7161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Legend of Satoshi Nakamato, FINAL STEP PUBLISHED.... 4.87 BTC GRAND PRIZE! on: April 04, 2015, 09:02:23 PM
I understand that these puzzles are very involved and can be an emotional rollercoaster, but I assure you that I have my priorities straight. I value honor and integrity. I am not making any alternate accounts to post on the thread. I have a pledge to the 1347 (1337) players who have completed the trail that I will not be posting any clues.

My team and I have put a lot of sweat into the development of these puzzles, and I fund them with the few bitcoins I have. I even pay my developers for their contributions. I do this because I believe in the work I do, I believe artists can do something revolutionary with bitcoin. I believe many of us can influence the world for the better.

To anyone who is interested in the puzzle: do your own research. There will be people who are disgruntled for one reason or another. However there are many players who would stand behind me when I say I am an honest person.

Like the rest of us, I'm working for a better tomorrow. Why? Because I care.

Did you REALLY come out of your shell just to address me?

No, but I am. I used to like you, even though I know little about you. You contributed many ideas durring the first ARG and I felt like we have been on a mysterious path together. I still feel the same for many of those that have been with us. Its been some form of digital bonding experience. I dont know why you could not handle the end and I honestly have enough in my life to not bother understand your motivations or issues, thus the bonding could not have been very strong.

Seriously?

Talking about honesty, do you really think ANYONE with an IQ of more than 10 will actually believe you made a mistake on your last ARG?

I do believe her and I dont think she actually cares whether anyone of us believes it or not. Shit happens, people make mistakes. I think I said it in the past, but the lack of professionalism that was criticised actual makes this special for me. I dont want to attend some ARG a team of professionals set up to promote something, perfectly designed to attract the target audience.

Good luck with that, and good night to you.
I am going to bed.

I had enough of your sh*t.

Thanks

Just stay away. Seriously all you are doing is trolling this thread, causing a distraction for those that try to catch up.

Turn away and slam that door.

7162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin QT blockchain on: April 04, 2015, 08:32:49 PM
yeah there is

buy a evo ssd, it will sync the whole blockchain in 1 hour(tried it myself), and it's not expensive at all

For most of us the bottleneck is probably still the internet connection. Even slow mechanical disks can write >30MB/s on average[1], even a 100MBit/s connection will not deliver 30MB per second. In order to to sync within 1 hour you would indeed need a 100MBit/s connection and the disk should not have a big impact, since you would receive data at ~9MB/s, unless you use the disk for something heavy at the same time.

[1] http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/3.5-hard-drive-charts-2008/Average-WriteTransfer-Performance,659.html

well that's wierd because with my 850 pro i've synched the whole chain in 45 min, and i don't have 100mb, but only 8

At 8Mbit/s you would at max get 1 MB per second. In 45 minutes thats 45*60s*1MB/s = 45*60*1MB = 2700 MB. Maybe you just rescanned the blockchain or had an old existing bootstrap.dat still in the directory, but the numbers dont add up.

-snip-
Headers first synchronization now allows faster synchronization with parallel downloads of peers which allows faster download of Blockchain simultaneously. Torrent is basically the same speed or even slower since they need to do verification of the blockchain before downloading more. 0.10 is not backward compatible but I would assume its okay to download from torrent. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Using the torrent is fine, its probably slowing down the sync though. As you said you cant download and verify at the same time with the torrent, but you can when syncing with 0.10. directly. There might be some cases where you have problems finding enough good nodes though. If you allow no connections from the outside you are limited to 8 connections. If those 8 peers are connected with a cheap DSL home line with e.g. 2MBit/s upstream you will probably be better off with the torrent.

Nope, the 50MB setting didn't change anything.  I tried 150MB, too, just in case, but no luck.

My comp does not have any sleep or stand-by mode or anything, it's been on 24/7 for the last 8 years or something.

I'm sure it's just gremlins with my box, I've given up trying to figure it out.

Hmm, 8 years? Maybe its at the end of its lifecycle. I had systems over 5 years old fail in the past. They typically start to act up for no apparent reason. Sometimes it can be narrowed down to e.g. the GPU[1] or the memory[2], sometimes not.

Obviously going for the gold plated one, I was just wondering if they are still available as numbered and if so, if you can tell us which numbers are still available.

-snip-
Running that gives me an error saying "Error opening block database". However the database is there and runs well, it's using the same files that I was using on my Windows 7 machine running a bitcoin node.

Do you have any other ideas of what might fix this problem?

The exact same files at the same time? As in both programms try to access the same data at the same time? Thats not possible AFAIK as they both require write permission. Im not entirely sure if its possible for your NAS to handle this somehow but I doubt it is.
7166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How much bandwidth is involved in running a full node? on: April 04, 2015, 12:41:40 PM
Does anyone know? I'm currently using shared Internet services right now and am somewhat interested in mining as a hobby and was wondering how much bandwidth a full node actually uses.

thanks for linking my node Wink

I would assume that it's not really a simple case of measuring the average size of blocks since a full node does much more than simply downloading blocks to add to its blockchain. A full node must also provide other nodes with a copy of the blockchain to download and they must also receive and relay transactions to other nodes too.

Does anyone know how much data is downloaded and uploaded? And would it depend on geography? If someone lives in an area where Bitcoin is highly popular and there are a lot of transactions going on around them, would their node experience more activity compared to someone who lives in the middle of Africa for example?

The physical location of your node should not matter. Every Node will get a transaction over time, if you get it early you send it to all other nodes connected. If you get it late you do not spread it further.

A transaction - or even a new block -  is not the big factor though. In my experience the biggest impact is another full node syncing. My node typically hovers at 60-150 KiB/s upstream, but spikes way over 600 KiB/s from time to time. Usually only for a few hours at max. This happens when I run updates or when another node is connected for snycing. This impact will probably smaller as more and more nodes run 0.10.0 and can sync more efficiently from different nodes.

As you can see from the stats it never used more than 200 GB per month. Its connected @100Mbit/s and I limited the number of connections to 50. A higher connection speed and more connected nodes will probably result in more traffic. Maybe zvs can tell more about that as they run several full nodes and might have more insight on this.
7167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how to install bitcoind on linux for CryptoDic on: April 04, 2015, 11:50:25 AM
help me guys

Your bitcoin client is fully synced and running (I checked) if you need further help with your script you should probably contact the person you got it from. This is certainly not the section for this. It might also be wise to do these experiments in a more protected environment, e.g. locally or virtualized. On the other hand the worst that could happen is that someone uses your machine for something illegal and you get problems with the hoster.
7168  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit shows more in balance than actually should be on: April 04, 2015, 11:33:47 AM
Hi,

I just started using multibit as a lightweight client instead of bitcoin core.

I have imported some private keys from a wallet form blockchain which had 0.05 BTC in it and now multibit says I have 0.13 BTC. Previously I only had some dust in the multibit wallet somewhere around 0.004 or so.

Any idea what this may be? I'm going through my addresses as of right now to see what could be off, but if someone had something similar before I'd be happy to hear some input.

(No new transactions were received, that is not the reason why my balance went up. It simply shows more than what it showed in blockchain.info)

I would suggest you check the balances with a blockchain explorer[1] that is not blockchain.info and compare the total balances with multibit and bc.i. My best guess currently would be that bc.i did not show the correct balance or that multibit has problems syncing. A step towards finding the solution is to figure out which balance is the correct one.

7169  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: export bitcoin wallet address on: April 04, 2015, 11:26:48 AM
hello, is anyone here know how to export Wallet Address not private key from bitcoin wallet (multibit).
i want to export my bitcoin address to text file or anything i can modify.
i've been looking for this tutorial, but i still can't find the answer.
is there any command or tools for this problem?

You want to export the address, not the private key, from multibit? Just click the "copy address to clipboard" button and past into text file, repeat if needed.

You can modify the address all you want it will only result in you not getting any bitcoins when you use the modified address. Best case you modified the address in a way that makes it invalid, worst case you modified the address in a way that no private key for the modified address exisits.

Maybe you should tell what you are actually trying to do, because I think you are after vanity addresses and took a wrong turn somewhere.
7170  Other / New forum software / Re: Can the mod add GetGems Messenger to Forum Profile Information? on: April 04, 2015, 08:50:03 AM
This thread is in the “New forum software” section, right? Then, why don't we pick the IMs to include from scratch, rather than depend on choices made for a years old software?

Agreed.

Why pick at all? Just let each user add a contact channel and the ID. Sure it makes sense to have pregenerated options for the most common ones, but there will always be something new and it makes no sense to change this every time.
7171  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Probleme Bitcoin QT on: April 04, 2015, 08:40:37 AM

7172  Other / Meta / Re: Please remove the Digital Goods section on: April 04, 2015, 08:36:35 AM
Most offers in Digital Goods are related to cracked user accounts and illegally obtained software keys.

Maybe 10% of all posts in Digital Goods are related to legitimate offers so it's not worth keeping this section.

My perseption of the section is different. Many sell their domains, webpages, scripts for X there. Some sell their bitcointalk accounts and of those some might have been stolen, but those cases typcially end up in meta anyway. Whether or not the software in question was obtained illegally would be hard to proof. A 80% discount should certainly make you suspicious.

#3 Asking for loans without collateral or history here makes you look like a scammer, thats why you have the rating.

7174  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Sending bitcoins without miner fees on: April 03, 2015, 09:14:29 PM
How did you do it ? Please !

Inputs of 1 Bitcoin with 144 confirmations (~1 day) typically have a high enough priority to be used in a transaction with a single output to be confirmed in a reasonable amount of time without the need of a fee. If the input you want to use is smaller you have to wait longer for the priority to be high enough. E.g. 0.1 BTC take 10 days, 0.01 100 days, etc. Keep in mind that this is no guarantee as there is only 50KByte reserved for transactions without fee in each block.

tl;dr: have >1 BTC or wait a long time.
7175  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to sign a message?! on: April 03, 2015, 08:46:17 PM
if you use a wallet that is still missing, please suggest it.
Mycelium supports signing messages, for HD wallets and non-HD, single addresses.

Mycelium 2.3.0/2.3.1 on Android lollipop added[1]. There was an update while I made the screenshots, but I did not change anything. It gives you two options at the end. Either copy the signature to clipboard or share a preformated text that is compatible with brainwallet - they improved the verify page[2] btw - I personally like the preformated version better. You can e.g. create a mail with it and copy it from there

You can also ask someone else to vouch for you and get an account whitelisted from paying the fee. I dont know if there is an official way to do it or someone specific you should contact though. Its been a while and I wasnt sober so please dont ask me for details I dont remember myself.
7177  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to sign a message?! on: April 03, 2015, 11:12:16 AM
is there a way to sign a message from an address without running bitcoinqt

As you can see I currently cover Bitcoin Core version v0.10.0, Electrum v 1.9.8, MultiBit v 0.5.18 and Blockchain.info. Coinbase (linked to guide earlier), armory and the new versions of Multibit (HD)[1] and Electrum (2.0.X) as well as plenty other wallets also support signing as well as verification of messages. If you have a specific wallet, just tell me which and I will add it to the todo list.

New additions will probably[2] follow within the next days, if you use a wallet that is still missing, please suggest it. I dont see a reason to focus on wallets like armory as the chance that someone using armory knows how to sign a message is high. I think its more important to focus on wallets that are used by many people and that are typically considered beginners friendly.

7178  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum: 50% commission sending BTCs? on: April 03, 2015, 08:22:31 AM
You can change the default fee in options. What is your default fee now? Is your address full of dust amounts?

Thanks, if you mean "preferences", got it. No, my address is not full of 'dust amounts'.

Well, technically dust is any input below 546 satoshi. Your transaction[1] does not contain what technically would be understood as dust. On the other hand you have 44 inputs from 1000 Satoshi to 78k satoshi. The transaction is 7963 bytes in size most people would consider the inputs dust. Not sure what the default settings for electrum are, but 80k satoshi as fee should be fine and apparently the 1 satoshi per byte you spend did also work out in your favor.

7179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core 0.10.0 closes for no reason, no error on: April 03, 2015, 08:08:56 AM
Had this happen 3 or 4 times since last posting, tried a few things on my own and nothing seemed to stop the random crash.  I've just now set the cache to 50 megs, will report if that makes an improvement.

mmh i can only think of something wrong with your os installation, or maybe your cpu is at 100% when you run the client?

The cpu is idle when this happens, it happens during the day when I am away at work.

I chalk it up to my old computers, if I get motivated enough I'll try the Linux partition, or I may just do nothing until I eventually build a new computer.

I assume the reduction to 50 MB cache did not help.

Could this be an issue related to some sort of sleep or stand by mode that is enabled after some time? Is there any setting in WinXP or the BIOS enabled that could result in a some sort of sleep that could cause issues with bitcoin core?

I also encountered the same situation as you . My Bitcoin 0.10.0 wallet start slowly and close sunddenly

I doubt you have the exact same setup as OP. Slow start can be solved by adding the following lines to your bitcoin.conf (create on if needed). Reduce checkblocks and/or checklevel until you are fine with the time it takes for bitcoin core to start.

Code:
# How many blocks to check at startup (default: 288, 0 = all)
checkblocks=288

# How thorough the block verification is (0-4, default: 3)
checklevel=3

No profits.
