201  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining Equipment Manufacturers -- No more GH/btc on: August 11, 2013, 05:55:45 PM
Today I got an email from someone today who is disturbed by the GH/BTC column.
Many people may remember the time that I took that table down in favor of the % of profitability table.  The response was overwhelmingly negative.  The problem with it, though, is that it is a meaningless way to measure the competition.  This is because of the timing involved, compared with rising difficulty.  If a company says they are shipping a product in June 2014 with a great GH/BTC they will shoot to the top of the list.  It won't matter if they are profitable or not.

For the most part companies are pricing their equipment in a way that reflects a GH/BTC that puts them in a reasonable place.  I would like to switch over, though, because I don't want to give anyone the impression that this is a good way to measure.  The column itself is a vestigial part of the table left over from before I had enough lead times to be able to put down ROI.

The main table now will be % of ROI, or profitability.  The reason it took me a while to be able to switch to this, is that I needed to have the information about each manufacturer posted on their own page.  Since I finished that this week, and got reminded in the email I mentioned to do this, I think it is time.

Let me know if you have any concerns,

Warning, Feathercoin Scam!

Though it did get me to download the real client.  Didn't even realize it was a scam at first because I never use links sent to me.  Downloaded the client and sent my new address

They said it wasn't a valid address, and in figuring out the problem I realized I ought to warn people.
Here is the text they sent:

Hi,
My Feathercoin giveaway has began! I am a large holder in Feathercoins and want to boost it's popularity. To do this I am offering the equivalent of 10$ in feathercoins for every person that gets the feathercoinQT wallet and sends me the newly made address.

I will be doing this up to the one hundredth address I receive and depending on the results I get on the ftc market I will either continue or discontinue these giveaways. Please do not attempt to send me multiple addresses, I have my ways of finding out. After downloading the wallet send me a pm on here with your ftc address. Hope you realise the investment opportunity that is feathercoin!

You can get the wallet from feathercoin.com

Thanks

The link of course looks like feathercoin.com, but is actually featherscoin.com if you read the url link on the bottom left of screen as you scroll over it.

The message I received when I sent the address is:

204  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Decentralized Hosting - mining equipment market hedge on: August 10, 2013, 07:18:39 PM
So the plan by far is group buy and hosted mining right? What about shares?
I would like to see some Bitfury in the mix too.
What about Labcoin, BTCGarden, Avalon next gen?
I am in for up to 10BTC for the moment but very interested in this long term!
I can find free electricity AND/OR very low power cost (Dubai)..
Yes, every manufacture is being considered.  I wanted to start with KnCMiner at the moment, as they have the free machine per 10 orders.  BitFury looks promising, and would be a great place to diversify into.

There will be more information available soon.  I've been working with someone to clarify all the details, and he's organizing the plan more this weekend.

Your calculations are still wrong  Roll Eyes
I have the largest systems for each category, price being
10*1099=10990
16*999=15984

Maybe I'm being dense, I really am not seeing where I went wrong.  Just want to make sure everything is in the right place.
207  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining Equipment Manufacturers -- updates xCrowd and #HashFast on: August 10, 2013, 05:14:28 AM
lol yeah, the reason the 8% is there is because the timespan is a year.  If I went down to 6 month it would make a little more sense, and I'd be able to add the higher short term numbers.  I think it's unlikely we will be at 20% average over the next year.  Not impossible, but 30% seems pushing it.

It would be fun to eventually have a couple different time spans.  I think I'll need to automate the picture posting somehow before I can add too many more pictures.  Someone I know said Drupal could probably do it, but I'm not sure I want to spend the time to figure all that out.

-edit Added KnCMiner's December pricing, very interesting, I thought it wouldn't make a difference.

Agreed... 10% 15% 20% 25% 30% would be way more useful.  Right now you are doing your readers a disservice by showing clearly overly optimistic numbers.  Your readers are going to quickly see that these charts are less useful when they actual growth rate is so much larger than your worst cast scenario (at least for the next 5 months).

I've had it with intervals of 5 starting at 10 before, it's an informative set.  I'll show you what it looks like day after tomorrow.  I don't want to switch just yet with all the other new changes happening today.  Tomorrow is xCrowd day.  Today was HashFast, and 'OMG what is Avalon going to do' day.

Your xcrowd figures are inaccurate.
Thanks, fixed

edit-
About VMC I was advised by a couple people to watch out for them when they first went public, but I haven't seen any reason.  Especially if you take into account their connection with AM.

edit-
Didn't see that you had challenged me on not adding them, they are there, with their own page and all.  Was going to add it earlier, after I did the research last night, but got caught up with other things.
210  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] xCrowd*US/UK*TH/s+ Units on: August 10, 2013, 03:03:39 AM
Tonight, KNC released pricing around single digit levels per GH/s for November shipping.   That means any competitor will need to beat that by at least 25% considering KNC will have already shipped two months of products.  Why go with a new company when one will have a history and competitive price.  Playing it save today means just waiting for November and buying a KNC unit and having it shipped the next day.  Soon there will be no more pre-orders unless the reward is huge.

GOOD LUCK!!!   Hope you shock us with your prices and details tomorrow!

Oh you're right, I should add that. I did for BitFury's alternate timed pricing.  Just a sec and I'll have it up.

Thanks CYPER, I should have checked with numbers like that.  I have had companies claim that kind of number before, and put them up just to show that it was unreasonable.
211  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] xCrowd*US/UK*TH/s+ Units on: August 10, 2013, 01:10:07 AM
loling at myself..  Their page is password protected, so I took their miners off my list.  Obviously it's just so they can update it for tomorrow though.  I'll fix my page then.  Please have some info on who is designing chips, it is strange you still have job listings posted.  If that and the manufacturing company are explained then a lot of people will be excited to jump on board.
212  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining Equipment Manufacturers -- updates xCrowd and HashFast on: August 10, 2013, 12:17:13 AM
xCrowd homepage requires a password today?  I can put them back on if their info tomorrow looks good and can be verified.

Check out my market hedge group buy.
213  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Decentralized Hosting - mining equipment market hedge on: August 09, 2013, 11:20:08 PM
Updated original post.
Ready to start placing orders.  To be as profitable as possible we should place our orders as early as possible.

Sorry to the chip buy group!  I wanted as many options as possible, but we got shut down there.  Maybe one of the other companies will come through.
214  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 09, 2013, 01:51:16 PM
Fool us once shame on him, fool us twice shame on us.
Sorry have to fix this:
Fool me once, shame on ... shame on you. Fool me ... you can't get fooled again.

Oh no!  I'm contributing to the spam..  people always talk about Whaaambulance, but this forum could use a Spambulance much more.
215  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining Equipment Manufacturers -- updates xCrowd and #HashFast on: August 09, 2013, 01:13:50 PM
Ya I've been wondering why VMC wasn't on here.

There are a lot of vaporware vendors on the spreadsheet, so at the very least VMC should be included as well.  Smiley
lol..  yes I try to take obvious scams out.  At the same time we don't really know until they ship or run off with the money, so I try to put anyone with a reasonable chance on, and hope people see the red "no" and do their research.
216  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining Equipment Manufacturers -- updates xCrowd and #HashFast on: August 09, 2013, 03:16:05 AM
The chips were designed by the CEO - Ken, and are being manufactured by eAsic http://www.easic.com/ (if all goes well). The deal is still under NDA, but I'll post here once the full details are available. Smiley
Thanks!  I'll add them in.
-edit Can't find a lead time, and the only warning that these are not made yet on the order page is that it says it's a prepaid preorder.  Can this be made more clear somehow?

You're showing Hashfast's lead time as August. Huh

They just announced specs. Shirley, they may be fast but they can't be that fast!

Is that lead time correct?

EDIT: Their site says shipping begins Oct. 20-30.
Thanks!  I had pasted for another manufacturer and forgot that field.

Don't call me Shirley.  Smiley

xCrowd Pavonis is apparently 60GH now
Yes and the same price!  I'm not sure how they are going to manage this with the larger chip size.  Amazing prospect though.

No ActiveMining equipment in the table?
Are they selling equipment?  I thought just selling shares in hosting.

Their hardware division - VMC - is selling the Fast Hash One and raw chips

http://virtualminingcorp.com/shop1/index.php?id_category=15&controller=category
Have they released anything about who is designing their chips, and what manufacturing they will be using?  xCrowd is on the list pending that information, which they have always said they would give.  If a company is wanting privacy, however we need to see the actual product.  Thank you for the link, if there is one that contains more information I would be glad to research it.

New machines for xCrowd added.  Did I miss anything else while I've had my head buried in research?

Those new high-end xCrowd numbers can't be right.
They say they'll release information in two days about how this is possible, guess we'll see.

Except he didn't.
Uniquify?
Except even the bricks (HashFast chippery) do not exist.
I would say it's more like an architect to design the structure, which is supposedly happening, and the people responsible haven't failed yet.
Except no bricks of this kind (28nm hashing ASICs) exist *anywhere.*
I don't mind if you call people gamblers rather than investors or consumers.  Everyone has some incentive for what they do.  Including you.  Mind letting us know what yours is?  You put an awful lot of energy into trolling new mining threads.  What is the payoff of that?
Except no bank would fund a building project, along with a brick company with no bricks to its name.
They would if they were a proven company with a history of bringing products, but alas this is bitcoin and everything done in this space is new.
Except no bank would fund a house of dubious legal status, without reams of paperwork that would actually stand up to legal scrutiny.
Yes, if your point is that there are a lot of scams, that is true.  What about all the money people make?  That's true too, people have to be diligent.
Except the bank is asked to assume *all* the risk with *no* guaranteed rewards.
Sounds like any new venture to me.
Except the value of this house is likely to *halve* every month.
Where do you bank, brah?
Except you can rent the house from the first day.  If you picked the right one it will double or triple your money before utilities break the ratio.  Also you don't have to kick anyone out when you're tired of it.  Yes there is no guarantee.  Run scared!  No really, if you're not willing to research and lose despite, don't mine.  Wait 5 years, and hope that a huge corporation hasn't taken over the network.
220  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 12$+ per GH/s - ESCROW - US/UK ASIC Startup - xCrowd.co.uk on: August 08, 2013, 04:47:53 PM
Why do you keep posting this everywhere? There is nothing to announce. No product. Nothing to mine with today. Who cares what you might produce in 6 months. Nobody.
That got a big lol.  Guess I didn't see this.  In retrospect the audience response proves you wrong.  Many people were and are interested in this story.  This doesn't mean that we are 100% assured that they will ever manufacture anything.  We watch, and wait.  Some companies produce, others don't.
