I have not use it but I know that there are several bitcoin ATM's in some countries but hope to use it when it is within my reach because it is and plus to bitcoin.

You might be right, as most of the scam projects are involved these days people are losing trust in cryptocurrency. For my I've just tried to being simple, i wont get my head overloaded by thinking when will bull run will happen, I'll just wait for it patiently without having the thought of thinking too hard about it.

I recommend to select a coin, that already has a working product and is not in the developing stage. Just find out what coin do you like the most. Moreover I would invest some funds in ETH and BTC as well.
