UPDATE: I decided on a 6950. I'm happy with my decision. I got free 1 day shipping, a DIRT 3 code (I hear they are hard to use), and the 6950!

you can flash the bios to run closer to a 6970's specs as well.
702  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin to fiat exchange in Somalia on: January 03, 2012, 12:38:35 AM

Maybe we will see some pirates demanding bitcoins for ransom in the future?  Cheesy

It is funny, but when I first learned about bitcoins and saw its potential, I thought, yeah, it is going to be the way ransoms are demanded in the future.

The problem with ransoms are you either need to be incredibly smart with inter-bank systems so that you can effectively receive money that you know can't be taken back, or you have to physically receive a satchel full of actual cash or gold (a very dangerous part of the whole process).

Now you can deposit your captured person in a location, get your bitcoins sent to you, and then give over the info as to where the person is (the last part is optional).

Add in the coming escrow option, and this gets even more clear for both parties in the exchange.

This works well also for drug trade and a bunch of other illegal operations where working with banking systems are not a viable option.

So far, I think criminals are slowly drifting into bitcoin. The small scale drug dealers are the first (with the silk road). I can tell it is not major yet though, as the price of bitcoins will skyrocket once it becomes the standard of criminal currency. With the potential of only 9 Million currently available to go around, and a price of $5 each, that doesn't leave much to go around for major criminal transactions.

So it sounds like we need to set up a ransom escrow service. We'll call it BitNap.
703  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If sky was the limit - how many bitcoins would you buy? on: January 03, 2012, 12:33:05 AM
If the sky was the limit, I would probably be on my mega yacht with a bunch of beautiful skirts rather than dicking around with bitcoin.

Buy as many as you can afford to lose would be my serious answer. No one can predict the future and you don't want to lose your house because you were wrong and can't pay that second mortgage you took out to drop into MtGox...
704  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica: When does it implode? on: January 03, 2012, 12:06:31 AM
Never?

Why it should implode? Especially now that it is having huge success?

The fact that you cannot long what you want on them doesn't means they are "broken". It's like saying your internet connection is broken because you are limited in speed and you cannot download faster. Or the hard disk is broken because it only allow you to put 2TB of data on them (it's a 2TB one of course)

You obviously speak from a rich set of metaphors built from a broad life experience. I am awed by your attempt at reasoning. Awed.

Never mind that such an act by a licensed broker-dealer in the U.S. or U.K. could result in shutdown by the relevant regulatory agency. Of course, from the viewpoint of an investor in Bitcoinica it could certainly be construed as a technical act of bankruptcy, which would give them some out.

I don't know what the equivalent legal requirements would be in Singapore, would the operators of Bitcoinica be caned if they couldn't pay off the right officials?

You seem to be confused as to what and whom you are dealing with. This is a BITCOIN forum...you aren't going to find many people to back your demand for regulation and government nannies to protect your pocketbook.

What is the point of this thread? Do you want to be cool and troll the hell out of Zhoutong like cypherdoc? Cause you aren't very good at it...

If you don't like it, make a better one. No one gives a flying fuck what you think, our only concern is what you do.

You really said "back your demand for regulation and government nannies to protect your pocketbook". You really said that.

Thanks for the image of a fat, clueless white man bringing his favorite bogeyman along so he can have an opponent with which to show everyone his shadow boxing prowess. Look at 'em jiggle boys, he's a tough one!

I don't get it.

Also, fat jokes? Seriously? Odds are that despite my morbid obesity, I could rip both your arms off your torso...unless you are up several stairs. Then I can't get to you...but if I could...

You don't get it? You are more of a dumbass that I thought. Think hard about what I actually said or didn't say, and then see if your straw man, or in your case more likely a blowup doll, wants to argue reactionary politics with you.

It's been a long time since I boxed in the military and it's not like I would bother anyway, blowing your head off would work just fine. It's something I got a lot of practice at, I'm quite sure I still remember how. I know - how are you with a knife? I collected ears back in the day and took some scalps as well to commemorate the customs of my ancestors. Slowly skinning your bloated carcass alive would really bring back some fond memories of field interrogations I performed. Man, I had the touch, everyone said so, I used to get a lot of special requests from my associates. I'm sure it would be just like riding a bicycle, one never forgets.

Cool story bro. I see you like Apocalypse Now. I thought that was a good film as well.

707  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who just sold? on: January 02, 2012, 07:50:52 PM
I'd like to thank whoever just sold. Gave me a chance to buy a few more coins at low prices.

I think you are confused about prices. 250%+ above a month ago is not exactly low...

Maybe we should try and keep this thread on topic for those who actually have skin in the game...  Grin

If I had skin in the game, I would expect BFL to create their own thread and using that and their website, keep me apprised of the state of things.

I consider it crying wolf.  There will be great challenges to our liberties in the coming years... if you keep crying wolf, no one will believe it when the actually strip away our due process rights.

This...

The patriot act already covers this shit anyways...it's just bolstering the expired portions.

On a side note, how was the list of coverage created? It seems like it would require thousands and thousands of hours of reading transcripts and publications, not just googling shit.
711  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk requesting donations? Wtf? on: January 02, 2012, 12:00:48 AM
All im saying, guys, is dont claim to be a non profit when you're not a non profit.

Also you all assume I havent donated. Well have you ever considered that I did donate and didnt give my name or tell where it was from because im not some type of douche bag who donates to be listed on the donation page?

Flame away.

Where is there a non-profit claim made?
712  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk requesting donations? Wtf? on: January 01, 2012, 08:16:20 PM
Why donate when you know the money will be wasted?

How do you know that? Have you donated, or are you just another worthless leech here bitching about something because you have nothing to do on new year's eve?
Oh, a white knight? Wow, nice insults

Wake up, they want to waste the money in a "custom forum"?

How the hell can they make a decent forum? Things like vbulletin or phpbb took YEARS and tons of investment to have a good forum, and here they want to compete with them with 1000 BTC? Either they are wizards or something is wrong.

I had some experience with "custom forum"... bugs everywhere, let alone security.

Also what is the point in wasting money to make something when you can spend much less and have something much much much better? Vbulletin or Phpbb or others...

I am not white knighting it, I am just saying I think they should spend the money on whatever they want, and you should just do whatever you want.

Oh yea. Happy new year by the way. We had ours 10 hours ago.

So I take it you don't know how to party then...

You must have missed the Christmas Special.

Unfortunately, yes, but I plan to watch it sometime. I gotta head out to the festivities soon; perhaps tomorrow when I am so hungover I wish I was dead...
715  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: tainted bitcoins on: January 01, 2012, 02:01:36 AM
Yes but suppose I send 10 100% tainted coins to an address which already has 90 0% tainted coins, then you might consider that this new address now has 100 10% tainted coins.

Having worked in and with the UK regulatory industry for a long time it would not surprise me at all that building a large piece of machinery to track such trails would be high on their list of priorities.

You are putting way too much credit into the government's hands. They don't have the time or infrastructure to actually pull this off, and the value is so low that I doubt any would try.

It'd be like sending out the swat team to shake down a kid selling schwag in high school.

Coin tumbler...that is all that's needed. Silkroad aggregates all coins into a pool such that the likelihood of receiving the coins that your purchaser paid is incredibly low. The software could easily be taken a step further and prevent that occurrence. It might already exist, but I don't know. I am not into silkroad. I can get everything on there much cheaper locally without worrying about the postmaster general doing a controlled delivery.

Alright, I am going to start a betting pool as to astana's age and weight. 3btc for the winning guess and 2btc for the internet detective who finds his picture.

I say 15 and fat as fuck.

The end of the year is a great time to squirrel money away into an untraceable store such as bitcoin...taxes and all that jazz...I wouldn't be surprised if some of this climb isn't people burning/laundering their under the table funds.

If you contact paypal, I wouldn't drop the B-word anywhere. Paypal doesn't like bitcoin very much...
