701  Economy / Auctions / Re: Butterfly Labs BFL 60 GH/s ASIC Bitcoin miner pre-order from Feb 2013 on: May 28, 2013, 04:41:58 PM
I wouldn't buy any ASIC preorders placed after 2012.10.

Anyone else having issues with slush atm?

The slush webpage reports that my miners got last share at 12mins ago (and counting), however they are working constantly (depending on my the ASIC miner web interface and staratum proxy)

8. Can I submerge the pcb in oil without losing the warranty?
You can submerge it in (non corrosive) oil to cool it. If you handle this correctly its lifespan might be even longer than with fan cooling.

Can you provide more details about how to do this? Submerging in oil will not short circuit the board? Should we submerge the whole blade or only the ASICs? I do not want to risk damaging the blades.

Regards!

Actually, I have asked whether it affect warranty or not.

I've been submerging various hardware in oil in the past. It requires a custom made container to make it work properly. The 100% pure mineral oils (used also in transformers) do not conduct electricity and have exceptional cooling properties.

As I have 4 blades I have already designed a container for myself and it's being assembled. When we finish testing it I might be offering these on a built to order basis.

Here's a model of the unit for 5 blades:

Everything seems fine now even the score.
705  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-05-23 CNN: Bitcoin more powerful than fastest supercomputers on: May 26, 2013, 09:40:57 AM
I cannot understand why some people (even on this bitcoin forum) so ignorant to call mining a useless thing.

We have a payment system, which doesn't require a central authority....try to comprehend this statement you ignorant lot. Cheesy

As for the concerns of illegal activity, I've been involved in bitcoin for a few years now and I didn't order drugs, cp,  etc. Also, it's quite basic, but you can buy any illegal stuff with fiat. so, it's a moot point.

I cannot even understand why some people care to join and spread these false claims here

This is the first anomaly I have got:

I didn't have disconnect or miner restart.

Any explanation why this particular block reward was so low compared to all the others?

Highly recommended, A++++++

708  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin a risky investment? on: May 25, 2013, 01:39:26 PM
I think most of the authors want to avoid consequences.

Don't forget that most of the people are just ignorant/stupid. If the author wouldn't mention that it's risky there would be an angry mob saying that they lost money because X Y Z article recommended investing in BTC.

That's how things work among humans Smiley

Come on Slush fix the pool. I did test move back to your pool with one miner and it is still jumping to backup pool. And there was no logging of shares for 16 minutes... If the block ended I would probably lost a lot. But they did all come back after 16 minutes so I don't know what was that... But it is not stable.

I call BS, My miners haven't switched to backup pool for a long time now.

It looks promising. I'll give it a try Smiley
714  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASICMINER Blade Sales on: May 21, 2013, 06:01:37 AM
There's a lot of hype around these blades, so I thought it would be beneficial for the community if some points are cleared:

- Don't expect returns sooner than 8 - 12 months (maybe more). That means that the profit it makes afterwards are likely to be minimal.

- If you bought bitcoins at current price (120$) the blades are very overpriced I don't think it's worth it, there'll be better HW to buy at the next die shrink for a lot cheaper.

- Shipping takes ~4-5 days to EU (which is much better than "in 2 weeks" Cheesy )

- You'll need a place to put them, adequate cooling (fans) and power source.

just my 2p (blade owner)

I've been mining with 50Ghs for the 11th day now. Can you please evaluate the below log of earnings?

I watched that auction for the 10gig blades - it was awesome. How are your 5 running? Are they stable with temp etc? So jelly.

Actually I have "only" 4. They run stable, I cannot complain. Speed varies between 12.5-13Ghs / blade Smiley

I haven't got downtime caused by the miners as of yet. The cooling is quite easy compared to GPUs, I use 3 Fans for cooling all 4 blades.

I've been mining with 50Ghs for the 11th day now. Can you please evaluate the below log of earnings?

Today I switched from diff8 to 6 and I think the rewards are coming more frequently and in a steadier manner. I plan to run it on 6 to get some more days worth of data to compare.

Do you think I should set it lower?

the last record has 9 hours to go as of this post. I had no downtime, expect 2 occasions when the miners spent a few minutes offline

Difficulty is pretty much just how big the calculation is that gets sent to you.
It's used to control the rate of communication from you to the server.

Rewards come in when a block is discovered so changing difficulty has no bearing whatsoever on frequency or steadiness.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.
