?

Change the name it is moronic. If you don't want Doge to become just a flash in the pan, then get spots about is long term future.

Of course you could leave it, I mean Canada had the loonie.

TLDR; Cryptsy has also stolen my money (yes, some of us buy coins with "real" money) ( From the post above)

How does one use "real" money to buy coins at Cryptsy?

Could someone define "real money"? Is it real because you can hold it your hand? Or a wallet, bank, pocket or hide it under ground in jars?

I think he means real in that it is not counterfeit. I guess most of us use some kind of "fake" money.

My favorite "fake" money are white tailed deer. I have several bucks at home.
695  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin ASIC on: January 30, 2014, 04:07:51 PM
Scrypt is going to hate ASIC Scrypt miners, it kinda defeats the purpose of being Scrypt. I hope the algos change so to keep the GPU mining market open to people and not be pooped on by the people with the most money.

Check out vertcoin, an Adaptive N-factor Scrypt coin, which ASICs will not be able to mine Smiley https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=404364.0

I expect this to be the next LTC.  But ASICs will be able to mine it in the future once it is profitable to design an FPGA/ASIC for it.
696  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin ASIC on: January 30, 2014, 06:29:22 AM
Its not too late. Several of the bitcoin ASIC manufacturers were "late to the party" and are now doing very well. It depends on getting a good team + funding together.

They were late to the party because the party was fabricating at 65nm. The late comers leap frogged straight to 23nm. LTC ASICs are jumping straight to 23nm. So there is no way someone coming in now will be able to jump ahead.
697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin ASIC on: January 30, 2014, 05:19:56 AM
Obviously there are other competitors, and there always will be. However, we have means to scale up production speed to compensate for lost time. Again, if anyone is interested please PM me.

Development is still development and there is nothing you can do to speed that up. So you are still looking at 6 months out even if you have scale. Sure you'll pump out a lot of units that first batch but it will still take you 6 months.

And the CBA is more than likely going to not be in your favor at that point because first you are late to the party and second difficulty will be very high at the point when you start development. So the potential for getting buyers will be low as they will gravitate to know and proven sellers.

What scale is your fabricator at? Seems to me the way you are talking you really don't have a clue about chip engineering. If you have access to an ASIC chip fabricator then you already have access to engineers that can design those chips. Your fabricator should already have partners that can do it if they don't already have engineers in house.

Something is fishy here.

699  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Dump is on on: January 30, 2014, 04:02:35 AM
This is the slow boiling frog dump.  This happened last year after the big spike to 260 and resultant crash to 50.  Price bounced back to over 150 and then traded around 100 for a long while slowly drifting lower over months before an accelerating fall to 65 in July.

We are pretty much stuck between 600 and 800 and will probably accelerate to 400 sometime late Spring early Summer and then bounce back.

Greetings my Litecoin enthusiasts. I am posting this to reach out to the altcoin community and begin discussion on the emergence of Litecoin ASIC rigs.

I am an entrepreneur that has been involved in the Bitcoin community for some time and my team and I are looking to expand our business operations. Currently, I have become involved in an ASIC manufacturing plant and we're looking to take on clients to start prototyping and hopefully down the line, begin production of a Litecoin ASIC.

If you have any expertise/knowledge in the production of such ASIC and FPGA machines, please PM me. Our team has the capital and the means to push such a product on a massive scale. We're looking to find the right engineer/partner and begin developing a working product.

We look forward to your responses!

Would this ASIC plant happen to be in Nigeria?  jk

You might be a little late to the game because a Chinese manufacture that has mass produced the first batch 2 months ago, an FPGA developer that has been shipping since November, 2 ASIC developers  that are 2-3 months in development of 23nm chips and shipping in June/July and one that is accepting deliver for self hosting in their own data centers.
