due to instability on bigger chip i'd rather read table for short summary. I can do that: (sorry, I used Dutch date format)I also made a 30 days running average, that should smoothen out the graphs: ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fchips%2Frunningaverage1.png&t=664&c=cLuKG7_74PsfzQ) (again: Dutch date format)Full data As far as I know there are no false positives or negatives in my data. Now i wonder if there's rare occurrence someone accidentally mimic chip behavior. For example, user use one-time address practice and withdraw exactly 0.001 BTC * 2^N I'm pretty sure that's what happened thousands of times, before ChipMixer even existed. But what I meant with "no false positives" is that I hope I didn't miss anything according to my own definition of a chip. Do not you think the amount 0.001 or 0.002 could be so popular that connecting it with chipmixer transfer is a bit risky? Or course we may say it is a candidate because that amount was used, but I think we may have many many uncorrelated transactions. What do you mean by "risky"? I didn't mean to claim how many of those addresses are related to ChipMixer, but that's the beauty of chips: anyone can create them. How about source addresses, any duplicates? I didn't check source addresses, but I've seen many chips get funded at once in one transaction.

ChipMixer started in 2017. It provides privacy by dividing Bitcoin into indistinguishable chips of the same size, starting with 0.001 BTC, and doubling the size up to 4.096 BTC (and since 2018 up to 8.196 BTC). Chips existed long before ChipMixer, and anyone can create them on their own. For a while now, I've been curious how many chips are out there. The more there are, the better privacy they offer. So I collected the data ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I took Blockchair's Bitcoin data, and used the following assumptions: - Any address with a deposit of 0.001, 0.002, 0.004, 0.008, 0.016, 0.032, 0.064, 0.128, 0.256, 0.512, 1.024, 2.048, 4.092 or 8.196 BTC can be a chip.
- Any address that received more than one deposit is not a chip.
- Any address that sent more than one transaction is not a chip.
- Chips are counted if they're still funded at the end of a day.
- Chips are not counted from the day they're emptied.
The first chipThe first chip was created on April 29, 2011, with a size of 0.016 BTC. Full dataAs far as I know there are no false positives or negatives in my data. If anyone's interested in the full data (27 GB of "which chip exists on which day"), let me know. GraphsTo keep the number of graphs manageable, I'll limit myself to Legacy addresses (starting with 1: solid lines) and native Segwit addresses (starting with bc1q: dotted lines). Note: check the scale for each graph, I zoom in on the vertical axis to better show the larger chips. ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fchips%2F1.png&t=664&c=U9labo4HIngmww) ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fchips%2F2.png&t=664&c=wLEmdQk_iGjnWQ) ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fchips%2F3.png&t=664&c=VCiqFMNjKY80Zg) ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fchips%2F4.png&t=664&c=kxHSCp7s-tc7HA) ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fchips%2F5.png&t=664&c=zUNm_7C17NYrSg) ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fchips%2F6.png&t=664&c=MTWx67Z6VefLQQ) ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fchips%2F7.png&t=664&c=bNanxvdQT5USkA) ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fchips%2F8.png&t=664&c=HdlyC_-eYIVpBA) (0.001/4.096 and 0.002/8.196 have the same color, but it should be obvious based on the numbers which line is which)No frequent updatesCurrently, my data ends on August 20, 2022. Processing the data takes a while, and updating the graphs is a lot of work. So don't expect too frequent updates, maybe in a few years, or maybe when Taproot becomes more popular. No spamSelf-moderated against spam. Discussion is of course welcome.

I'm still curious: does this "wallet" somehow link to an account on a website instead of a private key? Apparently so, here's a quote from the reddit OP: A QR code with a key to access the account. When you get in there it says there is .62 BTC which can be withdrawn. I didn’t go further into withdrawing to see what they ask, but the account 1LM.. has only ever had .15 BTC in it on blockchain records, and they have only ever deposited from accounts that have been flagged as fraudulent or scams. Nothing seemed to flag malware/ransomware on site but I am guessing the details provided on the withdraw page are what the scam is, not malicious software. Anyone heard of “Printkey Wallet” before? That’s where the QR scans to. It sounds like OP has the same: I scanned the initially concealed QR code on my phone, entered the also concealed code and was presented with a web page with info pertaining to a btc balance of 0.6104...ish.

Printed address starting with 1LMy3... has total deposits of only 0.15 BTC if you look in blockchain explorer, and coins are flagged as fraudulent or scams. I don't believe in "taint", that's BS ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Aside from that, 1LMy3vemjaA46SATjZp9FfVSkUA8QiYjgE holds 0.01528957BTC. Very similar amount and country like in case with OP. I'm still curious: does this "wallet" somehow link to an account on a website instead of a private key? What's the point of this scam? I don't get it. I'm with ndgoLiberty on Reddit: Probably hoping people put their funds in this wallet and then the creator wipes the funds.

Even more, not long ago Monero had a big update (possibly hard fork). If the wallet you're using or the exchange didn't update, one of them may be working with the wrong blockchain. This sounds like the most likely cause, the hard fork happened 3 days before this topic was created.

I think you missed the point about storage, you can store hydrogen just as you store natural gas, it can be turned into liquid as LNG, it can be stored in pressure tanks it can even be stored in salt caverns. I had to look it up, and LNG is a lot colder than I expected (-162 oC). But Liquid hydrogen gets much closer to absolute zero. There's already a shortage of LNG capacity, and it takes years to expand. Pressure tanks will work, but at the same pressure, you can store less energy (because the molecule is much smaller) than methane. Underground storage could be interesting, maybe it can even be pumped into empty natural gas fields. And there you have it, use that energy to produce hydrogen, rather than throwing it away or letting that sunlight go to waste as it heats the roofs when you don't need it I don't think there's an economically viable option right now, since it happens only a few hours per year. in the Netherlands I think you actually have few options left, it's not like you can build a pump storage dam anywhere to store energy. We use Norway for that ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Of course, there is Groningen..but... Politics There's also Nord Stream 2.
|
|
|
Hydrogen is an energy source, otherwise, you could say that both natural gas and oil are energy carriers too. That's not the definition of energy source. Electricity isn't an energy source either, but sunlight is. Hydrogen has one advantage, it can be generated from excess energy on the grid True, but to do that, you'll need much more hydrogen generating capacity, and much more solar/wind farms. And still, that doesn't cover the energy needs in winter. We've had negative prices several times this year too. In a country where most houses don't have airconditioning, solar energy has a very low economic value during the hours that it's most productive.
|
|
|
or to start generating hydrogen on its own. From what? Gas? ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) That's the problem: hydrogen isn't an energy source, it's an energy carrier.

I've just noticed that you've merited one investigator five times with six merits a piece (i.e. 30 merits) while seemingly shunning other investigators whose posts are of equal quality. The Pharmacist doesn't Merit "investigators", he merits users' posts. That's a difference. If you look at his sent Merit history, you'll see he Merited several users several times in a row. That means he checks their post history (see Rules for my post history review offer to the community) and doesn't necessarily read or check the rest of the topic. BTW setting conditions in your thread for how other users should send merits is absurd. Agreed.

Of course, for consumers the difference is less, because energy was always highly taxed and there's now even a temporary tax reduction. But still, the everage new energy contract now costs €4000 per year more than a year ago. And this data is already old, because gas prices went up further. I hope you don't forget that this situation is temporary. It' s currently the governments that compensate the difference by indemnifying the energy companies (as you surely know). I meant the relative difference is less because of taxes: if you used to pay 75 cents per m 3, and the gas price itself went up 20-fold, you'll now pay "only" 6 times more. by the way, in my country, we pay a tax based on taxes (a tax of taxes). how crazy is it? Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm pretty sure the Dutch government invented that ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) I searched on google what is the source of Germany's electricity and found out that they mainly use coal similar to our country. Natural gas is used for more than just electricity production, and they wanted to get rid of coal because of (not very realistic) climate goals. Yep. But there is a caveat - hydrogen from Russia is much easier to replace with hydrogen from another source, because hydrogen is one of the most widespread chemical elements on Earth. Natural gas isn't scarce. It's still very cheap in many countries. Transportation is what gets you, and hydrogen would be no different even if it would be abundent somewhere (which it isn't).

The question would be if you look for double hits per day/per file, or totally in any of files. The total ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) For now, I got it covered. I can try something else too: if I use the list of addresses that are used more than once, it's only 3 GB (instead of 67), and I can search against that list. That was slower in my initial test, but that didn't cause memory problems, and I have to do it less often so it may pay off. I'm looking for all addresses funded with 1, 2, 4, ...., 8196 m BTC in one transaction, that don't have more transactions than 1 funding and (possibly) one spending. I want to count how many of those chips exist on each day. It could be a good measure for privacy.

I do not understand what do you mean by "directory" - is it a file with addresses? Or directory on hdd where each file has name like an address? Then how you may have the same address twice? It's a directory with files. Each file has all Bitcoin addresses that were used that day, some of them more than once. To my surprise, my grep script actually completed! It used up all RAM and added some swap, and after 24 hours of high load, it's done ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) I have prepared a small program for you: https://github.com/PawelGorny/Loyce60787783It reads into memory list of addresses and then reads "directory" file with addresses - if address exists in memory, is marked, if the same address in hit for the second time, is removed from memory and saved to file. Thanks for this! I tried to test it, but I don't really want to install java on the server just for this. I am curious how this would perform though.
