So I haven't been able to try any of your suggestions yet, but after messing with my heat sink fan, I noticed one of white pegs on the back is only half sticking out.  I can't wiggle it, it still seems stable, but that's a little scary.  it's this kind:

I knew those first two weren't right, but I wanted to post something since I was so close to figuring it out, then I got it right after I posted.  Smiley

Well I didn't put in my PC speaker, so the beeping won't bug me.
I got the cooler master box and supply from newegg.
So I should unplug everything, fans and all?
I definitely agree that it seems like a short, I just am having a hard time thinking where it could be.  I'm not missing any screws, the mounting posts seemed to go fine...   but then again I've only installed a few motherboards.
707  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Bitcoin press hits, notable sources on: July 23, 2011, 03:11:40 PM
I didn't see anyone mention this, in Time magazine 7-11-11

"Digital Deflation
How an online currency stacks up to the dollar

Since the financial crisis, many economists  have been calling for the creation of a new global reserve currency to replace the dollar.  To gauge how such a system might work, some have been tracking the progress of Bitcoin, a virtual currency, which makes it possible to buy and sell online anonymously.  Bitcoins were devised in 2009 by pseudonymous programmer Satoshi Nakamoto and have gained a following among techies.  For economists, the lure is that the tender is not run by a government or central bank.  No quantitative easing here.  The number of Bitcoins increases at a constant rate, much as legendary economist Milton Friedman prescribed for a stable currency.  But in mid-June, Bitcoin took a hit.  The virtual currency plunged in value after a hacker nearly stole $9 million of the digital money.  The exchange rate had reached $30 per Bitcoin, up from $5 earlier in the year.  After the hack, the value dove to a peny but has rebounded to $16.  The dollar, on the other hand, despite the tsunami in Japan, unrest in the Middle East and continued high unemployment has dropped just 5c vs. the euro this year.  So much for virtual-currency experiments and the quest to replace the greenback."

Yeah..  Time is a great one for black and white simplified thinking.

Yeah, I have the +2 wires just hanging off into nowhere, I hope that isn't a problem.

A.  I didn't see any pins on the processor.  Also I'm not sure if I have any choice but to tighten it down.  The lever only seems to let me use one pressure.

B.  I'll go through the power connectors again, are there any that could be put on backward?  I was very careful while installing, but just on the off chance.

RAM *seems* ok

Only expansion card is the video card, I don't see any physical settings (jumpers or?) that I would be able to change.

Heat sink kind of pops on, I'm not sure if I have any control over how tight it is.

Thanks a lot for your reply, I'll open it up soon and start working again. Smiley

Ok, got it today, spent the day putting everything together, powered on, and it instantly powered down.  Checked all the connections, reread manuals, made sure the heat fan sink was on solid..  hm, guess I'll try again in the morning.

I don't think anyone is encouraging you to not pay your taxes on whatever transactions you make.  Maybe I'm not seeing the problem, but wouldn't that keep you safe?

So how and why and when would would you want to ..  "go public"?

Join me for stress relief, rehabilitation, and self defence.  Tai Chi is based in one of the oldest medical traditions, but do just a small amount of research and you will find it is on the cutting edge of science.

I am used to teaching a variety of people with different needs.  All are welcome.  Tai Chi works as well for those who cannot leave their bed, as it does for olympic medal winners.

Kids should be taught the basics of measurement, not taught measurement systems.  They can be introduced to them, so that they are aware of the different systems, but no one really knows these kinds of things until they are old enough to need them.  Neither a kilometer nor a mile means much in the context of the average 8 year old.

But an inch and a centimeter sure do mean a lot.  I remember sitting there in school and realizing that I could easily guess how long things were in inches, after using them for so many years.  Conversely I learned to weigh things in grams and it's very easy to estimate values when weighing.
I understand you are saying we should have the right to learn whatever system we want, or no system at all.  I just don't see how it's possible to teach someone, say, language without them using grammar.  Why do you feel so strongly about not teaching a particular measuring system?  Are you against people teaching the standard clock, or should people decide how long they want their second to be?  I agree that people shouldn't be pushed to accept what everyone else takes for granted, but at the same time we can't communicate without common language.

Thank you, Morebitcoinsplease.  I haven't built a computer for about 12 years.  I was surprised at how few external changes I've come across.
715  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your child brings this letter home from school... on: July 20, 2011, 04:19:00 PM
I think kids measure things in school, and that is how they gain a frame of reference.  If they use a certain system the reference will be in that system.
716  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Religion is a plague on: July 20, 2011, 04:15:44 PM
There is a lot to learn from some religions, though I'll agree that many parts can be dangerous and misleading.  If you don't take it them too seriously they can be great.
If there were no religions, the people who seek to control you for their benefit  would just go somewhere else.  In other words, horrible things have been done in the name of religion, but not necessarily because of it.  More likely it was about resources than ideology.

Oh come on, the average home schooled child is so far ahead of the curve it's not funny.  Saying homeschooling should be banned is ridiculous.  Every method has it's problems, but the benefits of homeschooling are far beyond the costs.

Do the people arguing against the metric system believe in US exceptionalism?  I think the reason for switching to metric should be obvious to anyone who has ever tried to science.

If you get to the point where you can't take it anymore, just walk out your door, stick out your thumb, and see where you end up.  Some times a hard turn can get you out of a rut.
